1. Bug: Print Thumbnails adds unwanted pagenumbers and numbers overlap pages

   Hi! When choosing Print & printer Adobe PDF & Thumbnails, the output file has page numbers which I do not want. There is no option to disable those.

   Also the page numbers are mislocated: they overlap the pages instead of being tidely above/under each page.

2. Cannot remove hyperlink from image

   For some reason InDesign has no option to remove hyperlink from an image. It took me hours to search for solution until I gave up and deleted the image and recreated it with a new hyperlink. This is pathetic and needs to change. When you right click an image, we should see "Hyperlink" > "Remove Link". This is so basic, its really upsetting to have to post this here.

3. InDesign 14.02 NOT PRINTING

   Adobe InDesign 14.02

   Only prints a solid line at the top of the page.
   No text, diagrams, etc being printed.
   When I try exporting to pdf, views OK on screen, but only blank pages will print.

   (Also, when I tried reverting to previous version, got message saying could not be done because file too complex or similar. Will try this option again, because I have GOT TO PRINT my files

   Deleting all files spooled in the C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS folder and reinstalling the print driver helped resolve the issue.

4. Placing MS Word documents

   Hi,

   I am designing a Journal in InDesign with over 50 articles. All the articles are done with MS Word with footnotes etc. After placing about 45 articles I found that in some placed articles the fonts have changed in certain pragraphs. Since I noticed this at the tail end, I did some experiments and placed the next article with the option "Redefine InDesign style" selected and the exact fonts were placed. But to my surprise there are 90 errors in the already placed 45 articles.

   How come InDesign change the structure of the previous 45 articles when I am placing the 46th Article?

   How can I avoid this?

5. provide tool to manage external cross-references

   I am responsible for maintaining and updating a long manual with many cross-references. Most of these cross-references are internal to the book collection, but a significant minority reference specific sections in other books that make up the manual or specific sections in other reference documents external to my organization. The ability to use the cross-reference tools to manage internal cross-references is a godsend. Manually tracking external cross-references, however, is extremely tedious and mistake-prone. Obviously it would not be possible to provide hyperlinks or automatic updating for external cross-references. However, I would still like a way to keep track of them in InDesign.

   I would love for InDesign to provide the following workflow for managing external cross-references:
   1. Provide a way to mark text strings as external cross-references. This could either be within the existing Insert Cross-Reference tool or a separate new tool. Ideally there would be an option to add metadata, such as the title and edition of the external document being referenced.
   2. Provide a way to export an external cross-reference report as .CSV or other table format. This table would list each text string marked as an external cross reference, along with the page number where it appears in the InDesign document and any other metadata defined for that record.
   3. Provide an option to toggle on and off highlighting of text marked as external cross references in InDesign.

6. Export to Flat psd --- not flat

   Export As..., option 'Flat image' does not result in an actual flat image. the result is a layer in Photoshop, instead of a Background / flat image.
   Why is this important? Because in InDesign, only really flat grayscales can be given a color. Unfortunately, the result of the Ai export has to be flattened in Photoshop before it can be used to color it in InDesign.

   InDesign would benefit from an option that allows Apply Next Style (or a Paragraph Style setting) to automatically detect the final paragraph in a contiguous sequence and then apply an alternate “last paragraph” style. This is especially useful for designs where a repeated list uses a separator — for example, in a “Materials and Tools” box where each item has a rule below, but the final item should appear without the rule.

   At present, this requires manually applying a separate “last item” style to the final paragraph every time such a box is created. Giving InDesign the ability to recognise the final paragraph and switch to a defined alternate style would greatly reduce manual intervention, avoid errors in long documents, and streamline book production workflows.

8. AI Generated Alt Text Overriding Manual Alt Text

   I have Generative AI disabled on my Mac and had manually entered alt-text on 2 images. Another user in my organisation, who had not disabled it, made some minor text amends on my file and my atl-text was overwritten.

   I feel that any image that already has alt-text manually added should not be altered by this feature.

   Also it would be good that when the feature is turned on it could have an option to only affect images added to the Articles Panel as that is the most common way of setting the tag order.

9. Auto-fit label confusing

   The "Auto-fit" option to keep an image's fitting method and cropping position active (as far as possible) while scaling the frame, can be confusing.

   Since the implementation of it, many users are not aware of what it does, because they assume it DOES something (make it fit automatically, right now) in stead of that it will RETAIN its current crop and fit. Especially in Dutch, where it is translated as "Make it fit", which is even more misleading.

   So when explaining what it actually does to many users (as a trainer, presenter) they always sigh...

   Please use a more clarifying label, like "Keep current fit or crop" or "Retain fitting method" ("Houd passend" in Dutch) to let more users know what it does precisely.

10. Embedding video and publishing online

    I tried to embed four small videos (first at HD and then at SD) but the online publishing kept coming up with a error #16 message, when I tried to do this. After trial and error, I only managed to upload three videos into the Annual Report I had put together - not ideal at all.

    This would imply that there IS a limitation in terms of file size when publishing online. The overall size of the InDesign file was 23,560 KB.

    The three videos at SD were: 73,907 KB, 156,488 KB, 48,701 KB. The additional SD video that I wanted to include but couldn't was 492,402 KB.

    This is such a shame as the ability to embed video using the online publishing option is such a game changer.

11. Issues with document previewing since installing InDesign update (16.2.1)

    Hi, I'm operating a late 2013 27-inch iMac with 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5 processor. Currently running MacOS Mojave 10.14.6

    Since installing the latest InDesign update (16.2.1) I've experienced various document preview issues:
    - images that are contained within circular or other non straight-edged image boxes are not displaying at all.
    - I get either a black box displaying or no box/frame at all. The frame is there because when I hit Select All I can see it but the image simply won't display at all, whatever the Appearance setting is on.
    - However, if I create a JPEG or PDF from the document, the image appears in the PDF or JPEG OK.
    - Also issues with items displaying properly (or at all) when moving between zoom-in/zoom-out settings.

    After posting my experiences on an Adobe User forum I was advised to uncheck the GPU Preview option in InDesign Preferences panel and this has resolved the problems.

12. Windows 15.0.3 broke Book TOC when exporting to EPUB; works in 15.0.2

    Windows 10 15.0.3 broke Book TOC when exporting to EPUB; works in 15.0.2

    Not only did 15.0.3 eliminate Book > Export to EPUB option of EPUB Version 2.0.1, it changed the Table of Contents to include duplicate entries linking to every PAGE within a chapter. The Book.epub file had a separate .xhtml file for every page in the book, rather than one .xhtml file per chapter and one TOC entry per chapter. This makes the Table of Contents useless.

    Reverting InDesign back to 15.0.2 fixes the problem.

13. pages panel collapses

    My document has many pages, 50 or more. When I open the document, the pages panel, more often than not, is completely collapsed, and I have to manually resize it back so that I can see all of the pages.
    I have the latest version of ID. I have been using versions of ID since 2001, and I never had this problem until I purchased this one. It makes me feel regret for buying it, I can tell you. It might seem like a small thing, but believe me it is annoying.
    I know ID inside and out, but nothing fixes this problem. I have tried every panel option, but nothing works. Please help.

    Content-Aware Fit-Problem with INDD CC2019, 14.0.1
    I had images to link again after receiving a layout from a customer. In some cases, I had massive changes, different sections of images, with the new option activated. I'm not shure about the reason, but if I don't activate the automatic fit, the picture sections are correct in the same layout with the same images.

15. Be able to anchor already created text box

    Use Case Scenario: Create text box, use text box. Realize it'd be nice to anchor already created text box to another text box/object/???.
    Current workflow: copy text, delete text box, find anchor point, insert anchor point, adjust anchor point, create anchored text box, copy text box, further adjust text box.
    Desired workflow: right click on text box/text -> select "anchor to [text/object/???]", anchor to [text/object/???], adjust anchor point settings. No need to redo entire content.

    Why can't this be done? It's always an option for non-text box content boxes/objects, correct? So why can't text box boxes also considered content boxes? It's just a box, yes? Allow box to anchor to ???.

    InDesign 14.0.2 and Acrobat Continuous 2019.10.20099

    This issue is about the behavior and appearance of interactive check boxes in documents that have been exported to Interactive PDFs.

    There is a difference in the way that check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear versus those created in Acrobat Pro. The Acrobat Pro Forms preferences are involved in this difference.

    When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

    When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign. When you tab to or select another check box, or when you save the selection in the PDF, the appearance of the check box reverts to a default generic check mark.

    When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is not selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

    When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign and remains as such.

    This degrades the purpose of using the highlighted fields, which is to call attention to fields that need to be filled.

    When the check boxes are created in Acrobat, it makes no difference in appearance or behavior if the “Show border hover color for fields” is selected or not. They always appear as the checkbox style you have chosen to use. They do not revert to a generic check mark.

    This is the way that custom check boxes created in InDesign should behave. Thus, they would allow the use of a highlighted field without the appearance of the “selected” custom graphic changing to an unwanted generic graphic.

17. Dictionaries, specifically German

    The german dictionary in ID is weird. Many common german words it would mark as unknown, but the suggestions show a lot of rarely used ones. Well, when adding words to the dictionary, it can be confusing for the grammar checker to distinguish between verbs, adjectives and nouns if there is no definition for the word type. So, at least for German, but perhaps generally, give the user the option to define if the added word is a noun, adjective or verb.

    Example for confusion: "brücken". This is a verb ("brücken" -> to bridge), but also the plural of "Brücke" (bridge), but with lowercase. The grammar checker would suggest to capitalize the word when it's meant to be a verb. I would then define it once as verb in lowercase and once as noun with capital letter in the dictionary.

    The german dictionary in ID is weird. Many common german words it would mark as unknown, but the suggestions show a lot of rarely used ones. 18. rendering not as per illustrator

       Adobe InDesign 21.1

    2. Steps to reproduce the issues
       When placing an artwork (from Illustrator via AI file) into InDesign, artwork appears to be distorted and different from the actual artwork. All settings are in place, same as before, InDesign is the latest version. Yet regardless what I do, the artwork is either

    3. Distorted

    4. Include multiple layers of the old, WIP and new, all in 1 view

    5. When exported, the render does not resolve itself, resulting in an incorrect artwork in the PDF

    6. Expected result
       Artwork placed is rendered as per the artwork.

19. Endnote numbers superscripted overriden after Epub Export

    After importing a document with the non-static text endnotes option, I applied a superscript character style to the endnote numbers and when I export to ePub 3.0 the superscripting disappears. The numbers references in the text are still superscripted as they should be, but the superscripting on the numbers before each endnote at the end of document has been dropped. For some reason Epub Export overrides the applied character style.

20. Audio File sounds from one page to another with no interruption when turning pages

    I would like that the audio file that I place in one page sounds from that page to another with no interruption when turning pages, I publish sheet music, I need audio file sounding while people reads the sheet music.
    We place the audio file in the first page and I need an option that offer me from which page to which page must the audio file sound ?
    Do I explain myself ?? Thank you
