1. Continuous issues with 21.1 on Windows 11 - Won't Open/Crashing

   Since updating to 21.1 (2026), I have to repair the Visual C++ Redistributables, restart, and then reset preferences with Shift+Ctrl+Alt just to get InDesign to open. Error OXC0000142. I have done this numerous times, and each week, I have to do it again.

   It also has crashed my (and others on our team) computers which makes them boot into the BIOS to a Support Repair screen.

   21.1 is near unusable at this point.

2. CC library saying signed out but cloud is signed in

   The CC library panel in indesign 2018 13.1 x64 on Windows 8 says i'm signed out of creative cloud and cant access my libraries but i'm signed in.

   Only fix I can find atm is to forcefully sign out then back in but it resets everytime I shut down my computer and I dont want to keep doing that just to access my library.

3. Version 13.1

   Version 13.1 crashes several times a day. For various reasons, ex. try to drag and drop pictures from finder into indesign.

   We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

   We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

4. Search box when updating link

   When I want to update a link and press the link button, an "open/find file-window" is opened. I then often want to search or the file using the file name, but when I press the search box in the upper right hand corner this box is suddenly shrunk to a much smaller size which very small font which is thus illegible (this does not happen when I do the same maneuvre in e.g. Windows Explorer). I want the box to remain the same size so I can see the search term I type.
   I tried to attach screenshots in the form of jpg files, but for some reason this feedback form does not allow for it.

5. Scripting Windows: Add page item after add swatch will delete added swatch

   In ExtendScript on Windows only, adding any InDesign page item after adding a color will delete the color:

   This actually manifested for me as a crash bug. This script crashes InDesign 2024 Windows:

   This crashes because the last line deletes the swatch when it adds the rectangle, then tries to use the swatch.

6. Flipped text in PDF created from Canva

   When placing a PDF with certain stylized fonts, the text is being flipped and enlarged. Seems to be specific to Mac OS.

   PDF docs have been created in Canva. They appear correctly when opened in Adobe Acrobat Pro, both on Windows and Mac. They are being placed in InDesign, and at that time the text titles being flipped and enlarged. I am working from v. 16.0.1. This was not an issue in previous versions. When I use png docs instead, and place those, I have no issues. I have been an Indesign user for about 3 years.

7. Reflowable EPUB3: "Page Navigation" export option adds a space inside hyphenated words at page breaks

   1. Version of InDesign: 19.4

   2. steps to reproduce

      • create a new InDesign file
      • add a text frame to the blank page
      • add enough text so some words are hyphenated at the page breaks for the next pages
      • export to epub3
      • enable "Page Navigation" on EPUB export

   3. Expected result
      Page navigation markers are added without interrupting the hyphenated words at the page breaks.

   4. Actual result

      When using the "Page Navigation" export option for reflowable EPUB exports, InDesign adds a <span> and </span> tag pair with a blank space character in the HTML export instead of simply dropping the soft hyphen that was present in the print layout.

      Result in the EPUBs XHTML:

      <p class="bodytext">Idel illandia suntusdae quoditint debitatissit quam quamus magnimus es quiaeper elor eper<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>nat quo con re nimus?</p>

      Another example using English text (from the "Georgia" file in the EPUB3 samples project):

      In my file "georgia", the words "consists" and "headward" are both hyphenated by InDesign as "con-sists" and "head-ward" at the page breaks, but exported to EPUB as

      con<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>sists

      and

      head<span id="page3" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="3" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>ward</span>

      respectively, thus displaying as "con sists" and "head ward".

      I am confident that this is not an issue of readers / apps display the EPUB erroneously, as I tested my example files on a PC with Kindle Previewer 3.81, Adobe Digital Editions 4.5, Thorium 2.2.0, as well as on a Kindle Paperwhite via Send to Kindle, a tolino (popular brand of readers in Germany, both with Adobe RMSDK rendering engine and new Readium-based rendering engine), an iPad with Apple Books and a Pocketbook InkPad Color.

      The W3C recommendation for page break markers is not a pair of opening <span> and closing </span> tags, but a self-closing <span/> tag, e.g.

      <span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"/>

      which would look like this for the above examples:

      Personally, I'd think using a pair of <span> / </span> tags WITHOUT an additional space should work out, too, if you absolutely must use a tag pair for whatever reason.

      However, I would strongly urge you to change the implementation to conform to the W3C recommendation.

      Either way, the current behaviour creates errors on EPUB export which are not present in the indd source file - so please change this as soon as possible.

      How am I supposed to supply a sample file if I am neither allowed to upload indd, idml, epub or zip files‽

8. "Hue" effect on rectangle breaks anti-aliasing of text

   Version: InDesign 2020 (15.0.2. x64)
   OS: Windows 10 (10.0.18363 Build 18363)

   Reproduction:
   1. Create a text frame and fill it with any text
   2. Create a rectangle on the same page and go to Window -> Effects, and set the rectangle's effect to "Hue"
   3. Text on that same page no longer appears anti-aliased

   Figured this out while trying to find out why all the text looked so bad. Ended up copying things to a new document (where text wasn't jagged) one by one, and eventually narrowed it down to the hue effect. Might be worth checking other effects for this problem?

9. Cursor - Zoom in and out/left and right on trackpad not working

   When using my trackpad on Windows 10, two fingers up and down works when editing a document. Two fingers left and right does nothing and pinching in and out doesnt zoom, it scrolls right to left. This is the same across all my adobe platforms. Everything else on my laptop scrolls accordingly on the trackpad.
   I only downloaded the adobe software last night and my laptop is brand new yesterday. All updates are up to date.

    InDesign windows do not allow resizing from top to bottom. Typically, the mouse pointer should change to a drag icon to indicate this functionality, but this does not happen with InDesign, while it works normally with other applications.

11. Email hyperlinks work once, but cease to work after clicking envelope link in Hyperlinks Palette

    When clicking an email link in the Hyperlinks Palette, the email does, in fact, spawn my mail application (Mac Mail) and the email and subject line are correct.

    However, when I return to Indesign to further edit the email link, and then I double click on that hyperlink in the Hyperlinks Palette, the email is no longer visible...it drops out.

    Additionally, the email is not available from the list of links (those links, BTW, are not shared links).

    And...the link, when I double click it, changes position in the list of hyperlinks, making it difficult to track what link you're trying to edits. This is particularly vexing when you're trying to edit auto-converted URLs which have names like "Hyperlink 97, Hyperlink 98, Hyperlink 99"---when the position changes, it's not clear if your edit to the hyperlink name is reordering due to A-Z...OR, if it's just jumping around in the list for no reason.

    PLEASE FIX!!!

12. Typing a key to quickly find an image when importing doesn't work

    When importing an image and the Place dialog window appears, I type a letter to quickly get to the image I want to import, instead of scrolling down or moving the mouse and clicking.

    This works about 50% of the time. It's as though there's some kind of timeout whereby if you import too many images in a row (one by one, not multiples at once), it won't recognise a keystroke. So, many times it simply won't work and I have to click the filename with the mouse to highlight it. This also happens in Illustrator..

13. Major performance issues in 15.0.2 with multiple large documents open

    I'm on a Windows laptop with a Core i7, 16 gb of ram and a dedicated GPU. Up until the 15.0.2 update there was some hitching and slowdown with these large files (and I noticed a weird bug where hitting T to use the Type tool doesn't actually change the tool) but now editing text can take up to 10 minutes with more than one file open. I can't make a screencast at the moment since I had to reinstall 15.0.1 to complete the project on time but the filesize we're talking about is 50-75mb, ~60 pages or so with about 300 linked images (it's a catalog).

14. Programs hangs after having selected a text and then opening the font drop down list.

    After having selected some text and then opening the drop down font menu, the program starts doing an infinte number of calculations and never stops (the CPU core being used is maxed and remains like that).

    FFS hire someone who can fix it.. its been ages.

15. Batch HTML Export Crashes InDesign 21.1

    Here is a (Gemini 3-assisted) report of an HTML export problem that is crashing InDesign consistently. It's somewhat urgent because crashing InDesign is not good for the nerves. Reverting to 21.0.1 permits the script to run to completion.

    Bug Report: Regression in HTML Export Automation (dvacore::xml / AXE8)
    Subject: InDesign 21.1 (and Prerelease) crashes with EXCEPTIONACCESSVIOLATION in dvacore::xml during iterative HTML Export scripting.
    Summary: Automated workflows that iterate through documents to export HTML (ExportFormat.HTML) fail consistently after processing 2–5 files. The crash occurs during the document closure or immediate post-processing phase of the export. This is a regression. The identical script logic functioning on the same hardware/OS was stable in previous InDesign builds (v21.0) but now crashes 100% of the time in v21.1.0.56.
    Environment:
    Application: InDesign 2026 (21.1.0.56) & Prerelease (21.2) Build
    OS: Windows 11 Pro (Build 26200)
    Hardware: Intel Core i7-12700K, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 (Driver 32.0.15.8157)
    RAM: 64GB
    Crash Signature: The crash consistently occurs in the dvacore module, specifically involving the Expat XML parser used during HTML generation.
    • Exception: 0xc0000005 (ACCESSVIOLATION)
    • Faulting Module: dvacore.dll
    • Key Stack Symbols:
    dvacore::xml::GetParser
    AXE8ExpatTerminate (in AXE8SharedExpat.dll)
    WCrashHandler::operator=
    Steps to Reproduce:
    Create a folder containing 5+ simple .indd documents of two to four pages in length.
    Run the following ExtendScript (.jsx) to batch export them to HTML:

    Observed Behavior:
    • File 1: Exports successfully.
    • File 2-3: InDesign crashes silently or throws the error report immediately upon calling doc.close() or starting the next app.open().
    • Attempted Workarounds (All Failed):
    Forcing Garbage Collection ($.gc()) between iterations.
    Purging Caches (app.purge(PurgeOptions.ALLCACHES)).
    Adding $.sleep(3000) delays to allow file locks to release.
    Running in UserInteractionLevels.NEVERINTERACT vs INTERACTWITHALL.
    Analysis: The stack trace showing AXE8_ExpatTerminate strongly suggests a race condition or resource leak in the HTML/XML subsystem. It appears the XML parser instance created for the first export is not being correctly destroyed or released by the time the script initiates the second export cycle. When the application attempts to re-engage dvacore::xml::GetParser, it hits invalid memory.
    Impact: Batch automation for HTML outputs is currently impossible in v21.1 without restarting the application instance for every single document.

16. "Print Booklet..."

    Print Booklet not observing changes to printer preferences with existing files.

    InDesign 13.0.1 x64
    Windows 10.0.16299.309
    Xerox Versant 180 with Fiery EX-i 1.1

    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Open existing document.
    2) File -> Print Booklet...
    3) Print Settings
    4) Setup...
    5) Preferences
    6) Change anything in printer preferences.
    7) OK

    Document should print using printer preferences that were specified.

    Document prints incorrectly using printer's default preferences, completely ignoring any preferences changed.

    NOTE: This issue is not observed with new files. It is observed with multiple existing files.

17. "Go-to-Folder" Shortcut Not Working When InDesign Opens Finder

    About two updates prior to the last 2021 update that was released, the shortcut Commnand+Shift+G that would normally open the "Go-to-Folder" dialog box when doing something like relinking an image stopped working.

    Unlike windows, where a file's location path can be copied and pasted at any time into an address bar, the "Go-to-Folder" menu can only be accessed via shortcut on Mac (as far as I am aware). It is very inconvenient to have to go through every folder individual folder, when I want to relink or place something, instead of being able to directly go to where the file is located.

19. InDesign CC 2018 Application frame will not fill screen

    Hi Folks

    Having an issue since InDesign 2018 with sizing the app window.

    When in Application Frame mode, the frame will not expand horizontally to fill the screen — it will only expand vertically.

    It expands normally up to about 80% of the screen width, but then becomes unresponsive to any attempt to make it wider - so I'm working in a dinky little workspace.

    The app seems to think my display is narrower than it really is.

    Windows expand normally when application frame is turned off, and return to the problem width when app frame is turned back on.

20. windows are bigger in 17.2. resizing documents behaving badly!

    please fix this problem.
    I've just installed 17.2. All my windows and pallets are suddenly bigger and when I want to grab a document in the bottom right corner to resize, the document becomes even bigger at first!

    is there a way to go back to my previous version? PLEASE?
