Return the use of "master pages" instead of "parent pages"
In the latest version Adobe decided that their job was to educate us to speak proper language, which is why the word "master pages" was replaced with "parent pages".
We do not find any problem with the phrase "master pages" and believe that it is not Adobe's role to dictate policy according to progressive agendas.
We demand to return to the previous concept of "master pages".
The term "parent pages" is confusing and misleading, with all the documentation of the software on the web for 2 decades referring to master pages.23 votes -
15.1.2 No cursor visible in Input fields in Light/Medium Light themes
Since installing 15.1.2 on iMac 10.15.6 (and after restart) , I can't see my cursor (blinking) in the Find/change input field. I can type in some text though, but still no cursor visible

Hyperlinks copy/pasted between files *appear* to break after source document is removed.
Using CC2019 on a Mac running High Sierra
Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a document with a few hyperlinks in it.
2) Whilst this document is open, open a 2nd document, and copy/paste the links from one document to the other.
3) Save both and close.
4) Trash source documentExpected result: hyper links should work in Target document as expected.
Actual result: hyperlinks all appear broken in document. Whilst an exported PDF appears to still work, ID reports all those links as broken.
Other details:
If you retrieve the source document from the trash, it the links in the target document suddenly start working again, meaning your not actually pasting the hyperlink, but theres some sort of link that exists between the source and target document.Saving target file as a new file, saving as idml, has no effect – those links are still tied to the source document.
This in an absolute tragedy if you are working on large documents with lots of links, and needs fixing ASAP

Colors are displayed differently between pages
InDesign 13.0.1 on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) OS 10.13.3
Open a CMYK document. Place an sRGB file on page 1. Place the same (or copy) on page 2.
Expected: the colors on both pages look the same.
Actual result: With color-proof switched off, the colors on page 1 show as if color-proof turned on while on page 2 the colors show correctly. See screenshots with the same files on 2 pages. I changed nothing I just moved the picture from one page to the other.
With color-proof turned on all pages look like page 1.23 votesThanks for reporting.

Changing font in Character Panel frequently causes a crash in Indesign CC 2018
Since 2018 version, changing a font in the character panel frequently crashes the application, but not 100% of the time. Font worked fine in older version and sometimes works fine in 2018, but the same issue has happened a good few times in the last week or so.

Adobe InDesign 2024(v19.0) - Users are facing issues while scrolling using Trackpad/Touchpad
I have installed the upgrade to Adobe InDesign 2024 (build 19.0) while keeping version 2023 (build 18.5) and have encountered the following problem:
- After opening a document, the mouse scroll wheel does not seem to work (i.e. it is not possible to scroll up or down the contents of a page). However, this condition still works in InDesign version 2023.
Has anyone encountered the same problem and found a solution?

Interactive PDF go to destination not working
Using InDesign CC 2019 14.0.1
I have a 24 page report designed for print, with an additional layer which when visible adds interactive buttons to the top left corner of each page so I can also export an interactive PDF. The buttons are:
Go to previous page
Go to next page
Go to destination linking to the contents pageThe document also contains URL hyperlinks and the contents links to each section of the report using bookmarks, but is not set up as a TOC. I'm not using any functions under the SWF/EPUB only section.
When exported as an interactive PDF the Next Page, Previous Page, contents bookmarks and URL hyperlinks all work as expected, but the contents button using Go to Destination appears to do nothing.
I tried using a bookmark, hyperlink destination and text anchor and none worked in Go to Destination once exported. I also tried both On Release or Tap and On Click as the event with no success.
I tried setting up a brand new document just with a button using Go to Destination linking to a bookmark on release or tap and this worked when exported. I moved the pages of the report across to the new document, it stopped working.
I started again with a new document and Go to Destination button. Again worked on export. I added Next and Previous page buttons, stopped working.
We have three other documents currently live in the studio which use Go to Destination buttons. One is working on export. Two are not working. Of those two, one includes Next and Previous buttons, one does not and only contains Go to Destination buttons. My file is an update of a file created in an older version of InDesign. The other three are brand new documents created in the latest version of InDesign.
When we have had problems with interactive functions not exporting in the past, we have been able to save the files as IDMLs then export from there with success but this is also not working anymore . The work around we currently have is to edit the button within Acrobat itself, but this is tedious given the original buttons were all on the master page and should be an easy export.
Screenshots attached of the action that is exporting with Go to Destination when opened in Acrobat. Also a screen shot of the button set up (file name redacted)

Repackaged book-document cross-references do not update file path
A series of documents in a Book have cross-references to one another. All are correct and working properly.
I create a new package for my publisher and test the cross-references:
they are pointing at locations in my original files rather than the ones in the new package.Since those files exist, the cross-references have good status. Moving that package to a new computer breaks them, of course.

With Adjust Layout ON, Text Frames shrink to extremely tiny size on changing Margins.
I am working in Adobe InDesign CC 2019 14.0.1. When I have a manuscript already flowed into my document and try to adjust the margins on the master page with Adjust Layout enabled, when the new margins are applied to the document, all the existing text boxes "disappear." From what I can tell, they have been resized down to an infinitely small point in the middle of the spread. Obviously, this is not useful. I used to be able to adjust the margins across an entire book-length document in one go with layout adjustment, and the text on every page would be re-fit to the new margins. The attached screenshots show the before and after on a spread (you can see the tiny text box in the middle in the after).
Am I missing a step here, or is this a bug?

serial number changed on cc2019
User is not required to fill-in a serial number on CC apps, but nevertheless the numbers still exist and are used by 3rd party script creators to identify the user and license the script.
this SN was kept the same on all CC versions but now it was changed. this means I need to repurchase my scripts licenses.
the 3rd party programmer can't use just username becuase there may be more than one indesign license under one username.
suggested solution: just keep the SN as it was on CC2018 and don'r make us pay for nothing22 votesThe fix for this issue is now available in the latest update 14.0.2 of InDesign 2019.

Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders.
I can't even open InDesign anymore, I keep getting an error message that says "Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign." I've changed permissions on every folder and file to "Read & Write" that I thought would help make it work but nothing is working. I was trying to open the latest version of ID, even undownloaded and tried using CC 2017 to no avail. I need this fixed ASAP.

Publish Online URL links breaking website functionality
File Created in Indesign CC 2017
I have created a test interactive document with links to product DG012 on our company website.
https://indd.adobe.com/view/da74b2d3-46b2-40cf-99e2-8201ddc6248a
When the link is clicked from publish online it opens the page but seems to disable all scripts that run on the website. e.g. search field and add to cart no longer functions on that page.
The website itself functions correctly if you navigate to the link manually ( http://www.lockhart.co.uk/Table-Service-and-Buffet/Buffet-Display/Display-Stands/Rafters-F usion-1-2-Board~p~DG012 ).
Interestingly in safari the add to cart button functions but the search field is still disabled.
On closer inspection it seems to be an iframe issue -

Data Merge function "Remove Blank Lines for Empty Fields" deletes the wrong paragraph
Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
Adobe InDesign 15.0.1
macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
iMac 27 Zoll End 2012
Steps to reproduce the issues
See also attached video
Open Document "02VKLeerzeilenTEMPEnde.indd"
Open Data-Merge Panel
Generate a merged document with click on the button
Uncheck "Remove Blank Lines for Empty Fields" in Content Placement Options
Press [OK]
Repeat Step 3 this time Check "Remove Blank Lines for Empty Fields" in Content Placement Options
Press [OK]
Put the documents side by side
Activate "Show Style override" in the paragraph panel
Jump to page 2
On the left side (Merged Document, Blank line intact) you can see the 2 markers followed by a paragraph symbol
On the right side (Merged Document, Blank line removed) you can see that the 2 markers with paragraph symbol moved 1 line up behind the 7 and the other paragraph symbol is deleted
Everything is o.k. because the paragraph style (07padresse) of the line "Mobile" and the deleted "Blank line" are the same
Jump to page 3
On the left side you can see the 2 markers followed by a paragraph symbol
On the right side (Merged Document, Blank line removed) you can see that the 2 markers with paragraph symbol moved 1 line up and the other paragraph symbol (blue highlighted on the left side) is deleted BUT this time the paragraph style of these 2 paragraph are NOT the same! The result is a bigger gap between the two sentence "Frau Marie…" and Tel: 012…" on the right then it should be as you can see on the leftExpected result
The Blank line (2 markers and paragraph symbol) should be deleted/removedActual result
Instead of the Blank line (2 markers and paragraph symbol) the paragraph symbol before that (blue highlighted on the left side) is removed AND the remaining paragraph also picks up the paragraph style from the "Blank line" (if there were text in my example you could see that as well)Workaround
You can generate a merged document with Blank lines and delete/remove them with Find/Change
Find > (markers) + paragraph symbol = <FEFF><FEFF>^p
Change > to nothing
This way everything stays intact!Test file, screenshot, video or GIF capturing the issue (optional)

A splitted footnote with three lines violates keep options and makes a widow instead of an orphan
Version of Adobe InDesign
This issue appears in every InDesign versions since footnotes are supported.
Bug reports / feature requests (from CS3 up to CS6) have been ignored in the past.Steps to reproduce the issues
given:
a) a footnote with three text lines
b) splitting footnotes allowed in the footnote options
c) keep options: at start/end of Paragraph 2/2 (2 lines at start, 2 lines at end)
Play with the textframes hight so that the footnote is forced to be splitted. It will only split 2/1, not 1/2.
Actual result
The footnots splits with 2 lines in the textframe within the footnote starts and ends with one single line (widow) in the next textframe.Expected result
a) best choice: hold the keep options!
(e.g. 2 at start / 2 at end; so don't split a footnote with 3 and less lines).
b) alternative: make an orphan (full line at the start of a footnote paragraph) instead of a widow; widows are absolutely not allowed (because they ony fill a part of a line, maybe only one word)Test file, screenshot, video or GIF capturing the issue (optional)

Incorrect re-linking of image files with rotation metadata
This bug occurs in all versions of InDesign.
InDesign reflects the EXIF orientation in the transform panel when an image file is placed. However, under the following conditions, the result of relinking will be incorrect.
- The image file is rotated 90 degrees with EXIF orientation.
- In the transform panel, the vertical and horizontal percentage values are different.
Image files taken with an iPhone often retain the EXIF orientation rotation. If such a file is placed in indd by the client and the vertical and horizontal percentage values are different, there will be a problem that will cause drastic changes in relinking.
The background of this trouble is the specification that Photoshop always saves with EXIF orientation set to 1. This is the correct specification. I think it should be fixed on the InDesign side.

21 votesHi all,
We tried various scenarios with the attached file and got the following results:
1. Placed the ‘EXIF-Orientation-6.jpg’ file shared in the thread.
-Rotation angle of the content was shown as -90°2. Edited the .jpg file in Photoshop to just change the color and Updated the link in InDesign.
-Rotation angle of the content was changed to 0°3. Then placed this edited file again, as a new link, in InDesign.
-Rotation angle was shown as 0°Are you also seeing the same results?
