1. Crashes when changing font, copying text and saving as another file type

   I have been tryin to open one of my 'old' Indesign files (2017). At the time I used Cross-References plugin DTP tools. I no longer use it. It keeps populating a notification that the plugin is missing, but it still opens the INDD document. I have tried saving the document—
   1) as an IDML document and that does not work.
   2) I have also tried saving as a new document but the issue remains the same.
   3) I have tried copying the text from it to a new INDD document, it crashes every time and I have sent crash reports.
   4) I change the font to different font or basic—it crashes every time.
   5) I have tried exporting it as an IDML file to sanitize it and it crashes

   The only thing I have not tried is purchasing "Wordsflow" plugin from Em Software and exporting to Word. Also, I have not tried re-installing the DTP Tools plugin again, as of yet. Ideally, I would like to reconcile the document without paying for plugins I don't need to use.

   Adobe, I would be grateful if a 'fix' could applied so I can retrieve it.

   We have released InDesign 2025(v20.2.0.036) with many stability fixes. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version (if you’re not already on it) as it is more robust.

2. Footnotes appear directly under para unless 'Span fn across columns' is selected in text frame or footnote options

   Even when working on a single column layout, with no multiple columns in the document this happens. It means that without selecting the 'Span fn across columns' option the footnotes appear at various places in a page.

   We should not have to select this option for a single column design.

   It also seems to add extra spacing below the paragraph, even if the option is selected. As if the spacing is created for the fn, even though it now appears at the bottom of the text frame instead of after the para!

   This is using v 15.0.1 x64 on windows.

3. Selecting object defining box appears only after leaving area

   Since 2025 installed and object or text box, once selected, does not show selected until mouse is moved away from selected area.

   This is not the case in 2024 application.

4. Assign new shortcut for hiding panels while inside a text box don't work (Mac 12.7.4 ID2023)

   Please read and try to create it in order to see the problem. some users reported it works for a few times, but later stopped.

   I have a need to hide/show panels except the toolbox which is here:

   Product area : Views, Navigation > Show/Hide all panels except toolbox --- Default: Shift+Tab

   Of course this shortcut will not work when my cursor is inside a text box so I added a shortcut when the "Text" context is selected so it will work in this way too: Text: Ctrl+Tab

   While doing so I made sure [unassigned] is written.

   I now have 2 shortcuts for this actions but the only one that works is the default one and I don't understand why.

   I tried to remove the first option and keep only the one I assigned but it still won't work.

   Attached is a screenshot of my definitions.

6. PDF comments importation Issue (wrong position)

   1. Indesign 16.1 Windows 10
   2. Create a text with no stroke, duplicate it and add a stroke. Export a pdf, insert comments in adobe acrobat, the import the pdf comments in Indesign.
   3. The PDF comments should be imported a their position.
   4. The PDF comments are not imported on their position on the text with a stroke.

   I have an issue when I import PDF comments :
   The issue is that comments are displaced and not aligned at their correct location in the Indd project doc that make the PDF.

   I spent some times on this, and found the reason :
   If your text has a stroke, then the comments wil be displaced.
   If your text has no stroke, no issue.

   On the pic attached, you can see on the left, the inserted comment on the PDF, and on the right, The imported comments on Indesign.

7. anchored object ignores textwrap of the first line

   When anchoring an Object in a text and selecting the object to wrap around the text, the first line ignores this command.
   When searching for a solution, i stumbled upon this entry describing the problem.

   the only solution seems to be to anchor the text in a previous line.
   However, I want my textanchor to be on the right spot, so a screenreader can read it correctly - so anchoring it one line above is no option for me.

8. [ID-4257731]No Redraws on Object Highlight

   Prerequisites

   • macOS version only
   • version 18 (2023) and later
   • Screen Mode: Normal
   • GPU Performance OFF (CPU Preview)

   This issue occurs 100% of the time under these conditions. Note that Overprint Preview forces CPU Preview, causing the issue even in Overprint Preview mode with GPU Performance ON. It persists across macOS versions and Intel/Apple Silicon platforms.

   Steps to Reproduce

   1. Prepare an InDesign document with multiple pages.
   2. Place any object on the page.
   3. Switch to the Text tool.
   4. Hover the mouse over the object (MouseEnter), without selecting it.
   5. Press the Cmd key while the mouse is over the object.
   6. The object is highlighted.
   7. Select the menu item "Layout > Next Page."

   The document should navigate to the next page, but it doesn't. Although the scrollbar or page panel indicates navigation, the display remains frozen without redrawing.

   Furthermore, even when the mouse is moved away from the object (MouseExit), the object remains highlighted and can be challenging to unhighlight.

   This feature, highlighting objects using "Text tool + Cmd key + MouseEnter," has been present in InDesign since its early versions. However, this issue surfaced in version 18 (2023) specifically when using CPU Preview, despite no problems in version 17 (2022).

   There are similar issues with other functions.

   Steps to Reproduce

   In addition to the prerequisites mentioned above, turn on "Highlight Object Under Selection Tool" in "Preferences > Interface." Then, highlight an object with the Selection Tool and press the keyboard shortcut for "Layout > Next Page" (shift+page down).

   The document should move to the next page, but it does not. Similarity to the above bug.

   "Highlight Object Under Selection Tool" is a feature introduced in CS5.5. Turning this off can prevent the issue from occurring.

   However, even when this is turned off, the object highlight with "Text Tool + Cmd Key + MouseEnter" does not turn off. It might be a completely separate function. To avoid confusion, I explained these two separately.

9. [ID-4224416]PDF comments: Delete <FEFF> marker after removal of all comments

   After choosing »Delete all comments« from the fly-out menu of the PDF comments panel at every position, where a comment was before the removal, a <FEFF> char is left behind, which shows up as a zero-width colon (:), when special characters are turned on.

   Since this is a useless char after deleting the comments, the <FEFF> should also be removed, when selecting the removal in the fly-out.

   <FEFF> shows up with XML tags, notes and index markers, so we can’t simply do a TEXT search for <FEFF> to remove it.
   BTW:
   \x{feff} doesn’t work in GREP search, which is kind of strange ...

    Not an idea. a bug.

    Come on guys this is basic stuff - can barely layout info like this.

    I have to zoom in and zoom out to fix. This is unworkable. Just get the basics right guys... Adobe is impossible for reasons like this. If you can't get the basics right - don't bother developing new features. No wonder Apple think you develop below par software. This is your job to develop software that works. Not have arsed software that can barely do the basics. Don't release a 1000 new features when you can't even get the basics right. Two more months and I leave Adobe for good.

    Plus your feedback form is just ****! look at apples feedback form. Simple! No wonder you make it difficult to feedback - because you probably get constant complaints. Idiotic software!

11. Non-breaking hypens and column break in linked word file does not work in InDesign

    I have a word file linked to my InDesign document. However, it is not working as anticipated. Two examples:
    * non-breaking hyphens in the word document disappears in InDesign
    * manual column breaks in the word document becomes pages breaks in InDesign - I have tried to use a second text frame in the same page as a workaround, but the second frame remains empty (until moved to the next page).

12. Arabic Diacritics move to unwanted places if you use an Index Marker in the same line

    1. Adobe InDesign CC 14.0 (Middle Eastern version -- English يدعم العربية)

    2. a. Type this Arabic text: شَيْء غريب

    3. b. Create new Index entry for the second word: غريب

    4. The Diacritics should stay as they were.

    5. Diacritic of the second letter (يْ) goes somewhere else.

13. Baseline of text shifts

    In the last two versions (Am now at latest v16.0) of InDesign this has been happening to me: my fonts baseline shifts mid word, randomly.

14. Copy and Paste from Share for Review Comments panel not working

    You used to be able to copy/paste directly from the REVIEW panel COMMENT when you receive feedback. Now it won't allow you to copy what someone has reviewed and suggested as replacement text. This is very important as it makes it much more efficient to copy it from within InDesign rather than swapping between screens to do it from the browser. Please can you fix this! Thank you!

15. WorldReady settings go missing in [Basic Paragraph] style

    Adobe InDesign (ME) 2021, 2020, CC 2019, ..., CS6
    macOS and Windows

    InDesign's WorldReady settings (Paragraph Direction, Kashidas, etc.) are being stripped from a document's [No Paragraph Style] style when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in (like Em Software's InCatalog). This appears to happen with any 3rd-party plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's lower than the WorldReady plug-in's prefix. While the following steps use the Middle Eastern app (English Arabic), where there's a UI to see the style's empty/blank WorldReady entries, we've confirmed that this problem affects all app variants (including English (Roman)).

    To reproduce:
    1. Install ME version of InDesign 2021 (English Arabic).
    2. Install Em Software's InCatalog plug-in (http://emsoftware.com/products/emcatalog/ ) or any plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix ID below that of WorldReady's 0x50f00. (The SDK's BasicTextAdornment sample will work if its kBscTAPrefixNumber is changed to something like 0x43a00.)
    3. Restart InDesign while holding down Shift-Control-Option/Alt (to ensure the session workspace's [Basic Paragraph] style is rebuilt to include the new plug-in's text attribute).
    4. Create a new document and add a text frame containing a few paragraphs using the [Basic Paragraph] style. This text should compose as right-to-left (the ME version's default direction, as specified by WorldReady's kParagraphDirAttrBoss). Create a numbered list, since that's a great way to see the problem.
    5. Save the document.
    6. Quit InDesign.
    7. Remove InCatalog (or whatever plug-in was installed in step 2).
    8. Restart InDesign.
    9. Open the document that was saved in step 5.

    Alternatively:
    1. Install ME version of InDesign 2021 (English Arabic).
    2. Restart InDesign while holding down Shift-Control-Option/Alt (to ensure a clean session workspace)
    3. Open the attached SavedWithInCat(2021ME).indd file. (Well, UserVoice won't let me upload it. Ask & I can send directly.)

    Notice that the text frame in the opened document incorrectly flows left-to-right and the numbered list's numbers wrongly show on the left rather than the right. Edit the [Basic Paragraph] style and note that the WorldReady settings in the Middle East Character Formats and Indents and Spacing panels are blank/empty. (See attached before-after screenshots.) One would expect a style to survive intact even when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in, but instead some of its settings may be at risk of being lost.

    We've used WorldReady as the victim here, but this problem affects any plug-in, Adobe or 3rd party, that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's higher than the missing plug-in's prefix (such as Em Software's InData).

    Details: We've isolated what looks like a long-standing problem (bug?) with the SDK's AttributeBossList::CopyInto(), where it stops the copy when it encounters an attribute whose plug-in is missing. Instead, the copy should continue after the missing plug-in's entry order to produce a complete list of non-missing attributes. Copies produced by AttributeBossList's Duplicate(), ApplyAttributes(), and its copy-constructor are all affected.

16. Effects Pallet is constantly disappearing from InDesign

    I don't know why, often after a restart of InDesign and sometimes while I'm using it the Effects Pallet disappears and no matter how many times I use the Windows> Effects menu item and it's shortcut Cmd + Shift + F10 I will not appear. It also isn't in the sidebars. I end up having to go through a bunch of preset workspaces until it turns up and then rebuild the workspace.

    Big waste of my time.

17. InDesign 15.0.1 create new guides stops working and all guides disappear

    Mac 10.13.6, InDesign 15.0.1. Repeatable bug. Not related to having any browsers open.

    Create new document, can drag guides to page and see them OK. Paste elements on to page, still OK to create guides Adjust margins and columns, still OK.

    THEN, adjust Document Setup (for me, adding bleed) and all guides disappear. You can drag a guide from rulers and it looks like it is there, but when you click elsewhere on the screen then that guide disappears.

    Please get this sorted. I am sorry to say that this version of InDesign appears to be the buggiest version in quite a while.

18. Cannot copy/paste elements from 2019 to 2020 without the element becoming an image

    InDesign 2019 14.0.3 copy/paste issue into InDesign 2020 15.0.01 (and vice-versa).

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. In a 2019 InD doc, copy a text box with text inside it.
    2. Open a new document in InD 2020.
    3. Paste the text box with text inside it into 2020 InD.
    4. The text becomes an image instead of live text. Though, no links show up in the links panel.
    5. This can be reproduced if copying from 2020 into 2019. But it does not happen if copying/pasting from a 2020 doc into a 2020 doc, 2019 doc into a 2019 doc.
    6. This happens with other elements, such as boxes with strokes and no text.

    I'm not aware of this happening before or that this is a preference issue. Seems like a bug.

19. Text selection selects whole document AND cursor jumps to top of document after saving

    InCopy 14.0. MacOs Mojave 10.14.4
    I work in a icml-document which was assigned to me from InDesign. It contains references to other documents and a lot of comments (for the designer).
    After I have made the third or later comment, it becomes impossible to select text. InCopy selects the text from the top of the document upto the point where I click the mouse. When I try Option+Shift+Arrow, the cursor jumps to the top of the document. I can save the document, after which the issue is away until I have made a few extra comments, but which also puts the cursor again at the top of the document. This is unworkable, because I continually have to search the position I was editing.
    I have tried to switch from Adobe CC to iCloud Drive, this makes no difference.
    I have tried to copy all the content to a fresh document, this also makes no difference.
    I unfortunately cannot attach the document that I am working on, because this page does nog accept icml-files of a zipfile.

20. InDesign is very slow

    The latest version is virtually unusable. If I select an image or text box on a layout I get a spinning wheel for 10 - 15 seconds. If I try to move something - spinning wheel 10-15 seconds. Try to save a document - spinning wheel 10-15 seconds. Previous versions did not behave this way on this same computer. No other applications behave this way.

    My Mac is a late 2012 model, 32Gb RAM, 2 SSD drives; one for the OS / Applications and one for the customer files. GeForce video card (came with the computer with 1Gb RAM.

    I have attached a Quicktime video of this behavior. The long pauses between seeing the cursor move are the times when the application has a spinning wheel. Then is works for a minute or two and starts all over again.

    Dozens of users in the forums are reporting this problem with this version.

    Hello All,

    Thank you for your patience all this while.
    We had launched our investigation into the matter to get to the root cause of the problem. As the part of our investigation, we had reached out to many of you personally over email.
    We have concluded our investigation and have come up with few findings.

    1. For many of the users the issue got fixed after updating InDesign to a newer version.
    2. For some, the issue got resolved after disabling a third-party application such as Suitecase fusion etc.
    3. For few, the issue was intermittent and is no longer reproducible.
    4. For majority of the users, the underlying cause of the performance issue was identified to be related to span columns, cross-references, third party plugin etc.

    We have created separated threads for these issues and we are now working towards resolving them.

    However, over the time this thread has become too generic to serve its purpose effectively. As per your feedback and the outcome of our investigation we have created multiple threads to address each root cause separately and effectively.
    If you are facing any slowness in InDesign or seeing any other performance issue, we request you vote for the relevant thread or create a new thread specifying the action/workflow which is slowing you down.
