  1. Convert placed ai to outlines

We get a lot of files with placed .ai art/logos with various color modes/values. It would be great if there was an option (similar to converting text to outlines but for vector art) that would make them editable (as if they'd been copy/pasting from ai, no longer linked) right within indd.

If there is a way/script to do this already, I'd appreciate any info/links for it.

    Thanks!

  2. Import PDF comments in InCopy

If we're using a workflow that includes stories in InCopy, it'd be great if our editors/writers can manage the edits/markups to their content through InCopy so they can truly own the content (and prevent the back and forth of review/edits with designers and writers after a document has been reviewed).

  3. Link to a Specific Page in external PDF File saved on the local disc -> choose between relative/absolute link

It would be nice to have an option to open external file (pdf) saved on the local disc/folder on the specific page - the same way as url link ('#page=xx'). And it's also necessary to have an option select between relative/absolute link. If the file is distributed and the parent directory gets changed, it has to be still able to use the relative link (of course in case the original structure has not been changed).

  4. Place Photoshop artboards into InDesign

We need to be able to place Photoshop artboards into InDesign.

This should work similar to placing Illustrator artboards or placing pages from a PDF or another InDesign file.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the info. This is indeed correct that since the various artboards come in as a layers the dimensions are of the entire document which can be problematic. Adding this to our backlog.

  6. Empower Indesign "Books" to export PDF's that display perfect spreads between "chapters."

PDF is the only way to view a complete "Book." But Indesign is designed only to generate single-page PDF's. That is fine for final output for print production, when one needs a single-page document. But it fails during the design process, when one needs to show the clients a whole book (with complex visual/verbal design) as spreads. What happens now is that a left-hand chapter-ending page will appear as a single page in a spread-displaying PDF. And the right-hand chapter-beginning page will appear as a single page. The internal pages of the chapter will display as spreads. The …

  7. Table Summary Option as per Word and other apps

Could you add a tab in the ‘Table Options’ dialog window when selecting a table. This tab called Table Summary would be a field that allows you to add a brief description on what the table is about. The information would then carry over to a PDF when you export it.

An accessibility check on the PDF without a table summary produces a warning. Whilst tables summaries are not compulsory for accessibility, in order to get 100% compliance (green tick), tables summaries need to be added which Microsoft Word and other programs seem to do whereas Adobe Indesign does not.

  8. Page range(s) and pages/spreads options in Share for Review

Export options for Share for Review

Ability to select page range(s), individual pages vs spreads, etc. directly in the export process, not buried in the last PDF export settings.

  9. Playing GIFs in InDesign, improve export to PDF

Currently there is no way to add a GIF image to the indesign file. In my case I would like to place a GIF image into my portfolio with ability to export it into PDF keeping the play function of the image. Neither in InDesign nor PDFs support this feature and the only way is to present it is to export into EPUB which is useless for the sake of the portfolio sharing as if it limits how file could be reviewed. Please, look at the problem and add interactive feature as if it will be helpful for presentations…

  10. share for review accept changes

It would be extremely helpful to allow the Share for Review comments to be implemented with a click of a button, just like we can currently do by importing PDF comments.

Having to retype the changes a reviewer suggests is not only time consuming, but also allows for errors, since it has to be retyped. And if this already works in the PDF comments, it should work on this.

  12. Open and modify a pdf document directly in Adobe Indesign CC 2020

I don't understand why it isn't possible in Adobe Indesign CC 2020 to open pdf document and modify this document directly in the application.

Affinity Publisher proposes this feature by default and it's works perfectly !

On the screen you can see on the left Adobe PRO DC and on the right Affinity Publisher without any plugin. All can be edited : texte, image, ...

This feature will be added in the future ?

It's really dammage that Affinity Publisher proposes this feature, while Adobe Indesign is older.

  13. Show Import Options when Dragging File from Finder

When Placing a file, there is an option to show Import Options. This is helpful for inserting a select range of pages. It would be helpful if this same option was available when dragging a PDF file from my Desktop/Finder. Often times, I will have my finder window open which contains my projects home directory. Simply dragging the PDF into the InDesign document is much quicker than having to go through the process of locating in File->Place route.

  14. Properties Panel - make it customisable

I'd like to be able to add things that I use often to it.

For example, with nothing selected, it has the options for the Document Layout.
I would like to add to that to include

Export PDF - and select my proof settings

So in essence - I could add the options to export to
    Print Ready PDF
    Proof PDF
    Image file format

etc. - just to be able to add those things would make this panel even better.

There are other things I'd like to add to this property panel - but that's the general idea, and everyone…

  15. Would like to be able to share a pdf (for proofing/approval) straight out of InDesign. Exceeding valuable as it skips steps.

In the busy print workflow environment it would be nice to skip steps when providing clients with proofs for review/approval. Creating and sending a pdf proof to clients straight out of InDesign would be just the thing. Currently, as you know, you export the InDesign document as a pdf, open it up in Acrobat and share the file for review. While the Acrobat function is fine (although we've noticed lag time in clients receiving the proof) in the face-pace environment of a printshop, where many of these proofs are processed, it would be a time saver.

  16. Share several separate files as one (using Book feature possibly) in Share for Review

The Share for Review is a fantastic feature.
We publish magazines that are designed in several different files for each section. It would be great if you could combine files and share for review (possibly using the Book feature). Currently the Book features allows you to create a single PDF from several separate files into one.

This option would be great when Sharing for Review instead of creating a PDF.

  17. Add the possibility to add alternative Text to Tables.

    like in MS Word.
Reason: we need to publish our print-products as an disability accessable PDF. Sometimes, it is helpful to add an alternative text to the table

  18. other default setting for layer options when placing PDFs

When placing a PDF, default setting for actualization is "keep user-defined visability ...".
Once switched to "keep PDFs visability ...", in the next document it is again on default "keep user-defined visability ..."
I would prefer to have "keep PDFs visability ..." as a stable default for placing.

    Example:
    1. I added a new Layer to a PDF, but set it invisable by mistake.
    2. On actualization, I accepted "new layers visible as in PDF".
    3. Later, I remarked my mistake an repaired the PDF.
    4. On actualization again, nothing got better ...

    I…

  19. Text box on different place in PDF vs. InDesign doc

A colored text box moved 1,5mm from the position in InDesign-file to the position in the exported PDF. I had 8 versions of this file and in one it appeared on a different place in the PDF. When printing with only black plate changed, the the text was 1.5 mm lower in black. Is there a solution? Is this a bug? 80.000 printed pcs. to the trash and 4 new plates to solve the problem. Any help?
    tnx, Dirk

  20. Export All Alternate Layouts as PDFs With Layout Name

I use the alternate layout tool a lot to group different sized content in the same InDesign file.

While I know I can select the layout as a range during export, it would be a huge timesaver to be able to export all of my layouts as separate PDFs and then just add the alternate layout name to the end of the PDF file.

Ideally this could be a check box in the export settings "export each alternate layout as a separate file"

InDesign versions CC2018 and above have an option called ‘Create Separate PDF Files’ in the Export PDF dialog. Using this option, you should be able to export all your layouts as separate PDFs.
Which version of InDesign are you using?
