Object States panel - Renaming is not working
InDesign isn't allowing me to rename the different states in "object layer states". I have looked this up and there are a couple of other people who have posted about the same thing. I am running InDesign 16.0.2 and its on a MacBook Pro running the OS BIg Sur.
3 votesThe fix for this issue is now available in the latest update to InDesign - InDesign 17.1 available through CCD app.
Please note that you would need to update to the latest macOS Monterey 12.1 also to see this working correctly.

open a file window
Hi. I'm running on InDesign 15.0.3 on macOS Catalina 10.15.5
I was editing a file when suddenly InDesign crashed. A crash report was submitted and no harm was done. I proceeded to open InDesign and everything seemed fine with one exception. When I go File > Open, the Open a File window color theme does not match the interface color theme I've chosen (which is set to Dark). I tried changing to all the other color themes and it remained the same. Then I went into my OS system preferences and made sure my appearance has Dark chosen for all…

[ID-4250752][MAC]Page numbers cut-off in Page panel when viewing in Horizontal mode
Currently on Mac OS Big Sur using inDesign 16.1
When viewing the pages panel in horizontal view and the page count exceeds what the panel can hold the scroll bars appear but then the last row of pages seem to have their page numbers hidden behind the UI and are not visible no matter how much you move the scroll bars down.
I have seen this behavior since inDesign 15 on Mac OS Catalina.

Text of title of Open file dialog window is too close to the edge
Text of title of Open file dialog window is too close to the edge.
Though rather cosmetic issues, it’s annoying to the eye of a designer. ;-) (InDesign 17.2.1, macOS 12.3, Czech language)

System wide “Emoji & Symbols” panel is not working
The “picker panels” of macOS and Windows are really nice to quickly get an emoji or special character. The keyboard shortcuts for both work system wide. Almost. It works in applications from Adobe on Windows but not on Mac. I do not understand why this is blocked.

Please fix tool panels going off screen
Tool panels are an absolute nightmare in Indesign. The detection of, in which direction the panel should open is buggy. I have the Application Frame on my main screen and the tool panels all on my second screen. The setting panels never pop up into a direction where it's handy. They just go outside of the screen.
Also, when having some tabs open and some collapsed, it's an absolute nightmare to open a different one. InDesign does not care about how big your screen is. It just makes the panel bigger and bigger and go out of…

ID window stutters when minimizing on MacBook Air M2 running StageManager
I know you're working on making ID run natively on the M2 chip. One glitch...when minimizing the app on my new MacBook Air M2 /Ventura, the ID window stutters as it shrinks to the desktop -- instead of smoothly moving as other apps. This happens with all my Adobe apps, but it's most noticeable with InDesign. It's a minor glitch but visually annoying.

Can't click through InDesign to desktop or other app + InDesign list panels tilt
When I click on panel boxes to adjust values like font size, transparency, color tone etc, InDesign list panels (swatches, fonts etc) tilt and list elements slip away from mouse selection like they were magnetic.
Can't exit from InDesign window (mouse click to desktop or other apps doesn't work). Functionality can be restored only by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Canc and then Esc.InDesign version: 16.4.2 (and earlier versions)

Icon Panels do not expand correctly when Application Frame is OFF.
Recurring issue from one InDesign upgrade to the next! Found 2- and 6-year old reports of the same bug. In-between updates fix it but reoccurs with every new upgrade...
ISSUE
When Application Frame is disabled, panels that are on the right side of the screen don't expand towards the left as they normally would but to the right.
The bigger the UI scaling size, the more to the right of the screen the panel expansion moves, soon disappearing altogether. Only smallest sizing allows to display properly.
Attaching screenshot for reference.
No problem when Application Frame is enabled.TECHNICAL INFO:…

last window size unremembered when application frame turned off
InDesign on Mac 16.102 will not remember last open document size when Application Frame is turned off. When no document is currently open and I want to open a new document it always fills the entire space on my monitor between the tools on the left and the pallets on the right. I have to manually drag the new document window to the size I want. It's not convenient and user friendly! If the Application frame is turned on - it WILL remember. But as a Mac user I want that frame turned off - like it used to be.

PDF comment panel resets when moving back and forth to the doc
The website is too awkward to search quickly, if this has been posted/mentioned before, so apologies if this has been covered.
I'm working on a catalogue I have PDF Comments on, and I'm sourcing content from other ID files. When flicking back and forth, the PDF Comment panel resets back to the top and opens up each page tab, after I've minimised that page, because it's so long.
It's making it really annoying to go from the cat to a doc, come back, and have to scroll down dozens of pages' worth of comments, to get back to where I…

InDesign window doesn't automatically scale when switching between laptop and an external monitor, and application screen goes blank
This issue has been posted before, with no solution. Ever since one of the more recent updates to InDesign, the application window no longer automatically scales to fit the screen when connected to an external monitor and, when it's connected, the application window is blank—showing only the pasteboard color across the whole application window.
So you have to hit the "+" to expand the app window to the full screen area, close the file window, and reopen the file in order to work again.
Similarly, if you hit "Shift + W" to view Presentation Mode, the application window…1 vote -

Naming layers in the docked layers panel and naming things in paragraph styles details box
As described in this thread :
https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/can-t-rename-layers-indesign-2021-16-0-also-happened-in-2020/td-p/11550199/page/2?page=1It's impossible to rename layers when the panel is docked
I also have problems in naming things in some particular panels like the Paragraph styles details box when i want to create a nested style and type the exact word i want the style to stop
(see screen capture) i manage to click it but it's like magic clic and clic and clic... sometimes work sometimes not... i'm getting crazy with it and loos a lot of time.Thank you for updating

Save as... Open, Place... dialog panels too small
In Big Sur, the Save as... (cmd-S) Open (cmd-O) and Place... (cmd-D) dialog boxes are too small. They only offer between three and six lines of text. However, you can drag the panel out to see more folders/files, BUT, it doesn't stick. When you've closed the dialog and open it again, it has reverted to the smaller size.
Photoshop doesn't seem to suffer with this issue, but Illustrator does.

Typekit (or Adobe Fonts) or Fonts menu collapses while browsing through the list of fonts.
I am absolutely loving the new InDesign features. But, whilst testing the new Typekit/Adobe Fonts browsing window in InDesign I came across this bug / crash. Instead of allowing me to freely roam the vast selection of fantastic fonts, the window just decides to close and defaults to one of the already synced fonts.
InDesign version: 14.0, included a screencap.
