1. Uncheck Shared Hyperlink Destination by default

   In the panel 'New Hyperlink' the box 'Shared Hyperlink Destination' is by default checked. I always (must) uncheck it. Two questions: can I reset these default-settings somewhere. (I think not - but I'll like to do that). There is no possibility to put this check on/off under a shortcut. That should be nice for automation-purpose.

2. Easier way to restart endnote numbering

   Thanks for the new endnotes feature. Arrived just in time, as i had to do a book with two extensive sets of notes and was dreading the thought of having to do one set manually.

   But having to break the chapters into stories in order to restart numbering on the notes was rather a nuisance. I don't like having to break a book text into stories (creates too many opportunities for things to go wrong). How about creating a function that allows a number restart after a paragraph style? I would think that most users would want to restart each chapter, and most would have a chapter title style that would provide a convenient trigger for restarting the endnotes.

3. Custom Stroke Styles

   inDesign has a number of Easter Eggs in the stroke styles: Woof, Rainbow, Rasta, Happy, and Lights. So obviously there is a way to create custom stroke styles, but it is locked and inaccessible. Please let us import our own vector objects into the stroke styles panel.

4. Make PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keyboard keys maintain consistent position of page in the viewport

   If I click the little Previous/Next Page buttons at bottom left of screen, I can cycle through pages, and the position of the page within the window stays the same throughout the process. This is great and very helpful when flipping through a book quickly.

   But if hit PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN on the keyboard, it seems to SCROLL the document position up/down by some numerical value, with no regard to the position of the page being displayed.

   It would be logical and helpful if PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN had exactly the same effect as the PREVIOUS/NEXT page buttons. Then we could use those keyboard keys to quickly cycle through a document without the page position jumping all around.

5. Continued table subheaders (and headers)

   1. Our main need is a way to specify "subheader" rows which will repeat after the main header at the top of each page. In the screenshot, "Bank of America" with gray shading and "Canadian region" are both examples of subheader categories which appeared previously in the table. We need them to continue to appear as a subheader row, underneath the main header, with an option to add text (in this example, "cont."). Note we need the ability to style the additional text.

   A GREP style which could be used on the subheader row would be even better, as sometimes the table does not include all of the subheader text in the continued row. An example: The original subheader might read "Bank of America NA ($54,890)" and the client wants the subheader continued row to only show up as "Bank of American NA cont." So a GREP look behind feature would be great.

   1. A secondary need for which we have a workaround…The main table header (in green in the screenshot) also needs "cont." added on subsequent ages. Our present workaround is to go ahead and include "cont." in the first table header, but under Table Options select Header, Repeat Header: Once Per Page and check "Skip First". On the first page of the table, we then insert a header row not defined as a header row. Not obvious, but it works.

   The continued subhead feature would be extremely valuable to us because we have tables which run dozens of pages long, as is the case with many users who work with long tables. Now, the subheader rows must be manually inserted at the top of each row. Although we have written scripts to do this, the problem is when the table is edited by rows being added or deleted. The manual subheader rows must then all be deleted and then re-added.

6. Accessibility—PDF Export Preset

   In PRINT PDF export options, we have the option of saving settings as JobOptions which can be selected in the future from a drop-down menu.

   Need the same capability in INTERACTIVE PDF export options, too.

   And we also need preset for accessibility from both PRINT and INTERACTIVE PDF exports, one that ships and installs with InDesign and PDF Maker (MS Office) to automatically set the options for tagging and tab order.

8. Improvement Indesign Accessibility Features

   I use Indesign to create accessible PDFs but there are a few features that should be there.

   TABLES
   Automatic Header Column and Header Row tagging. At the moment Header Column is recognized but not Header Row. If this was implemented you could go a step further and add ID tags and scope automatically. This would be a huge time saver since this all has to be done manually in Acrobat. It would also be nice to have an option to specify the Title of the table as a caption tag.

   FOOTNOTES
   At the moment you have to add the proper tags manually and move them to the proper place.

   LINKS
   Please add an Alt tag area when creating a link. Even word has that.

   ARTIFACTS
   For some reason even when you tell an object to be an Artifact in InDesign, it still comes out as an untagged element. This is a huge time sucker especially when it comes to large publications. Having to go through the Content pane in Acrobat marking unmarked elements is a pain! All lines, rules, and shading should automatically be marked as an artifact by Indesign.

   ARTICLES
   When you export a file to PDF and tell the Articles panel to Use the Reading Order in Tagged PDF, you still have to select all pages in Acrobat and tell it to Use Document Structure.

   TABLE OF CONTENTS
   Telling your TOC to use proper TOC tags. I don't understand why this is not built into InDesign already.

11. More organization for CC Library files

    I love the idea of using CC Libraries, but we have multiple versions of our logo built for different scenarios. We have different size logos built for a range of book spines, different colors depending on background, and logotype versions for specific product lines. Right now, I'm creating shorthand in the name of each element to differentiate them, but having metadata or notes for each item would help a lot. I could see the note popping up when you hover over an item. Another solution would be customizable sections within each Library. That way I could organize the logos within the proper size section.

    Having the ability to organize Library files in a way that makes sense to an each individual organization would be a time saver.

12. Multi Export

    An export option that would allow the user to select multiple options for exporting their document, in one simple 'Multi-Export' option.

    An idea of how this would look could be in the 'Export' dialog box, the user would be able to check a box that would enable 'Multi Export'. This would mean you can choose multiple methods to export in one easy opportunity in the Dialog Box. An example of this would be;

    I, the designer or user of InDesign need to send a client a Medium Resolution copy of the file before we hit print, but I also want to export the Print Ready document straight away, along with a Web Quality version to go up on their website.
    This would enable a designer or whoever to export (for example) a Proof of a document to send to the client, PLUS a Print Ready Document, PLUS a Web Ready document as an example, all in one go so to speak.

13. Turn off 'missing fonts' alert

    A setting (with no docs open) that says "don't alert me to missing fonts" when I open a doc. It would be just like the "don't ask me about missing links" setting - which we like in the studio. Because sometimes we need to check lots of docs for something (could be a house style thing, a find-replace thing, a colour check thing etc) but don't want to be 'font-alerted' at this stage. The warning seems too pedantic when we're nowhere near final production stages...

14. GPU support on non Retina Macs

    Please enable support for GPU utilisation on non Retina enabled screens. My graphics card is more than able to lever this ability, it's just my Mac 27" is not Retina.

15. Would like to be able to apply formatting to text variables

    You should be able to somehow apply formatting to text variables. (See screenshot: TextVariable.png). The running header on the right hand page is based on the "chapter title" on the left hand page, but the italics can't be applied. It would be nice if you could apply a GREP style, or even a nested style, to the paragraph style that is applied to running header.

17. InDesign Gradient Tool

    Please make the gradient tool in InDesign function the same as in Illustrator, it's fiddly, cumbersome and gives you nowhere near as much control. There's no reason for it not to function the way it does.

18. Paragraph Borders and Shading - Keep in Frame

    I use a P Style for a Tip paragraph in my Quick Reference Cards (QRC). The Tip is typically one or two sentences, and has a light shading (light grey) with a top and bottom blue border. I use a similar style for Warnings, except I change the borders to red. Occasionally, the Tip/Warning falls at the top or bottom of a column, and the Border, and sometimes the Shading, lands outside the text frame.

    Can we have a "Keep in Frame" for Borders and Shading, similar to the one for P Rules? David Blatner had a great workaround when I reached out to him on Twitter; add a P Rule with 0pt, and the Color of None, add appropriate Offset, and turn on Keep in Frame. It works, but it's many steps, where a check box would be much quicker.

    When the logical reading order is set in Articles, it would save time if Layers could replicate the same order, whether it’s automated or if there was a way to select “Use Articles reading order for Layers.”

    Simplified complex table structure.

    FOOTNOTES
    Set the hyperlink and correct tags when footnotes are referenced in tables.

    More layout flexibility would also be helpful.

    Adding Alt text to hyperlinks

    PATHS
    Paths not included in Articles should remain artifacts. If that’s not an option, maybe a “Find and Artifact” option would be helpful.

    LANGUAGES
    We have a legal statement translated in multiple languages. Currently, only 9 of the languages we need partially export to PDF. It would save a lot of time to have the language codes added in the Content properties automatically included in the Tags properties. We’re currently typing them in both places manually.

20. Add an option to rasterize chosen graphic objects on export (especially vectors)

    Often we have to work with vectors, and often they take up a lot of space, which leads to the growth of the final PDF document and the slow rendering of the document in browsers. The trick with reducing transparency, when we make the selected frames 99% opaque and turn on the flattener, does not always give a good quality result and can cause stitching.
    I suggest adding the option "rasterize" to the settings of the style of the graphic frame, so during the export the vector object is replaced with a raster copy. The quality settings for rasterization can be placed here, or taken on-the-fly from the export settings.
