character panel and control panel don't match
I've noticed sometimes when changing the font in one panel, the other does not reflect the change—they should always be in sync. The change does not occur on the document either—until both panels are manually made to match. So it appears 'Character' settings in the Control Panel are behaving independent of the floating Character Panel. These are mac installed fonts. Not Typekit.

Dropdown Menu "Type" Text Not Consistent
Currently using v17.3 and I believe the "Find/Replace Font..." (under "Type" menu bar) should be with initial caps and not what I'm currently seeing. It should be the same style as "Find/Change", right?
Checked with my fellow InDesign users and seems like it's only me.
Anybody else has this issue?Thanks!

For text frames with inset spacing and shaped corners, the text frame can auto-size to be much wider than the actual text
InDesign: 15.0.1 x64
Creative Cloud: 5.1.0.407This behavior varies depending on the combination of:
- typeface
- font size
- corner size
- inset spacing
- actual text contents in text framePut a few words in a text frame, and keep the text frame selected. I can trigger this easily with Minion Pro, Roboto, and Inconsolata.
-
In Object -> Text Frame Options:
- In the General section, set Inset Spacing to some nonzero value.
- In the Auto-Size section, set Auto-Sizing to Height and Width, and enable No Line Breaks.
Select the text frame with the Selection Tool. Set the corners…

Lose tabs when converting to curves in document since new update
I have noticed since I updated to the newest 20.0 version yesterday that every job that I have used set up tabs in and then convert to curves to go to print production (avoids any font reflow issues when processing film) the tabs do not hold. This has never been an issue before this update. Please fix this bug.

Caption Metadata in Text Variables
InDesign version 17.3
A Metadata Caption set in Text Variables can be on a layer separate from an image. In my workflow, this is good!Unfortunately, InDesign treats images on layers that are turned off as if they are on, and hence a text box containing a Metadata Caption is presented with multiple images to read from and delivers the message <Multiple intersecting links>.
I discovered this by having a square image on one layer and a 4:3 image on another layer, a layer turned off. When the text box containing the caption touched the top or bottom of…

Can't click through InDesign to desktop or other app + InDesign list panels tilt
When I click on panel boxes to adjust values like font size, transparency, color tone etc, InDesign list panels (swatches, fonts etc) tilt and list elements slip away from mouse selection like they were magnetic.
Can't exit from InDesign window (mouse click to desktop or other apps doesn't work). Functionality can be restored only by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Canc and then Esc.InDesign version: 16.4.2 (and earlier versions)

Data Merge to PDF ignoring text variables in tag line

Data Merge to PDF ignoring text variables in tag line
I posted the previous in Communities over 5 years ago on Sep 13, 2019 and it still hasn't been addressed.
Is there any reason that a file merged directly to a PDF (rather than to an Indesign file, then saved as a PDF) would refuse to parse text variables set in InDesign?
Document has text variables selected so that final will have a tag line with date and page count.
When I merge my data to an InDesign file, then save…

Package doesn't include some fonts
When a supplied InDesign package with ALL necessary Document Fonts is re-packaged for distribution NOT ALL of those Fonts previously included will be re-packaged.
So, pretty much after the new package is created you have to compare the Document Fonts folders between the 2 to see which fonts are missing, or look through the new packaged document to see which ones are indeed missing.

Some Cyrillic RTF files exported from Indesign are broken if a non-breakable space was used
Indesign 20.3.1 x64 release.
Attached is the Indesign file. Both frames are identical, except for the topmost has one non-breaking space and the bottommost has a regular space instead. The export from the top frame produces the buggy RTF (a screenshot of the glitch location is attached), while the bottom one is ok. If we put any non-breaking space there - it will fail as well.
The bug was reported as font-dependent as well, i.e. the text set in Arial may have the bug while the text set in Minion Pro may not have it.2 votes -
Default underline position misinterprets font’s specification
InDesign interprets the underline position as the center of the line (from which the "thickness" extends outward), whereas the OpenType spec calls for it to be the top of the line (from which the thickness extends downward). This causes inconsistencies with other application’s interpretation of the same font’s metadata.
See here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/typography/opentype/spec/post#headerQuote:
underlinePosition
This is the suggested distance of the top of the underline from the baseline (negative values indicate below baseline).
The PostScript definition of this FontInfo dictionary key (the y coordinate of the center of the stroke) is not used for historical reasons. The value…

Some text in tables is shifted to the right after the PDF export
After the PDF export, some texts in the table cells were shifted to the right in the PDF file. The texts are not correctly positioned one below the other. The values of the deviations from the correct position are up to 0.5 point, but different.
I tested it in InDesign CC 2018, 2020 and 2021.
The problem occurs if "Create Tagged PDF" is not activated in the PDF export options and metric kerning is selected. I've tried different fonts.
The PDF file with the suffix "High Quality Print" was created with the job options "High Quality Print" ("Create Tagged…10 votes -

Futura Std fonts
When I use Futura Std in InDesign, some letters [‘a’ & ‘o’ in attached screen shot shift to a tiny, superscripted letter. Other fonts look normal in this same text, and Futura Std does not do this in any other application. Even in InDesign, the problem occurs in some situations but not others.

InDesign hangs for minutes when I/O for Document fonts is slow
Using version 18.2.1 and opening a document that has an associated "Document fonts" folder alongside, the app performs a lot of I/O on the main thread. If the fonts are on slower storage, the app will open the document, but the window is completely frozen, since all those I/O calls are performed on the main thread.
Note the attached traces: some calls are even performed twice for the same file. Can the CT calls be moved off the main thread?

Wrong characters exported to PDF.
My InDesign-Document uses 1 font only. After exporting a PDF, some character-combinations are replaced by a special character (see Screenshot). After closing and re-opening the document, the error doesn't appear again and the PDF file is exported normally.

table of contents
I have InDesign Mac 20.1. I have a Book consisting of 3 documents. In the documents there are Figure captions in Minion Pro font. When I have an N-rule (option hyphen) in Caption and I create a table of contents (ToC) the N-rule becomes superscript Stempel Garamond LT Std in the ToC even though the caption style is Minion Pro

Sinhala text render issue
When typing or copying texts in Sinhala unicode font, the output is rendered incorrectly. For instance, "ෙ + ට +ා" must be rendered as "ටො" but in indesign it is rendered as "ටො". It does not create any difference by changing the keystroke pattern. "ෙ + ට +ා", "ට + ෙ + ා", "ෙ + ා + ට" renders the same output. I tried changing renderer to "World-ready paragraph renderer" but nothing changed in rendering.

document fonts bug

Punctuation at the end of Hebrew text is broken if there is a SHIFT+ENTER in the middle
Punctuation character at the end of Hebrew text is "shift" to the right if a SHIFT+ENTER (line break within the same paragraph) was typed somewhere in the paragraph.
A simple example is shown in the attached image.
Also, in the attached Image I am using the "Adobe Hebrew" font with "Hebrew" set as Language (as can be seen in the attached images).
