5. "GREP Load Find with selected text" is incomplete on macOS

   version: any OS: any macOS
   Edit menu > Keyboard Shortcuts > Text and Tables > “GREP Load Find with selected text” also “GREP Load Find and Find Next instance”

   If the selected text contains meta characters that are escaped with a backslash, such as "End of Paragraph" (\r) or tab characters (\t), they are all captured as ¥r and ¥t.
   I’m forced to retype the ¥ into a \ before starting the search.
   On Windows, it works without retyping.

   “Forced line break" (\n) is not a problem as a function, but the display is corrupted, which makes me uneasy.

   It is a pity because it is a very useful function.

6. InDesign performance issue: Slow on documents present on server

   it's not an idea, but a problem. Indesign creates problems on the network and is very slow with server documents, as never before. The media told me to work locally, but I ask Adobe to solve the problem. Windows 10 64 bit - Intel processor 32 GB of ram.

7. Renaming hyperlinks shared destinations: broken links in exported PDF

   Hello,

   I encounter a serious issue with InDesign 2020 (15.0.3) when renaming hyperlinks shared destinations (linking pages in the same document):

   Those links seem still working in InDesign when clicking a page icon in the Hyperlinks panel (it leads to the proper destination page)
   They don't work anymore after the PDF export in Acrobat (the links are clickable but they lead nowhere)
   I had to re-create all the shared destination links in the document, which is a huge waste of time at least and makes the feature very unreliable.

   Test A

   A 3 pages InDesign file (and the related exported PDF).
   3 shared destinations leading to each page, named Page 1, Page 2, Page 3.
   3 links on each page, set using the shared destinations.
   All works fine in this file once exported as interactive PDF.

   Test B

   Same file as Test A except i renamed these shared destinations:
   Page 1 > Page 1-Renamed
   Page 2 > Page 2-Renamed
   The links using these shared destinations don't work anymore once exported as interactive PDF.

8. InDesign and Acrobat accessibility conflict

   Adobe InDesign version: 2019 CC

   We are currently trying to establish the best workflow in creating fully accessible PDF's for screen readers and I believe we have come across a bug in the communication between InDesign and Acrobat.

   Quick summary:

   H1 elements on multiple lines read as separate elements unless assigned manually in Acrobat
   The Structure and Article order does not transfer to the PDF

   To explain the issue clearly I have numbered the images in the process order.

   1. Image: 1 InDesign Accessibility setup.png
   2. I have setup ‘paragraph styles’ and used the correct ‘Export Tagging’ tags for each style.
   3. I have added the content I want to be read in Articles and put them in the correct order
   4. I have created tags and assigned all the content correctly
   5. I have reordered the ‘Structure’ to be in the reading order too

   Please note - the order of the ‘Structure’ and or ‘Articles’ does not transfer to Acrobat (after selecting the correct export settings.

      ‘Create tagged PDF’
      ‘Use structure for Tab Order’

      You can see the reading order does not match either the ‘Article’ or ‘Structure’ order from InDesign which I have set up.

   You can also see that the elements are ‘Spans’ not H1, H2 and P tags.

      You can see the screen readers reading order by the numbers shown on this image which again does not match the order I set up in InDesign.

      The tag order doesn’t match the structure setup in InDesign
      Also there is another bug when reading H1 tags on multiple lines.

   You can see how the H1 tag is broken by 4 lines. This has been tested and you have to swipe 4 times to listen to the full H1 header.

   1. 6 Initial PDF review - tag h1 splitting - fix by order assigning.png In Acrobat I have then gone into the reading order and manually set the main header to a H1 tag. This then groups the text in the tag order window and fixes the issue of it being multilines. You can then also see the tag has changed from Span to H1.

   The same thing needs to be done for the other multi layered heading tags.

   I hope this is clear enough to understand.

   It is the 4th major update it it still does not work at all!!!!!

10. layer order

    InDesign is not honoring the layer stack. When I Select All and Create Outlines, some layers are moved to the top where they should not be. I have tried various configurations of the "... Remember Layers" options in the Layers panel, and this has no effect. This appears to be a bug.

13. swatches

    When trying to change color values on a existing color in the swatches options panel the number and text apear all scrambled. If I change any value of the color and it save InDesign collapse every time.

    Two issues:
    • text scrambled
    • app closes when changing color values

    Any help we be greatly appreciated.

14. Palette management is a nightmare. What happened?

    M1 Macbook Pro connected to dual displays. Adobe user for 20+ years.

    There seems to be no hope for palettes and window positions on Mac OS. I run multiple resolutions at different times based on the displays that are in use. Adobe apps are simply unable to maintain any palette and window locations. The application window moves to half the screen. The documents become dislodged from overall application frame. Palettes "jump" when I move them.

    As a user I understand that I have a responsibility to manage my settings, but after repeatedly resetting workspaces and trying to re-arrange palettes. I simply don't have time or patience to troubleshoot the logic behind the current window management. The user experience is terrible.

    Please provide a way to maintain window and palette positions across multiple screens and resolution changes.

    Laptop display only (+ variations for previously used resolutions)
    Laptop display with external display (1) (+ variations for previously used resolutions)
    Laptop display with external display (2) (+ variations for previously used resolutions)

15. InDesign crashes when adding Cross-Reference

    Adobe InDesign CC 14.0 (Macintosh)

    I click Window > Type & Tables > Cross-References. With my cursor in a text box, I click "Create new cross-reference". Sometimes it crashes here; sometimes it opens the dialog.

    When it opens the dialog, there is nothing in the Cross-Reference Format dropdown. I can click the pencil and open the Cross-Reference Format dialog and create a new format, but when I click OK the whole program crashes and closes out.

    I am not experiencing freezing where I need to force-close -- it closes out completely, immediately.

    I created a blank doc and am able to use cross-references there with no issue, but that doc doesn't have all of the fonts and elements and other work from my main file -- which leads me to believe it's something about my file which is contributing to the issue.

    I tried saving as IDML which did not correct anything.

    To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received an email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

    We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding: Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

    We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

17. WorldReady settings go missing in [Basic Paragraph] style

    Adobe InDesign (ME) 2021, 2020, CC 2019, ..., CS6
    macOS and Windows

    InDesign's WorldReady settings (Paragraph Direction, Kashidas, etc.) are being stripped from a document's [No Paragraph Style] style when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in (like Em Software's InCatalog). This appears to happen with any 3rd-party plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's lower than the WorldReady plug-in's prefix. While the following steps use the Middle Eastern app (English Arabic), where there's a UI to see the style's empty/blank WorldReady entries, we've confirmed that this problem affects all app variants (including English (Roman)).

    To reproduce:
    1. Install ME version of InDesign 2021 (English Arabic).
    2. Install Em Software's InCatalog plug-in (http://emsoftware.com/products/emcatalog/ ) or any plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix ID below that of WorldReady's 0x50f00. (The SDK's BasicTextAdornment sample will work if its kBscTAPrefixNumber is changed to something like 0x43a00.)
    3. Restart InDesign while holding down Shift-Control-Option/Alt (to ensure the session workspace's [Basic Paragraph] style is rebuilt to include the new plug-in's text attribute).
    4. Create a new document and add a text frame containing a few paragraphs using the [Basic Paragraph] style. This text should compose as right-to-left (the ME version's default direction, as specified by WorldReady's kParagraphDirAttrBoss). Create a numbered list, since that's a great way to see the problem.
    5. Save the document.
    6. Quit InDesign.
    7. Remove InCatalog (or whatever plug-in was installed in step 2).
    8. Restart InDesign.
    9. Open the document that was saved in step 5.

    Alternatively:
    1. Install ME version of InDesign 2021 (English Arabic).
    2. Restart InDesign while holding down Shift-Control-Option/Alt (to ensure a clean session workspace)
    3. Open the attached SavedWithInCat(2021ME).indd file. (Well, UserVoice won't let me upload it. Ask & I can send directly.)

    Notice that the text frame in the opened document incorrectly flows left-to-right and the numbered list's numbers wrongly show on the left rather than the right. Edit the [Basic Paragraph] style and note that the WorldReady settings in the Middle East Character Formats and Indents and Spacing panels are blank/empty. (See attached before-after screenshots.) One would expect a style to survive intact even when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in, but instead some of its settings may be at risk of being lost.

    We've used WorldReady as the victim here, but this problem affects any plug-in, Adobe or 3rd party, that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's higher than the missing plug-in's prefix (such as Em Software's InData).

    Details: We've isolated what looks like a long-standing problem (bug?) with the SDK's AttributeBossList::CopyInto(), where it stops the copy when it encounters an attribute whose plug-in is missing. Instead, the copy should continue after the missing plug-in's entry order to produce a complete list of non-missing attributes. Copies produced by AttributeBossList's Duplicate(), ApplyAttributes(), and its copy-constructor are all affected.

    InDesign's WorldReady settings (Paragraph Direction, Kashidas, etc.) are being stripped from a document's [No Paragraph Style] style when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in (like Em Software's InCatalog). 18. InDesign 18.2 crashes/fails during PDF export for documents containing placed indd containing Adobe Fonts

    Problem/Actual Result
    I have Indesign files that have .indd files linked as images. Each time I export an Indesign file that has an .indd links, I receive the attached messages saying that the file cannot be exported.

    Steps to reproduce the issue:
    - I have exported each page to find out which assets are causing Indesign not to export, it is always an .indd asset.
    - I have tried removing any transparency from each of the .indd linkages
    - I have removed any transparency or object style on any bounding box an .indd file sits in.
    - I have tried removing any unused or empty layers in all of the .indd linkages
    - I have tried exporting Indesign files as Press Quality, High Quality Print and Small File size but no PDF can be produced.
    - I have tried saving the Indesign file and .indd linkages as IDML or INDT files, then resaving them as Indesign files, but no PDF is produced.
    
    - I have trashed all my preferences multiple times.
    - I have restarted my computer multiple times.
    - I have tested the above with multiple Indesign files and still receive the attached error messages

    Expected result:
    To successfully produce a PDF by using the File > Export function. The only way I can make a PDF currently is going to the Print dialog window and creating a PDF file but that is not desirable and very slow.

    Version of Indesign: 18.2 on a PC

19. distribute

    document.distribute() doesn't allow aligning of pages.

    doc.distribute (doc.pages.everyItem(), DistributeOptions.HORIZONTAL_SPACE, true, 0)

    RESULT:
    Error: Invalid value of parameter "alignDistributeItems" of method "distribute". Expected array of PageItems, but received (Page,Page,Page).

    Expected: I can align pages in the UI via Align panel so I expect I can do the same in scripting.

20. Images or graphics disappear (Mac M1; Sonoma 14.5) (ID V19.4)

    Hi, It
    This Problem happen >> InDesign performance issue: Text disappears while editing <<
    I'm unable to copy images or certain objects.
    Images or graphics disappear, and I can't click or select them, even though they're still visible in the layer panel.
    I've tried using the "Alternate" function, but the image still disappeared.
