1. [Windows] InDesign/InCopy CC2018 is crashing on document close (icml file with anchored pdf file)

   InDesign/InCopy CC2018 have an issue with PDF (and probably AI) files used as anchors in text frames when the Display Performance/Vector Graphics option is set to High Resolution.

   Steps to reproduce:
   As I'm unable to attach a zip file in here (why?) here's the link to the example:

   1. Start InDesign/InCopy (with settings/cache cleared)
   2. Menu: Edit -> Preferences -> Display Performance -> Adjust View Settings -> Vector Graphics [set to: High Resolution]
   3. Open "crash-example.idml" file.
   4. Select "Update Links" in the dialog (if asked)
   5. Replace crash-example.icml file with a file found in "replace-file-1" folder
   6. Update Content of the text frame (menu -> InCopy -> Update Content or CTRL+F5)
   7. Close the file with CTRL+W (or by clicking "x" in the tab)
   8. When asked to save changes select "No"
   9. InDesign (or InCopy) crashes.

   Additional info:
   * Changing Preferences/Display Performance/Adjust View Settings/Vector Graphics to "Proxy" - the document closes without a crash (but only if the pdf was first loaded with that setting).
   * InDesign versions affected: 13.0.0, 13.1.1
   * InCopy versions affected: 13.0, 13.1.1
   * Versions not affected: 10.0, 11.0, 12.0, 14.0
   * Operating system affected: Windows

   Please provide a fix for this issue in CC2018 as it makes InDesign/InCopy unusable in some workflows.

2. images oversized on text import

   This is not a new issue. Just haven't reported it before.
   I work on educational books. Text comes in Word files.
   Almost every time I place a Word file with graphics, the graphics show up HUGE. Some are so big, the only way I've been able to deal with is create a huge file, open the text box up to include every bit of space.
   Today... the only size that would allow me to see the graphic was 400p x 400p!

   Not an isolated issue. I receive Word files from multiple sources, and every Word file upon import has graphics that are oversized.

   This is not a new issue. Just haven't reported it before.

3. Auto-Fit tick box does not work and has no effect when placing images into a Frame or Rectangle

   I am using InDesign CC 2018 V13.1. In previous versions the Auto-Fit tick box worked just fine. With CC 2018 it does not. When placing an image into a Frame or Rectangle, ticking the Auto-Fit tick box has no effect. The image is placed into the box at full size. I then have to resize the image manually or using the Fit Content To frame button. I teach InDesign at Cambridge University and this missing feature is confusing for beginners. Please let me now how to rectify this issue.

4. PDF-Comments Panel - Buttonclicks don't register - click several times + SOLUTION

   Report a minor issue in Indesigns PDF-Correction-Panel.

   SOMETIMES in the PDF-correction panel my mouseclicks on the "accept"-Button wouldn't register reliably and i have to click several times in order for the correction to be made. Solution: The clickable area in the button is wrong. You have to click on the "accept"-TEXT inside the button, you can't click somewhere in the outer highlighted area of the button (which would be the expected behaviour).

   (Bug in latest version of Indesign CC, as of May2022, german locale)

5. Index entry crash 2021

   Adding index entries is crashing the program. I've also had issue copying and pasting and dragging copies on certain pages that I have had to rebuild instead. Really disappointing and driving me crazy with a deadline looming

6. crash split layout view

   InDesign (randomly) crashes when copying/pasting from one view to the other in split layout view.
   At this time I'm working on a Windows 10 machine with InDesign 17.3 installed, but I've had this isue already for years, going back to InDesign 14. The problem occured also on Mac machines with Sierra and Catalina installed.

   I can't timely reproduce the issue, it happens randomly, but always with split layout view in use. Only today InDesign crashed already 7 times while I was working in split layout view.

7. hyperlinks missing or corrupt when opening CC2017 documents into CC2019

   InDesign files opened from CC2017 (They were on our backup server from a job 3 years ago) using InDesign 14.0.2 x64 on Win10 64bit (CC2019) -
   They open fine without any issue except the hyperlinks - they are all broken/corrupt. When doubleclicking on one, it is effectively blank, as if I were making a new one.
   I tried saving as .idml and reloading, but it was still the same. How can I get these hyperlinks back to normal? Do I have to reinstall CC2017 again (is that even possible?).

   We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

   We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020 (if you’re not already on it) as it is more robust.

   If you still face this issue even after updating to the latest version of InDesign, start a new thread by adding all the relevant details.

8. 15.1.2 inserting ANY html is not working

   Version:
   bug only appears on inDesign 15.1.2 on OSX.
   I tested on inDesign 15.1.1 and inDesign 14.x and it had no issue.
   I also tested on inDesign 15.1.2 on Windows and it had no issue.

   Steps to reproduce the issue:
   -click on "object" -> "insert HTML code" then click "ok". changing the HTML snippet or not make no difference.

   Expected result:
   an HTML item is added and previewed correctly without any error message

   Actual Result:
   The preview of the HTML snippet is not working and after a few seconds, a dialog modal appears saying "Waiting time exceeded for HTML renderer. A poster image could not be generated."

   This is very annoying when using this feature manually and even more annoying when using a script that adds HTML elements because this message will appear and block inDesign every 10 seconds for each element created this way. Even a small document with 1 HTML item per page and 20 pages will be blocked for a few minutes.

   Version:

9. prompt message

   a prompt appears on the bottom of my indesign screen after opening an old file I need to work on (my portfolio):

   "Type 1 fonts will no longer be supported after 2023

   A blue message box regarding Type 1 not being support starting 2023. Your document contains 0 Type 1 fonts...... more info....."

   That box is not leaving my workspace even after I click for more information; It obstructs my workspace.

   The chat technician says:

   "The message must only be popping up while working on the document. It will not appear once you export it to other file format. I am sharing you a link where you can post your suggestion regarding the product :
   https://indesign.uservoice.com/
   I will also be sharing the issue with my senior to fix this if possible."

   So my suggestion is to please add a "close window" after one reads the message - I will be working on many old files (as I'm new to Creative Cloud) and this will continue to be an issue for me. I understand that 2023 is when this will no longer be working. I can not substitute all of my files (so much extra work) that quickly - to rid this box to work effectively. So the close window will be super helpful ;/

10. After typing values in dialogue boxes, InDesign list panels unusable + Mouse click outside InDesign window not working

    Hi all,
    I have a persistent issue with scrolling some InDesign panel lists such as swatches, font list, font weight.
    After I type any set value on a dialogue box (like font size, transparency, color tone, font spacing etc), some fundamental InDesign panels become unusable: list elements (swatches, fonts etc) slip away from mouse selection like they were anchored to cursor.
    Mouse click outside InDesign window to desktop or other apps also doesn't work.
    Functionality can be restored only by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Canc and then Esc.

    I attach a sample video of the issue:
    1. two panels working correctly (Font panel and Swatches panel);
    2. typing of a random value on a random box (not important which box, the issue appears after any keyboard entering on any dialogue box);
    3. the same panels not working anymore (in the video I am only moving the cursor over them, without pressing any mouse button).

    More details about malfunctioning:

    • Paragraph/Font Style panel list, Glyphs list, Layers/Pages/Links panel lists work correctly.

    • If I set a Font/Paragraph Style: font scrolling and selection on Style Option window works, whereas swatch scrolling and selection has the same issue shown on the attached video.

    I already tried to delete InDesign cache and I also restored default InDesign preferences, but issue recurs.
    I think there could be a conflict between InDesign and hardware/OS settings, here details:

    InDesign version: 18.2.1 (+ ANY earlier CC version. I had identical issues on all previous versions on this pc).
    OS: Windows 10 x64, all updates installed
    PC model: Dell XPS-15 7590
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
    Mouse model: Dell WM615 (Bluetooth), drivers updated to last version.

11. EPUB; Exporting a numbered list to a reflowable pub

    When working with "numbered list: in Indesign, paragraph style work great.

    However after working and exporting it to a reflowable Epub it doesnt respect alignment and moves inward. I have looked up for anyone who has encountered the same problem making sure I wasn't the only one and yup there are others with the same issue.

    I would like not to, for every numbered list in every book, to convert numbering to text. This is something I have seen as an issue since someone commenting since 2014 and not receiving any solution.

    I need to know if there is some type of work around please and thank you

12. Pressing letter "2" changes text layout / format, but only in one document

    Pressing letter "2" changes text layout / format, but only in one document

    Hi, I've had this issue with one InDesign file. Whenever I press letter "2", text formatting in that paragraph changes, and the letter "2" won't appear. Copy+paste works, but that should not be the answer. This problem occurs only in this one document (and been here over several version updates), so I assume it might be some sort of quick key setting, and I don't know how or where to fix it (already searched through quick key listing). Please help?

13. opening an IDML zeroes the pasteboard dimensions

    EVERY time when I open the IDMLs (probably from previous version of indesign - now I have 19.4 x64) the pasteboard dimensions are set to zero.
    And only with IODML - opening INDD goes normal.

    I think its a last update issue.

    Since upgrading to InDesign 2024, we've encountered a persistent issue where the Links Panel becomes overwhelmed with linked assets. This overflow makes the panel difficult, if not impossible, to use effectively.

    Problem Description:
    The issue manifests when working with documents that contain a large number of unique linked assets. Upon selecting an asset (e.g., an image) within a page, the Links Panel attempts to highlight the corresponding link. However, instead of functioning as expected, the panel becomes cluttered and overflows with the document's other links, severely hindering our ability to work efficiently.

    Steps to Reproduce:

    Ensure your document contains a significant amount of unique linked assets.
    Open the document and select any asset on the page.
    Observe the behaviour of the Links Panel as it tries (and fails) to highlight the selected link amidst a chaotic overflow of other links.
    Troubleshooting Attempts:

    Reinstalled InDesign 2024.
    Reset InDesign’s preferences to default.
    Switched from a custom workspace back to the default workspace.
    Despite these efforts, the problem persists. Attached is a screenshot illustrating the issue we're experiencing.

15. Shadows not displaying correctly on InDesign 21.0.1

    We noticed some shadows are bugging with InDesign 21.0.1.

    Steps to reproduce the issue:

    • Open an InDesign 20.5 document. Create an object with a shadow. Close. Open the same document in InDesign 21.0.1. Check if the shadow is displaying correctly.

16. InDesign 2025 (v20.0) is allowing me to open the same file more than once

    InDesign 2025 (v20.0) is allowing me to open 2024 v19.5 files more than once. It doesn't seem to be an issue once the file is converted from 19.5 to 20.0 but it's concerning as I edit files made previously.

17. new version switches back to older version

    I use InDesign for our school newsletter. I'm having issues with it switching from 2017 version to 2018 on any given day. This could be a department issue or could it be the program. Very frustrated with it at the moment. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

18. My title text boxes have weird word spacing I can't correct

    I was happy with the last version of Indesign which I used on a non-Mac computer. My brand new uptodate version on the Mac is hopeless and I am in despair that I can't get instant help on my issue!

19. InDesign CC 2017 closeExtension() does NOT work properly.

    Problem is reproducible with InDesign CC 2017 newest patch.
    All the request information is available under Adobe Community link: https://forums.adobe.com/message/9853814#9853814
    Other Adobe Extension developers also tested and verified this described issue.

    When I try to open a window using the help search bar, the screen freezes.
    I can't press any buttons and requires crashes.

    I'm on Mac OS M1 Pro - Sonoma 16.2.1
    (Double check on intel i9 12.6.3 - no issue)

    We have released InDesign 2025(v20.2.0.036) with many stability fixes. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version (if you’re not already using it) as it is more robust.

    If you are still facing this issue even after updating it, please send the following information to santalwa@adobe.com :

    • Reproducible Steps – What were you doing when InDesign froze?
    • Video recording of the issue
    • Is(Are) the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If yes, could you provide us with the document(s)/asset(s)? Please package the entire document (To package the document, choose File → Package…)
