Vertical Alignment (top, middle, bottom) should be in Paragraph Formatting Controls (not hidden in CMD+B)
Vertical Alignment (top, middle, bottom) should be in Paragraph Formatting Controls (not hidden in CMD+B). This looks like a UI/UX grouping oversight. Thank you.

Put the Tab panel in the Text and Table section of the Window menu
The good old Tabs are still standing strong, and they can still do stuff Tables and Character or Paragraph settings can't, like tab leader dots, align on specific characters, fill to right tabs, etc.
But users are always looking for it under the Text and Table section in the Windows menu. I know, it might technically not behave completely like a regular window/panel. But it looks like a window, it moves like a window, so to most people it's a window...

InDesign Book (indb) icon
The icon for indd and indb are almost identical. when looking at a folder full of indesign docs it can be a bit difficult to quickly recognize the book file.
Would be nice if the book file was a different color.

High Res Tif's not rendering
High Res Tif's are not rendering when imported into an InDesign document. V15 and v16 rendering engines need to be updated.
When a High Res Tif is inserted and expanded (zoomed in) it does not render in High performance mode but looks like Fast screen mode.
I have verified this with Adobe InDesign Technical Support that this is not a user setting, but an engineering bug. It is not a resolution issue as the file looks fine when exported to a PDF.3 votes -
Add Text Macros like in InCopy
I create a lot of documents that have textual elements that are repetitive, like resumes that include a project description. When using MS Word, I use the Quick Parts functionality to capture that text and insert it whenever I need it.
My company is just beginning to explore the InDesign/InCopy workflow, and I saw that InCopy has a feature much like Quick Parts, called Text Macros. I could really use this if it was implemented in InDesign as well. I have used Autocorrect for similar functionality, but I have never tried it with more than a few words at a…

GPU preview keeps switching off
I generally make use of the GPU preview functionality built into InDesign, but recently I've noticed that files keep reverting to 'Preview on CPU'. I can't see any way of preventing this so I'm wondering if it's a bug'.
It's not a speed issue for me so much as a preview issue. Without GPU preview switched on, imported images look way too bright with particularly garish reds. I'm hoping it's a software thing rather than a graphics card on the way out. Any ideas anyone?

Icon looks too much like Premiere
Sometimes I accidentally click the wrong icon because the color of the two programs (that I both use) are close together...
Either changing the color or the logo (invert?) or both could help.
By the way, for the color blind the icons aren't very user friendly either.

Option to "Rasterize All Pages" in EPUB Export
My organization needs the ability to rasterize all pages in a document when exporting to a Fixed Layout EPUB.
InDesign EPUB export currently only supports rasterizing the first page or individual objects. Neither of these are sufficient for our needs. We publish graphic novels with complex, overlapping design elements, and we need the pages to look exactly as they do in regular PNG exports.
Our current workaround is to export PNG's from InDesign, and then use an additional software to assemble the images into an EPUB, which is incredibly time-consuming.

Ability to turn on/off Effects by checking box
Often times when using a preloaded Effect, such as drop shadow, gradient, etc., after creating you realize you don't like it or want to see what it looked like without the effect.
Rather than having to click back into the options panel to turn off the effect, it would be nice to be able to click the check mark and turn it off or on without going into the options menu.

Add Delete File option
We should be able to delete InDesign files. Not just set them to zero in a masking action, as is in the community forum. Then we lose access to files. Is this the only program, ever, in which the user cannot delete a file? Why? I am getting so many files left over from drafts, that it hinders my work. It will go on an on. At some point I will have to make a written log of each file I save, so I can mark them as which ones had a flaw, or wasn't needed for which reason, since…

Media Controller Preview
Something that shows the user what the controllers they are selecting for a video looks like. I change the options and try the Interactivity preview but nothing changes. Reading a description on the help page of what the items in the list mean isn't helping either. A better naming system and a visual preview would be way better here.

page sorter
When I'm working on a long document, it's very hard to find a specific page that I know the look of, but don't know the page number to. And trying to move pages around is also ver hard in the small Page panel.
It would be nice to be able to switch views in the main document window/panel to something that looks like the slide sorter on Microsoft Powerpoint. Where the thumbnails of each page isn't as small as they are on the Pages panel and there is a much larger screen real estate to sort through the…1 vote -
Select starting or ending color for alternating fills on table
Because of the simple way our tables are designed, if the last row in the table is white (instead of the alternating gray), it can be confusing and looks like this row is not part of the table. The content of our tables change a lot during development, so I swap alternating fills a lot. Is it possible to add a feature that says "start with a gray row" or "end with a gray row" when using alternating fill?

Option to hide fonts
One thing that I would love to see is a hide button that allows you to hide rarely used and/or system fonts from the main list. Having to scroll through a large list of often useless or irrelevant fonts, to find the ones that might work for your project tends to be frustrating and inefficient, especially in an application meant for text and document layout. Having an option to reduce the amount of visual clutter, would make for a better user experience and more effective workflows. The document is a quick mockup I made to show what it might look…

Accurate Color-Managed Print Preview in InDesign (and Adobe Apps)
I’ve had this feature in mind for years, but a busy schedule and work across different fields kept me from writing it down. This request is for Photoshop, and if Illustrator and InDesign are missing it as well, they should be updated to support it. In Photoshop’s Print dialog, under Color Management, the preview should match the selected printer, color handling settings, and printer profile. It should show an accurate on-screen preview of how the document or design will actually look once printed. The software should offer the closest possible simulation instead of the rough preview we have today.

When relinking files, prefer to show entire filename instead of path
When relinking files a dialogue oops up where the relinked file is selected. At the top of the dialogue the path to the file is shown. If there isn't enough space for the entire path, including filename, it is condensed by removing some text in the middle. If there is enough room to show the entire filename that should be shown. The path to the file is not as important as the name of the file, especially when relinking multiple files which are often in the same folder and I am already looking in that folder.

Interactivity, LIVE while using InDesign - Object States and Buttons that work at ANY time - ala AE 'Essential Graphics'
Interactivity, LIVE while using InDesign - Object States and Buttons that work at ANY time - ala AE 'Essential Graphics'.
There is the potential for InDesign to be a powerful QC authoring tool in our industry. We apply technical charts over the images which designers have created, like pitch/checker-decks. We need many different aspect ratios but repetition of the overlays and much of the info. We previously had over 90 layers the user would need to make visible or invisible - this is tedious and antithesis of good UX.
Essential Graphics in AfterEffects is somewhat close to the idea…1 vote -
I would like to see a slimmed down version of InDesign much like the photoshop
I would like a slimmed down version of InDesign. I have used the product from pagemaker thru freehand and InDesign CC. But I have a need only once a month. I have had to deal with people using MS publisher and that is the only other layout version by a major Software supplier and it is less than a satisfactory product. I am a computer consultant and seasoned product marketing manager and the need seems to be there. I would be glad to test such a product as I have had many years doing alpha/beta software. Please consider this request…

Make panel contextual menus accessible from Properties panel
I really love the new Properties menu - it does a great job of saving monitor real estate. It looks like the April 2019 update has fixed a few of the initial teething troubles but one thing still bugs me. If I want to access any of the contextual menu options, I can't do it via Properties. It means, unless I know every shortcut, or want to go through the menu bar I still need to keep panels such as Paragraph open all the time, just in case I need to get to one of those options.
