1. disappearing text paragraph style

   I am using InDesign 17.4 under macOS 12.6 on an iMac Retina 5K, 27", 2017 with a 3.4 GHz i5, 32GB RAM, and a Radeon Pro 570.

   When I attempt to create a new paragraph style with an active text selection and check 'Apply Style to Selection', any change I make to the new paragraph style, including simply naming the style, renders the text invisible.

   The expected result, of course, would be to have visible text.

   The actual result is invisible text.

   Relaunching ID, restarting the computer, and rebuilding the preferences file all had no effect. The only workaround I have found is to not select the 'Apply Style to Selection' option, create my style, and then apply the style in the document. From there I am able to edit the style without further issue.

2. paragraph lines don't fit rounded frame-line

   When using rounded corners on textframes, paragraph-lines don't fit to the right frame.
   We use it with 0,5-pt-framelines and there is a small distance between both lines.
   Depending on typesize (and perhaps on other parameters), the distance has different measures.
   InDesignCC (14.0.2) / OSX HighSierra (10.13.6)

3. Analytics Publish Online not loading statistics

   Many of us have raised the publish online dashboard analytics slow loading and/or complete failure to work and it still seems to ne ignored.

   We have noticed across our design team that analytics seems to work differently across different accounts. Accounts with less documents published online have greater success and speed in returning analytics. Those with over a 100 documents for example have limited success.

   We think this maybe due to that when you request the analytics for a 'single' document Adobe systems are not just loading that 'single' document. They are processing the whole account and all documents within.

   This would makes sense in that an account with less documents can retrieve statistics for 1 year or 'since published' options. But an account with hundreds of documents 'for us' is limited to 60 to 90 day statistics.

   We assume this 'whole account' processing must be the case because when statistics for a single document are received for say a 1 year date range - all other documents can be 'instantly' viewed for that 1 year date range without any reloading or searching of the data.

   Can Adobe please fix this or at least tell us if it will NOT be fixed.

4. Export to Fixed Layout EPUB - Poor Image Quality

   I am currently working on a graphic novel project that I am planning on submitting to apple books as an epub file. The files were created in adobe illustrator and subsequently, linked into adobe indesign to create the final published product. I have noticed that the image quality when exported to epub is far inferior to when that same file is exported to a pdf file. That is regardless of the alterations that you make to PPI or other options (such as altering between PNG, JPG and other file formats) prior to exporting to epub. I have adjusted the PPI to 300 and still the color of the document and the overall image quality lack. I find myself having to ***** open the epub to exchange out the indesign generated files for files that I optimized in illustrator (which can be a painfully tedious process if you have a ton of pages/images to optimize). These newly optimized files look far better at a fraction of the size of the indesign generated files. I located this forum thread from 2011 that actually seems to correspond to my problem (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/871355).

5. Spell Checker

   Hello
   I have a problem with spell checking in Indesing. The issue is that it does not correct words that are wrongly accented, for example, in Spanish, the word "como" when it should have an accent or the word "mas" when it should have an accent.
   Let me explain:
   The sentence (always in Spanish): ¿como te va la vida? should be written like this: ¿cómo te va la vida? and when I run the spell checker it does not detect the word "como", since it should have an accent. However, if I write ¿como te va la bida? it does detect the word "bida" as a spelling mistake, but it does not detect the word "como". I have all the correction options activated and the language of the paragraph style is Spanish. It also happens the same with the words "está" "ésta" "and with words in singular that should be in plural and vice versa, for example in the sentence "los campo de trigo" should be "los campos de trigo" and it does not detect it as an error.

   I believe that since you pay a monthly fee, the programs should work properly, otherwise, you should compensate for the hours of work lost in spell-checking in an artisanal way.

6. Indesign Auto-Save No Longer Included in App

   Adobe InDesign Version 19.2
   Using MacBook Pro Max M3 16-Inch, Nov 2023
   Running MacOS Sonoma Version 14.3.1

   Apparently there was previously an option in InDesign which auto-saves your documents as you go (with options in Preferences to specify how often you wished the app to auto-save the active document from 1 to 60 minutes). This feature is similar to what Adobe Premiere Pro app has -- even while saving via the "Save As" feature (which overwrites a previous version with the same file name), the auto-save application feature saves the document as you work with it, so that you can go back to previously saved versions to retrieve a version which which predates any lost data, or newly created errors that were saved as overwritten versions to the working document.

   My example: I mistakenly "Placed" a PDF document within a page's main text box (instead of Placing it on the following page). It replaced all of the extensive text on that page with this PDF image. Not having realized that (as I was looking at the second page where I also placed the PDF correctly) I "Saved As" the file, which permanently deleted / overwrote all the text I'd spent an hour or more writing and formatting. Thus, there was no Auto-Saved version that predated my error.

   It's necessary to re-add this Auto-Save feature to InDesign (as it used to exist) so we can retrieve lost data due to the issue described.

7. Moving Pages calls for use of Absolute Page Number

   1. InDesign 21.0.1 x64 (on Windows 11)
   2. I want to move a page from a document where I have changed the Numbering & Section Options so that the document includes multiple pages with the same page number. I open the document that includes the page I want to move, and open the document which will receive that page. I select a page in the pages panel, right click, and select "Move Page." The Move Pages dialog box appears, and I select the document and location where I want the page to be moved and click OK.
   3. The highlighted page will be copied to the correct location in the destination document.
   4. Instead, I receive an error message asking me to identify the correct page using the absolute page number. In earlier versions of InDesign, if I tried to use the Move Pages dialog box by simply typing in a page number, it would ask me to define the page using the absolute page number, but as long as I had highlighted the page I wanted to move and then activated the Move Page function, InDesign would automatically identify the page I wanted to move without asking me to define the absolute page number.

8. 'Use Spacing' *STILL* not working for multiple pages using Page Tool

   1. Indesign Beta v 18.9
   2. Turn off Facing pages and deselect 'Allow pages to shuffle'

   • create multiple pages and then 'attach' one to another, by clicking and dragging a page alongside another in the pages panel, until you see the grey 'hook' then release it, so they stick together.

   • Now select multiple pages using the Page tool and the 'Use Spacing' option appears at the top. Type in a number, say, 50mm

   1. Expected result: All pages move 50mm away from each other, and you should be able to attach as many pages together as required for the task

   2. Actual result: everything stays the same, no spacing between 'artboards/pages' is automatically inserted, and you can only attach 10 pages together.

   NOTES:
   • I was hoping this issue was resolved in Beta.

   • I've tried 3 different computers (MacBook Pro M1 Max, iMac 2017 5k, MacBook Pro 15inch 2015) and doesn't work on any of them.

   It's a feature that would save a lot of designers working with Point of sale and event exhibition design, to be able to organise 'artboards/pages' directly in InDesign.

10. Paragraph border and shading error with anchored objects

    when anchored objects (such as column Text or line numbers) are anchored in a Text using the options "Paragraph border" and "paragraph Shading" the borders and Shades will "randomly" disappear, or new border-lines will appear (when more then one paragraphs are merged, the lines always appear between the different styles, even though they work fine again when the object is de-anchored). Sometimes the appearance doesn't change when an object is anchored, but when the anchored object is edited (for example, when the size of the anchored object is changed).

    This is reproducable on my Windows 10, using InDesign 15.1.4.
    Steps:
    - create a new document
    - create a paragraph styles using paragraph borders/ paragraph shading
    - create 1 or 2 more styles, based on the previously defined style
    - create an object-style using "benutzerdefiert" (individual?) - positioning
    - anchor 2 or 3 objects using this object-style in the shaded text/ the text with borders

    expected result:
    the paragraph border/ paragraph shading does not change, but looks just like I defined it to look

    actual result:
    - the appearance of the paragraph changes, and that also affects the PDF.

    The problem also sometimes appears when an object is anchored in a text using Paragraph border/ shading, when text anywhere else in the same story is edited.

11. metadata delimiter

    Hello, This is to report an ID behavior that constitutes a bug (to my thinking). This behavior has existed in every version of ID that I'm familiar with from the beginning through CC 2021. Documentation states that you can use any delimiter character you prefer in File Info. But it doesn't tell you that it will change your delimiters to semicolons as soon as you hit OK on the File Info dialog. This has been a thorn in my side for many years. I produce periodical scientific journals using InDesign as my layout tool. And ID is awesome for that. But every time I export a PDF, I'm then forced to manually change all those semicolons back to commas (that's what our website demands for full searching/indexing capability). Until our webmaster makes a change that will allow semicolons, I have to endure that frustration on every author list and keyword list in every PDF that we publish. There are very few, if any, options for batch search/replacing text in metadata of a collection of PDFs. I hope the ID development staff will find it in their hearts to change ID's preference for semicolons - or at least provide some alternative solution for exported PDFs.

12. line break between XML elements not behaving as expected

    I have some XML in this format:

    <ROOT><DOCUMENT>
    <CHAPTER>Chapter One</CHAPTER>
    <CONTENT>This is what happened in Chapter 1.</CONTENT>
    <CHAPTER>Chapter Two</CHAPTER>
    <CONTENT>This is what happened in Chapter 2.</CONTENT>
    </DOCUMENT></ROOT>

    I have a pre-tagged template where the <CHAPTER> tag maps to a paragraph style with Keep Options, start paragraph=Next page (i.e., every new chapter should start on a new page). The <CONTENT> tag maps to a basic paragraph style, and <ROOT> and <DOCUMENT> are not mapped.

    Notice there is a line break in the XML after <DOCUMENT>.

    After importing, the result is that page 1 appears blank (because of the line break) and Chapter One starts on page 2. If I go into the story editor and remove the line break so it looks like <DOCUMENT><CHAPTER>, it fixes the display so Chapter One starts on page 1.

    I had asked in the forums if there was a solution for removing this line break automatically, either with XSLT or a script in InDesign (we are not able to change the original XML output),. I was told it might be a bug -- unexpected behavior with a return that is outside of the content that it should be placing.

13. InDesign 2023 18.0 /Users/user/Library/Application Support/Adobe InDesign/Version 18.0/en_US/InDesign Recovery/ filling up with DBTmp files

    We have an automated process using InDesign to export the XML out of a .indd files. We are experiencing a scenario where InDesign is leaving behind numerous DBTmp files in /Users/user/Library/Application Support/Adobe InDesign/Version 18.0/en_US/InDesign Recovery/ to the point that our Mac is filling up a 500 Gig SSD. These files do not clean up after Quitting InDesign, a Reboot, attempting the Reset InDesign Preferences Shift-Control-Option-Command startup of InDesign. These files are also locked. In our scenario, we hit 119,000 files or so and InDesign just quit working due to the drive being full. I have attached a list of the files to this request

14. [Windows] InDesign/InCopy CC2018 is crashing on document close (icml file with anchored pdf file)

    InDesign/InCopy CC2018 have an issue with PDF (and probably AI) files used as anchors in text frames when the Display Performance/Vector Graphics option is set to High Resolution.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Start InDesign/InCopy (with settings/cache cleared)
    2. Menu: Edit -> Preferences -> Display Performance -> Adjust View Settings -> Vector Graphics [set to: High Resolution]
    3. Open "crash-example.idml" file.
    4. Select "Update Links" in the dialog (if asked)
    5. Replace crash-example.icml file with a file found in "replace-file-1" folder
    6. Update Content of the text frame (menu -> InCopy -> Update Content or CTRL+F5)
    7. Close the file with CTRL+W (or by clicking "x" in the tab)
    8. When asked to save changes select "No"
    9. InDesign (or InCopy) crashes.

    Additional info:
    * Changing Preferences/Display Performance/Adjust View Settings/Vector Graphics to "Proxy" - the document closes without a crash (but only if the pdf was first loaded with that setting).
    * InDesign versions affected: 13.0.0, 13.1.1
    * InCopy versions affected: 13.0, 13.1.1
    * Versions not affected: 10.0, 11.0, 12.0, 14.0
    * Operating system affected: Windows

    Please provide a fix for this issue in CC2018 as it makes InDesign/InCopy unusable in some workflows.

    InDesign/InCopy CC2018 have an issue with PDF (and probably AI) files used as anchors in text frames when the Display Performance/Vector Graphics option is set to High Resolution.

15. Resized vectors not displaying properly in high quality display mode on drag

    14.0.2 x64 on Windows 10

    Steps:
    1. High Quality display mode (default settings)
    2. Place any EPS vector file.
    3. Attempt to resize it while holding ctrl-shift to maintain ratios.

    Expected result:
    The vector file, resized.

    Actual result:
    Grey box. I have to zoom in or out to get the screen to "refresh" and show the correct image.

    Similar issue happens with placed AI file. Very simple, clearly. Just a triangle. Made in the latest version of Illustrator.

    The Youtube button is an EPS.

    Related: If I use the option "Greek Vector Graphics on Drag" it performs correctly, only now I'm viewing a low res image momentarily where on a Mac I was not. It's a "fix" but it's not an acceptable solution to a feature that should work.

16. Paragraph style not applying when selecting the wanted style

    Indesign version 20.0.1

    When highlighting the desired text that I wish to apply the paragraph style to and clicking on the preferred paragraph style. The click animation attempts to very briefly 'grab' the style rather than select it. This works on any paragraph style I try.

    I have a similar issue when selecting a colour swatch to apply, the only option is to grab and drag the desired swatch to where it is needed.

    I also cannot change the font when selecting the text I wish to change and selecting a font from the drop down.

    This is only a recent issue for me that I have experienced over the past week or so.

    I have tried using older versions of Indesing such as 19.5 & 19.4. And am still having the same issues.

17. Guides aligned with cursor and not object

    Just updated to InDesign 2025 (v 20.0) and had to switch back to the previous version due to the smart guides functioning strangely. The guides should show up in the center or edge of the object so that I can align it properly on the page and in relation to other objects. Instead, it's producing the guidelines from wherever my cursor is when I click and drag the object. This has made it much more difficult to do simple things like center objects, since it's just centering my cursor instead. I've never had any desire to align things based on where my cursor is. I don't see an option to turn this off.

    I restarted the program and checked for updates, and there were none. I also turned off and on smart guides, which didn't help. InDesign 2024 is still functioning correctly.

18. No frame edges for lines or ankerpoint visible anymore?

    Problem: Line objects no longer have "frame edges" in the normal view! Lines without line thickness, white lines (which do not lie over a background), individual nodes are thus invisible in the layout!

    To find slipped lines again or to find several rest fragments like single nodes again becomes a patience and search game!

    The (line-) or frame edges appear only if you either select everything or if you move the mouse over the line or the single node randomly (mouseover). Simple is different!

    This was not always so! No idea when this was changed! But it was a very bad decision in any case!!! This does not make working with lines easy. But nerve-wracking and time-consuming.

    Time consuming and layout though, are not a good combo.
    This reminds me somehow of QuarkXpress!

    Please Adobe, re-enable line edges via the frame edges option!!!!

19. Opening a document now causes lag for about 30 seconds, where I have no control

    2. Steps to reproduce the issues: a. Open document from the Mac Finder. (This lag happens whether I start with InDesign open or closed. b. I have zero control of anything while a progress indicator spins for about 30 seconds. c. A font error dialog pops up, and then I can finally control InDesign, starting by dismissing that dialog. 20. have to choose export folder every time

    In CC2019 and before, Indesign seemed to remember, in which folder it was exporting last. So when I was in Job A, it would offer me Folder A to begin with. When I was in Job B, it would offer mit Folder B to begin with.

    In CC2020 (under 10.15.1) it seems Indesign shows the last folder I was woring in. So when I am in Job A an chose Folder A by hand, then close the job and open Job B, When exporting the file would be saved in folder A. Which is quite annoying to be honest. I also can't find any setting that would fix this (and if there are people out who feel the new way is way better: I would like to make a point for the old behaviour and maybe an option to choose between those two, since I solely need to export my pdfs in the folder my main job is located.

    Is this behaviour intentional by adobe or could this be a mistake (and easily be fixed)?
