Crash when working with book TOC

Invisible character
Apply all Auto Edits inserts an invisible character before which then interferes with Find and Replace. When pasted into a GREP search, it looks like ~I, but can't be found. It can be manually removed, but this is not helpful, as I need to be able to perform a comprehensive Find/Replace.

Unable to Import PDF Comments from Acrobat 2019 Shared Review
PDFs with shared Reviews running off the Adobe Document Cloud are not able to import comments into InDesign.
Since Acrobat 2019, we are no longer able to use our own review server. There's now a big blue button to share the review using the Adobe Document Cloud. While this simplifies using Shared Reviews, the review PDF is now hosted and maintained by Adobe. Then, there is no longer a way to import the comments into InDesign.
To import a PDF's Shared Review Comments, InDesign requires access to the copy of the PDF containing the comments. With Acrobat 2019, this copy has been moved to the Adobe Document Cloud and is inaccessible even by the originating user. If the user attempts to save a local copy, he is told that the copy will be saved WITHOUT comments.

Text cursor disappears - Mojave and InDesign CC 13.1
After upgrading to Mac OSX Mojave (10.14), using InDesign CC 13.1 ME, the text cursor disappears. All other cursors appear as expected. This happens both with the standard Text tool, and the ME Text tool.

Drop CAP Extends to the Next Paragraph
When a paragraph using a drop initial has fewer lines than what is indicated in the drop initial dialog, the following paragraph indents for as many lines as is missing in the previous drop initial paragraph, even if the following paragraph has space between it and the preceding drop initial paragraph.
The attached example shows a 1 line paragraph with drop a initial set up as 2 lines. The next paragraph indents.
I think it very odd that the drop initial formatting goes beyond the paragraph to which it is applied. Took me a bit to figure out where the mystery indent was coming from in the paragraph after the drop initial paragraph.

InDesign Publish Online Not Clickable on Windows in Chrome or Firefox
Working in: Adobe InDesign CC 2018
We recently published a guide online using Adobe Publish online. The clickable elements (buttons, interactive elements) are not clickable on touchscreen PCs in Chrome or Firefox, but the touchscreen works (not as clean, but works). This issue is not present when the PC users are in safari or internet explorer. All content was created and published on a Mac, and no macs have had an issue.
The content is private, but I can send the guide to anyone from Adobe on a person-person basis.

InDesign CC Server 2018.1 crashes when applying masterSpread to a page
InDesign CC Server 2018.1 crashes when applying masterSpread to a page.
The code attached in file "Script.txt" crashes when executing "item.appliedMaster = masterSpread;".
The file "File.indd" is on which I execute the script.
I works properly in InDesign CS6 and InDesign CC 2018.1.
I've been searching on Internet and I couldn't find any issue similar to mine.
I think it is a bug but maybe I'm missing something prior to execute that sentence.

Hyperlinks broken over two lines exports incorrectly to PDF
Using InDesign CC 13.0.1, I have some urls in a paragraph that are fairly long so have to break over two lines, e.g.
www.websiteaddress.com/subpage/
pagenameWhen I export to pdf, the link will just link to www.websiteaddress.com/subpage/ and the bit with "pagename" is ignored.
I found similar problems posted online from a few years back and the workaround was to set your hyperlinks using the hyperlinks palette, not just rely on the pdf to detect the links automatically. I've done this manually to my document, but the problem persists. I can get the full link to work behind the first line of text, but the second line is just plain text with no link.
I've managed to add a link to the second line manually using Acrobat after creating my PDF, but I feel that this shouldn't be necessary.

Exporting Emojis to PDF
I built a newsletter with the use of the new Apple Emoji "glyphs" in InDesign and when I went to export it as a PDF, it replaced my emojis with random images from my file.
I talked with Adobe support and learned that only vector emojis can be used in PDFs which is a bit frustrating! Can we update the PDF export capability to include these new emoji features, so we can use the glyphs like I think that they were intended? I'd be a happy camper!! Thank you in advance!

Tab controls are buggy. InDesign CC 2018
When using the Tabs control dialogue box all sorts of problems begin to manifest. First, as you are working with the tabs controls page elements go sideways. Text overlaps, sometimes entire paragraphs preceding the area you are working in.
On occasion, the tabs simply don't line up to where you assign them, even when you do so numerically. (See screenshot)
Settings for paragraph styles take precedence over tabs settings (even though tabs traditionally were the opposite, taking precedence.)

InDesign changing opacity for an unselected item
I am trying to place a slightly opaque rectangle over an image but when I select to lower the opacity on the rectangle, the image (regardless if it's above or below) changes as well.
What's more odd is when I select that photo after I do the action, the image says it is at 100%. The "change" has not been reflected. I have uploaded a 1-2-3 photo demo. Note the photo's slight change in transparency although set at 100%.
This happens when the photo and rectangle are in separate layers, as well. The two items are not placed within each other. They are also not grouped.

10 votesThe magic of InDesign’s effects all happens via Adobe’s transparency technology, which allows us to blend colors and detail from different objects. In order for it to all work there has to be a consistent color space for InDesign to use when it blends colors. This is called the Transparency Blend Space and it’s really important that you understand it in order to get the most out of InDesign’s effects. When we use transparency effects, InDesign compares different objects and combines their colors and detail. In order for objects to be blended, they have to be in the same color space. So when you apply transparency, InDesign converts everything on a spread to the Transparency Blend Space, regardless of whether that object is actually involved in the effect. And it’s important to note that when we say things are converted, we don’t mean that InDesign alters your placed files; they are left completely alone. What we mean is that InDesign is using a different method for interpreting the colors in those files. It simulates as if you change the colors in those documents, just to give itself a reliable method for blending. It’s a totally nondestructive change. See the Transparency Blend Space and check if it is Document CMYK. So now if you apply any transparency on this spread, everything on the spread will be converted to the Document CMYK blend space. You can test this by selecting any object and going to the Effects panel and just changing the Opacity from 100% to 99% and you can see that all the colors shift. That’s really interesting because they’re not even touching. But just because they’re on the same spread, InDesign will convert them to the transparency blend space.
Remember, everything on a spread is converted to the blend space that is selected under the Edit menu. Keep an eye out for color shifts when you apply effects and know what color spaces your document is using. Make sure they are appropriate for your final output. That way you won’t get any unexpected color changes at the end of your workflow.
You can also watch the video : “Assign the Transparency Blend Space” by David Blatner and “Understanding Transparency Blend Space” by Mike Rankin (both on LinkedIn Learning) to learn how this feature works.
Hope it helps.

Moves with arrow keys do not apply to objects if cursor is hovering over a link
- Place an image or a PDF in an InDesign file
- Create a text frame/shape/any object
- Select the object you just created with direct select tool (keep it selected)
- Move your mouse to hover over the link so that the center circle link highlight shows. Do not select the linked image, just hover over it.
- Press and hold an arrow key to try and move object.
In CC2024 19.3: If I hover over a link with my mouse, the selected object moves as expected with the arrow keys.
In CC2025 20.2: If I hover over a link with my mouse, the selected object does not move with the arrow keys. Only when I move my cursor off the link will the selected object move (or jump to catch up to my previous use of the arrow keys)
This is a very annoying bug as when I'm trying to adjust objects, I'm not consciously picking where I "park" my mouse in my layout as I adjust objects. This slows down work considerably and might unintentionally create errors.
