1. Embedding video and publishing online

   I tried to embed four small videos (first at HD and then at SD) but the online publishing kept coming up with a error #16 message, when I tried to do this. After trial and error, I only managed to upload three videos into the Annual Report I had put together - not ideal at all.

   This would imply that there IS a limitation in terms of file size when publishing online. The overall size of the InDesign file was 23,560 KB.

   The three videos at SD were: 73,907 KB, 156,488 KB, 48,701 KB. The additional SD video that I wanted to include but couldn't was 492,402 KB.

   This is such a shame as the ability to embed video using the online publishing option is such a game changer.

2. InDesign Review feature 'Draw' out of alignment in web vs app

   Hello, when i draw an annotation on the InDesign web review feature, it shows up outside of the alignment in the app. This makes the tool unusable for me with clients or as a viable option to suggest to our designers.

3. copy

   Holding down "option" on the keyboard and then dragging a graphic or text box to copy and paste where you'd like it to go no longer works. The cursor changes as if it's going to copy/paste, however, it will just drag the original graphic/text box without copying it. I have to physically hit cmd + c and cmd + v and then it will paste wherever it wants to go in the document to get something to copy and paste. This is really frustrating when trying to design documents with a lot of the same elements in different formats. This has been an issue since updating to InDesign 2021 (16.1)

4. Controller skin for embedded video

   I've been using InDesign to create PDF publications with embedded videos. When I created them in earlier versions of InDesign there was an option in the Interactive/Media window to choose a controller skin. I'm up to date with InDesign/CC and this has disappeared. The videos still exist in the exported PDF, but there is no obvious way for the end user to play/pause/rewind the video. This is an essential feature for the work I do. What now?

   The Controller Skins were based on Flash. Now that Flash is EOL, those skins are no longer supported and hence have been removed from the Media panel.

5. InCopy: Paragraph Panel Bugs When Placed in Top Menu Area

   I’ve noticed an issue with the Paragraph panel when it's placed in the top menu area of InCopy. The Space After option disappears and only becomes visible when the panel is pulled out or moved to the right-side menu.

   Additionally, the Drop Cap feature behaves oddly in the top menu. It restricts the character selection to a range of 6-150. However, once the panel is pulled out, I can select 1 character as expected.

   Please ensure the Paragraph panel functions consistently in all locations, similar to how it works in InDesign, where I haven’t encountered these issues.

   Also, I couldn’t find a dedicated bug forum for InCopy. When I tried to report the bug through InCopy, it redirected me to the InDesign forums instead.

6. IOS picking up URL in plain Text

   Creating a QR using the "Plain Text" option, to generate a note when scanned. There are a few URL's within the plain text. Android phones are picking up the QR code as intended, opening a note on their phone. However, iPhones are picking up the first URL in the plain text, despite it being 1/3 of the way down the text. It doesn't matter what the URL is. Third party cameras and Android cameras work fine, iOS cameras don't.

   InDesign 14.0.2 and Acrobat Continuous 2019.10.20099

   This issue is about the behavior and appearance of interactive check boxes in documents that have been exported to Interactive PDFs.

   There is a difference in the way that check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear versus those created in Acrobat Pro. The Acrobat Pro Forms preferences are involved in this difference.

   When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

   When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign. When you tab to or select another check box, or when you save the selection in the PDF, the appearance of the check box reverts to a default generic check mark.

   When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is not selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

   When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign and remains as such.

   This degrades the purpose of using the highlighted fields, which is to call attention to fields that need to be filled.

   When the check boxes are created in Acrobat, it makes no difference in appearance or behavior if the “Show border hover color for fields” is selected or not. They always appear as the checkbox style you have chosen to use. They do not revert to a generic check mark.

   This is the way that custom check boxes created in InDesign should behave. Thus, they would allow the use of a highlighted field without the appearance of the “selected” custom graphic changing to an unwanted generic graphic.

8. text wrap violates indented text next to it

   [InDesign 16.2.1 x63/Windows 10 Enterprise ]
   When text with bullets sits next to a (separate) text frame that has a wrap applied, the text after the bullet doesn't align correctly.
   I tried to upload a file (both by dragging or clicking) and neither option allows me to attach the file. "The following file type [filename.indd] is not supported."
   An earlier bug report for the same problem had a response indicating that the issue has been fixed. It has not been fixed.
   Fortunately, you can move the tab marker on the affected lines to override the bug, but that's really not a solution.

9. “Fit frame to content” no longer works in InDesign 21.1

   Version:
   Adobe InDesign 21.1 (macOS)

   Steps to reproduce:
   1. Open any document in InDesign 21.1
   2. Select a text frame or an image frame
   3. Press Option + Command + C (Fit Frame to Content)

   Expected result:
   The selected frame resizes to fit its content.

   Actual result:
   Nothing happens. The shortcut does not execute.
   The command is still listed in Keyboard Shortcuts and cannot be removed.
   Double-clicking the bottom-center resize handle still works.

   Notes:
   This is a regression from previous InDesign versions.
   The issue affects both text frames and image frames.

10. Right-to-left paragraph orientation causes problems

    Hello and thanks in advance to the respondents.
    For several months now I have been suffering from a very annoying problem in InDesign and I have not been able to find a solution.
    When I set the writing direction from right to left (using the edit menu - right to left), the arrow keys on the right and left keyboard stop responding as they should, and instead of each click the cursor moves one character to the right or left, clicking on them jumps the cursor to the beginning or end of the line.
    The problem only exists when I select the "Visual" option in the above menu.
    Of course, in my Adobe Creative settings, English is set to support Hebrew, and I also noticed that I am opening a text window of the Middle East type, and in the paragraph settings itself, the direction is set from right to left.

11. Stripes in objects that have transparency

    Dear Indesign community,

    I have installed the latest version of Indesign and always have these stripes in those objects that have transparency. The level of transparency does not matter. I set the screen display performance to the highest quality. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled Indesign, but nothing has changed.These stripes can no longer be seen in the exported PDF.I use Windows 11, 64 bit, an Asus G814JV laptop with a 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13980HX 2.20 GHz processor. 32GB RAM. And an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card. Indesign version 19.0
    I don't have the option to turn GPU performance on or off in the InDesign defaults with Windows 11.
    GPU performance does not appear in the list of default settings at all. Only Display performance and then Appearance of Black appear.

12. Verknüpfungen werden nach jeder Aktivität neu aufgebaut // InDesign 17.0 x64 // running on Win 10 Pro

    Aktuell laden sich die verknüpften Bilder nach jedem Doing in InDesign (Also egal was ich mache, Textverschieben, von einem anderen Programm zurück zu InDesign wechsle oder was auch immer, 1 Sache mache ich und schon laden die ganzen Verknüpfungen neu. In den alten Versionen lief das ohne Probleme. Ich konnte ohne Störungen arbeiten. Dies scheint ein BUG zu sein, denn das macht das Arbeiten mit dem neuen InDesign unmöglich. Ich kann nicht jede Sekunde warten, bis sich der Screen neu aufgebaut hat und ich weiterarbeiten kann. Die Bilder komplett auszugrauen ist auch keine Option, da es für unsere Gestaltung wichtig ist, die eingebauten Bilder sehen zu können.

    Gibt es hier evtl. eine Lösung die ich nicht kenne?
    Falls und wenn leider nicht, bitte schickt hier ein ganz schnelles Update nach. In der täglichen Arbeit so nicht nutzbar.

13. Auto-fit label confusing

    The "Auto-fit" option to keep an image's fitting method and cropping position active (as far as possible) while scaling the frame, can be confusing.

    Since the implementation of it, many users are not aware of what it does, because they assume it DOES something (make it fit automatically, right now) in stead of that it will RETAIN its current crop and fit. Especially in Dutch, where it is translated as "Make it fit", which is even more misleading.

    So when explaining what it actually does to many users (as a trainer, presenter) they always sigh...

    Please use a more clarifying label, like "Keep current fit or crop" or "Retain fitting method" ("Houd passend" in Dutch) to let more users know what it does precisely.

14. Be able to anchor already created text box

    Use Case Scenario: Create text box, use text box. Realize it'd be nice to anchor already created text box to another text box/object/???.
    Current workflow: copy text, delete text box, find anchor point, insert anchor point, adjust anchor point, create anchored text box, copy text box, further adjust text box.
    Desired workflow: right click on text box/text -> select "anchor to [text/object/???]", anchor to [text/object/???], adjust anchor point settings. No need to redo entire content.

    Why can't this be done? It's always an option for non-text box content boxes/objects, correct? So why can't text box boxes also considered content boxes? It's just a box, yes? Allow box to anchor to ???.

15. AI Generated Alt Text Overriding Manual Alt Text

    I have Generative AI disabled on my Mac and had manually entered alt-text on 2 images. Another user in my organisation, who had not disabled it, made some minor text amends on my file and my atl-text was overwritten.

    I feel that any image that already has alt-text manually added should not be altered by this feature.

    Also it would be good that when the feature is turned on it could have an option to only affect images added to the Articles Panel as that is the most common way of setting the tag order.

    When pasting a group of layers from one document to another it would be great of InDesign would honor the sort order when the layers land in the receiving document. Also if the layer colors can stay the same.

    I often paste between documents and it is not fun having the manual sort the layers. How about a sort selected layer by "X' as an option. Typically I number these direct mail layers in numerical order.

    This is very important with direct mail clients with variable data. The printers prefer all versions for the different branch offices in a 2-page front and back INDD file for both digital and traditional printing as well.

17. Alignment of text box ignores anchored objects

    When I have an anchored object (lets say an image) hanging at the bottom of the text box, aligning the text to the bottom of the text box will align the text only, and cuts off the image at the bottom.
    I imagine this also happens to images at the top of the text box, when aligning to the top.
    I think that by design, anchired objects should be calculated as part of the text box's content, and should be aligned to the bottom, as text would.
    If not, it should at least be an option to choose from.

    I think that by design, anchired objects should be calculated as part of the text box's content, and should be aligned to the bottom, as text would.
    If not, it should at least be an option to choose from.

18. Ability to Add more than One Page at a Time

    I have a "large" technical textbook, in my case 20 chapters and at least 22 indd files, if I wnt to add a page or two to an existing chapter, each time I click the new page icon, it takes a while for InDesign to reassess page and section numbers. Ten clicks of "new page later", it rather timeconsuming.

    How about an option, similar to adding rows/columns to a table, that allows you to specifiy how many pages you would like to add?

    At the moment, adding 10 pages means watching it update section numbers 10 times.

    You can use the ‘Insert Pages…’ option from the Pages panel flyout menu to add many pages at once. You can also specify where you want to add those pages.

19. Placing MS Word documents

    Hi,

    I am designing a Journal in InDesign with over 50 articles. All the articles are done with MS Word with footnotes etc. After placing about 45 articles I found that in some placed articles the fonts have changed in certain pragraphs. Since I noticed this at the tail end, I did some experiments and placed the next article with the option "Redefine InDesign style" selected and the exact fonts were placed. But to my surprise there are 90 errors in the already placed 45 articles.

    How come InDesign change the structure of the previous 45 articles when I am placing the 46th Article?

    How can I avoid this?

20. ePub

    I create very simple ePubs in Indesign CC 2018. When I export them as ePub version 3 they print perfectly from Adobe Digital Editions on a Mac but print as blank pages or spool to postscript indefinitely from Adobe Digital Editions, on a PC, in Windows. When exported in the older version ePub 2.01 they work and print fine on both Mac and Windows. So my question is: why is ePub version 3 an option from Indesign when it isn't fully supported in Adobe Digital Editions on the Windows platform most popular with the user base? Is there a solution/workaround other than reverting to version 2.01?
