1. Change font without changing style

   Assume that I have selected some text which contains instances of bold, italic, or other "styles" (not INDD "styles," but variations of a typeface within a specific font family).

   In previous versions of InDesign, I used to be able to change the typeface of the selected text, and maintain all instances of bold, italic, etc. In newer versions of InDesign, this is only possible when I navigate to the new font family by scrolling through the menu; when I search for a font family, I am presented with only the specific members of the family, not the family itself. This means that no matter which family member (roman, italic, etc) I choose, I will be losing for formatting already applied to the text. Please restore the ability to change the font without specifying a "style"/family member when choosing a typeface by typing its name into the font menu box. Thank you.

2. Bug with world ready composer when use space like thin en or em space in Thai language. And bug in text wrapping in 2020 version.

   After updated to 2020 version that added support to Asian languages (include Thai), it look like Indesign force user (in my case Thai) to set language in Advanced Character Formats to Thai. After set the language Indesign also require me to use World-Ready Composer to set all tone marks in place.
   .
   Before the latest version, I always avoid to use World-Ready Composer because it combines a word to single object, not just locks tone mark and float vowel to character in the right position. By which it impossible to navigate with text tool to the position of text that I want to revise, even if I use right/left key to navigate. It mostly skips word by word, not only character by character. And when I delete a word or a character, some time it not only deletes backward but forward too. (I think because of when I delete character form a word Indesign instantly recognises new word and forces to delete that new word.) But After updated to 2020, I think, I anymore cannot avoid World-Ready Composer.

   After I designed to use World-Ready Composer, I found one more bug. Because in many situations when I craft the spacing in layout (especially in Thai), I always use thin-space to separate character like “ๆ” form word before and after to make the space between them look good. But After I set to World-Ready I found that when thin-space (include other spacial white space like en or em) is in the back of the line the spaces in question act like normal character, so the last character of the line when use left justify do not snap to right frame border. The space still there like It becames one of character. So you can see the gap between the last character and the right frame border. (you can find this instance in attachment in file “space issue.”)

   But the serious issue still there after the update. I, and all of my co-workers, found that everything about word wrapping in Thai language goes wrong after updated to 2020 version. This never happen in the former versions. I don't understand why this issue is happen. Even if I use Discretionary Line Break to help Indesign to wrap text properly. But It is not productive at all, because I had been forced to read text all over again and to insert Discretionary Line Break to every lines. (you can find this instance in attachment in file “wrap gone wrong.” In the high-light is the words that should be stick together.)

   PS. while I wrote this issue report, my co-worker tried to migrate back form 2020 to 2019 and she found that when copy revised text back to 2019 it not the same character encoding. I advised her to try to place that text to TextEdit. It appears that some character is changed to something that is not unicode at all. That never happen in previous versions too. ((you can find this instance in attachment in file “text form 2020” and “text form 2020.” the text form 2020 at frist did in 2019 before migrate to 2020.)

3. Black swatch in cell diagonal line is not overprint

   In Table and Cells, stroke color default swatch is [Black]. In this case, overprinting is set even if the overprint check box is off.
   However, the diagonal line does not set the overprint even if [Black] swatch is applied.
   This is not set unless the check box is checked, so it must be the same as stroke because it behaves differently from stroke.

4. Paragraph style bullets and numbering Arabic incorrect display Indesign 2020

   Latest Indesign 2020
   When specifying an Arabic string for Number in paragraph style Bullets and Numbering, the string does not display correctly. Every letter is connected to the letter to the right rather than the letter to the left.

   The wrong behavior is not present in Indesign 2019.

   In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.

5. Indents incorrect when importing Word document

   When importing a Word document that contains some indented paragraphs, the left indent being set to 5mm in Word (for example), once placed in InDesign, these 5mm indents typically show as 4.992mm. This would not neccesarily be a problem except that Find/Change in InDesign will not recognise an indent to 3 decimal places and therefore this cannot be located easily and fixed. This is proving to be a big problem in my workflow as I cannot automate the process of re-styling these paragraphs using InDesign Paragraph Styles with Find/Change. This bug occurs whatever measurement system is used, i.e. mm, inches, pts etc. Version of InDesign used: 14.0.3 although the same problem exists back to CS6 at least.

7. I can't open any file after upgrading to Catalina 15.10.1

   Yesterday I switched from Mojave to the new version of MacOS Catalina (15.10.1), and InDesign CC 2019 (updated to version 14.0.3) immediately after switching to the new operating system started to no longer open the files, either from the "Open file" both by double clicking on the file (I also tried to open the files as a copy, but InDesign also crashes in that case).
   Point out that I also tried uninstalling InDesign and erasing all preferences, but the situation is not solved.
   I kindly ask you to resolve the situation (which is not the downgrade to the old Mojave system) as soon as possible because I cannot work in this situation.
   My Mac is an iMac 4,2 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core (16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4)

   We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

   We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

9. InDesign freezes while Adding New/Editing Cross-References

   1. InDesign 13.1 x64 2a. Select the text, go to Insert Cross References either via Type > Hyperlinks & Cross References or via the Cross References Panel. 2b. Select text that already has a cross reference, go to Cross-Reference Options either via Type > Hyperlinks and Cross References of the Cross References panel.
   2. The New Cross-Reference or Edit Cross-Reference dialog box should open and function.
   3. InDesign freezes and has to be force quit. I've waited as long as 20 minutes for the system to function properly before having to force it to quit.

10. Open Asset Plugin window keeps opening up even though I keep shutting it. It continuously interrupts my flow.

    The Open Asset plugin for Indesign continuously pops up. I don't use it. I don't want to use it. I want it to stop popping up and interrupting my workflow. If I close the window, it should stay CLOSED.

11. Running head containing forced line break inserts space incorrectly

    When a Running Head text variable is generated, under certain (common) conditions, a double-space is inserted where a forced linebreak is used.

    To reproduce bug:

    1. Insert a Running Head text variable into a master page running head position.

    2. Specify the first instance of, say, Level-One paragraph style.

    3. In a multi-page text flow, insert a Level-One styled paragraph with enough text to force a line wrap.

    4. Within the Level-One paragraph, insert a Forced Line Break (FLB) character.

    5. Scroll text back and forth to force update of the text variable display.

    Result: On the page containing the Level-One paragraph, the running head will display a space where the FLB would be. On subsequent pages, the running head variable is expanded with NO space in that position.

    If you ADD a space in the Level-One paragraph, before or after the FLB, the first instance of the Running Head variable will contain TWO spaces, and subsequent instances will contain only ONE space.

    Thus, there is no viable work-around for this bug.

    I have attached a file illustrating the problem in a Spread layout. Note that if the first instance of the Level-One style is on the left-hand page (and the running head is on the right-hand page), the problem does not occur.

12. Google sheets in xlsx but still "Cannot place... no filter..."

    I try to place a spreadsheet created in Google sheets and saved as xlsx and I get the error message "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation". I am using a Mac & Mojave 10.14.6. My copy of InDesign is subscription.

13. Mongolian

    Issue: InDesign does not support Mongolian vertical text direction from left-to-right.

    Version: InDesign 2019, 14.0.2 x64

    Steps:
    1. Place or paste Mongolian text into an InDesign text frame by using the attached Word document
    2. Skew the text frame 90 degrees (as done with vertical Chinese and Japanese).

    Expected result: Please see the attached Word document and screenshot.

    Actual result: Notice that the vertical text direction is right-to-left and not left-to-right. Even if the text frame is skewed in the opposite direction (minus 90 degrees) the text is just mirrored and thus not readable.

    Test files and screenshot: They are attached. If need be you can download the Google Noto font called Noto Sans Mongolian that we used.

14. idml shifts images in bounding boxes

    PLEASE FIX THIS.

    We send both indd and idml file formats to asian print suppliers. depending on the adobe version the supplier is using we are finding images can shift within bounding boxes - cutting them off at the crop. Or text frames reduce – cutting off copy. This is an incredibly expensive discovery if it not caught in pre-press.

    My team is sending hundreds of files a year to Asian printer suppliers. this bug occurs in about 1 out of a hundred files.

    PLEASE FIX THIS.

15. Bugs with GPU, Bugs without GPU (zoom, moving objects, create text)

    Hi there,

    so for a couple of weeks, my Indesign behaves quite badly.
    For demonstration purposes, I created a new blank file but these bugs also occur in existing work projects.

    Case 1: GPU switched on (Image: GPU on):
    Zooming does not show any effect, only when I click in and change something. The rulers change, but my board/document is not zooming in (Video: Zooming with GPU). As soon as I found my page, the objects don't really move that well, more in a lagging, stocking way. (Video: Moving Objects with GPU).

    This leads to massive pain when you try to work fluently.

    Case 2: So I switched GPU off (Image GPU off):
    This helped with the zoom, it worked again. But then creating objects, for example, text, totally lagged in showing the content. Creating a new text field and typing anything in it leaves it completely blank until I choose a different tool or click outside the box. Also moving those objects does not happen in real time and does not show any preview. (Video: Type and Move without GPU)

    This, too, makes it really hard to build any kind of fluent workflow right now.

    I uninstalled and installed InDesign and Creative Cloud repeatedly. Other applications don't seem to be affected (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD).

    So. Any suggestions?

    When I now need to do things in InDesign, I have to give it away to a colleague or use his Computer. Could it also be something with the internal graphics? But why do all other apps work so well then and it's only InDesign behaving badly.

16. can't export tagged pdf

    Much time has been spent setting up accessible document in InDesign - added export tagging instructions to paragraph styles, added alt text to all images and figures, anchored images and objects to text, set up reading order using articles. The document will not export to PDF when "create tagged pdf" is selected. Program crashes every time before exporting is complete. Have tried on different computers. Applications are up to date. Have tried exporting from .indd and .idml file types.

    I work on books that often have endnotes in captions or sidebars. The captions/sidebars are always set up as separate frames (and sometimes as anchored objects). Any endnotes in separate frames end up at the end of the endnote list, regardless of where they fall in the page order.

18. InDesign Is Still Unusably Slow

    Despite this forum being filled with "solved" reports of InDesign being unusably slow, it remains so.
    I am editing a 4 page document that is almost all text, and yet I get the spinning ball after each and every keystroke. It can take 5-10 seconds just to complete typing a word, and heaven help me if I make a mistake and need to backspace.

    I just updated InDesign this morning so I am on 14.0.2. I'm running Windows 10 1903. The machine is an MSI laptop with an i7 processor and 12GB of RAM.

    I have attempted to edit the file with no other programs open and I get the same (lack of) results. But it's worth noting of course that "don't have anything else open" is hardly a realistic workflow for any modern user.

19. InD responding slowly

    This isn't a "bug" per se, but InD has slowed to a crawl when using. Doesn't matter if I am trying to select text, change tools, or click on a menu item. It's been going very slow for a while now, doesn't matter the file. I have tried to trash preferences and reinstall InD, and nothing has changed it. Oh, and I just have major lag, not a spinning ball.

    I am Win10, InD CC 14.0.2. The only plug-in I am running is Suitcase Fusion, and that is up to date as well.

    Help please, as InDesign is unusable at this speed. Maybe I will try to go back to an older version and see if that helps.

20. Index "Number Style Override" not working on multivolume works

    InDesign is not recognizing "Number Style Override" on a book document with seven documents. Only recognizing the overrides on the document in which the index is generated. Major suck points there.

    I'm running Mac OSX Mojave, 10.14.1, on a MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch from mid 2015. InDesign CC 2019.
