  3. Character style based running header text variable does not pick up character styles applied by nested line styles

As with Grep styles the text variable character style is not found when it is created using Nested Line Styles. This means I have to use normal nested styles and add end nested style markers into the text. Not ideal or as fully automatic as I would like.

  5. InDesign 2018 can't differentiate between two similiar font names

Our company works with two fonts called "CalloutTS" and "CalloutTS2". They are similiar, but not the same. For years everything worked fine. But since the CC 2018 update, InDesign can't differentiate between these two fonts anymore. You can now only select "CalloutTS". But depending on which computer your working on it randomly shows either the glyphs of "CalloutTS" or of "CalloutTS2". InDesign reads the font name of "CalloutTS2" now also as "CalloutTS" and can't decide which font to show. It seems like a simple digit isn't enough anymore to differentiate between two font names. This is a huge…

  7. variable barcodes not centered in frame and not always appearing in print files

Recently upgraded to InDesign CC 14.0.1 x64, HP SmartStream Designer 14.0.6, and Tech It Barcode Studio 15.11.1.23277.

Existing variable barcodes in InDesign documents are now not centered left to right in their frame.

Sometimes they are not appearing in the JLT print files created using SSD. They do appear in PDF print files created in SSD.

  8. Oswald Book Font Installed on Windows but doesn't work in InDesign

I am using InDesign CC 14.0 for Windows 7 and I am having trouble with a font called Oswald. I have 3 fonts from the family Oswald installed on my computer (book, light, and bold). However, Oswald Book does not work in InDesign. It works in Illustrator and Microsoft Word so it appears to be an InDesign issue rather than a font installation issue.

  9. Crashes when font file is moved *every single time*

This will crash InDesign (and Illustrator and Photoshop) every single time without fail, all cc 2020 apps I've tested, specifically:

    InDesign 15.0.2, Illustrator 24.1, Photoshop 21.1.2

    I'm using OSX 10.15.3 Catalina

    Try this:

–add a font to ~user/Library/Fonts/MyFontFolderName/ to install. Works with any font, but for example try Adobe's own wonderfully designed Source Serif Pro
–make a new document in InDesign, set some text in that font, eg: Source Serif Pro-Regular, save document (or don't save, same result)
–move the font file, eg: SourceSerifPro-Regular.otf to a sub folder, eg: ~user/Library/Fonts/MyFontFolderName/AnotherFolder/…

  10. GREP styles do not work in text variables

The title should say it all. When setting a text variable in a paragraph style that includes GREP styles, the GREP styles are not applied to the text variable. This is a severe limitation of the variable functionality, and is similar to many other reported bugs concerning variables, the upshot of which is that variables need to behave more like ordinary text. This is one more instance in which this is true.

  12. Burmese font rendering error

    InDesign CC 15
WorldScript doesn't compose Burmese Unicode characters correctly, shifting the location of some characters and not positioning some accents correctly, do you have a plan to fix this as it has been like it for a long time? Other languages like Lao and Khmer have been fixed over time, but not Burmese.

We have released InDesign 2025(v20.2.0.036) with many stability fixes. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version (if you’re not already using it) as it is more robust.

If you are still facing this issue even after updating it, please send the following information to santalwa@adobe.com :

    • Reproducible Steps – What were you doing when InDesign froze?
    • Video recording of the issue
    • Is(Are) the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If yes, could you provide us with the document(s)/asset(s)? Please package the entire document (To package the document, choose File → Package…)

  14. Not able to set default font when it comes from Adobe Fonts library

Purista font family is installed but when I try tu pick it from menu as default font (in type panel or top app menu) it is visible in brackets with name changed - as a missing font.

When I create a document it is still missing (screenshot _31). Then I have to reactivate adobe fonts by turning off Adobe fonts for a while (screen _32) and after it it works like it should (screen _33).

  15. [ID-4261011] In Find/Change, search for font style (eg "Book") incorrectly selects "Regular" style text, even if "Book" style isn't present

In InDesign 2021 (the latest version both on Mac and Windows), I add a text frame and fill it with placeholder text which is set, by default, to Minion Pro - Regular.
Then I go to the find-change dialog box and set 'find format > basic character format > font style' to Book.
And guess what happens when I hit the ‘find next’ button? It selects all the ‘regular text. (The document has no text with the 'book' font style applied!)
Selecting another style — e.g. Bold, Italic, etc. — results, as expected, in the 'cannot find match' alert.
    Looks…

  16. Table of contents and variables weird behaviour

When some of my titles have Variables in the TOC (variables that I have created) they appear in the TOC incorrectly. My Variable here is a dash date i.e. 2019-2020. At first I used "–" rather than "-" but both ended up with the same result. I've uploaded all screenshots to demonstrate what I'm talking about: The variable with the longer dash, the variable in the heading and the TOC that relates to it. Notice that some TOC's are affected, but not others, so I'm at a loss.

  17. Find Font reports fonts activated with Suitcase Fusion are in system folder - knock on effect in XMPie

    1. CC2019 Win10_64 (Suitcase Fusion 9)

2-4. Activate fonts with suitcase Fusion and use in job. Find Font will show the correct path to Fusion's font vault. After continuing to use InDesign and Fusion for a while, usually within 30 minutes of normal use, Find Font reports the same font is now in system folder.

This causes an issue with the XMPie uCreate plugin. When the incorrect path is shown, XLIM Preflight detects an issue with the font and won't allow the job to be exported. NB: I have recreated this bug with XMPie uninstalled.

  18. InDesign 18.1 x64 (Windows) - Problem with font Latino URW Regular Italic

InDesign 18.1 x64 (Windows) - Downloaded Adobe Latino URW fonts from Adobe fonts site - The Regular Italic shows up as Italic in Windows fonts and Word, the others are OK. When placing Word document into InDesign, get missing font because InDesign does not recognize Latino URW Italic, it wants Latino URW Regular Italic. It is a font naming issue. After removing font, restarting computer, and reloading, problem persists.

  19. Adobe Fonts automatically substituting versions of fonts that are document-stalled

When I open an InDesign file that has been packaged with all the fonts (non-Adobe Fonts) included in the Document fonts folder, if I happen to have the same version of the font activated in Adobe Fonts, InDesign automatically, and without warning, substitutes the Adobe Fonts version. This is a major problem. The heirarchy should be document-installed fonts FIRST, then InDesign can look in Adobe Fonts and suggest replacing it. This should not be done without warning in the background. It means that the person who was working in a package workflow without…

  20. Calibri missing font keeps InDesign from generating PDF

    1. 21.2 x 64
    2. This morning, Windows installed a major update (including firmware). My system is now running on Windows 11 Pro, Version 25H2, OS build 26200.7840 and has Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.291.0. When I tried to open InDesign, it wouldn't open. I followed the instructions from this post (https://community.adobe.com/questions-671/indesign-v21-not-starting-after-update-win-11-897997) and uninstalled all of my Microsoft Visual C Redistributable Packages and reinstalled them from the link posted by Anubhav M 3 months ago.

That (seemingly) solved the problem, but when I opened an existing InDesign file, I got an error message telling me that all of my font
