  1. tracking

Having lots of issues since the latest update (17.2) with the character box.

When I highlight my text it won't allow me to click the dropdown to change the font or the tracking.

If I click on the 'tracking' field, I can type the number in manually but I can't see it. I also cannot click the up and down buttons to change it that way.

  2. Rulers exceeding text boundaries, only paragraph shading or offsets seem to be able to limit them

The issue is described in this thread (sample .INDD file link included in the thread to reproduce the issue):

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/can-all-column-rules-height-be-re-adjusted-at-once-after-changing-the-copy-text-font-size/m-p/13139262#M488618

The excess rulers that go beyond the text boundary can only be removed (or masked, not sure which is actually happening) with paragraph shading.

As a rule, rulers should not go beyond the text boundary, and they should adapt to the text boundary (if font size have been changed, or if other changes have been made that affect the layout).

But the green arrows show that in some cases the boundary is correct.

    It shouldn't be necessary to…

  3. fi creates embedded subset

When I use the two letters "fi" in that order, when I export PDF, I get embedded subsets. This is on multiple fonts.
if I switch the case of f"I" to fI upper case (EYE), then the embedded subset issue goes away. (the case of the first letter "f" does not matter.
    example so words:
    first
    fit
    profit

  4. Multi-Lingual Data Handling

This is a suggestion for a new feature for people using InDesign for multilingual purposes.

In India, we may need to use 3 languages at the same time, for example, in addition to English, we may need to use the national language Hindi and the regional language Malayalam, Tamil or some other language. In other countries, sometimes even more.

When we try to make changes to a paragraph or chapter using different fonts in different languages, we often have to select and change even one letter to change the font in each language. This greatly reduces the joy of…

  5. Indesign 2020 intolerable lag of up to 10 seconds when switching from selection to text tools

Since the latest update, InDesign has extensive trouble switching from selection to text tools. This appears to be exacerbated by having more than one layout file open. I'm running Windows 10 Pro, i9 system with 64GB of ram. I've reinstalled, deleted preferences, reduced fonts installed, deactivated preflight, deactivated opentext options bug on boxes. The problem is very repeatable and proving a major work disruption.

  7. 15.0.2

When pasting a group of layers from one document to another it would be great of InDesign would honor the sort order when the layers land in the receiving document. Also if the layer colors can stay the same.

I often paste between documents and it is not fun having the manual sort the layers. How about a sort selected layer by "X' as an option. Typically I number these direct mail layers in numerical order.

This is very important with direct mail clients with variable data. The printers prefer all versions for the different branch offices in a 2-page…

  8. character styles in Table of Contents

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature.

It is a best practice, if you use running headers, to apply a character style to a selected subset of a heading, for example, HeadText1 for a first-level heading, and HeadText2 for a second-level heading, so that the header just shows basically a short title for the heading. You define the header to contain two text variables, first Heading1 that picks up, for example, the first instance of the text marked with HeadText1, and Heading2 that picks up the last instance of HeadText2. Works great, and I have a…

  10. fonts appearing as distressed almost

Some fonts appear as distressed. Almost like there's a pattern overlay on them. It changes as you move the text box around on the screen. Doesn't export into pdf like this, only in active document (see blue text, I've included what appears in indesign and how it looks normally)

  12. [INDD 2020 and 2021] Placed SVG InDesign ignores code dominant-baseline="hanging"

It seems that the SVG import filter ignores code:
    dominant-baseline="hanging"
when rendering text in the placed SVG graphic.

For full details see the following discussion at the Adobe InDesign Forum:

  13. Fonts menu selection doesn't work well (it skips some fonts randomly)

On a 2011 27" iMac 3,1 Ghz with SSD drive, with the last High Sierra and InDesign CC 2019 (14.0.2) versions, the fonts selection menu doesn't work well. Please see attached video. This is really annoying because it seems to happen randomly. Thanks for your help. Regards.

  15. Missing fonts, spell checking not working with InDesign 2020 build 15.0.2

There are two bugs with InDesign 2020, build 15.0.2, which make it unusable for me. I have reverted to build 15.0, and the two bugs are not in that build.

Bug 1 is that often when I export pages as a pdf, or I package the document, the fonts I am using in the document become missing afterward. I need to quit InDesign in order to have InDesign find those fonts again.

Bug 2 is that spell checking no longer works. The spell checking window comes up, but it never catches any misspellings.

    Reverting InDesign to build 15.0…

  18. widespread issues with unicode fonts (tibetan) and footnotes

    macos 10.13.6, ID 15.1.3
completely wacky behaviour of footnotes in combination with unicode tibetan fonts (dduchen, noto, babelstone tibetan). fn numbers in text do not follow formatting, in footnote reference numbers are only one digit (most of the time) and sometimes proper digits (occacionally). odd spaces before letters and words (all fonts), strange behavior with formate changes. this is as ********* as it gets.

  20. Text Frame Lag when Window > Control (Panel) is enabled.

When Control Panel is enabled (Window > Control), double clicking into a text frame has a lag for about a second. Turning off the Control Panel helps but this is not a solution.

I think this lag is related to loading fonts in background for the select field – doesn’t matter how much or how less fonts are installed/loaded on Mac.

As this is a long existing performance issue yet (available since 2018), could you please consider to optimize the lag for text frames within a future update, finally?
