Text rendered bold when using transparencies
When using transparent boxes or png images, InDesign will randomly render some text bold. This occurs both on screen and when printing. The only way to avoid it is by not using transparencies, which is annoying. People have been complaining about this since 2011! Get your sh*t together adobe. Come on.

Replaced text (when using Track Changes) in a table will crash InDesign/InCopy 2024 when switching to text views
To recreate (See attached images):
- Create a simple table in InDesign and add some content to one cell, then activate Track Changes.
- Select the content and replace it with new content, then select to switch to "Story Editor".
What occurs:
1. InDesign will completely freeze up and needs to be forced to quit.
2. This will also happen (in the same set up) if you are using InCopy and switch to either "Story" or "Galley" view.Comments:
It seems that this is triggered by the graphics that highlight the removed/new text. If you are not showing the colors in…42 votesThe fix of the issue is now available in InDesign 2024(v19.2.0.046) and above. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.

[ID-4213629]Indesign performance issue : Slow work of Indesign when editing text with large footnotes
I'd like to report a bug. Please follow the scenario below:
In a single column with lots of text in it, make two columns for a fragment of text
In text within the two-column setup, make a footnote. Add several lines of text to the footnote
Turn on the "Span Footnotes Across Columns" feature so that footnote ends up in the same group with the footnotes at the bottom of the page rather than below the two-column fragment
Expected behaviour: normal editing can be performed after these manipulations
Observed behaviour: any text editing after turning on the "Span Footnotes Across…

Text wraps when replacing a swatch
If I replace a swatch the text wraps at one place. It happens just with one color in the document... I doesn't matter which swatch I use for replacing... I never seen this before. I image how risky that is when you're replacing a swatch in a large project like a catalog and than somewhere in the document text is wraping...

Long Text Variables kern instead of return to new line
Indesign 2020
When using text variables with a bounding box that is too short for the line to fit, the line of dynamic text will squeeze together in order to fit instead of dropping to a new line. It would be nice if the line will drop down to a new line as normal text does in a text box.8 votes -
Exported text missing Endnotes
Exported text missing Endnotes
We work with Footnotes and Endnotes a lot. And when everything is OK, but after going in print, the text is exported so that the autor can edit it for a next release (Law text and commented law so it changes often). I was very happy when InDesign did begin to work with Endnotes but ... it does not export them. Not even in Version 15.0.1. Footnotes are exported, Endnotes are missing. This is a big bug or an even bigger oversight.4 votes -
Text Box Cutting off Copy with Auto Height On
I am using version 15.0.1 but this also happens in previous versions. We use multiple paragraph styles to format our text. We have noticed in some cases, not all when we copy the text frame the text box cuts off the last line when copied. Also when you click in a text box and begin to edit the last line disappears. We use many layers and many versions so we copy the text very often, this is causing problems with missing text.
To get our text formatted we use paragraph styles, we hit enter to go to…

[ID-4255452] Text variables with modification date not working when saved to Cloud.
I created a text variable to update the date when the document is modified. When I opened my document in the beta version of InDesign, the text frame for my text variable was empty. I tried to re-enter the variable, and I tried making a new variable. When I selected a variable that included the current date, it would not appear. I created a Modification Date text variable and a custom text variable based on the Modification date. They appeared correctly. I saved the InDesign doc to the cloud. Once I applied a paragraph style, the text disappeared in both…

Links export to PDF creates "Null Alt Text" attribute in tagged PDF
When an ID 15 file with hyperlinks is exported to Tagged PDF, unless you assign alternative text to the Links in ID, the Link tags will have a "null text" attribute which prevents the content of the Link tag from being read by a screen reader. This is a problem for several reasons. Not everyone chooses to add alternative text to hyperlinks. It's a UA, but not a WCAG 2 requirement. An automated accessibility checker like Acrobat's or even PAC is not going to flag this. Most people do not do a "Jaws check" of the PDF they are…

Dialog Box Disappears
From time to time the Move dialogue box will not show up when called using the hotkey Shift-Command-M. InDesign then thinks a dialogue box is open and will not perform other tasks. You cannot exit the phantom dialogue box with escape. You cannot save your document. You cannot quit InDesign without manually force quitting.
I am on Mac High-Sierra OS 10.13.1 (17B1003) and the latest Creative Cloud version of InDesign. I have had this happen on multiple computers and on multiple versions of InDesign.
I do not have multiple monitors - however, I do use the Spaces function on the…

Text Shifting
Hello, our team has been having an issue of text randomly shifting within the text box. The entire baseline appears to shift down whenever I type in the text box, whenever I do find/ replace text, and when pasting within the text box. The Text frame options remain the same but the text appears to shift. Sometimes only half the text shifting down. This is mainly happening with a text box that is turned sideways in banners we have on the page. This seems to happen across all documents new and old. This is on version 21.0.2

Hard returns only (soft returns converted)16 votesHi,
Thanks for your patience all this while. We investigated on this issue and below are our findings. The problem with this bug is related to ages old standards difference between different operating systems.
On Mac (OS X and later) there is only one way to identify line end i.e by using a single character LF, while on Windows (and DOS before it) uses a pair of CR and LF characters to terminate lines.
Hence when writing them down to any text file these characters are written as such.
Windows, can therefore dedicate LF to understand soft return separately while Mac cannot do any
such thing. Because of this when we read it back from the text file the LF character is interpreted as line break (or new para) on Mac and soft return on Windows. These files require conversion when moved from one OS to another

Based-on Master Pages don't inherit Primary Text Frame
When we create new documents with facing pages and Primary Text Frames on, new master pages are then created based on that original master page.
I would expect them to inherit the same threading and Primary Text Frame designation as the original, but they don't. Only the text frame on the right hand master page is designated as part of the primary text flow, and the frames are no longer threaded. Designers have to check every based-on master, re-designate the primary text flow, and re-thread the frames.
The steps to reproduce are:
1. Create a new document with Facing Pages…7 votesThis issue was fixed in the March 2018 (13.1) release of InDesign. Please update your InDesign version to get the fix.

Disappearing text when I type the character ,,T"
So, I have an InDesign file, which is a brandbook for a partner. Few paragraph styles and some items, nothing secial. I use Prompt (Google font) installed on my system. As soon as I hit (smallcaps) T when writing the text OR becomes unvisible or it breakes to the basic paragraph style AND it wont display the T. IF I copy and paste the text from outside of InDesign then it displays T. And the All Caps T works as well. This bugg is really annoying. Could you look into this issue?

InDesign Effects applied directly to Text do not update when the text is changed
Some effects that are applied directly to the text do not update when the text is changed. If the same effect is assigned to the text frame (object), this error does not occur. Switching to GPU Preview or GPU Acceleration on the Mac or turning off the same option has no effect on the error.
Windows 10 mit InDesign Version 16.2.1 x64, only a time delay is noticeable.
On Mac
Mac OS Catalina Version 10.15.7 mit InDesign 2021, 16.4
Mac OS Catalina Version 10.15.7 mit InDesign 2022, 17.0
the effect remains for the old text until you save the file…5 votes -
The Book panel disappears and can't be re-displayed.
The Book panel is essential while working, because (as far as I know) it's the only way to sync styles across your book's files. But once it disappears (which it does frequently), there is no apparent way to redisplay it. Attempting to re-open the indb file doesn't do anything, even if you've closed all other files.

Overset text
Hi team, I am having issues with overset text. When I drag my text frame outside of the bleed line into the workspace the icon doesn't appear. As soon as I drag it onto my page the icon shows and if I increase the text frame additional text space appears above the word. There is no text wrap on the text frame and is on a completely different layer so arrangement isn't an issue. Can you please help me fix this issue.
