1. ID 17 English LTR document with any RTL text exports as RTL epub

   I edited this to remove the urgent notice. The publisher does not want to publish this book as an epub.

   The basic problem remains, however.

   When exporting an epub 3.0 from an academic book written in English with some RTL text sections, typically tables with Hebrew and English text, the epub exports in reverse order. That is, the title page is at the end of the epub, and the last page of the text is the first in the epub. So far it seems that the presence of any RTL elements, even a single character, causes the epub to export as if it were an RTL book.

   17.2.1, 17.1 and 17.0.1 all export the same way.

   The reflowable epub export General tab has the Content -> Order set to "Based on Page Layout". That is the only option available.

   To reproduce, export to reflowable epub a book with a few RTL elements. I created a 50 page 6×9 in. lorem ipsum ID document with three Hebrew words in the first sentence; exporting the file as a reflowable epub results in the first page at the end of the file. Even a single RTL character is sufficient to export with the first page at the end of the epub.

   I cannot attach my .indd test file; it should be be easy enough to create one.

   The attached screen snap shows that the epub page ordering is from right to left.

2. map Word lists to InDesign lists and paragraph styles

   As the InDesign help documentation notes (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/map-export-manage-styles.html), "Text styles with bullet or number lists may not be copied or exported to a different application with the bullets or numbers intact." The suggested workflow is extremely time-consuming for a long document where every paragraph is assigned to a hierarchical outline structure in Word, since each paragraph has to be manually assigned to the correct paragraph style and the Word outline numbering that was converted to text needs to be manually deleted. In addition, when placing the document, it creates a separate new "imported list" style from each Word list, resulting in hundreds of unused list styles that need to be individually deleted in another tedious process (why isn't there any way to delete all unused Lists? or at least allow me to select multiple for deletion in the Define Lists dialog.)

   A much faster workflow would be the following: in the place Word doc import options, add a section for mapping numbered/lettered lists in Word to InDesign lists and paragraph styles. Allow me to map each Word list hierarchy level to a corresponding InDesign list Level, assigned to a single InDesign list (this is a many-to-one reassignment). Also allow me to map each Word list hierarchy level to a corresponding InDesign paragraph style (this is a one-to-many reassignment, since Word allows multiple list levels in a single list Style).

5. Exported PNGs or JPEGs RGB Colors Slightly Different Versus Illustrator Export For Screens

   So here is the situation and setup.

   Illustrator File with Pantone Colors (Book LAB colors)
   Color Settings are synced via Bridge (NA General Purpose)
   Illustrator file is in CMYK Mode

   In Illustrator File is exported to PNG (via Exported for Screens)

   In InDesign the same Illustrator file is placed in InDesign and then Exported as PNG file.

   When looking at the attached image the RGB values are slightly different most noticeably in the red. When looked at with the eyedropper in PS the CMYK values read as the same on both but the RGB is slightly different.

   For example:

   InDesign PNG File Red = R255 G68 B56
   Illustrator PNG File Red = R239 G72 B62

   I tried saving the Illustrator file with and without an embedded color profile and no difference.

   So the question is, am I missing a setting or option somewhere or does InDesign just convert the Pantone/Lab/Values differently and if so should they not be the same across apps?

   Note: I did do a test where I converted the Pantone Colors in the FIle to CMYK Process Colors and that made the colors equal but for workflow reasons I like to keep one file and not have to create separate Non Pantone versions of the file if it can be helped.

   So here is the situation and setup.

6. BUG with master text frames, master pages and "allow pages to shuffle"

   Hello,

   Latest Indesign CC on Windows 10 64bits.

   I have a document, with a master page template applied to all pages in the document. There are master text frames inside the master page template, perfectly aligned with the margins on each left, and right page. In my master page template, I have set up the following margins for left pages :

   top : 46pt
   bottom : 46pt
   outside : 56pt
   inside : 46pt

   And the right pages margins set up as follow :

   top : 46pt
   bottom : 46pt
   outside : 46pt
   inside : 46pt

   On the left pages, I have a solid holding the current category / section, so I have set a larger outside margin.

   Everything looks good and aligned (text boxes are controled by master pages master text frames) until I delete one page for example, which makes every following right page, a left page, and every left page, a right page.

   From this point, in my pages, all text boxes are misaligned to the margins set in the master page template. That is to say that from now on, left pages have text boxes which are the size of right pages text boxes, and right pages text boxes have the size of left pages text boxes.

   To fix it, I have to select all my pages, and reapply my master page template to update the text boxes to match the master page's master text frames.

   Then, the text frames are finally properly aligned to the margins set in the master page template.

   I don't think this is how it should behave. Master text frames should always be synchronized to the master page templates and should not have to be reapplied manually...

   I might be using this wrong but I can't figure out an auto fix, and this gets really annoying when you have to fine tune your document, remove some elements, which can makes me delete some pages, which causes this issue.

   Any fix ? What about a option to make indesign aware when right pages become left pages, and left pages become right pages, and reapply automatically the master page template to adapt to those changes ?

   Am I alone with this issue ?

7. Save/Save as corrupts file

   InDesign 2021, running on Mac OS 10.14.6, on a iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)

   I recently "upgraded" my version of InDesign to the latest 2021 version. I thought, why not, new features, upgraded stability.

   Or so I thought....

   I started working on a document, a newsletter, that I retrieved from our archive as it is a quarterly magazine. I opened the file and proceeded to start working on it. Did a couple of pages and thought I'd better save it.

   Command+s, message pops up saying this file is damaged and/or corrupt, save it as something else. Which I did, and so it came up with another warning saying, "this file is damaged and will be recovered".

   Ok, so I saved a recovery file, tried to open that, then I got hit with a InDesign serious error warning and will be shut down.

   Tried again a few times and went through the same process. So then I thought it may be the preferences, So I launched the application holding down shift+option+command and it seemed to work. I managed to actually save a document without any corruption. Great!

   I thought I'd sorted it, now, tried to work on my document again and its doing the same thing.

   Got sick of my time being wasted.

   Uninstalled

   Re-installed the previous InDesign and it seems to be fine now.

   I installed the latest version as it boasted "upgraded stability" This is very much so, not the case.

8. Bugs avec Windows 10 Pro

   De nombreux bugs d'utilisation des logiciels Adobe avec Windows 10 Pro (In Design / Illustrator et Photoshop).
   Dans InDesign : les fonds perdus sont ajoutés au PDF lorsqu'ils ne sont pas cochés dans les options d'export du PDF, ce n'est pas normal.
   Création de Nouveau document : les options de nouveau document ne répondent pas (dans l'interface de démarrage du logiciel et dans le logiciel par le menu), même constat dans Illustrator.
   La fenêtre "Format" n'apparaît pas toujours lorsque l'on veut l'afficher par Fichier > Format de documents... Je suis obligée de cliquer sur "Echap", car le logiciel ne répond plus. Très gênant de ne pas pouvoir modifier les formats.
   Merci de trouver des solutions à tous ces bugs présents dans la suite Adobe pour ceux et celles qui comme moi, utilisent Winsdows 10 Pro pour travailler.

9. no correct hyphenation of German words with dashes

   In German we have many terms consisting of two or more words with dashes in between. Everybody would hyphenate these naturally behind the dashes. InDesign is unable to do so, but suggests multiple wrong or ugly hyphenations and leaves the dashes as if they were non-breaking hyphens, which they are not! I know this problem since several years. I had it in CS5 and 6 as well as in every later version and today in InDesign 2020.
   For example: In cookbooks there are often intermediate products consisting of two or more ingredients. Some (artificial) examples:
   Das Mehl mit dem Kakaopulver, dem Backpulver und 1/4 TL Salz mischen und unter das Ei-Butter-Gemisch rühren. Die Mehl-Aprikosen-Flüssigkeit unterrühren. Die Eigelbe wie im Grundrezept beschrieben unter die Butter-Zucker-Mischung rühren. Ein Drittel Eischnee mit dem Mehl-Backpulver-Ansatz unterrühren, dann die restliche Ei-Bananen-Milch mit einem Holzkochlöffel vorsichtig unterheben.
   „Butter-Zucker-Mischung“ everybody would preferably and correctly hyphenate (\) like this: Butter-\Zucker-\Mischung, but InDesign produces only something ugly and devious like But\ter-Zu\cker-Mi\schung and so to speak considers both dashes as non-breaking hyphen. My only solution each time is manual hyphenation or an own entry in the user dictionary. The effort is too much because it happens too often.
   In German you can combine nouns arbitrarily and optionally separate them with dashes, so that the text is more clear and comprehensible. As the given combinations of nouns vary all the time it is an unnacceptable effort to define a hyphenation exception for every one of them in the user dictionary. InDesign just has to acknowledge that hyphenating directly behind the dash(es) is the first choice instead of simply wrong!
   I cannot imagine that a general rule like this would create a problem in other languages and different contexts. Hyphenation directly behind the dash(es) is always by far the most aesthetic solution.
   The problem does not only affect cookbooks. There are millions of possible cases, such as: Stephen-King-Filme, Agatha-Christie-Romane, Freund-Feind-Erkennung, Ein-Aus-Schalter, Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, Tag-Nacht-Schaltung, Willy-Brandt-Allee (along with thousands of other street names), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität …

10. swatch / colour display bug IND 19.2 - not all swatches used are appearing in swatch panel

    New update Indesign 19.2 swatches / colours in document not all appearing in swatches panel - you've always been able to easily delete a swatch in indesign and it'll delete everywhere if, for example, you paste something from another document and it brings in a conflicting colour, without having to use "find swatch" (which is great for finding where it's used but not as fast if you don't care where it is).

    Yesterday I noticed not all swatches used are appearing however. A text box I had used a colour background that definitely isn't in swatches. I also noticed one file in RGB didn't have a swatch appearing that was CMYK although I've since noticed it in other files without that conflict (and previously you could always have both CMYK and RGB swatches in a doc).

    Also noticing some line and type display issues, lines exporting different thicknesses despite being set to the same, and text not centred vertically when I always set up my text boxes to autosize and using baseline set to cap height, with vertical justification set to align centre in text frame options, always works, now it's not displaying great when zoomed out, but exports ok, or the other way around, looks ok then exports to jpg mis-aligned. Sometimes on the same page multiple frames set the same way, some will be fine and others slightly out of alignment...

    New update Indesign 19.2 swatches / colours in document not all appearing in swatches panel - you've always been able to easily delete a swatch in indesign and it'll delete everywhere if, for example, you paste something from another document and it brings in a conflicting colour, without having to use "find swatch" (which is great for finding where it's used but not as fast if you don't care where it is).

11. Publish Online Dialog Box is Completely Blanked Out Except Top Border and Minimize X

    While in InDesign CC 2018 (13.0.1 x64) and selecting the "Publish Online" button or drop down menu command, the dialog box that pops up is completely blacked out. The only discernable features are the border and the "X" to close out of the dialog box. When hovering the mouse over the dialog box, it responds in ways that alert you to the fact all the features are still there and active - you just cant see them. The text field curser and the hand with a pointing finger appear at different spots. To see what would happen, I clicked in the box where I suspected the "Publish" button would be and it did actually publish my document online. So everything seems to be working fine except you cannot see what you're selecting. This obviously prevents one from naming a file or selecting various options.

    I spent three hours with support to resolve the issue with no improvement. Support took control of my computer and we went through a lot of steps.
    Upon restarting my computer at one juncture I was disconnected from support and did not re-establish a connection. Here is a list of things we did before that happened.

    • Deleted preferences
    • Signed out and signed back in (a bunch)
    • Deleted Temp Files
    • Uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign
    • Uninstalled "cleaned" and reinstalled InDesign
    • Uninstalled Creative Cloud and all related files, then reinstalled
    • Changed default browser
    • Removed Ad Block
    • Changed some file permissions
    • and a bunch of other things I didn't really understand

    Help.

12. Crash when scaling text beound 1296 pt

    I can repeatably make InDesign crash by:

    1: Creating a big page (Mine is 250x100cm)
    2: Making a textframe and writing a short word (I wrote "café")
    3: Hit "E" and scale the frame by dragging the corners
    4: If I scale the frame so the point size is higher than 1296 pt InDesign will crash.

    I am on InDesign 15.0.2 on MacOS 10.14.6

13. Title: Restore Immediate Visibility of Resize Handles on Frame Selection Post

    In the latest InDesign updates, the resize handles (bounding box corners and sides) no longer appear immediately when selecting a text or graphic frame. They only show up after moving the cursor. This is a serious usability issue.

    Without visible handles, there's no clear feedback that the correct object has been selected—especially problematic when working with layered or overlapping elements. This change breaks long-standing workflow habits and slows down production.

    Please restore the previous behavior or at least add a preference toggle to always show resize handles immediately upon selection.

14. Can't change bounding box size when stroke is applied

    InDesign 15.0.1

    When I create a rectangle with fancy corners, when I change the stroke to the outside it won't let me adjust the size of the box. If I grab the side and drag it to where I want it snaps into place smaller. If I go up to the tool bar at the top & try to change it that way regardless of whether I try to change it bigger or smaller it just makes it smaller & it doesn't just go 1px at a time it changes 6px+ & if I try to just do vertical it will change both.

15. InDesign CC 2026 - Arrange windows does not use full screen area

    When using InDesign without the application frame ("Anwendungsrahmen" in the german version we use) active, opening multiple documents and trying to arrange them with any of the options in Windows > Arrange ("Fenster" > "Anordnen") the windows are arranged according to the deactivated/invisible application frame and not the full screen as in previous versions. Also, when the application frame is scaled to the full screen and then deactivated, the arranged windows keep a thin row on the bottom of the screen free (and overlap in the vertical center by this amount). Please see attached screens for visualization.

    4. Create multiple documents (in this example 4 documents)

    5. Use the command Window > Arrange > "Neben-/Untereinander"

    6. Windows are arranged according to the deactivated/invisible application frame instead of the full screen area.

       Windows arranged within the available screen area as in previous version (see attached screenshot "InDesign CC2025.png", this shows the correct behaviour in InDesign CC 2025)

16. Window Management Not Apple/MacOS Standard

    The window management across all adobe apps but most of all inDesign is buggy and not the correct apple standard. You can see its not inline with other apps and the native resizing tools by looking at the edges of the application and the rounded corners.

    Window management tools do not work with inDesign as it resizes it self. Grabbing edges is extremely difficult and usability is bad. Traffic lights tend to move down to about 3/4 into the document or disappear all together.

17. InDesign 2025 (v20.3.1) freezes when interacting with modal dialog panels on macOS 15.5 (Sequoia)

    Hi Adobe team,

    I’m experiencing repeated, non-reproducible hangs in InDesign 2025 (v20.3.1) when interacting with certain modal dialog panels — such as Panel Options, Color Panel settings, and similar. This occurs on macOS 15.5 (Sequoia). After clicking inside one of these dialogs, InDesign sporadically becomes unresponsive (beachball), requiring a force quit via “Force Quit Applications.”

    The issue existed before a complete clean install of macOS and continues to occur even after the fresh system setup with no migration or prior settings carried over.

    Here are the key system details:
    • macOS version: 15.5 (24F74) – Developer Beta (Sequoia)
    • Mac model: MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max, 64 GB RAM
    • Displays: Dual Apple Studio Displays
    • InDesign version: 20.3.1 (latest Creative Cloud release as of June 2025)
    • No plugins installed
    • Font manager: RightFont (fonts synced via Dropbox folder, no Adobe plugin)
    • User environment: Freshly created custom workspaces
    • Documents: Problem occurs even with new, blank files
    • macOS was clean-installed from scratch before testing

    The hangs are unpredictable and extremely disruptive — multiple times a day — making productive work almost impossible. It’s incredibly frustrating to deal with such instability in basic UI operations like opening panel dialogs.

    Attached is a .hang report from macOS, which shows the InDesign main thread stalling in:
    UI::ModalDialogManager::RunModalLoop()
    BscModalDialog::DoModal()
    ControlPanel::ShowOptionsDialog()

    Other threads remain idle, indicating a UI-level deadlock — likely caused by a modal dialog waiting on OS-level window interaction that never completes.

    This seems related to changes in macOS 15’s window or dialog behavior, potentially affecting how InDesign renders or processes modal components.

    I understand Sequoia is still in beta, but since the issue exists in InDesign’s current public release (20.3.1) and is severe enough to disrupt daily work, I wanted to report it early.

18. "Copy Links To" option in the Links panel does not flag as a change in the document.

    Therefore, InDesign does not prompt to save the change and the document continues to link to the previous location if closed. I was able to reproduce this problem on MacOS High Sierra and Windows 10 with both InDesign CC 2017 and 2018.

19. Text frames in Object Libraries won't retain style settings

    Version: InDesign, version 16.4 on Mac OS Big Sur, version 11.6

    I am encountering an issue involving text frames that do not retain their object style settings when inserted and/or saved within object libraries. Font/paragraph styles are unaffected, but object style attributes such as vertical justification, text wrap, fill, stroke and inset spacing are all lost (revert to defaults) upon being added to the library. The same is true for settings made while editing the library items directly.

    This problem only involves individual text frames, and does not seem to affect any other type of graphic added to the library (including image frames and text frames that have been grouped with other objects), which do hold onto their settings as expected.

    Steps to reproduce the issue: (Specific settings listed are not necessary to reproduce the problem, but are provided to show each of the different settings)
    1. Create new object library
    2. In new document, draw in text frame with sample text.
    3. In Properties, set Fill to any color; In Text Wrap, set to "Wrap Around Bounding Box"; In Text Frame Options, set vertical justification to bottom, and inset spacing to any value.
    4. Insert text frame into the new library (all object settings listed in step 3 will have reverted to defaults, leaving the text frame that was just inserted into the library as it appeared after step 2).
    5. Double click on the item within the library to open for editing, and re-apply all the object settings listed in step 3. Save and close. (All object settings will again revert to defaults, leaving the text frame exactly as it appeared after step 2).

    Expected result: The text frame, upon being inserted into the library, should retain all of its settings and appear exactly as it did originally.

    Actual result: While paragraph styles are unaffected, object style settings including fill, stroke, vertical justification, inset spacing and text wrap all revert to defaults.

    After setting the desired properties for the Text Frame, select the text frame object and in the CC Libraries panel, click on the ‘+’ icon at the bottom of the panel – here you will see various options like Fill color, Text, Character style, Paragraph style, and Graphic.
    You can also choose to Add all.
    Choosing ‘Add all’ will add separate items in the CC Libraries – you will find Fill color, Text, any Char/Para style, and a Graphic. Use any of these according to your needs.

20. Duplicating Page with table and copy/pasting a table changes content of table BUG?

    Version: 14.0.2

    I have a table that represents a linear calendar. Each month occupies a single row. I created a table to make the calendar, with each date in its own cell. I had some trouble figuring out how to make a new cell start at 1 for each month, as it wanted to continue from the last month's last date (...32, 33, 34, ...). I managed to make it work by changing the numbering options on each individual starting cell.

    However, now when I try to duplicate a page containing the calendar, or if I try to copy/paste the calendar, the individual cell's formatting seems to disappear, as the numbering on half of them continue from the numbering on the previous row.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Make a table with enough rows and columns to reproduce the consecutive numbering (For the months, most of my rows are 1-30) The columns represent the weekdays, repeating as many times as needed for the staggered dates.
    2. Select a cell in row 2 and add a blank character. I used 'End Nested Style Here' character per instructions from another InDesign user: Type>Insert Special Character>Other>End nested
    3. With cursor in cell, open Bullets and Numbering dialog. Select Number, put ^# in Number box, and Continue from Previous in Mode box. I also made sure the greyed-out box next to it said 1 (seemed to make a difference when I changed numbers). Then click OK.
    4. Follow the same procedure in a random cell on the next row, except in the Bullets and Numbering dialog you will this time choose a new list in the List dropdown.
    5. Repeat for all rows. Because I'm creating a calendar, the number list (1-30) staggers.
    6. Once the table is full, copy and paste it onto a new page. Then copy the entire page. For me, both produced the same result. 1, 2, 3,... was replaced with 31,32,33,... or 32, 33, 34... on some rows.
