1. Getting missing font warning when trying to delete a page - won't delete page!

   I am trying to DELETE a page and get a missing font warning - when I agree to update fonts and agree to "do you want to continue updating numbering?" it cycles back to the same warning, and won't delete the page. Over and over again. The font is Avenir, which some people are apparently having problems with, but I just want to delete a page before exporting to pdf.!! help!! I've tried opening and closing InDesign, fixing the file separately and in Book mode, nothing works....have a deadline NOW.

2. Facing-page layouts always have one un-editable page

   If you set up facing master pages with a text frame on each, you can only set the text frame as "primary" on one of the pages. That means every other page you create from the master will be un-editable. This defeats much of the purpose of a master page, and provides no benefit.

   The only semi-workaround is to connect the two frames, but this is not always acceptable. Sometimes it is necessary to keep the stories separate.

3. text wrap violates indented text next to it

   [InDesign 16.2.1 x63/Windows 10 Enterprise ]
   When text with bullets sits next to a (separate) text frame that has a wrap applied, the text after the bullet doesn't align correctly.
   I tried to upload a file (both by dragging or clicking) and neither option allows me to attach the file. "The following file type [filename.indd] is not supported."
   An earlier bug report for the same problem had a response indicating that the issue has been fixed. It has not been fixed.
   Fortunately, you can move the tab marker on the affected lines to override the bug, but that's really not a solution.

4. find/change missing from menu (PC)

   I am using Adobe inDesign CC 2018 on a PC and since the most recent update (March 2018), I have lost the Find/Change option from the Edit menu. I have searched all over in case it was moved somewhere else, and also tried different workspaces, to no avail. Old document, new, it doesn't make a difference. Where did this go? I use it all the time. :( The keyboard shortcuts related to Find/Change don't work either. (Spellcheck isn't working correctly either--I posted a separate bug report about that. Are these related issues?)

5. indd 2022 - black font seperation incorrect in pdf export with some settings

   after the update to indd 2022 (which some idiot client editor did in the middle of a magazine before saving and thus up-versioning half the files) I have problems with pdf export. Since acrobat/distiller seems not to have been updated at the same time, I assume the problem is with indd.

   When exporting for print, indd exports black print as rich black - regardless of the indd settings - when the export to pdf settings /output / convert to destination (profile) is set.
   If I export with / convert to destination (preserve numbers) then black is exported correctly. This is obviously bunk.
   thw workaround (half a day to find this) is to export with convert to destination (preserve numbers). Caveat all images needed to be converted manually before export, as a specific output profile was necessary.

   needless to say everything worked as expected before the 'update'.

   Seperation is determined with Acrobat CC preflight ink separations.

   I can reproduce the error with a new document, with text cmyk 0 0 0 100 /adobe preset output all blacks accurately /, exported to pdf converted to ISO coated.
   With "preserve numbers" the separations in Acrobat are correct, without preserve numbers rich black is exported.

6. Pages of my 300-page file disappear

   Hello,

   I recently took over the creation of my company's general catalog (300 pages), which I had previously entrusted to another graphic designer, who transferred the file to me. Since I've taken over the design of the catalog, I've run into a lot of different problems:

   Sometimes, entire pages disappear. Sometimes, text and images are preserved and visible when I'm in “W”, but the background of the blank page is no longer visible. As a result, when I'm no longer in “W”, the page disappears completely.

   Also, sometimes images disappear, for no reason at all, or strange shapes appear next to my document.

   I've tried :
   - Copy and paste the disappearing pages into a new Indesign, that works.
   - I've gone looking for pages from our old catalog that I've put in the file that bugs, and these same pages end up having the same problem. (elements disappear...)
   - I've saved the file in an IDML and it works, only when I export it as a PDF, the initial problem persists.
   - I'm in the process of separating each chapter of our scale into separate Indesigns, let's see if it works

   Do you have any idea why these pages are disappearing?

   Indesign Versions : V19.5

7. Indesign 16.0 crashes when copying text with anchored object

   ID crashes every time I try to copy text that includes an anchored object. As soon as I hit CMD+C, it crashes. I can copy the anchor object separately, but trying to grab it inline with text does not work. I've tried it with multiple different areas of text/objects. This has happened over the last two days, repeatedly, after multiple re-starts and prefs updates. ID 16.0 on MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7.
   EDIT: It seems to be an issue with one specific object. I can't seem to even copy that one by itself without crashing. I'll keep playing around to see what I can see.

8. Custom menus created by script stay after relaunching InDesign

   There's a bug in InDesign 2022 where custom menus created by a script stay after relaunching InDesign.

   How to reproduce:

   -Run this AppleScript script which will create a menu titled Custom Menu:

   tell application "Adobe InDesign 2022"
   tell menu "$ID/Main" to make submenu with properties {title:"Custom Menu"}
   end tell

   -Relaunch InDesign

   The menu Custom Menu will still be there. While it should NOT be there unless explicitely created by a script again.

   The only way to remove it is to run a separate script that specifically removes the menu.

   It's a big problem for third-party software: for example, where users remove a startup script that created the menu - but the menu doesn't go away.

   There's a bug in InDesign 2022 where custom menus created by a script stay after relaunching InDesign.

9. Stop stealing focus

   Please find a way to make InDesign stop stealing focus every time it does something. It does it 3 separate times on launch, every PDF export, and every time a file finished opening. Some files are 100MB+ and can take time to load, so sitting around waiting for it is not something people with work to do can afford to do all the time, and getting focus stolen in the middle of an email is not a good way to maintain workflow. It's unnecessary behavior, please fix it. This bug is present on 6 of 6 machines we use, spanning Windows 10 and 11 and 2 versions of InDesign (one machine is for development purposes).

10. Alt + numeric keystrokes does not work

    ASCII codes not working, that is keeping the LEFT ALT pressed, then typing ASCII codes on the nymeric typepad, finally releasing the LEFT ALT. For example Alt+0167 will give you the paragraph symbol.

    Unfortunately, in the newest versions of In-Design, when the LEFT ALT is kept pressed, the program does not accept as input the whole string when Alt is released, but is considering each keystroke as a separate entry, even though Alt is still pressed, something that worked in Windows for 30 years.

    So, since I had some shortcuts (eg. Alt+6 for a specific character style), when wanting to get the paragraph symbol (Alt+0167) it simply does not work. I had to change the shortcuts using numbers from the keypad. And believe me, it took me a lot of time to find out who the culprit was.

    So, please, restore the program to how it was, how ALL Windows programs work.

11. Rendering bug on second monitor

    Just updated to Illustrator 16.2.1 and discovered a bug I didn't have last week. This is reproducible even over a restart. What I'm doing: opening two documents and moving one to a second monitor to compare the layouts. MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Core i9 Radeon Pro 560X 4GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536MB. When I move a window to the second monitor (the Intel card), the display first is very large (one page, as opposed to spread view). Then as soon as I scroll, the content rendering gets corrupted. It might be totally upside down; or it might smear during scroll. Scrolling top to bottom smudges; scrolling bottom to top resets. It doesn't make a difference if the window is the main work window or a separate one. Happens even with a new document and placeholder text.

13. [ CC-2019 and 2020 ] The Convert-Endnotes-To-Footnotes Disaster SCOPE: DOCUMENT

    Hi together,
    I'm using the menu dialog, not the context menu, for converting endnotes to footnotes. Scope: Document

    The result is not as expected.

    There are 7 endnotes in my document. Only 5 were detected by the conversion and only 3 of that 5 were actually converted. In one of the not detected endnotes the text has changed after the conversion. Some separator characters were added.

    I am showing all this in more detail at the Adobe InDesign Forum and at InDesign Prerelease as well. Together with a link to my test documents.

14. Interactive elements do not export to interactive PDF

    2015.3 Release
    11.3.0.34 Build
    operating on Mac OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11

    Steps to reproduce issues:

    Create a new document with a double-page spread in Indesign.
    Import four images into document and arrange on spread.

    Import a shape into Indesign that will be assigned as a pop up box that will appear above Image 1 when rolled over, and place shape next to Image 1.
    Place some text (e.g. "Image credit') on top of shape and group text with shape.
    Open Buttons and Forms dialogue box:
    - Convert group to a button.
    - Set 'Name' as: Pop up 1.
    - Check box to turn 'Hidden until triggered' on.

    Select Image 1 which will be the trigger image for Pop up 1.
    Open Buttons and Forms dialogue box:
    - Convert Image 1 to a button.
    - Set 'Name' as: Image 1
    - Select 'Event: On Roll Over'.
    - Add a new action: 'Show/Hide Buttons and Forms'.
    - Set 'Visibility': select Pop-up 1 from list and set visibility as 'show'. Set visibility for 'Image 1' itself to 'ignore'.
    - Appearance: [Normal] is selected.

    • Select "Event: On Roll Off'.
    • Add a new action: 'Show/Hide Buttons and Forms'.
    • Set 'Visibility': select Pop-up 1 from list and set visibility as 'hide'. Set visibility for 'Image 1' itself to 'ignore'.
    • Appearance: [Normal] is selected.

    Repeat above steps for Images 2, 3 and 4.
    Export as interactive PDF.

    Actual result: 3 out of four of the images will trigger a pop up box when rolled over in the Interactive PDF as exported from Indesign. The fourth image does not trigger its assigned pop up box. The settings are exactly the same for all four images and pop up boxes. The shapes for the pop-up boxes are each imported separately, not copied and pasted. Sometimes none display, sometimes all, sometimes half. I cannot depend on this feature to work correctly.

    Expected Result: Each of the four images will trigger a hidden separate pop up box for its corresponding image when rolled over and the pop-up box will revert to being hidden when the image is rolled off.

15. Opening (book) document of same name but different path overwrites existing open file

    Finalizing a book with 15 chapters, each about 15 - 30 pages (total 505 pages in book). Have several different versions, in separate folders; all with same file names and book names. Recently discovered that some files in the "FINAL" folder had been overwritten with earlier versions.

    Is is sporadic and I have not been able to fully duplicatie. Looks like if A/chapter1 is open and then B/chapter1 is opened, A/chapter1 is overwritten with the content from B/chapter1. Something also occurs that causes A/chapter1 to get flagged as "possibly damaged" when next opened.

    I cannot tell if this occurs only when the book file is open, or if it happens every time (I don't do it often enough to track).

    Book containing the overwritten files will do successful pre-flight, but consistently CRASHES indesign completely when trying to do package for print. (Crash reports submitted)

    InDesign 17.2 x64, Windows 10 Home (all updates thru May 1)

    Finalizing a book with 15 chapters, each about 15 - 30 pages (total 505 pages in book). Have several different versions, in separate folders; all with same file names and book names. Recently discovered that some files in the "FINAL" folder had been overwritten with earlier versions.

    Is is sporadic and I have not been able to fully duplicatie. Looks like if A/chapter1 is open and then B/chapter1 is opened, A/chapter1 is overwritten with the content from B/chapter1. Something also occurs that causes A/chapter1 to get flagged as "possibly damaged" when next opened.

16. Text Box Cutting off Copy with Auto Height On

    I am using version 15.0.1 but this also happens in previous versions. We use multiple paragraph styles to format our text. We have noticed in some cases, not all when we copy the text frame the text box cuts off the last line when copied. Also when you click in a text box and begin to edit the last line disappears. We use many layers and many versions so we copy the text very often, this is causing problems with missing text.

    To get our text formatted we use paragraph styles, we hit enter to go to the next style, this has always worked really well. Recently however, our style changed and they want the text to flow, not be on separate lines. We go back and delete the return to flow the text. I have also tried this same effect with nested paragraph styles, even with nested styles we get the same text box issue with the last line being cut off.

17. Multi-Lingual Data Handling

    This is a suggestion for a new feature for people using InDesign for multilingual purposes.

    In India, we may need to use 3 languages ​​at the same time, for example, in addition to English, we may need to use the national language Hindi and the regional language Malayalam, Tamil or some other language. In other countries, sometimes even more.

    When we try to make changes to a paragraph or chapter using different fonts in different languages, we often have to select and change even one letter to change the font in each language. This greatly reduces the joy of using character, paragraph styles, etc. and reduces efficiency and output.

    Now that the languages ​​of the world are rapidly moving to Unicode, it would be nice if we could address each language separately and make changes to the character style and paragraph style based on the Unicode font spectrum suitable for each language.

18. Lag due to "corrupt links"

    Issue: Performance
    The file I am working on is part of a network located book which included 15 separate indesign documents and links to many images. Working on the file last week everything was fine, however this week when I type even a single character there is a tremendous lag (30 seconds to 2 minutes). This has affected every file in the book that I have opened this week so far.
    The adobe tech had me create a new file and "move" all the pages to that file. This resolved the lag however it also broke the relationship to the pdf comments and now they cannot be imported. The solution also will require me to import missing formats (table of contents) and manually make all edits but is still faster than working with the original file.
    Unsure why the links "became corrupt" especially when they appear fine.

    The advanced technician identified something she called "corrupted links" which she mentioned "happens sometimes" . I propose an export to new document feature since all I had to do was move the pages to a new document to fix it. Adobe should be able to figure out why the links are not ok in one document but work fine when move to a new one. The old file is the one with the issues.

19. map Word lists to InDesign lists and paragraph styles

    As the InDesign help documentation notes (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/map-export-manage-styles.html), "Text styles with bullet or number lists may not be copied or exported to a different application with the bullets or numbers intact." The suggested workflow is extremely time-consuming for a long document where every paragraph is assigned to a hierarchical outline structure in Word, since each paragraph has to be manually assigned to the correct paragraph style and the Word outline numbering that was converted to text needs to be manually deleted. In addition, when placing the document, it creates a separate new "imported list" style from each Word list, resulting in hundreds of unused list styles that need to be individually deleted in another tedious process (why isn't there any way to delete all unused Lists? or at least allow me to select multiple for deletion in the Define Lists dialog.)

    A much faster workflow would be the following: in the place Word doc import options, add a section for mapping numbered/lettered lists in Word to InDesign lists and paragraph styles. Allow me to map each Word list hierarchy level to a corresponding InDesign list Level, assigned to a single InDesign list (this is a many-to-one reassignment). Also allow me to map each Word list hierarchy level to a corresponding InDesign paragraph style (this is a one-to-many reassignment, since Word allows multiple list levels in a single list Style).

20. provide tool to manage external cross-references

    I am responsible for maintaining and updating a long manual with many cross-references. Most of these cross-references are internal to the book collection, but a significant minority reference specific sections in other books that make up the manual or specific sections in other reference documents external to my organization. The ability to use the cross-reference tools to manage internal cross-references is a godsend. Manually tracking external cross-references, however, is extremely tedious and mistake-prone. Obviously it would not be possible to provide hyperlinks or automatic updating for external cross-references. However, I would still like a way to keep track of them in InDesign.

    I would love for InDesign to provide the following workflow for managing external cross-references:
    1. Provide a way to mark text strings as external cross-references. This could either be within the existing Insert Cross-Reference tool or a separate new tool. Ideally there would be an option to add metadata, such as the title and edition of the external document being referenced.
    2. Provide a way to export an external cross-reference report as .CSV or other table format. This table would list each text string marked as an external cross reference, along with the page number where it appears in the InDesign document and any other metadata defined for that record.
    3. Provide an option to toggle on and off highlighting of text marked as external cross references in InDesign.
