1. Switching language resets preferences and breaks app recognition in Creative Cloud

   I’m writing as an enterprise customer managing multiple Adobe Creative Cloud licenses across a multilingual team. We frequently switch UI languages and reassign machines, so consistent environment management is essential to maintaining workflow stability.

   When switching InDesign’s UI language through Creative Cloud (for example, from Czech to English), all user-specific settings — workspaces, keyboard shortcuts, export presets, print settings, and scripts — are effectively lost.
   This happens because each language version maintains a separate preferences folder (csCZ, enUS, etc.) with no migration or shared profile mechanism. After changing the install language, Creative Cloud also misidentifies previously installed applications as uninstalled, causing confusion and unnecessary duplication.

   This design makes environment management extremely inefficient for enterprise and multilingual users. Reconfiguring an entire setup every time a language or workstation changes is unproductive and error-prone.

   At the enterprise level, we expect:
   1. Centralized, cloud-synced user preferences tied to the user’s Adobe ID — covering shortcuts, workspaces, scripts, and presets.
   2. Team-level sharing and deployment of those settings to ensure consistency across multiple users and systems.
   3. A proper migration utility for switching application language or version.
   4. A cleaned-up folder structure, as the current InDesign and Creative Cloud environment creates excessive fragmentation and clutter across system directories.

   Additionally, it’s quite concerning that as an enterprise customer, there’s no direct way to reach Adobe’s product or technical teams through the Admin Console. Even with enterprise credentials, the only available channel to report structural issues like this is via public forums. That’s not acceptable for enterprise-level support expectations.

   Adobe software produces one of the most chaotic preference folder structures in the industry. Modernizing this system to a unified, cloud-based model would eliminate countless hours of redundant setup and maintenance.
   This issue directly impacts productivity, IT efficiency, and user experience in professional environments. Please escalate this internally to both the InDesign and Creative Cloud teams for review.

   I’m happy to provide detailed workflow examples or configuration data if that helps the product team understand the enterprise-level impact.

2. Workflow issue: Composite fonts increase uncontrollably when switching projects

   Category: Text and Type (Composite fonts issue specific to Japanese workflows)

   Composite fonts are a feature of the Japanese version of InDesign, widely used in the workflows of Japanese publishers.

   Currently, InDesign identifies composite fonts only by their names. When multiple documents containing composite fonts with the same name but different settings are opened at the same time, InDesign forcibly duplicates and renames them (e.g. “FontName 2”, “FontName 3”, …). As a result, the number of composite fonts grows uncontrollably, making font management extremely confusing.

   This behavior causes serious workflow problems:

   • It prevents efficient switching between projects.

   • It makes collaboration with external partners painful, since documents brought back from subcontractors often contain duplicated composite fonts with the same names.

   • Users are forced to manage unnecessary duplicates, even though they did not create them.

   Request:
   Please assign a unique ID to each composite font internally (or identify them by name + definition hash), so that composite fonts with the same name but different settings can coexist in the application without being duplicated or renamed.

   This issue has been reported for years but remains unresolved.
   In Japanese publishing workflows, it causes serious inefficiency and confusion.
   We strongly request that Adobe review this behavior and provide a structural fix, not just a workaround.

3. Remove the floating "help with a feature items"

   I wanted to share some feedback regarding a recent usability issue I’ve experienced across several Creative Cloud applications, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat.

   In recent updates, each of these programs has introduced tool-specific pop-up panels or hints that appear when a tool is selected. While I understand the intent is to offer helpful tips or highlight features, these pop-ups are consistently disruptive to my workflow. They frequently appear directly over the content I'm working on and are difficult to reposition. Even when I move them off the canvas, they often reset to their original (obstructive) location whenever I switch tools—requiring repeated effort to move them out of the way.

   The attached screenshot shows an example from this morning—I've had to move the pop-up off-canvas at least ten times in a single session, only to have it return again and again.

   Rather than floating over the workspace, a less intrusive solution might be to dock or slide these panels out from the tool selector on the left-hand side of the screen. That way, users can reference them when needed without them interfering with active work.

   While I appreciate feature enhancements, this particular change has negatively impacted my efficiency, and I’d love to see an option to reposition them more permanently.

4. Make gifs great again

   • Allow a preview of a live GIF while designing - currently when it is placed into a deck it is static and only reviewable by publishing online.

   • Allow a choice of the GIF thumbnail that becomes the still image when an offline version is downloaded. Currently I'm at the mercy of whatever the very first frame is in the entire GIF sequence.

   • Better yet, make Adobe Reader able to play gifs so the 'offline' version doesn't have to be a compromise of the original intention.

5. spell check

   Spell check in Indesign is not fit for purpose in its current state, it is slow and clunky and gives no indication of where you are when checking a long document, could it not give a list of words like links panel that you can click to go to? At least implement some sort of progress bar and indication of how man words are incorrect/need reviewing. The forwards and backwards button do not help in any way - i'm sure the reason you need the change direction is only because its so slow and clunky that it goes past a word from clicking and need to go back - so please, either a list of words with word count on how many spelling queries or a progress bar on how many words still to check

6. Allow saving importing and exporting Proof Setup settings (Also include Colour blindness settings)

   InDesign is usually the final step in creating a publication where the changes can be made. It is therefore important to view a document, especially if intended for print, with correct proof settings. In Photoshop it is possible to save Proof settings, but in InDesign this is not possible (I wish they were interchangeable)

   Comparing Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign you see that there is less and less possibilities to have control which is ironic because often you would not know the output intent until you come to InDesign, and you may also have assets that are to be used for multiple output intents.

   Ideal would be to have .psf files to be universal across applications. (Even as shared assets in same way as .csf files are cross application)

   Ideally the selection of .csf and .psf should be part of Live Preflight warning.

   InDesign is usually the final step in creating a publication where the changes can be made. It is therefore important to view a document, especially if intended for print, with correct proof settings. In Photoshop it is possible to save Proof settings, but in InDesign this is not possible (I wish they were interchangeable)

7. Add ability to make resusable/editable linked COMPONENTS (like in XD)

   InDesign has been dancing around the edges of this idea for years, with half-baked features like snippets, libraries, linked items in the content grabber....but it never has gotten it right. What we need is something exactly like the "components" feature in Adobe XD. We grab some objects, and then "Make Component" out of them. Then we can plop multiple instances of that component throughout the document. If we go back and edit the "Main Component" those changes are automatically applied to all placed instances of it.

   Yes, I know you can place one indesign doc into another, which is the workaround I've been doing for years. But that is very slow and clunky in practice. One reason is we're handcuffed to the "page" and "page size" mentality. Many components—being just collections of shapes/objects—do not need a set "page size" and it's annoying to have to keep adjusting a page to fit the objects as they evolve. Another reason is file management. If we put all our "components" into separate indesign files, it becomes a pain to share styles/swatches between them. If we group them all in one indesign file, we're then limited to referring to them only by page number (since we STILL can't name our pages). This gets cumbersome as we add/move/removee pages and place the items "by page" into our main indesign document.

   Snippets, content grabber, libraries, do not create "linked instances of editable main components" in the same useful way that XD does.

8. Enable more control panel and app bar customization

   Please enable greater customization of the control panel (the top/bottom panel from the Essentials Classic workspace).

   I realize you can customize which tools are included, however, it takes up too much space. Even if I reduce the number of tools to very few, the panel takes up two rows worth of space and all the tools are stacked (in two rows) at the far left of the panel. You also cannot arrange the order or position of the various tools.

   I hate how much space the panels take up on the screen and that's part of the reason I like the control panel (the other reason being to avoid the ongoing "hover scroll" issue of the Properties panel, where I accidentally change the font every time I scroll the panel-- you can vote for that 4 year old idea here: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/32423974-add-the-ability-to-turn-off-hover-scrolling).

   Anyway, I would really like to make the control panel much narrower and only one row. Also, I would love to to be able to combine it with/customize/or hide the application bar (or whatever bar is the furthest at the top with the InDesign name). For me, this bar includes the following buttons: Home, Learn, Share, Workspace and Adobe Stock. I do not use any of these buttons ever, yet they take up a valuable row of space. I would love to be able to replace these useless buttons with ones I do use.

9. Remember last export format

   The recently released feature to remember export settings and have them stick with individual documents was a good concept, but it has not been fully implemented.

   As it stands, all it remembers is the 'type' of file that was exported – which in most cases is pretty pointless. I'm sure people know when they export their file whether it needs too be an EPS or a PDF.

   What I thought the feature was going to be was something that remembered the complete export settings – for example with a print PDF it could keep the info relating to compression settings, marks and bleeds, PDF-X standard etc.

   This would be really valuable when the file was next viewed, and even more valuable if the file is being shared with other people. It would guarantee that the file could be outputted consistently.

   I often pick up jobs that other people in our studio have worked on and need to be able to make changes to the file then re-output at the same settings.

10. Urgent: Flatplan workflow feature request for InDesign / Bridge (critical for all magazine publishers)

    Hi Adobe team,
    We’re honestly desperate at this point.

    We’ve been trying for weeks to reach someone from Adobe who could even acknowledge this topic — through enterprise support, admin console, chat agents, even our reseller — and it’s absolutely impossible.

    It’s insane that even as an enterprise customer, we can’t reach a real product contact to talk about something so fundamental.
    We’re part of BurdaMedia International (Czech Republic), publishers of ELLE and ELLE Decoration.

    But this isn’t just our pain — it’s something every single magazine publisher still using InDesign is facing.
    There’s simply no native way to plan or visualize flatplans, page structures, ad positions, or collaborative magazine layouts inside Creative Cloud.

    Legacy systems like WoodWing or K4 are outdated, overpriced, and don’t fit today’s workflows — yet Adobe still doesn’t offer even a lightweight in-house alternative.

    Here’s what we’re asking for:
    → A Bridge-based flatplan module (or workspace) that can visualize InDesign pages as individual, draggable objects.
    → The ability to reorder pages, assign colors or labels (editorial, ad, marketing), and link InDesign or PDF files to each position.
    → Automatic renumbering in InDesign when page order changes.
    → Optional PDF preflight and simple export for final issues.

    It’s a technically simple concept — no new platform, just a smarter integration between Bridge and InDesign — but it would solve a huge, decades-old workflow gap.
    This isn’t just about convenience for publishers.
    It’s about Adobe’s relevance in real production.
    If tools like Affinity Publisher or Apple (after acquiring Pixelmator) start offering integrated flatplan collaboration, many teams will start moving away from InDesign.

    We love Adobe, and we’ve built our entire production workflow around it — but right now, we’re forced to sketch magazine layouts in Excel.
    That’s… absurd in 2025.

    Please — could someone from the InDesign or Publishing Solutions product team contact us so we can share our technical brief and prototype concept?

    We’re ready to collaborate and show how easily this could be implemented.

12. Update Hyperlinks after destination file rename

    Hi there and thanks for this wonderful tool!

    Usually I always find a way to do what I want thanks to ExtendScript which is just amazing.

    However in this case it seems that it's not possible (https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/target-the-source-hyperlink-destination-document-of-an-hyperlinks/m-p/11498930)

    I am now working on a very long document that we split in three .indd files and have dozens of hyperlinks in each file to jump from one file to another.

    Let's say they are called:

    P_EN_v1.0.indd
    Q_EN_v1.0.indd
    R_EN_v1.0.indd
    

    If we find things to update in those files then we would like to share new versions with attendants to our event as new set of files that are named differently from the previous ones. So we would call them for instance:

    P_EN_v2.0.indd
    Q_EN_v2.0.indd
    R_EN_v2.0.indd
    

    However, as soon as files are renamed, all the hyperlinks are broken and need to be redefined by hand one by one. The error shown after renaming is:

    Hyperlink destination document not found. Please verify the
    document's location in the Hyperlinks panel before choosing
    this hyperlink.
    

    Not only the destination file path is lost, but also the name of the "Hyperlink Destination", so one needs to be very careful to re-link every single Hyperlink to its proper destination, and given we have dozens and dozens this can be very error prone.

    It would be very useful if there was a way to say that file P_EN_v1.0.indd was renamed as P_EN_v2.0.indd, and therefore update all Hyperlinks that are pointing to v1.0 to point to v2.0 in a single operation.

    According to the forum discussion linked above it is not possible to achieve this through scripting, but only through exporting as IDML, doing a find&replace and exporting again as INDD.

    However it seems to me that this should be supported by InDesign itself, since renaming files should be a harmless enough thing to do. Otherwise as soon as I start linking I am actually deadlocking myself to forever use the file names as they are or have to relink everything.

    And in case of an event like us where every day we update the file and have a new set with v1.0, v1.1, v1.2, v2.0, and so on, and each file has dozens of links, that would be greatly appreciated.

13. Center and zoom in

    I often find it hard to spot the pins on the canvas when reviewing comments for a busy layout. A center in and zoom level or a better highlighted pin would be awesome!

14. Make "Find/Change" Queries Easier to Organize and Edit!!

    Find/Change Queries are a nightmare to organize, edit, and delete.

    PLEASE add basic edit functions while viewing drop-down list of Queries.

    Better yet, allow Queries to be saved like INDD Libraries that are Project Specific and can be shared!

15. Make Publish Online Autoplay and Loop

    I am preparing a presentation for a museum. I already have it set up in InDesign, and have shared it to stakeholders via Publish Online. However, it needs to run on a loop and flip slides automatically – because of COVID, viewers can't touch the screen. Adding a feature to time each slides's appearance and set to infinite looping would solve this, and avoid me having to recreate it as a video – similar to exporting an interactive PDF. Thanks!

16. Improved spot colour assignment

    You've introduced 'useful' cloud sharing features and project integration over the last few versions but would it be possible to make assigning spot colours or custom colours easier across InDesign, illustrator and Photoshop? I waste so much time switching back and forth across apps, trying to set up the correct colour information ready for print. It's still so convoluted and always feels like I'm fudging my artwork. I end up resorting to changing all spot elements to 100% Black and creating a separate page. That's not intuitive or helpful, that's just winging it.

17. Decide what folder that will be synced in creative cloud

    Since we can have really big data storage in the creative cloud today I miss the function to choose what folders/projects I need on my local device that has less amount of storage than my cloud license. So I suggest a function Microsoft OneDrive have like "free up space" that removes the local copy. Most cooperate computers don have 1Tb disks so today with shared folders you can fill your disk quick and you cant control it in a good way.

18. Things on the artboard moves when adding pages

    I work on long documents and sometimes I have notes/objects/revisions for my team about the page to the side in the artboard. But adding pages moves the artboard and it's object away from the page and sometimes I don't notice for a while. I recognize there is a notes feature, but sometimes it's alternate versions of a table or object that need to be reviewed before implementation or are on hold. It would be a really useful toggle option.

19. ai generation

    Indesign is saving ai generate images in documents system drive by default, which causes problems when I work sometimes from home and at time out of the office on my laptop. Also problems making packages.
    With the new version came out, I was surprised that we still can't choose our wanted prefered lacation - like a shared driver so I can access those ai generated images from anywhere. I still have to go to Utilities, copy links to - FOR EVERY SINGLE JOB. It's impossible to work like this.
    Would appreciate a fix

20. Global baseline shift

    In version 14.0.2, we may select any character(s) in a single line adjusting baseline shift variously for each selection of characters. Having made specific baseline shifts, it would be nice to select the desired text and while preserving their relative differing baseline shifts to then globally raise and/or lower the entire line.

    Currently, we are not able to do this. The attached shows that if I select the differing baseline shifted characters, InDesign's UI baseline shift incrementer becomes unavailable. I can globally reset the entire line imposing a single shared baseline value via text input, but this does not respect nor preserve the relative positions of baseline shifts made previous. If it were possible to globally raise and/or lower their relative positions perhaps using a character modifier as we used to have in Quark back in the day, it would put InDesign even a little further ahead of the curve. As it stands now, however, I would have the slight chore to break up the enclosing text box into individual lines which will preserve relative character baseline shifts with their relative positions and where I can then move the entire line without affecting them in any way. This is not a huge consideration for something as simple as letterhead but if the selections were more involved involving more text, then this is something a good designer will always reach for.

    Ctrl+SHIFT+brackets|semicolon or comma I think may have been the key binding for such an operation in Quark of old. I still remember InDesign 1.0 haha
