1. Data Merge - display # of records per row based on CSV values

   Data Merge - When displaying records on a page, show records per row of data based on that row's column quantity value. For example, I have 100 records across 100 rows of data, and 1 record needs to be printed twice, another 3 times, another just once. Instead of the current workaround of having to create multiple rows for each record based on their desired quantity, I'd want one row per record and have one column called X (qty) to tell ID how many times to display that record.

2. Make table border setting override cell styles

   Currently, if I set a table border via Table Styles, then set a cell style with no borders around the cells, the cell style overrides the table style and the border around the table is removed. The only way around this is to create separate cell styles for the header, footer, left, and right columns and assign those to the table style-- that's a lot of junk styles needed to accomplish one piece of formatting.

   My suggestion is to let us choose whether or not the table border overrides cell styles. That way, setting the table border becomes a one click operation rather than a tedious style creation and assignment process.

3. Spellchecking and hyphenation anno 2019

   The current spell checker is helpful, but also limited. The error detection rate is too low. Hyphenation error also occurs too often. (Both esp. in german language.) Artificial intelligence that maps the complete official dictionaries and spelling rules of each language should be added to the agenda and implemented. User dictionaries should only record WORDSAMENTS that contain words that are not in the official dictionary. Word forms and compound words should be derived from the rules.

4. Allow object style to set the size of an object

   One of my ongoing projects is design and layout of a scientific journal with 2 column pages. Columns are 264pt wide, and every issue has hundreds of images that have to be 264 pts wide. They all have the same object style applied. If it could specify their width and cause them to be resized as soon as I apply the style, it would save me a ton of time and repetition.

5. set variable horizontal alignement in tables

   Hi,

   there's a feature that surprisingly doesn't exist in indesign.

   1. It is impossible to set the horizontal alignement of the first column of table like in word.. The problem is that I have to set it only in paragraph style (right align of text) and force the paragraphs in the first column to be left aligned AND each time I change the paragraph style (what can happens a lot with some clients), the paragraph in the first column is set back to right align.

   2. We should be able to set the alignement of the first column directly in table style which overrides the paragraph style alignment exactly like word does.

6. Stroke styles

   Allow us to create and name custom Stroke Styles. These would be in addition to Object Styles.

   Stroke Styles could be used to specify a custom underline, strikethrough, or paragraph rule. Stroke Styles could also be applied to paths and called by Object Styles.

7. Vertical Justification in InDesign CC

   We'd like to include smart Vertical Justification (VJ) feature in InDesign without disturbing the leading spaces. VJ feature to be enhanced with many customized rules such as adjust the style above spaces, avoiding space adjustments between the particular styles, creating lines to adjust the base alignments at the end of each page and the facing pages.

8. Add a feature that allows you to predefine paragraph style spacing based on which style comes before or after it

   I have set up some paragraph styles in my InDesign document that have space-before and space-after set on them. Some of the styles are for headers. When the headers precede a regular paragraph, I want the space to be there, but when they precede another header, I want there to be less space. In web development, I can write rules in CSS that say things like this:

   p { margin-top:10px; }
   h2 + p { margin-top:5px }

   I am able to make the margin-top narrower on a <p> tag that is immediately preceded by an <h2> tag, but otherwise, it's wider.

   I’m looking for a mechanism to do something similar in InDesign so that if my heading level 2 paragraph style is before another heading paragraph style, it has less space-after than when it is before a regular paragraph. It would be really great if Adobe could add a feature that allows you to define a paragraph style spacing based on which style comes before or after it.

9. Fix (shorten!) the display of keyboard shortcuts in paragraph, character, and object style panels

   In text style panels, there is a left column that shows keyboard shortcuts assigned to each style. See attached screenshot.

   This column is waaaay too wide. Keyboard shortcuts are written out as "Shift+Cmd+Num 0" when they should instead be written as "⇧⌘Num0"—using the STANDARD system notation for modifier keys.

10. Cover building tool

    It would be great if InDesign had a tool for easily building covers. Something as simple as allowing variable column widths so that you could input the width of C1, C4,spine, and the width of the joins on either side!

11. The hope of developing a new vertical effect of CJk text

    Thank for your attention and helping. On behalf of my region, I would like to make a request boldly to your company about the new effect of vertical typesetting.

    The existing versions of indesign equipped with CJK typesetter and applicable to East Asia have only one text arrangement direction for vertical text arrangement - the first column inherited is on the right, from right to left from ancient China.

    CJK in this article is a combination of Chinese, Japanese and Korean. There is one thing in common: all are square characters.

    With the development of the times, in the birthplace of vertical arrangement, it is no longer emphasized to inherit this text arrangement. Now in China, this arrangement is no longer taught.

    However, because of the square attribute of each Chinese character, even if it is no longer taught in the classroom, the text will still be vertically typeset when typesetting. But, now in China, reverse vertical typesetting of words from left to right also exists, such as the newspapers in China.

    I would like to ask why there is such a direct arrangement in China. Plug ins with this function can be developed and attached to the installation program in the form of exe, so that users can install them in the plug-in folder, then sell it on the online shopping platform similar to Amazon in China.

    I hope it can be developed, after all, the market demand is not small.

    It is confusing that when Rule Below is active, still the inactive Rule Above is show in the Paragraph Style tab.

14. How to put Change bar in Indesign

    Hi everyone!

    When working on technical documents we change/update something on page (a row, figure, text or table) and we want to put a sign (vertical line) next to that row, column or figure affected from this change. By doing this we want to inform users that there is an update along that vertical line and attract their attention.

    Another important thing is that vertical line shall move together with affected row, column etch.

    This function works god in Framemaker but unfortunately now I have to do it in Indesign and could'nt achive.

    If someone help me about this feature I will be appreciated.

    Whenever we use Ink Manager to convert spot colors to process colors (1) or define one spot color as alias for another (2), this should be visualized in the Swatches panel so whoever edits the INDD can immediately spot (ha!) that changes have been made and fix them if needed (instead of shedding tears over inexplicable output results).

    (1) Replace the spot icon by a “ink-managed” process icon that can be distinguished from the “native” process icon.

    (2) Replace the spot icon by the alias icon from the Ink Manager dialog.
    Make both (or why not all icons in the spot/process column?) clickable to be able to jump directly to the Ink Manager dialog.

16. Include Paragraph Styles in Table Styles

    There needs to be a way of assigning paragraph styles to header rows and individual columns, not just cell styles/table styles. For example, I have a paragraph style for each of three columns in the table's header row, One for the Item Category, Regular Price heading, and Effective (sale) Price Heading. Then I have four paragraph styles for the rest of the table based on the column, one for item number, one for item description, then of course the style for regular price adn effective (sale) price. I should be able to include these paragraph styles in the table style, so that if I need to change the background (light to dark or vice versa, or removing the sale pricing column) I can just change the table style, and it adjusts all the paragraph styles within it.

17. Edit Description in Links Panel

    It would be great to have a the ability to edit the "Description" column directly in the links panel instead of having to click on every object and then "Object Export Options." Would save sooooo much time to be able to edit the alt text right from the links panel.

18. Datamerge option to use specific templates for the same input source

    Let's say you have to make shipping marks for example 100 pieces where 30 pieces have template 1 as layout or master page. and 40 layouts 2 and 30 layout 3. it would be nice that i would be able to create 1 scv file and in that will i will have 1 column that tels InDesign to use for each row a specific template file or a specific master page. if it will where you can use the template file then in does templates the data merge links will have to be the same for it to work. For example, i have a column as "name" in InDesign all the templates that are selected and have data merge links as "<name>" will all be data merged.

19. Span Columns: Let us enter "1"

    Currently, when we go to Span Columns and type "1" we get an error.

    It would be so great to be able to type "1" and have InDesign realize that we are wanting to, in effect, switch the paragraph layout from Span Columns to Single Columns.

20. Footnotes

    If you have a text with two or more columns the footnotes appear in the same column. That's great but it would be much nicer if you could have the footnotes under the colums ans as wide as both/all columns together. At the moment the efford to get this is very high and I have to use additional text boxes and I loose the connection between number in the text and footnote.
