  1. Pages of my 300-page file disappear

    Hello,

I recently took over the creation of my company's general catalog (300 pages), which I had previously entrusted to another graphic designer, who transferred the file to me. Since I've taken over the design of the catalog, I've run into a lot of different problems:

Sometimes, entire pages disappear. Sometimes, text and images are preserved and visible when I'm in “W”, but the background of the blank page is no longer visible. As a result, when I'm no longer in “W”, the page disappears completely.

Also, sometimes images disappear, for no reason at all, or strange shapes appear next…

  2. Indesign 16.3.2, Keyboard shortcut for preview (W) changes text appearance (from left justified to right justified) — but prints accurately.

Recent update to 16.3.2 — am working on an InDesign document that has a line of left-justified text.
    1. When I use the keyboard shortcut "W" to view the document in Preview Mode (without boxes/positioning lines) the text jumps to the right hand side of the page.
    2. When I click out of Preview mode (W again) it shows me the text where I placed it — left justified. I saved the document and reopened it and the bug is still there. When I make a pdf from it, or print the page, the line is correctly on the…

  3. V 20.0 Bugs

Text box content disappearing. Only will reappear after box is moved or typed in. Some content may appear and some will not be visible until box is moved again. This happens often when typing or deleting text.
Also, now I only have 2 undos. History only shows two items.
Just updated to 20.0 and these issues occurred right after. Please fix!

We will need more info on this, is this happening with all documents or with some specfic documents.

Does this happen after creating or opening documents or both?

What are the steps you have performed which are not there in History?

  4. import pdf comments

    1. ID 14 Mac
    2. Copy text out of a comment to paste into layout
    3. Would expect that the cursor could be used to select all or part of an imported PDF comment
    4. In fact it is EXTREMELY difficult to get the palette to recognize that text is selected in the palette interface. The "Copy" popup does not appear a large proportion of the time, or you can't select the range of characters you need. Even though Acrobat is terrible at the same process, it is significantly faster to copy the needed range of characters from the comment in Acrobat and switch…

  5. World-Ready Composer – Nonbreaking & Flush Bugs

NOTE: Please see the attached screenshots
    Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer ONLY

    1. NONBREAKING SPACE (FLEXIBLE) BEHAVES AS FIXED WIDTH:
The "Nonbreaking Space" fails to expand/compress in justified text. It stays at a fixed width, making it identical to the "Nonbreaking Space (Fixed Width)".

    2. MULTIPLE FLUSH SPACES FAIL TO DISTRIBUTE EQUALLY:
In a single line only the last Flush Space in the line expands, while the others behave like standard spaces.

    Expected behavior:
NONBREAKING SPACE: Should flex with justification.
FLUSH SPACES: Should distribute the empty space equally between all instances in the line.

    System Info: MacOS+Windows
    All InDesign versions

  6. InDesign 2019 Fails to open properly and freezes.

I recently updated to InDesign 2019 and had no problem using it last week.
Today it is not opening properly, taking around 10 minutes to open a file, then freezes the second I try to do anything in a text box.

It has occurred with every file I've tried, multiple times.
I have also tried ending all InDesign processes and restarting my computer.

Not sure if anyone else has come across this issue?

  7. Active adobe fonts are unstable.

16.0 x64 - I have been experiencing issues with Adobe fonts, where I can't edit them. For example, resizing to a larger font value or even adding more text. The font (or the entire text box) will completely disappear or it will switch to a default font even though the correct font is chosen. The only way to correct it is to close the document and restart. But it doesn't mean the font will be stable. I don't seem to have this issue with locally installed fonts.

  8. main artboard disappears when plugging in or unplug display (GPU Viewing Problem)

I work with switching setups on my macbook, sometimes without an external screen, sometimes i move to my home office and plug in a bigger display.

When indesign is opened and a file is opened, you cant do that without having to save and reopen the document. Because whenever you attach or detach a display - the main artboard / window with pages turns completely grey / invisble and you cant see anything anymore, but you can hover the elements.

Switching to "Overprint Preview" brings back the visibility, switching it off makes the pages invisible again. Same with "Preview on…

  9. Pasteboard flashes in sync cursor with GPU performance enabled

In my experience, this is a new issue arising with InDesign 2023. Anytime the cursor is active in a text frame, the pasteboard flashes in sync with the cursor. If I click another application so the cursor stops flashing, the pasteboard also stops flashing. If I select the frame or something else in InDesign so the cursor disappears, it stops flashing. But anytime the cursor is active and flashing, the pasteboard also flashes. It's very annoying and distracting, and assuming it's a graphics issue, I deactivated GPU Performance. This fixed the issue. I'm on iOS 11.6.7 (with Apple M1…

  10. Can't do long math in some Opacity text fields

This is a very minor bug I ran into. In certain text fields that set an object's Opacity value, the character limit is 5 characters, which is not enough to do certain mathematical operations, like 12.5/2. If the value is a decimal number with two places, no math can be performed at all.

The 5 character limit applies to the control that appears in the Control panel when selecting an object, and the control that appears in the Effects panel when selecting an object.

The only field that allows enough characters to perform that operation is the one found in…

  11. Footnote: Problems with Small caps when using World-Ready Paragraph Composer

ID 23 and 24: When the Footnote Text Paragraph Style has World-Ready Paragraph Composer enabled, then there is a problem with formatting in the first line of the footnote: Starting from Footnote 10, the problem appears. When Small Caps is applied (via open type font) then the style is applied to 1 letter before the styled text range and 1 letter at the end of the text is not styled as should be. So the staling is shifted for 1 letter regarding the applied style. When the footnote number is 3 digits, then the styling is shifted by 2 letters.

  13. Automatic insertion of columns upon text alteration, always in the same spot on the page; this occurs irrespective of style (paragraph, char

Posted that this was happening last update: this column "Layout" occurs no matter what style (paragraph or character) is selected, and the column layout affects all text placed over the area where the automatic "columns" occurs, in other words, anything adjusted or placed over the area (positioned always two columns at approx 4" down the page).
What seems to trigger the insertion of this four-line column layout is any text alteration - it gets inserted on random pages!
I have checked all "unseen" screens, object styles, text box controls, preferences. I am completely flummoxed (user of Adobe InDesign over 25…

  14. Anchored frame looses the XML tag information as soon as anchor is released/anchor point is moved forward.

    Steps to reproduce

    1. Create an anchored text/graphic frame with some inline text/image. Tag the frame with some XML Tag (say 'tag1').

    2. Now release the anchor.

    Expected output
    - On releasing the anchor, there should be no changes in the XML tag on frame.

    Actual output
    - On releasing the anchor, the frame gets untagged.

Additional note: Similar thing happens when anchor is moved forward to another position in inline text. In this case also, frames gets untagged

  15. Indesign performance issue : slow opening, saving, exporting files

InDesign taking up to 5 minutes to open a file. The file is a one-page document. Two minutes of nothing, then 2 minutes of a blue status bar, then another minute watching the tiny status bar on the application icon in the doc. Once the file is "open" it isn't visible until I toggle back and forth between InDesign and another application. Saving, even after changing only one text character, takes 55 seconds. Exporting a 30 page document to PDF took 20 minutes.

  16. When a comment is made in a PDF using the Insert Text tool, that comment doesn't map to ID 18.5 and previous versions.

For the past month or so the insert text comments made in a PDF do not map to the InDesign doc. I'm getting comments from multiple users. All other mark-up is mapping as expected except insert text. I update ID every time a new version is released but this bug seems to be persistent.

  17. Text boxes only showing the line I'm editing and not the entire paragraph

    Not an idea. a bug.

Come on guys this is basic stuff - can barely layout info like this.

Text boxes only showing the line I'm editing and not the entire paragraph
This is constantly happening. I'm on the latest everything. M1 MacBook Pro.

I have to zoom in and zoom out to fix. This is unworkable. Just get the basics right guys... Adobe is impossible for reasons like this. If you can't get the basics right - don't bother developing new features. No wonder Apple think you develop below par software. This is your job to develop software that…

  18. Non-breaking hypens and column break in linked word file does not work in InDesign

I have a word file linked to my InDesign document. However, it is not working as anticipated. Two examples:
    * non-breaking hyphens in the word document disappears in InDesign
    * manual column breaks in the word document becomes pages breaks in InDesign - I have tried to use a second text frame in the same page as a workaround, but the second frame remains empty (until moved to the next page).

  20. Paragraph style changes when copy/pasting

    Indesign 13.1/13.0.1, macOS, UTS 6.1.5

When copy-pasting text or text frames from one document to another or even in the same document, paragraph style is changed to "standard copy".
The correct paragraph style is present, allocated and identical in all documents.
The paragraph style "standard"/"standard copy" is not present in any document (german version) before copy-pasting.
