JPEG export should be numbered usefully
InDesign exports JPEGs as: blah.jpg, blah2.jpg, blah3.jpg, etc.
Even InDesign itself can't properly parse this numbering scheme when it imports JPEGs. They should be numbered: blah01.jpeg, blah02.jpg, blah03.jpg, etc.
Either that, or InDesign should be smart enough to recognize and properly import its own JPEGs.

End-notes and Footnotes URLS
I do a lot of books for Print and digital (pdf and ePub). End-notes have always been a problem, even now that Indesign supports End-notes.
For PDF and ePub export , in order to have the end-note reference clickable to redirect the user to it's corresponding end-note, then a link back again, I have to do this manually.
This is a massive manual process...
Let's say I have 100 end-notes. With each end-note reference, I have to place a new 'Hyperlink Destination' (for the return link)... That's going through the document, and placing 100 hyperlink destinations.

Footnotes *from different text frames* in *separate text frame*
New footnotes in InDesign 14 does not suite for complex layouts with many text frames and tables on one page.
There should be also a solution for footnotes collected from different text frames / tables on a page.

set individual pages as non-numbered in books
I use the book feature for many, if not most of the documents that I create. Each individual InDesign document included within the book is a new chapter. Because the majority of my clients request printed copies of the documents I create, I usually create customized tab pages that precede each chapter, so that the end user can easily find a specific section. These tabs are printed on card stock instead of the standard bond paper that is used for the content of the document.

Break Footnotes Marker
If long footnotes breaks on two pages autoinsert some symbol on end of first part and some symbol on the beginning of the second part. Would also be nice to have the possibility to choose a glyph for these markers.

Endnotes from Word as plain text, please. Just like it used to be.
Could you please add the option to InDesign to import Word files with endnotes as plain text? Just like it used to be?
The new footnote and endnote features are disastrous for my work as a book designer.

Exclude Pages from Page Count
Please include an option to exclude certain pages of a document from the page count. I work with a lot of proposals that have page counts, but things like covers, table of contents, and tabs do not count. It's hard to keep track of the "counted" pages and having to go in and change the numbering every time I delete or insert a page. It would be great if you could right click on pages and say "exclude from page count" and the page count would continue on the next page.

Footnotes and Endnotes
1a. Export as RichTextFormat ... should include Footnotes and Endnotes.
1b. Export as HTML ... should include hyperlinked Footnotes and Endnotes.
1c. Should have option to convert Footnotes and Endnotes to static text. This option should also be available when exporting as per above.
1d. Above exports should also include any images that are part of the text flow, with an option of converting them to JPEG at a particular resolution.
2. This would save having to muck around with the HTML code, or manually create static endnote numbers.2 votes -

Allow to add notes to footnotes!
As simple as the heading is to "allow to add notes to footnotes!"
Google Docs, has this option, and and causes problems when importing them with the notes into InDesign, same applies when using DocaFlow5 votes -
Add feature to toggle on/off "adjust page numbers when hiding spreads" to add behavior option to match CC2024
Request: Add an option to toggle on/off "adjust page numbering when hiding spreads."
The updated Hide Spreads feature that adjusts page numbering when spreads are hidden is only useful in documents where you may have alternate versions of pages, but not when you are just trying to export unique sample pages from a long document. We have multiple users that had used Hide Spreads in CC2024 to easily exclude pages from a PDF export instead of having to type in page ranges to export. Allow users to add footnotes in table text!!!
Please allow users to add footnotes in table text, I can't believe that this is not poosible. I am formatting a lengthy document for a client and some of the footnotes need to be in table text and they cannot be added without disrupting the flow of footnotes. This is such a basic thing that you should be able to do! Please add it!

Text Variable as a consecutive number
Possibility of defining and inserting a text variable as a consecutive number of the list.
Thanks to this variable it will be possible to number subsequent words in a sentence. For example (1) thing, (2) thing, (3) thing etc, or thing1, thing2, thing3 etc. There are infinitely many possibilities. Verse of poetry at the end of the verse etc. References to comments which are not endnotes or footnotes (without laborious definition of cross references). customize number/bullet lists without multiple style sheets
There should be some way to customize bullet and numbering lists without making multiple style sheets and then reapplying those styles to exisiting areas where styles are already applied. This is a crazy amount of work to do something that has to be done fairly regularly.

Able to insert paragraph numbers in table of contents instead of page numbers for Chapter mini-toc
I have a chapter mini-toc that requires paragraph numbers instead of the default page numbering. it woiuld be really nice to be able to define variables or attributes and use them accordingly.

Option to have list indents work near text-wrap objects
Currently, when text containing bulleted or numbered lists wraps around an object, all indents associated with the list settings are ignored (this might be related to tab settings, since those don't follow the wrap either). The typical workaround is to change the Text After to an en-space and add an "Indent to Here" character, but the en-space trick won't work for numbered lists and "Indent to Here" won't work if the text wrap edge is not perfectly straight vertical. 78 votesFix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign version - InDesign 2023. The fix should solve most of the issues that were seen earlier.
A new option "Honor Text Indents in addition to Text Wrap" is introduced in Preferences > Composition dialog. It is turned ON by default for new documents created in ID2023. For documents created in previous InDesign versions, this option is turned off by default - which can be turned ON to see the improved behavior.

Make Paragraph Styles Apply Parent Pages and Section Starts
- Would like to have an option to apply a Parent page based on the Paragraph style. Similar to Mastermatic, but in the Paragraph style dialogue.
- Would like the option to have a Paragraph Style set a section start. When there are two stories in the document (eg. text and translation) with different styles, it's necessary for the footnotes of each one to have different styles also.
