  1. Issues with MacOS custom keyboards and InDesign

The users have InDesign V16.1 installed on macOS Big Sur (11.4).
They use custom software keyboards (created with Ukelele) to type Native American language characters (Salish via IPA). They use custom fonts that have the required glyphs for the language. OpenType marks are used for composing characters. The fonts are both Unicode and OpenType compliant. Frequently a properly composed character will consist of a primary glyph (such as "K") followed by a combining glottal and a wsuperior. If each key of the custom software keyboard has only a single unicode code point assigned, everything works fine. However, if the custom…

  2. Share for Review has ISSUES

I have been using the Share for Review feature for almost two years now for my employer to review documents that I am creating for them. I use it almost daily and never had any issues until the updates that came a month or two ago.

Since the Share for Review feature was updated I can...

    1. No longer copy text from the comments that are made to paste into my document. This is troublesome because I am generally laying out curriculum that has been written and there is constant text edits being made during our review process, so I was…

  3. No Font Spacing Between Words in InDesign 2019 14.0.x-2 on Mojave 10.14.x-4, Works fine in InDesign 2014 (v10.0.70) on Yosemite (10.10.5)

    Posted it here too: https://forums.adobe.com/message/11049072#11049072

So, we've had this issue on our new MacBook Pro running macOS Mojave v10.14.4 ever since last year in August when we were on High Sierra (what came with the Mac).

Basically, InDesign is unusable with Gujarati Sangam MN on the 2019 version but on 2014 (v10.0.0.70) version on my old Mac (OS X Yosemite, v10.10.5) it works fine.

    What's causing this issue?

    We've tried the following:

    • Contacted Adobe & Apple support: Apple said to contact Adobe, Adobe was unhelpful, they suggested we look up if the font was installed it it is on the…

  4. links don't work on exported PDFs when opened in Microsoft Edge

Hi there, so in my work I regularly have to make PDF's that have links and tables of contents. They also need to be printable.

To do this I build them in InDesign and Export as 'Adobe PDF (Print)'. This results in a file that navigates with the view I want with working links and the right colours etc.

BUT not on Microsoft Edge. Its taken quite a while to realise that that links don't work there. They will work in Firefox, Chrome and Acrobat with no trouble. PDF's made in other programs (I only tested Microsoft Word) work…

  5. InDesign CC 2018 UK dictionary is wrong

The UK dictionary in InDesign CC 2018 is wrong. It is recognizing both American and British spellings of certain words as correct. The biggest issues I've found so far are "iz" versus "is" spellings (e.g. capitalize/capitalise) and words that need an extra "e" (e.g. ageing). I have all text boxes in my document set to UK English, and spellcheck is finding certain misspellings (e.g. "or" versus "our"), but not others.

This is a major problem for those of us who regularly have to "translate" text from American English to UK English. Is there a way to import a…

  6. New version can't preserve character styles

Italic and bold words protected in the old version are not preserved in the new version, screenshots and sample files are available, we tried it on different systems, the problem is the same.

  7. Info Panel - Stroke and Fill info drawn in wrong place - covers up PPI/words info

    Windows 10 - ID 17.1

Info Panel - Stroke and Fill info drawn in wrong place - covers up PPI info and also garbles coords when text selected.

Not dissimilar to this issue from 2019.

  8. Placing Images mac photos cant access album structure

    Hi All,

when placing images into indesign (commmand d) then selecting images in the finder like window (technically speaking this might be the ilifemdiabrowser plugin from apple) , i cannot access the photos library album strucutre anymore. When going to movies (filme) i get the menu where i can choose the subfolders, with images (bilder) it does not work. Further, when trying to choose media (top menu on placing window) it cant access it. I suppose it is some kind of issue with adobe not getting access to the os photos system. I tried solving it in the mac settings,…

  10. Spell Check changing to Catalan (Spanish) half-way through

Spell check is changing from English to Catalan on a particular page of my document every time I check it. I have tried changing it back and will select English and then it will still say Catalan and try to change all of my words to Spanish.

  11. Wrong position of autocorrect

Sometimes when a pdf markup is for a space between two words, the autocorrect creates the space in the wrong place, one character ahead of where it should be, so for example, if the markup was to the words removespace, the result would be removes pace.

  13. Incorrect diacritic position for some letters when using bullets

When using the latest version of Noto Sans Arabic (2.012), if bullets/numbering is enabled in InDesign for a line containing a word with a medial position jeem ج, the dot of the jeem gets out of place. If bullets/numbering are not used, then all is well. I submitted this as a bug on GitHub for the Noto Sans team, but they say it is an issue with InDesign and the layout engine. You can also see other issues on the GitHub issue at https://github.com/notofonts/arabic/issues/232.

    To reproduce:

    1. Create a text frame using the "ME Type Tool" in InDesign (for a…

  14. Issue Report: Kerning Not Applied with Ligatures Enabled in InDesign 2024/2025 (Regression from 2023

    Description:
A kerning issue occurs in Adobe InDesign 2024 and 2025 when using ligature-supported fonts like Microsoft Uighur Font. Manual kerning adjustments fail to apply when ligatures are enabled. This problem does not occur in InDesign 2023, where disabling ligatures allows kerning to function as expected.

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Font Setup: Use Microsoft Uighur Font in InDesign 2024/2025. (I use my personal font)
    2. Text Input: Type a word containing the ligature اللہ (e.g., any two Arabic text).
    3. Enable Ligatures: Ensure ligatures are turned on (Character panel > Ligatures: ON).
    4. Apply Manual Kerning: Attempt to adjust kerning…

  15. Style names truncated unnecessarily

The UI for the styles palette truncates the names of the styles to an unusable length if a keyboard shortcut is assigned (even when no truncating is needed).

In the attached image, we see that there's a lot of space to the right.

The keyboard shortcuts could also be shortened using the relevant symbols instead of words. eg

    "⌥⇧⊞1"

    instead of

    "Opt+Shift+Num 1"

  16. Dictionary Hyphenation in Uppercase ignored (German)

Custom hyphenation settings are ignored for uppercase words in user dictionary (at least in german).

    Example:
dictionary entry: "kro~~~nach" (select field "case-sensitive" not set)

    Expected behaviour:

    Lorem ipsum Kro-
    nach dolor sit amet kro-
    nach

    Actual behaviour:

    Lorem ipsum Kron-
    ach dolor sit amet kro-
    nach

    Workaround:

Enabling "Case-sensitive" and adding lowercase and uppercase version leads to correct hyphenation.

  17. appliedLanguage property of text-related objects returns language from application, not document

When I do configuration for a language in a document, such as setting doubleQuotes, this language can be found in the document object's list of languages and has a different id than the language with the same name in the application object's list.

But when I access text inside the document – regardless what I inspect, paragraph, words, character, textStyleRange – I expect to get the language properties as set in the document, but instead I get those as set in the app.

I believe this to be a software bug.

More information as well as a workaround can…

  18. Bugs with Whitespaces in Justification’s Composer when work with Thai language and other issues

As my report on bug with text wrapping in 2020 version (https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/38998636-bug-with-world-ready-composer-when-use-space-like). Many of issues were fixed, but some still remain.
    .
Before going to the issue in the title of the post, I want to specify some issue that doesn’t fix form my last report. If you see on the attachment img 02, you will see the issue about text encoding (it just only my suspicion) that happen when you just copy and paste text (specifically in Thai) form 2020 version to 2019 or to another text editor. After I had pasted text into TextEdit (you can…

  19. Alternate glyphs change order unpredicatably

If I show some alternate glyphs (whether in the tiny popup - can we resize this? - or in the Glyphs panel), when I select one, the order of the other glyphs changes. This is really annoying - can they PLEASE stay in the same order, so I can easily switch between them. The current (wrong) system goes like this:
    Type a word
    Highlight a character
The miniscule glyphs pop-up pops up
I choose the second (miniscule) glyph in the pop-up
    I don't really like it
I choose the third glyph in the pop-up
    Hold on - isn't that the…

  20. Right-to-Left and Left-to-Right text boxes and style sheets are confusing

    Dear Adobe InDesign Team,

Please simplify how users specify left-to-right Western language text boxes and documents versus right-to-left Middle Eastern language text boxes and documents in the multi language version of InDesign.

There are no fewer that four places where paragraph direction and language specification appear in various places in the InDesign workspace.

Users would benefit from simplification of language-switching tools, because InDesign's interface does not readily expose what language text direction it is using and sometimes switches paragraph direction without users knowing what these international language settings are defaulting to.

My issue had to do with US English text…
