1. Text wrapping around image should honor Corner Options

   There are two issues - a feature request and what I think is actually a bug (related to the workaround for the lacking feature).

   The primary question I asked in the forum feels like a bug to me, but I'm told it should be considered a feature request. So I request that in terms of text wrap, graphics frames generated by placing an image would behave the same as graphics frames created by the frame tool. If an image is placed and then Corner Options are applied, text wrap set to Graphics Frame should respond to the corners instead of staying square.

   The bug relates to the workaround suggested on that forum thread. When a graphic (not its frame) is copied and "Paste Into" another frame, text wrap settings of the original frame should not be carried along with the graphic content, because it's not the frame that is being copied, but just the content. That seems like a definite bug to me.

3. Option to have list indents work near text-wrap objects

   Currently, when text containing bulleted or numbered lists wraps around an object, all indents associated with the list settings are ignored (this might be related to tab settings, since those don't follow the wrap either). The typical workaround is to change the Text After to an en-space and add an "Indent to Here" character, but the en-space trick won't work for numbered lists and "Indent to Here" won't work if the text wrap edge is not perfectly straight vertical. See the attached screenshot for a demonstration based on real work I did yesterday. In order not to disrupt existing layouts, this should be added as an option - I imagine a checkbox in either the Text Wrap settings or Bullets/Numbering settings, whichever you think is more appropriate. It could called something like "Treat edge of wrap as edge of text frame", so that tab stops, list indents, and anything else that behaves this way will honor the wrap. (An extra-cool additional checkbox option could be to have even the stroke and fill of the text frame follow the wrap, but I know that would be much harder code to write.)

   Fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign version - InDesign 2023. The fix should solve most of the issues that were seen earlier.

   A new option "Honor Text Indents in addition to Text Wrap" is introduced in Preferences > Composition dialog. It is turned ON by default for new documents created in ID2023. For documents created in previous InDesign versions, this option is turned off by default - which can be turned ON to see the improved behavior.

5. Convert Clipping Path to Frame for multiple objects

   There is a command, Object > Clipping path > Convert Clipping Path to Frame. This will read the clipping path in a placed image and convert it to a frame. The command only works when only one object is selected, If multiple images are selected and every one of them has a clipping path the command is selectable but has no effect. There is no reason for this limitation.

6. Utilize paragraph shading for text messages with improved functionality

   The new paragraph shading feature would be fantastic to use for laying out text message conversations in books, but needs a few tweaks to make is fully functional. Text messages in books is becoming very common.

   It used to be that you had to create shapes and anchor each in for a text message. Now you can use Paragraph Shading defined in the style for left side texts with no adjustments, but because right side text messages need to have the "bubble" shape aligned right, but the interior text left aligned. My solution is (see sample file):
   Create three base paragraph styles:
   1. <left_side_text>: Defined: All text styling, right/left indents, alignments, and space above/below, etc.
   2. <right_side_text>: Defined: Based on <left_side_text>, but remove left/right indents
   3. <right_side_text_align>: Defined: Based on <right_side_text>, but change to align flush right, add right indent 18pt, turn off paragraph shading.

   Next steps:
   1. Cut out all the rightsidetext and create a standalone text frame for each text.
   2. Create (or leave) empty returns where each right side text was and apply <right_side_align> to the return.
   3. Paste the text frames into the empty returns where appropriate to anchor frame.
   4. Select each frame and apply the Object style (Text Message Right in sample file attached).

   Could there be a way to separately control the shading alignment from the interior text alignment within the paragraph style? Much like how text functions within a div?

7. Issue when Step and Repeating Text Centered in Box.

   When i have text centered in a text box and hit step and repeat the text shoots up to the top of the text frame. No text wraps on any files - Text still says centered in box under text frame options. ????

8. button "align to baseline grid"

   Formerly there has been a button "align to baseline grid" in the paragraph control panel. Although ticked in the control panel of the paragraph control panel, it doesn't show up. This has been a very practical button. I am missing it already for many months.

9. Frame handles that don't include stroke as in Illustrator

   It is possible to uncheck 'Dimensions include stroke weight' so that dimensions show the actual size of the element (box, circle etc.) regardless of the stroke weight and stroke alignment. But the frame-selection and -handles still align with the outside of the stroke, which I find a bit frustrating, when I for example want to resize objects to align with, and snap to the edge of other objects or guides. Please change this, so it is consistent with how it works in Illustrator, which I think is how most people would expect it to work.

10. Preserve positioning data when pasting graphic from one frame to another

    When I copy an image from one frame and paste it into another, I expect this action to preserve two sets of attributes: scaling factor and positioning data.

    I get one out of two (scaling).

    No offense, but QuarkXPress could do both back in 1990.

    Why does this matter? Imagine a layout with a horizontal row of head shots, each in a separate frame of the same shape and size. Client says, "Oh, please move photo 3 to frame 10, and scoot everyone else up one frame."

    I don't have to imagine this situation, as I'm currently working on a project with four spreads just like that, for a total of 60 images. Moving one image as described above is a lengthy process of copying and pasting (or trying to remember and type in) a whole bunch of x/y coordinates from one box to another.

    I've looked for scripts to automate the process and come up empty handed.

    This is so far beyond basic from a production standpoint that I really shouldn't have to explain why.

11. Frame Fitting Panel

    Fairly self explanatory. Frame fitting options are one of the only frequently used features that don't have their own panel, which can cause UX issues for various reasons. Solution, give them a panel.

12. Remove Story panel, make optical alignment a paragraph attribute.

    The Story panel has only one option, optical alignment, and it is badly implemented. It applies to an entire story across multiple text frames, columns, and pages, and has one value for point size regardless of the point size of the various styles used throughout the story.

    Instead, make optical alignment and hanging punctuation two paragraph attributes. Allow the point size to be left black, forcing InDesign to apply the current size for each paragraph.

    Invoking the command would create individual text frames for each of the columns so they can be manipulated individually.

14. Picture frame and actual picture selecting

    Sometimes, I just wanna click on the whole frame+picture and move it up/left/down but it selects the picture INSIDE and therefore moves out of the blue frame. Sometimes I need to move the picture inside of the frame and it selects the blue frame instead. And it keeps happening on random like no care for double click, one click or 1000000000milions click. Just add some idk, alt, shift, control, ctrl+alt+shift combination or whatever feature for it to be selecting either the frame or the picture. SEPARATELY! I am seriously tired of this because it does trigger at random and its just hellof an annoying randomness that makes the whole "smooth" work 3x - 10x longer.

15. Create auto align between selection & art boards like in Illustrator.

    In Adobe Illustrator, when you select a single object, it will automatically change the alignment option to "Align to Artboard". Additionally, if you select more than one object, the alignment option automatically changes to "Align to Selection". I think this feature would be amazing in InDesign. It could work the same way where a single object or text is aligned to artboard and multiple are aligned to selection and maybe if you grouped multiple objects, it would go back to artboard until you select another group or object.

16. Content to Frame with Live Typography

    If there is a fit to frame to content tool. We should get a fit content to frame tool that works with live typography.

    I am not sure if this is a feature or not. I am also about to get more into creative coding so I would really appreciate it if you could get back to me with an explanation as to how you automate a feature like that with code.

17. Highlight show rags from multiple text boxes ( almost like a smart guide for rags)

    A live view feature that shows the edges of rags so you can optically adjust with all rags in view into consideration - instead of dragging multiple ruler guides or whatever.

    Saves time and provides tighter control of text and layout

18. Footnote Numbering Across Independent Text Frames

    Currently, footnote numbering continues only within threaded text frames. It would be extremely helpful if footnote numbering could optionally continue across separate, unlinked text frames within the same document. This would allow for more flexible layout designs without breaking numbering consistency.

19. Make text variables/live captions breakable like normal text

    We work a lot with pictures that get there captions from xmp meta data stored in the pictures.

    There is a great feature in InDesign called textvariables/live captions ;) for this… BUT these variables don‘t wrap like normal text :(

    Instead we have to convert the live captions to static text to get the proper text warp and in doing so losing our live link to the XMP meta data.

    So please enhance this feature to a real feature and allow variables to wrap like normal text. Thanks!

20. Copy/move image from one frame to another keeping original coordinates

    Please make it standard (or at least possible) to copy or move an image from a frame to another frame and keep the position of the image identical to the original (or relatively identical when the frame sizes are different). I think it used to be like that in earlier versios of Indesign but since a couple of years this behaviour is gone.
