1. Restart footnote/endnote numbering after chosen Paragraph Style

   Please add the possibility to reset the numbering of footnotes/endnotes in the paragraph style.

   This should be a Paragraph Style Option.

   If someone works in just one long tread, it would be much faster to reset footnotes or endnotes numbering automatically after specific paragraph style instead of making sections once and once again (after every reflow) .

2. Add Creative Cloud Libraries to InCopy

   InCopy users would find CC Libraries very useful in many situations. Why aren't they part of the CC Library party?

   They could import selected graphics from a shared CC Lib to the story (as anchored graphics), same as they can Place them now. They could use them to bring in boilerplate text via linked InDesign text. They could use them to add styles to their standalone InCopy docs (eg, the body style for the INDD file the story will be flowed into). I'm sure there are more uses!

3. Provide an option to update a workspace.

   If I make a change in my workspace, I must go here:

   Window menu > Workspace > New Workspace...

   and enter the name of the workspace I'm altering.

   Then I click OK and am presented with a dialog that says,

   "A workspace with that name already exists. Do you want to replace it?"

   An option like the following would be quite helpful.

   Window menu > Workspace > Update Workspace

   Or, if you prefer, make the name of the option Update Current Workspace.

4. pages counter in book panel

   It would be useful to see total number of pages in a book.
   I could be displayed in the very bottom row of book panel, next to synchronize or save book icons (on the left).

5. A feature that lets you copy the actions of a button and past it in another already existing button!

   For example: If you have a button with the actions: Go to next page, and make a sound. i would like to see a feature that lets you copy these actions (Go to next page and make a sound, or any other action) without physically copying the whole button but only the actions within the button and paste it into another already existing button.

   If you have a button with the action: make a sound when clicked, and you want to have all the other buttons to have the exact same action as the button with the sound, you have to go to every single button, set up the action and choosing the sound. But it would be so much easier if it was able to copy this action and past it into all the buttons! It would save a hell of a lot time and it would really improve InDesign!

7. Style group support via xml import

   So far as I know, InDesign does not support style groups via xml import.

   Why is this usefull?
   If styles in a InDesign template organized into groups, we cannot refer with the attribute aid:pstyle and aid:cstyle to these styles and automatically apply these during xml import.

9. Make page dimensions from Page Tool and Page Setup match

   I'll often have to change the size of page using the Page Tool. The problem is that if anyone opens the Document Setup dialogue box, it only shows what the original dimensions of the page are – not the actual dimensions.

   When there are multiple pages in a document with various sizes, the Document Setup dialogue window should notify that that's the case.

11. touch bar support

    I've been using the touch bar of my MacBook Pro for a lot of things, including Photoshop. As I am mainly using Indesign in my everyday work, it would be great to have touch bar support, for instance for applying paragraph styles to texts.

12. Stop exporting div IDs in epubs

    Those gazillion div ids all have to be removed and replaced with nice, neat, simple classes. PLEASE remain professional software for professional designers, and stop trying to cater to people who don't want to learn anything about .epubs and can't tell the difference between good and bad. Trying to help them really mucks things up for the rest of us.

13. One click page border keyline in the print dialog.

    Sometimes when printing something you want to see where the trim edge is with a keyline. Currently you have to manually put a box with keyline on every page to achieve this.

14. InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text (Accessibility)

    InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text

    InDesign has no way of setting actual text. This can only be done in PDF. Actual text is set when acronyms are used. Access technologies such as screen readers cannot properly read acronyms such as USA. They voice them as words, like "Youusah." Actual text has to be set for the document to be read correctly. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Currently, the process for setting actual text in Acrobat is as follows: Find the acronym in the Tags tree. Open the Accessibility tool and choose Reading Order. Drag a marquee over the acronym and tag it as what it is – paragraph/text or a heading level. The Tags tree will collapse. Open the Tags tree again to find the new acronym Tag. Right click on the new acronym Tag and choose “Properties”. Type the acronym with spaces between each letter in the Actual Text field, for example “U S A.” Spaces will cause the acronym to be read correctly. This issue affects EVERY SINGLE InDesign user who is required to make accessible content. Please make setting actual text an option within InDesign so painstaking remediation is not required.

16. Transparency/opacity settings for paragraph shading

    It would be nice to have transparency/opacity settings for paragraph shading. In certain designs, it would be nice if paragraph shading worked a lot like a frame fill that you can control the transparency and blending options for the shading portion. This would be applicable to borders as well. Right now, to get the semblance of semi-transparency, you have to apply it to the whole frame, but you may just want the shading and no other elements to be affected.

17. Placed pdf loses interactivity features and accessibility tags.

    When PDFs are placed into an InDesign layout and then the entire layout is exported to PDF, the placed PDFs are converted to <Figure> tags in the final PDF.

    There are many time when designers must incorporate an existing PDF into their documents, such as:

    -- Multi-page PDF of an existing document.

    -- A pre-made PDF AcroForm

    -- In annual reports, an official letter from a president, commissioner, or other authority.

    -- In financial reports, the required letter from the accounting firm as well as the financial balance sheets.

    In these above cases, the placed PDFs are official documents that can't be rebuilt in InDesign. They are already in the PDF format, accessible, and with other interactive features such as hyperlinks or form fields.

    But at this time, all of that is lost and the PDF becomes a static <Figure> with unreadable and inaccessible text. Alt-text is limited to 200-300 characters, so it can't be used to describe, for example, the pro-forma letter from the accounting firm that did the organization's audit.

    Suggested solution:
    As the designer is placing the PDF into the layout, they need to select whether a) the PDF is a graphic, or b) the PDF is a live document with interactive and accessibility features that must be maintained.

    If a) then it's correct to be tagged as <Figure> in the resulting PDF (this is what we now have).

    If b) then it must retain the live text, <Tags>, hyperlinks, buttons, and form fields and pass this information into the resulting PDF.

    Hi,
    What all things would you like PDF to retain? (alt text, tags and what else?)

    Currently when PDF is imported, its imported as a single graphic.

    Would you want the tags and alt text to be mapped to their correct assets in InDesign? and those tags and alt text be also editable from within InDesign after PDF is imported?

    Or should they be remapped and restored once the document with placed PDF is again exported to PDF from InDesign?

    Would want to know more about the proposed solution / workflow

18. Enable HTML5 to be imported into InDesign and exported as HTML5 / EPUB3

    Currently I'm using in5 to insert HTML5 into InDesign and then export it out as HTML5. I'm also using CircularFlo to insert HTML5 into InDesign and export it out as EPUB3. The funny thing is that the HTML5 that I'm importing to InDesign actually all came from the HTML5 output from Adobe Captivate. It is a little bit ironic that I want to combine Adobe files and make them work together but I've to use external parties plugin to do that. I'm very sure that in the future more and more people will be inserting HTML5 into InDesign either to export as HTML5 or EPUB3. Thus the users will greatly appreciate if we can import HTML5 directly to InDesign and have the option to export the project as HTML5 and/or EPUB3. Thank you very much.

19. Color overlay FX

    Right now Indesign has almost every effect as Photoshop, except Color Overlay.

    Please add the Color Overlay effect to Indesign.

    Aside from the obvious benefits, this feature would make changing the color of bitmap fonts so much easier than having to recolor them in photoshop, and import them as images into indesign.

20. Adobe Fonts Auto Activation/Deactivation

    As a printing company, I have a wide variety of customers using a wide variety of fonts including ones that are part of an Adobe CC subscription. When I open an InDesign file that uses Adobe (online) fonts, give us a preference setting to auto-activate those online Adobe fonts AND to deactivate those fonts when the InDesign file is closed. I can't have a bunch of fonts activated all the time as they COULD interfere with an older version of the font causing type reflow!
