Export to Illustrator with Layer Preservation
We do a lot of packaging design for a large catalog of products and use InDesign for most of that design (due to some specific needs for variants, etc.). We often need to provide the files as .AI format to our manufacturing vendors. It's easy enough to export to PDF, which preserves the spot colors and Acrobat Layers, but when we save from PDF to .AI, the layers vanish. InDesign needs a way to save/export native files in a format that can be opened in Illustrator that preserves all InDesign layers.

It would also be great if InDesign layers could be more easily named. And really great if those layers could be exported intact to Adobe Animate.

Yes please not just an export to PDF an then the need to clear the AI-file from cutting masks and so on! A direct Export to AI would be more unite the apps and represents more the way of working from Print to Web, from Layout to Illustration (and then please match the shortcuts and so on from AI/ID/PS/XD).

hi, it's a great idea, we prefere to use indesign too, even if packaging product community use illustrator at first choice, we definitelly prefere indesign because it's a better tool to manage texts and pictogrammes and because it have "Anchored Object" when you make a multilanguage leaflet with a lot of pictogrammes on it, it's a very much appreciated option from indesign. But when you export for packaging printer they prefer illustrator AI files and it's starting to be a nightmare, because you can loose infos on transfert. I have suggested vectorized multilayer pdf from indesign and the other CC apps but i would love this one too.
