1. InCopy: Paragraph Panel Bugs When Placed in Top Menu Area

   I’ve noticed an issue with the Paragraph panel when it's placed in the top menu area of InCopy. The Space After option disappears and only becomes visible when the panel is pulled out or moved to the right-side menu.

   Additionally, the Drop Cap feature behaves oddly in the top menu. It restricts the character selection to a range of 6-150. However, once the panel is pulled out, I can select 1 character as expected.

   Please ensure the Paragraph panel functions consistently in all locations, similar to how it works in InDesign, where I haven’t encountered these issues.

   Also, I couldn’t find a dedicated bug forum for InCopy. When I tried to report the bug through InCopy, it redirected me to the InDesign forums instead.

2. Packaging with Include PDF (Print) selected doesn't properly render .ai images

   I have never been able to successfully use the "Include PDF" option when packaging files. I usually package, then export the pdf using my presets, then combine the files in the finder because the pdfs never come out correctly. It seems the problem is only with how it renders ai files. Color mode doesn't matter. The same thing happens whether or not I choose High Quality Print, Press Quality, PDFx1a, etc. Any solutions for this yet? It has been the case since the "Include PDF" feature was first released.  Example has exported pdf on the left, and package generated pdf on the right. Screenshots of preflights show the pdf exported using package files shows all .ai files are now low res vectors using exact same preset. Using Adobe Indesign 18.5 but have had this problem in every version since the "include pdf" feature was released.

3. resetting preferences doesn't work

   I've tried the Shift-Command-Option-Control key combination when launching InDesign, making sure to hit those keys immediately after launching. I've tried deleting all the preferences and caches files I know about, according to the search results I see online about such files for InDesign. I've tried restarting my computer, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign.

   But the preferences just WILL NOT RESET no matter what I do. Whaaaaa? When using the key combination, I don't get the "reset preferences" dialog. When deleting the files, I restart and find the same setup I had before trying to reset, when the setup (window/palette placement, etc) should be set back tot he default.

   Please help, Adobe!!! :(

4. Improve/Simplify Gradient and Gradient Feather tools

   Why is it so hard to create a simple Colour to Transparent gradient in InDesign? Why can’t we select 'None' in Gradients instead of having to revert to the Gradient Feather Tool to do the same job? And even then it’s difficult to change the colours because you can’t simply just drop an alternative colour swatch onto the Effect.

   Unlike Illustrator, in Gradient Feather, you cannot click on a selected colour in the slider to access your colour palette to change the colour. In fact, you cannot even edit the colour selection. 2 Tools, 2 ways of creating a gradient - Can we not just combine into the one tool? Or allow the Gradient to select ‘None' as a colour option? Currently it’s so convoluted and time consuming.

5. Software changes

   I use InDesign daily for my publication and when you keep changing things, it throws me off and wastes my time.
   I used to be able to print to save pages to the same folder, but now when I print to save a page, it takes me to whatever folder I most recently placed an image from. VERY frustrating. Also, I now have to scroll to get to my most recently used fonts rather than the drop down font list being automatically positioned at the top with most recently used fonts.
   I wish you would just STOP changing things! Every time there's an update, it takes me a several days to adjust to changes that I didn't need or want, which slows me down and reduces my productivity.
   If you MUST do updates, make them optional, or allow us to download them quarterly or twice a year so we don't have to constantly adapt to changes!

6. Assign new shortcut for hiding panels while inside a text box don't work (Mac 12.7.4 ID2023)

   I have a need to hide/show panels except the toolbox which is here:

   Product area : Views, Navigation > Show/Hide all panels except toolbox --- Default: Shift+Tab

   Of course this shortcut will not work when my cursor is inside a text box so I added a shortcut when the "Text" context is selected so it will work in this way too: Text: Ctrl+Tab

   While doing so I made sure [unassigned] is written.

   I now have 2 shortcuts for this actions but the only one that works is the default one and I don't understand why.

   I tried to remove the first option and keep only the one I assigned but it still won't work.

7. Accessible alt text for hyperlinks needs to be supported by scripting

   With InDesign scripting, it's possible to search for "searchTerms" from one column of a tab-delimited file, then set corresponding hyperlinks from another column. This means I can set hundreds of hyperlinks in just a few minutes. However, it remains impossible to set the hyperlink's alt text with a script — that function isn't scriptable. So either I ignore this important accessibility requirement (not an option), or I still have to manually edit each hyperlink, one at a time, wasting many hours and introducing the possibility of errors on each one.

   For example, a document contains hundreds of product numbers or reference numbers, and each one needs to link to a URL. The numbers themselves aren't sufficient to describe what the links lead to; they need alt text. I have a spreadsheet that lists these numbers, their corresponding URLs and their alt text descriptions. I can set the hyperlinks using a script and the spreadsheet, but I can't set the alt text.

8. Verknüpfungen werden nach jeder Aktivität neu aufgebaut // InDesign 17.0 x64 // running on Win 10 Pro

   Aktuell laden sich die verknüpften Bilder nach jedem Doing in InDesign (Also egal was ich mache, Textverschieben, von einem anderen Programm zurück zu InDesign wechsle oder was auch immer, 1 Sache mache ich und schon laden die ganzen Verknüpfungen neu. In den alten Versionen lief das ohne Probleme. Ich konnte ohne Störungen arbeiten. Dies scheint ein BUG zu sein, denn das macht das Arbeiten mit dem neuen InDesign unmöglich. Ich kann nicht jede Sekunde warten, bis sich der Screen neu aufgebaut hat und ich weiterarbeiten kann. Die Bilder komplett auszugrauen ist auch keine Option, da es für unsere Gestaltung wichtig ist, die eingebauten Bilder sehen zu können.

   Gibt es hier evtl. eine Lösung die ich nicht kenne?
   Falls und wenn leider nicht, bitte schickt hier ein ganz schnelles Update nach. In der täglichen Arbeit so nicht nutzbar.

   Bonjour, après de longues recherches, je remarque qu'il n'y a aucune possibilité d'appliquer des gabarits selon des règles (présence de texte, grep, présence d'image, pourcentage du bloc de texte rempli, présence d'un style, etc.) à des pages spécifiques (à la première/dernière page, entre certaines pages, fonctionnement similaire au grep, etc.). On pourrait réaliser cela en donnant plusieurs gabarits à une page et donner des règles pour choisir lequel appliquer (avec une option pour choisir les pages de manière dynamique).
   Pour ma part, je cherche désespérément un moyen dynamique et automatisé de cacher le folio/numéro de page lorsque que c'est une page vide (sans texte) ou quasi vide. C'est le cas des pages avant les chapitres (1 ou 2 pages). Ce pourrait être l'une des nombreuses application de cette fonctionnalité

10. Windows 15.0.3 broke Book TOC when exporting to EPUB; works in 15.0.2

    Windows 10 15.0.3 broke Book TOC when exporting to EPUB; works in 15.0.2

    Not only did 15.0.3 eliminate Book > Export to EPUB option of EPUB Version 2.0.1, it changed the Table of Contents to include duplicate entries linking to every PAGE within a chapter. The Book.epub file had a separate .xhtml file for every page in the book, rather than one .xhtml file per chapter and one TOC entry per chapter. This makes the Table of Contents useless.

    Reverting InDesign back to 15.0.2 fixes the problem.

11. Bloc de texte

    Ma version de InDesign : 18.0 x64

    Ce n'est pas une idée mais je rencontre un bogue. La question est : comment régler ce bogue ?
    Voici la situation :
    1) je crée un bloc de texte. Je peux taper un texte à l'intérieur.
    2) J'appuie sur la touche ESC pour sélectionner le bloc
    3) Le bloc crée alors automatiquement un retrait du texte à l'intérieur. Ce retrait, je l'avais créé auparavant mais il semble qu'il se soit bloqué et que maintenant, tout nouveau bloc de texte se crée avec ce retrait de texte.
    4) J'ouvre Objet/Option de bloc de texte / Général. Je constate effectivement que les "marges à l'intérieur du bloc" sont fixées à 2. Je les remets à zéro.
    5) Je vérifie que le "dimensionnement automatique" est désactivé.
    6) Mon bloc est maintenant OK. Mais, quoi que je fasse, tout nouveau bloc créé se présentera de nouveau avec des marges à l'intérieur du bloc réglées à 2 au lieu de zéro. J'ai fermé InDesign pour le ré-ouvrir : cela ne change rien !

12. InDesign-window "Missing Links in document" does not appear when Microsoft DFS-Links not available

    SITUATION
    We migrated our old Active Directory "OldAD.ads" to a complete new one "NewAD.ads"
    We use InDesign CC2019 (latest Version)

    All out file-shares are mounted on client computers with Microsoft DFS-Links.
    - Old DFS-Link: \OldAD\DFS\OldShare - The DFS-Links points to a share on our old fileserver: \OldFileServer.OldAD.ads\Share_OLD
    All shares on the old fileserver are closed, so the DFS-Links have no destination but are still "available".

    • New DFS-Link: \NewAD\DFS\NewShare - The DFS-Links points to a share on our new fileserver: \NewFileServer.NewAD.ads\Share_NEW

    Both fileservers hold "their" (Active Directory based) DFS-structure.

    Of course, all users open their files on the new fileserver, shares are mounted via the new DFS-structure.

    THE REAL STRANGE ERROR
    As long as the old fileserver and old Domaincontroller are up, InDesign acts as expected: We open an old document, the windows "missing links in document" comes up, we fix the broken links, the document opens, everything is fine.

    BUT when I shut down the fileserver and the last domaincontroller, the following happens: We open an old document (containing links to documents, that were on shares mounted via the old DFS on our old fileserver), InDesign freezes and the mouse pointer circles. I waited up to 30 minutes, nothing happened. And now comes the really strange thing: When I unplug the network cable (no joke), the "missing links in document"-windows comes to front and I can fix the broken links after plugging in the cable again.
    When I turn on the old fileserver and domaincontroller again, everything works fine again.

    I can reproduce this error on all our 4 InDesign-workstations. The error only appears when the broken path contains a DFS-Link and the link is not available any more - no matter if the "real" share behind the link is available or not.
    The InDesign option "Ignore missing links when opening a document" does not affect the error, it happens when the option is set or not.

    SITUATION

13. 3 Bugs one Update > Edge smoothing doesnt work correctly > Effects previews and use doesent work correctly and shredderesd text >

    After the last update, the following things no longer work properly:
    1. CC Libraries
    (Crashes and shows either a reduced or enlarged section of the library and is no longer usable. Only a program restart helps ... short term! see screenshot 1. the bug was already in Illustrator!)

(see screenshot 2) 2.2 Frames with effects and in which images are loaded whose outer edges are 100 percent transparent, form fine gray outer lines on the outer edges where there are none!

    In addition, as an addition bugs in Íllustrator with 3D extrusions and invited images on it! Bugs with Adobe RAW: Zoom Scollrad works no longer or only stuttery!

       Funktioniert seit geraumer Zeit nicht mehr ordnungsgemäß!
       2.1. Vollständig abgedeckte Flächen, Linien und Grafiken haben durch die Kantenglättung auf einmal ein leichte Kontur und werden minimal sichtbar (Obwohl diese eigentlich unsichtbar und im Druck nicht sichtbar wären) oder bilden minimal weiche Kanten, oder Ecken wo keine sind! 14. Stripped down workspace when opening document

    1. Using 17.1 x64 on a Windows 10 machine
    2. When InDesign is closed, if I double click on a file to open it, the program opens with a minimal workspace; no panels, no toolbar at the top of the screen, nothing. If I open the program first, and then open a file (either through the file menu, or by doubleclicking on the icon in File Explorer, the program opens with my correct workspace.
    3. Opening the program, no matter how I access it, should open with my selected workspace.
    4. It opens without any panels, toolbars or the option to change to a different workspace.
    5. I have provided a screen shot of the screen after opening a file by double-clicking, and another one with my normal workspace after opening a different file using the file menu.

15. Eliminate Generating PDF dialog box

    I am constantly bothered by the Generating PDF dialog box for two reasons:
    First, it doesn't play well with my dual-screen setup. If I have InDesign on one monitor, the dialog box often shows up on the othe rmonitor, blocking whatever applications or windows I am working on outside of InDesign. Then I must manually drag it over to the InDesign monitor to get it out of the way. Come on Adobe! Many users have multiple monitors. Your apps should remember the locations of all dialog boxes, windows, and panels and not arbitrarily show up in random places.
    Second, and more importantly, there is NO reason for this dialog box to appear at all.
    If I select multiple files in an InDesign book panel, then choose Export Book to PDF, the dialog box appears for the duration of the export.
    But if I simply open a file and chose File > Export, the export happens as a background task as it should, allowing me to continue working on other files in InDesign.
    Why isn't background exporting the default? At the very least, please make it an Adobe PDF Preset option? 
    BTW, I'm using the latest version of InDesign (18.5), but this problem has always been present in all versions over the past decade.

16. Freeze after using default New Hyperlink to URL

    (I didn't see a category for Freeze. I figure Crash is pretty close.)

    In InDesign 15.0.3 on Windows 10:

    I had just finished inserting a hyperlink by selecting Chess.com, bringing up the New Hyperlink panel (with the 'To URL' option up), and pressing Enter.
    After waiting 15 minutes, it was still hung.
    It was the only app running.
    When I right-clicked on the InDesign icon on the taskbar and clicked 'Close window', a dialog box popped up saying, "Save changes to the Adobe InDesign document "16 - Glossary.indd" before closing?
    I clicked 'Yes'.
    It closed that dialog box and popped up with an alert saying, "Cannot save "16 - Glossary.indd".
    Repeated twice. Same results.
    Then I clicked 'No'.
    It closed out the document, then the "Save changes box popped up again."
    When I clicked 'Yes' there, InDesign closed down.

    When I launched InDesign again, it pretended it had loaded my standard workspace ("David's"), but hadn't. It didn't load it until I chose Windows > Workspace > Reset David's.

    The problem did not reproduce.

    (I didn't see a category for Freeze. I figure Crash is pretty close.)

    In InDesign 15.0.3 on Windows 10:

    We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding: Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

    We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2021(v16.0.0.77) as it is more robust and contains a lot of bug fixes.

17. Generic check mark reappears in PDF check box after exporting to Acrobat Pro

    InDesign 14.0.2 and Acrobat Continuous 2019.10.20099

    This issue is about the behavior and appearance of interactive check boxes in documents that have been exported to Interactive PDFs.

    There is a difference in the way that check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear versus those created in Acrobat Pro. The Acrobat Pro Forms preferences are involved in this difference.

    When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

    When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign. When you tab to or select another check box, or when you save the selection in the PDF, the appearance of the check box reverts to a default generic check mark.

    When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is not selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

    When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign and remains as such.

    This degrades the purpose of using the highlighted fields, which is to call attention to fields that need to be filled.

    When the check boxes are created in Acrobat, it makes no difference in appearance or behavior if the “Show border hover color for fields” is selected or not. They always appear as the checkbox style you have chosen to use. They do not revert to a generic check mark.

    This is the way that custom check boxes created in InDesign should behave. Thus, they would allow the use of a highlighted field without the appearance of the “selected” custom graphic changing to an unwanted generic graphic.

18. Switching between Cross Reference "Link To" types causes Crash

    1. New Hyperlink Destination: saved a Text Anchor (paragraph includes a graphic so I don't want to use the Cross Reference > Link To Paragraph option in this instance.)
    2. Cross-References palette hamburger
    3. Insert Cross-Reference...
    4. Change Link To from Paragraph to Text Anchor and it crashes. (I want to use Cross Reference instead of Hyperlink so it will include dynamic page number.)

    See attached crash reports and screenshots (you'll know which goes with which by time indicated in file names).

    This is super frustrating and is hindering the project's progress. Please fix/stabilize soon.

19. freezing in Indesign version 16.2.1

    Hi all

    I was working on a very important file yesterday morning using Indesign version 16.2.1 on PC window 10 and was linking images to the file when my indesign just froze. I've been having issues since where it takes for ever if at all to open any indesign file. At one stage it didn't recover my file so a message came up to ask if I wanted to recovery it....what ever option I chose I was left with Indesign unable to still function properly. (I had also renamed files incase the file was corrupt) Also noticed when force quiting the program using "Task Manager" that Adobe Notification Client - says suspended, so we don't get a crash report window) and also it always says indesign is not responding. Found in a forum about clearing the " Indesign Recovery" File area. This doesn't seem tohave helped. I also tried installing an older indesign version to see if it would not remember any setting/issues but it did the same thing.....Can you please advise what I can do to solve this as I cannot use Idesign at all currently.

20. There is a chance you close your file without knowing you have not saved it!

    It is very simple, just follow the steps below:

    1. Create a new file.

    2. Type a letter (lets say "A" for example) and save your file.

    3. Change the letter to "B" [Notice the "*" beside the file name and the "Save" Option being enabled in the file menu, since the file has been changed]

    4. Save the file again. ["Save" command and "*" disappear]

    5. Now, undo the last change (Back to "A") and save.

    6. Now if you redo the change, you will have "B" in the screen, Notice that the file has changed since your last save, but you neither see the "* nor have "Save" command enabled.

    InDesign simply acts like you have saved the file, and it is current, you may easily close your file and lose your progress. This may not be important for small changes but could be a disaster if the number of steps taken are high, which has happened to me once.

    It is very simple, just follow the steps below:
