1. Paragraph Return is changed into Paragraph Separator (U+2029)

   Version: Indesign CC 2018 and Incopy CC 2018

   The bug as described on https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2344905 still exists in the latest version.

   During the exporting INDD into IDML, the error below occurs.
   Certain Paragraph Return (\r) is changed into 'PARAGRAPH SEPARATOR'(U+2029) and the first sentence’s paragraph style is changed into the paragraph style of the second sentence which makes two sentences into one.
   Every time this bug occurs, we have to open the INDD file and change “U+2029” into another character such as “space” and export it again.
   Finally we found out that this error occurs when 8000th character is “Paragraph Return (\r)”.
   When 8000th character is “\r”, it is changed into “U+2029” automatically during exporting it to IDML. (it seems that it occurs every 8000th character: 8000th, 16000th …)

   This also occurs when working in Incopy CC 2018 and is a real pain when creating books.

   The expected result is a end of paragraph that's not being transformed in a character.

   The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update 14.0.2 of InDesign 2019.
   If you are unable to see the update notification yet, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right of Creative Cloud desktop application and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.
   Once the update button is shown against InDesign, click on the button to update to Id 14.0.2.

2. Image color settings get lost when duplicating image or when data merging

   If a placed image has an icc-profile different from the documents' profile, that profile assigment will get lost when the image is being duplicated. The same thing is going to happen if the document is being data merged for variable data printing. The image will have a wrong profile assignment in the additional records when creating the merged document. Only the first record will be properly printed, the duplicates won't. Test files attached.

   By default color profiles are not maintained while copy-pasting and this behavior exists since CS6.
   To enable the behavior of maintaining a color profile while performing copy-paste action, we need to apply the required settings at the application/document level under the color settings dialog from the edit menu.
   To do so, open color settings and set color management policies for CMYK to preserve embedded profiles.

3. Based-on Master Pages don't inherit Primary Text Frame

   When we create new documents with facing pages and Primary Text Frames on, new master pages are then created based on that original master page.

   I would expect them to inherit the same threading and Primary Text Frame designation as the original, but they don't. Only the text frame on the right hand master page is designated as part of the primary text flow, and the frames are no longer threaded. Designers have to check every based-on master, re-designate the primary text flow, and re-thread the frames.

   The steps to reproduce are:
   1. Create a new document with Facing Pages and Primary Text Frames enabled. The A-Master spread has primary text frames on each page, threaded together.

   1. Create a new master that is based on the A-Master. The new master spread only inherits the Primary Text Frame on the right hand page. The page on the left gets a basic text frame, and the frames are not threaded across the spread.

   When we create new documents with facing pages and Primary Text Frames on, new master pages are then created based on that original master page.

   I would expect them to inherit the same threading and Primary Text Frame designation as the original, but they don't. 5. Redefine Paragraph Style

   »Redefine InDesign Style« does not work for »Ruby Point Size« and »Kenten Size« after scaling.

   This results in paragraph style overrides.

6. Help with Swatches

   InDesign CC 2018
   Trying to create a new swatch with "none" selected, but when I roll over "new swatch" button I get this symbol 🚫. On another forum, the correct answer was to select a user defined swatch; however, I am new to InDesign and working on my first project, so I don't have any user defined swatches.

   Please help. TIA

7. Absatzlinie im Text sichtbar, im Absatzformat nicht

   Beim Anlegen des Dokuments habe ich Absatzformate erstellt. Das Absatzformat für Überschriften wurde mit einer grünen Absatzlinie eingerichtet.

   Nach Speichern und erneuten Öffnen des Dokuments haben die Überschriften immer noch die grüne Absatzlinie. Will ich das Absatzformat aber bearbeiten, um die Absatzlinie zu verändern, sieht es im Pannel so aus als wäre gar keine Absatzlinie gesetzt.

   Wenn ich die Absatzlinie nun erneut einrichte, haben die Überschriften im Text zwei Absatzlinien. Die grüne alte und die 'neue'.

8. ePub

   I create very simple ePubs in Indesign CC 2018. When I export them as ePub version 3 they print perfectly from Adobe Digital Editions on a Mac but print as blank pages or spool to postscript indefinitely from Adobe Digital Editions, on a PC, in Windows. When exported in the older version ePub 2.01 they work and print fine on both Mac and Windows. So my question is: why is ePub version 3 an option from Indesign when it isn't fully supported in Adobe Digital Editions on the Windows platform most popular with the user base? Is there a solution/workaround other than reverting to version 2.01?

9. Character, paragraph menus too long and getting longer on every open

   The Character and Paragraph menus, anchored to the right side of my InCopy, pop out with extra empty space to the right of the menu options. And the extra space has grown each time I've opened InCopy on a fresh open. So when I just opened it today, the character menu is beyond the left edge of InCopy and beyond the left side of my laptop screen even. Paragraph styles menu, in the same grouping of menus, is fine, because it has a corner I can grab to resize it. And they also are still too wide when I un-anchor them and let them float. Screenshots attached. Have not yet tried to uninstall and reinstall. Was hoping it was a known bug with easy fix.

11. Modal disappearing, causing deadlock

    Sometimes the Options-Window I have to frequently use to change the baseline-grid (sic!) disappears miraculously thus disabling any input (thankfully I hit save regularly).

12. Indesign unable to open few Indesign files

    InDesign is not able to open Indesign files. Says its may not support file format.
    We have reinstalled Adobe Indesign and it doesn't help.
    InDesign files can be viewed as pdf and opened in Adobe illustrator but can't open the original files.
    How do we work around this.

14. Place PDF causes InDesign to fail requiring force quit.

    InDesign CC 13.1, OSX 10.13.5 on iMac Retina 5k 27-inch Late 2014.

    All updates are latest available. Attempting to place a PDF file (single page) into an InDesign document with "Show Import Options" selected (only) results in a mostly-empty "Place PDF" dialog box. Mousing over the box causes missing parts to appear one-by-one, except the "Place" button. Clicking "cancel" closes the dialog box but then many/most InDesign functions no longer work, including menu items. InDesign won't quit, either from the File/Quit menu item or command-Q. Only way to restore the application is to force quit. This bug is 100% repeatable. I tried deleting preferences files (user/library/preferences/com.adobe.InDesign.plist and Adobe InDesign folder) as suggested elsewhere in Support, to no avail. Also tried reboot, to no avail.

    To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

    We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

    We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

15. InDesign 2018 13.1 crashing when saving back to Studio Server

    We've just updated our studio with new macs, running High Sierra Version 10.13.4 and the most recent InDesign Version 13.1.

    When we open a .indb document and edit one of the individual .indd files within it and attempt to save back to our Studio NAS drive/Server on our ethernet network the program crashes, corrupts the entire file and makes no effort to restore the file.

    We are also running our old Macs, on Yosemite 10.10.5 with Indesign 2017 and have not experienced this issue at all for the 7 years we have used these machines.

    We’ve looked on various forums but Adobe and Apple seem to be pointing the finger at each other for a solution!

    Any ideas?

    JPEG files cannot be opened directly in InDesign. They can only be placed.
    Create a new document and from the File menu, select the Place option. Select a JPEG file and click Open.

17. swatches don't merge when importing paragraph styles

    When importing paragraph styles from the CC Library, the swatch colors for the styles get added to already existing swatches creating duplicates rather than merging. By the time all paragraph styles are added, there are 10+ swatches of the exact same color....

    The PANTONE 540 CP swatch, when added in InDesign, is a CMYK ‘Process’ Color swatch – it comes from the PANTONE Color Bridge Coated library. This swatch was used in a Paragraph Style and this style was added to the CC Libraries.

    You also created another swatch (a custom swatch) which has the same name – PANTONE 540 CP but it is a CMYK ‘Spot’ Color swatch. This was present in the document when the Paragraph Style (created above) was added from CC Libraries to the Paragraph Styles panel.

    When the Paragraph Style was added from CC Libraries to the Paragraph Styles panel, it found that a swatch with the name “PANTONE 540 CP” already exists in the document. Since swatches with the same name but different definitions cannot exist together in a document, it added the incoming swatch with a different name – “PANTONE 540 CP 2” (to avoid name conflict).

18. InDesign CC 2017.1 12.1.0.56 build links panel redraw issue

    InDesign CC 2017.1 12.1.0.56 build links panel redraw issue. My links palette will not display correctly, even after closing and reopening. Sometimes I can't really use it at all. The divider between the links list and links info moves up and down, but it's hard to read and I can't always select an image or mulitple images. Restarting the app, restarting my computer, seems to make no difference.

19. 'Move Pages' causes the position of content to shift to the right on right-side pages, master same for both files

    'Move Pages' causes the position of content to shift to the right on right-side pages, even though the master pages are the same for both files.

    I am trying to take several page sets and combine them in one file, but I have to manually fix them after moving the pages over. Very concerning as I'm not sure if anything else is breaking or getting lost in the move.

20. Duplicate Page Sizes

    If I go to add a new page, for some reason all my page sizes are duplicated.

    The secondary one don't do anything and can't be clicked on, the first one works correctly as it should.

    InDesign 13.1 MacOS 10.13.5

    Done all the usual restarts, check for updates etc.

    Any ideas?

    To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received an email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

    We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding: Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

    We recommend you upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2023(v18.5.0.057) as it is more robust and contains a lot of bug fixes.
