  1. Direct Editing of Photoshop Layers in InDesign

    Description:
Currently, users must switch back to Photoshop to edit layer details, masks, or effects before re-importing images into InDesign. This process can be time-consuming and interrupts the creative flow. It would be highly efficient to enable direct editing of Photoshop layers—such as brush adjustments, opacity, blend modes, and layer masks—within InDesign itself, without needing to reopen Photoshop.

    Benefits for Users:

Streamlines the workflow by reducing the need to switch between Photoshop and InDesign
Speeds up the design process, as minor adjustments could be made directly in InDesign
Allows more flexibility in applying last-minute edits and achieving the desired look…

  2. Round corners should not be quarter circles connected with lines.

The eye will spot the connection points so these points need extra care.
Adobe should study how Apple shaved off these points on the icons in the iOS. System iOS 6 had the round-corner-fault but in iOS 7 the shape is much better.
I wish Adobe could give us tools to control the round corners, to shave off these connections points. Old Freehand had this feature. Please bring it back to Illustrator and InDesign.

  3. button "align to baseline grid"

Formerly there has been a button "align to baseline grid" in the paragraph control panel. Although ticked in the control panel of the paragraph control panel, it doesn't show up. This has been a very practical button. I am missing it already for many months.

  4. Interactive PDF/Form Function

Interactive PDFs - Better functions for Setting Tab Order.

Being able to reorder interactive items in InDesign is a great feature (instead of doing so in Acrobat) but there is room for growth.

    1. Having the ability to track the selections you're reordering would be nice. For example, you select an item in the box and it selects or highlights those items on your page so you know for sure what you're reordering.

    2. You could use the active document to select an item and have the Set Tab Order box open/working to reorder.

    3. Having the ability to expand…

  5. Allow multiple character styles to be applied to characters

Allow multiple character styles to be applied to one character.
There should be an »appearance« panel as in Illustrator, which reflects the hierarchy of multiple applied character styles to one character/a text.

This would ease the work with XML and reduce the number of character styles needed. Nowadays you have to trick with GREP styles etc. to apply multiple character styles to one character.
With such a feature, I could define »italic« and »bold« and has no need to define »bold italic«. This will even end up in better HTML export: instead of <span class="BoldItalic">blabl</span> there could be the much…

  6. Align points on a path using direct selection and the Align tool like AI does

Make it possible to select points on a path via Direct selection and then use the Align tool them to each other like AI allows. This would make drawing precise lines far easier.

  8. Notification after background task completes

Sometimes background tasks can take a fair bit of time and we may switch to other things, take a phone call, go to lunch, meeting....If the Alerts panel was more about notifications, we would be able to know a bit more of what has happened with the task - if it completed, how long it took or even provide a link to view or email the exported PDF.

  9. Improve hanging punctuation settings

Hanging punctuation can improve the typesetting. But sometimes it creates undesired effects. For instance hanging bullets look terrible. On the contrary, some characters are missing (see https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/37832143-add-hanging-punctuation-for-chevrons)

Please add the option to modify the list of hanging characters and let users define their own value of this effect.

Affinity Publisher is a good example (see attached screenshot): users can define hanging punctuation value in % for any glyph, even for letters, this is very useful for headlines.

And please make the setting part of the Paragraph Style as recommended here: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/37880509-remove-story-panel-make-optical-alignment-a-parag – the Story panel does not make…

  10. Would like to see a faster and quicker alignment tool added to the control bar.

Would like to see a faster and quicker alignment tool added to the control bar.

Sometimes it's a bit troublesome to switch between alignment panels, so I would like to add a more direct alignment panel to the control bar.
Can quickly align to bleed, margins, centre of plate, horizontal centre, vertical centre.
There is also a function to align to a reference line (the reference line and the object are aligned to each other).

It's kind of like the table control

  11. Reflowable EPUB Preview inside InDesign

The EPUB Interactivity preview panel is SO handy. Can we get one for reflowable epubs too (or add this feature to that one)? I would like to see the effects of chapter breaks, floats, image anchors, etc. within InDesign instead of the EPUB export dance all the time. BONUS if it can show me a preview that's roughly equivalent to a chosen preset like iBooks, Kindle, Nook, ADE, Overdrive, and so on.

  13. Measure Space Between Objects & Margins With a Toggle Key

I'd love to see some of the same measurement tools that have made their way into Adobe XD and Photoshop work in InDesign.

Being able to quickly see the space between objects and margins is great in these tools and I think it would be helpful in InDesign as well.

I know the gap tool has some of this functionality, but I'm specifically looking to recreate the toggle function like holding alt/opt in Adobe XD. Perhaps the gap tool could be modified to have a toggle function to display the measurements in a similar way.

  15. Eyedropper Tool and locked layers on top, theme tool

Hey, here is an idea; I have a layer with a photo and i have a layer with text on top. I lock the textlayer and select the eyedropper tool. I click on the photo and the colour is picked. Just like in illustrator...Wishfull thinking?

    Here is another golden idea:
I have a photo of an interior, mostly brown- somewhat green and overal grey, but there is an amazing pop of yellow because there is one small flower on a painting.
I select the Colour Theme Tool, I zoom in on the flower, and click on it.
    My brain is…

  16. Make style name indentations smaller

Lot's of unnecessary whitespace, requires wider than necessary panel widths on smaller screens.

  18. The KEYBOARD INCREMENTS part of Units and Increments preferences should application level not document level.

I have to go into this panel multiple times a day to change this from 2 to 1.
It should be application level, because it all relates to how much I expect text to move when using keyboard shortcuts. Or at least let me toggle it or override.
I think this is like if my custom keyboard shortcuts were document level and I had to set them back up every time I got a file made by someone else.

  19. swatches, color, and gradient panels like illustrator

Illustrator has the easiest to use and most powerful swatches, color, and gradient panels. Indesign would be a much better experience if it just used them. Just make them exactly the same.

  20. Improve indexing management

The GUI for Index item/topic management is painful to use. For instance, looking for an item means constantly having to scroll and expand/collapse items in the topic list, mainly because it is so small and secondly because it auto-collapses all the time. This UI should be in a resizable panel, a search field could quickly narrow choices.
