Indesign 2024 Unable to Recognize Variable Fonts from Documents Created with Previous Version
InDesign 2024 (v19.0) fails to recognize variable fonts from documents created in previous version. Specifically, Helvetica Now Variable weights and widths are reported as missing. Running MacOS Sonoma (but the same system opens the file without issue when using InDesign 2023… can’t be an OS issue.)

Still having the same problem here, which means I can't implement my designs. The best (and generally not really that useful) workaround is to do some or all of the work in Illustrator instead. The recent Indesign update to 19.1 didn't fix this issue for me. Adobe, please help!

Following up on this post. Has anyone slayed this dragon? Looking at screen shot below "Helv-text black" shows the font Helv. Black 13pt. Changing the point size to 14pt for the second screen shot changes the font name to [Text-14.000 Black]. The font is then "missing." This can be corrected by selecting the type, and physically changing the font back to (in this case) Helv Black, but that is less than ideal to say the least.

Same here with Helvetica Now. In an existing document with Helvetica Now, the fonts are missing. In a new document created with InDesign 2024, the fixed widths work but the font breaks as soon as I use the variable feature. Font works fine in Illustrator, and other variable fonts work in InDesign. Monotype tell me that it is a known issue with Helvetica Now in InDesign awaiting fix. Really important to me as I rely on being able to use the variable features of Helvetica Now for specific project. Hoping for fix soon.
