  1. Create merged pdf from layers of one file

Have a file with multiple languages with each language on a separate layer that must be combined into one pdf file. Would like to be able to export once and have all pdfs completed from InDesign.

One document contains 26 different languages that must be exported.

  2. Please allow placed PSD layer blend modes to carry over into InDesign

We build 2-layer Photoshop files for product images. Top layer is product image set to NORMAL blend mode. Bottom layer is shadow of product set to MULTIPLY blend mode. When placed in InDesign the shadow layer does not carry over multiply blending. It knocks out anything under it in InDesign file. Our work around is placing two copies of the PSD file on top of each other. We then have to set the bottom image to Multiply with top layer turned off in Object Layer Options. Then the top image needs to have shadow layer turned off in Object Layer…

  3. Provide visual feedback when dragging items between layers

At the moment when you drag the box from one layer to another you can't see if you've grabbed it until you let it go. It can be fiddly sometimes to select it because it's quite small, so the dot becoming "live" and moving as you drag it would be a real help.

  4. Object styles to include layer allocation

E.g.. Text frame (object style) can be then assigned to text layer and moved accordingly.
It would work well for images/charts, etc for long docs such as Annual Reports, etc
Would be a good organisational tool to keep text layers above image/graphics that can cause issues.

  5. datamerge control layer visibility and ability to control more via data

would be cool if we could select the ID-layers-visibility via datamerge. (like Photoshop can do since CS1)
    For example:

data1: layer1 is visible, layer 2 is invisible
data2: layer2 is visible, layer 1 is invisible
    etc.

AND: it would be great to select objectstyles via datamerge. like XMPie can do.

But XMPie is far much too expensive for small daily business.

  6. Script or function to export InDesign files to Photoshop while retaining layers for Windows devices.

I've been using the Adobe Suite for years for both photo and video editing. Recently I started using InDesign and found out that the only script available that lets you open an InDesign file in Photoshop with everything on separate layers is for Apple devices only.

Can we get a solution to this? I know I'm not alone here. Willing to beta test and do whatever else would be needed to help expedite this.

  7. Eyedropper Tool and locked layers on top, theme tool

Hey, here is an idea; I have a layer with a photo and i have a layer with text on top. I lock the textlayer and select the eyedropper tool. I click on the photo and the colour is picked. Just like in illustrator...Wishfull thinking?

    Here is another golden idea:
I have a photo of an interior, mostly brown- somewhat green and overal grey, but there is an amazing pop of yellow because there is one small flower on a painting.
I select the Colour Theme Tool, I zoom in on the flower, and click on it.
    My brain is…

  8. Add Layer Above / Beneath

I find myself dragging newly created Layers all the time. New Layers are always created on top. Why not make a more sophisticated interface that allows a New Layer to be created:
    -On top
    -On bottom
    -Above Selected
    -Beneath Selected

  9. Change 'Object Layer Options' on multiple images at the same time

It would be a massive time save if it were possible to change the Object Layers Options on multiple images at the same time.
We build four layer products images in PS with layers across all images named the same:
    Product, FlatShadow, StandingShadow, Reflection
When we have 40 products on the page and the customer decides they want the products all to have a reflection, at the moment we have to switch each images Reflection layer on singly. Then in the next round the customer may decide they want no Reflection or Shadow at all. Again we have to switch…

  10. Convert image file types in InDesign instead of Photoshop

Rather than opening an image link in photoshop to make changes (such as converting from .TIFF to JPEG, RGB to CMYK, etc), allow InDesign to convert the images either within the program or as a package/export option.

  11. spell check - add option to limit to one layer

Please, please add an option to limit spell check to one layer only throughout the document - for example the currently chosen layer or the layer with a specified language. When doing translations of children books we need to work with two text layers - one for the original layer and one for the translation. When running spell check at the end of a translation it is always highly annoying to have Indesign jump randomly between the layers resp. languages. This bug renders spell check almost useless for translation-projects as Indesign usually chooses to stay in the wrong layer. Btw:…

  12. Layer comps (Different View States)

I need to be able to easily export different view states of the same LARGE documents that get incremental updates, showing and hiding different layers and objects depending on who the exported file will be going to.

Having the option to use Layer Comps would allow for different view states to be enabled for each export.

  13. Object layer to InDesign layer

It would be great to be able to place contents from different object layers in supported image files to different Indesign layers.
I have a request from one of my printing suppliers that wants all black text to be on the same InDesign layer but currently this is not possible as the imported image, a keyline can only exist on one layer at the time. The keyline both contains a keyline frame in cyan and a keyline reference to be printed in black

  14. Layered Fonts

Please do provide a tool to implement layered fonts. The tool would need to:
    - be able to automatically superimpose different layers of a font with different styles (color etc.) in the same place, or in a slight interval to create a shadow-effect
    - be applicable to initials (as this is a very common use for layered fonts)

  15. Make layered PDFs Illustrator compatible

Currently, layers made from PDF exported in InDesign are not preserved when the PDF is opened in Illustrator. Would be real helpful if they were.

  16. Mark layers as visible in the exported PDF but non-printing from within InDesign export settings

PDFs have the ability to mark layers as non-printing, so that they appear visible on the screen but don't print to hard copy. I'm using this capability to add a light raster background to all pages of a workbook for students, which adds a bit of warm color to the on-screen viewing experience, but I don't want this background to use up all their toner if they decide to print the pages. Similarly, the entire workbook has page numbers, but the worksheets should print without the page numbers, because they're not relevant outside the context of the book.

    I found…

  17. Right Click on object -> Move/Copy it to any Layer

Sometimes when you want to move or copy an object from one layer to another, it can become a bit cumbersome if you're working with a lot of layers and those layers themselves have a lot of files.

So my suggestion is to add a menu shortcut when you right click on any object to move that object to any available layer.

    See crude example below.

    Thank you.

  18. Improve InDesign Accessibility Export to PDF

    ARTICLES AND LAYERS
When the logical reading order is set in Articles, it would save time if Layers could replicate the same order, whether it’s automated or if there was a way to select “Use Articles reading order for Layers.”

    TABLE STRUCTURE
Set header scope for both columns and rows in cell properties in InDesign.

    Simplified complex table structure.

    FOOTNOTES
Set the hyperlink and correct tags when footnotes are referenced in tables.

More layout flexibility would also be helpful.

    ALT TEXT
    Adding Alt text to hyperlinks

    PATHS
Paths not included in Articles should remain artifacts. If that’s not an…

  19. new button in Layer palette for visibility as in InDesign, also Preferences

On opening a file in InCopy CC19, CC18 and CS6 all layers are visible, no matter if any were set to be invisible in InDesign.
It would be helpful to have a button within the layer palette to set all layers to (in)visible as given in the InDesign source.
It would be even better if InCopy had a preferences setting that would allow you to open all documents with the visibility as given in the InDesign source.

This would give InCopy user not only access to all layers, but also to decide whether they want to focus on what…

  20. Allow movie objects to be placed behind other layers

I am working on a huge airport project at an architecture firm, and we want to be able to respond to requests for information with animation files, however, we cannot maintain our standard format because the movie files, when placed in an indesign file and exported to an interactive PDF, shift to the front layer and obscure all the written information we wish to include along with the file. I am considering using AfterEffects to create an entire animation with text overlayed, but the ease of use of InDesign would be sorely missed.
