primary text frames threading is not honored on document pages
- Adobe InDesign 15.0.1 x64 (Windows 10)
- Facing pages document. I create a master page that includes two text frames per page--creating a two column spread on each page. I designate the leftmost frame as the primary text frame, and then manually link it to the frame just to its right. That frame is then linked to the leftmost frame on the right side page, and that one is linked to the frame furthest to the right. So the frames are linked, from left to right: frame 1 is primary, which is linked to frame 2, then to frame 3 (on…

Steps to reproduce issue:
a.) drag a formatted dummy text block to page from CC Library
b.) select dummy text block, CMD + D, select copy file to place.
c.) select same dummy text block, CMD + D, select any copy file and place again.

Master Pages text frame
Version 14.0.3 in Windows 7.
- Created a documents with facing pages and primary text frames
- Master A with text frame rule so can visible.
- Created Master B which is based on Master A
- Resized text frame of Master A
- Impact on master B.. Text frame shifted out of page area.
This strange behavior is while resizing using mouse drag. If resize through control panel it's perfect. But if move both mouse and through x,y control panel same strange behavior.

Hanging Indent plus Left Justify makes words float out of text frame
I often use bulleted lists with the commmand/backslash (hanging indent) tool. If the text is aligned left, no problem. But when I use left justify, it sends some of the words off to the right — outside of the text frame! Please see examples below.
The text samples here were using Adobe Paragraph Composer. But when I switched it to World-Ready it fixed it!
I've been having this problem for a while. Before I updated to InDesign 2018 and after the update as well. I'm running El Capitan 10.11.6 on a Mid 2011 iMac.

Maintain vertical alignment textframe when using Text Wrap
When a text frame with vertical alignment 'Bottom' is partially over a frame which uses Text Wrap, the alignment isn't locked to the bottom of the frame anymore. Is it possible to maintain the set vertical alignment when using the Text Wrap option (see screenshot). (MacOS 10.15.7, INDD 16.4 + 17.1)

InDesign library with images linked to server disappears on placement
An InDesign library with entries that contain images LINKED TO A SERVER will not drag-and-drop to the InDesign page. The library entry disappears upon releasing the mouse button and a Mac system alert sounds. Repeatable in CC2020, CC2021, and CC2022 in Big Sur and Monterey. This doesn't happen in OS Catalina.
Using SMB protocol to connect to image server.
Repro Steps:
1) Put images on a server. Use different image formats (.ai, .eps, .jpg, etc.)
2) Link those images from the server to image boxes in InDesign.
3) Add those images boxes to an InDesign library.
4) Drag/drop those entries…1 vote -
Text Frame Lag when Window > Control (Panel) is enabled.
When Control Panel is enabled (Window > Control), double clicking into a text frame has a lag for about a second. Turning off the Control Panel helps but this is not a solution.
I think this lag is related to loading fonts in background for the select field – doesn’t matter how much or how less fonts are installed/loaded on Mac.
As this is a long existing performance issue yet (available since 2018), could you please consider to optimize the lag for text frames within a future update, finally?

Paragraph bottom border overlaps the text
As I mentioned here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/paragraph-bottom-border-overlaps-the-text/m-p/11348398?page=1 the issue occurs when I set a paragraph style with a border and additionally anchor a text frame at the end of it. The border overlaps each time changes to text are made (additional lines, adding a page, deleting a page – everything that causes the flow of the text).
Some similar issue was reported here https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/38784706-footnotes-in-paragraph-borders-style by swapan.
InDesign version ID 2020 15.1.1 and PR Installer (15.1.2.221) on Windows 10. The problem occurs since I have started using a combination paragraph border + anchored text frame (more than 8 month ago).…

Find/Replace text (date) after using Convert Date to Text function
I am trying to replace text in multiple stories throughout the document. Each story is formatted with text and tabs (not a table). The find/change uses the FIND/CHANGE>TEXT option. I am searching for "28 May 2025" to change it to "2 July 2025". When I search, find, find/change, and change all, the results append the page number in triplicate in front of the leading date digit. For example, page 9 (attached) is "0909092 July 2025" and page 42 is "4242422 July 2025". When I copied the text to include in this report (see attached), only date date is captured…

Autoflow Text is Crashing InDesign
Autoflow text is crashing InDesign. The progress bar gets to about 90% and then it crashes.
The text document is about 50,000 words, so it's nothing unusual.

To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received an email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.
We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding: Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.
We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2021(v16.0.0.77) as it is more robust and contains a lot of bug fixes.
We seek your support in our continual effort to improve InDesign.

Endnotes in text flow - Not on a separate page
Import endnotes as plain text in the text flow. NOT on a separate page! How hard is this to understand? I groom text in one document and then copy and paste the magazine article/book chapter into another Indesign file. I can't do this if you put the endnotes in a separate text flow. It's really terrible! Dynamic notes has just been a complete failure!

Be able to anchor already created text box
Use Case Scenario: Create text box, use text box. Realize it'd be nice to anchor already created text box to another text box/object/???.
Current workflow: copy text, delete text box, find anchor point, insert anchor point, adjust anchor point, create anchored text box, copy text box, further adjust text box.
Desired workflow: right click on text box/text -> select "anchor to [text/object/???]", anchor to [text/object/???], adjust anchor point settings. No need to redo entire content. Why can't this be done? It's always an option for non-text box content boxes/objects, correct? So why can't …

Pasting Chinese text from illustrator to Indesign changes the content of the text. Help!
I have text in Illustrator that are in Chinese, using 苹方-简 typeface. When I copy and paste the same text into Indesign, the text changes into new characters.
I know you need to expand the characters to use as vectors, but sometimes we need to change the text and go back and forth before finalizing. The question is why does it not do that for english text? I copy and paste between illustrator and indesign all the time, but this is the first time I've come across changing the text content completely.
Running CC 2019 for all.

Incopy with Conditional text not holding
I design electrical manuals in InDesign, some text is shared between books using InCopy. Some of the text is product specific so I use Conditions to turn that text off and on. But when I create the Condition in one book and then open the book with shared InCopy links, that text and everything after it is now that same Condition.
I tried everything to fix this. The only workaround I found to work is making the Paragraph Return before the text I want Conditioned and leaving the Paragraph return after my text Unconditional will work.1 vote -

Jumbled Text
I'm having an issue with catalogs I'm working with. When I open the most recent version of an INDD file, there is jumbled text in the headings and subheadings, even though the PDF exported fine when the file was last opened. Advice?

[ID-4261011] In Find/Change, search for font style (eg "Book") incorrectly selects "Regular" style text, even if "Book" style isn't present
In InDesign 2021 (the latest version both on Mac and Windows), I add a text frame and fill it with placeholder text which is set, by default, to Minion Pro - Regular.
Then I go to the find-change dialog box and set 'find format > basic character format > font style' to Book.
And guess what happens when I hit the ‘find next’ button? It selects all the ‘regular text. (The document has no text with the 'book' font style applied!)
Selecting another style — e.g. Bold, Italic, etc. — results, as expected, in the 'cannot find match' alert.…13 votesHi,
