1. Searching and finding overset text no longer changes to the page this text is on

   In InDesign 2024, you can search for text that happens to be overset (outside a text box). When you press find next, the page changes to the location of this text box with the matching overset text.

   In InDesign 2025 version 20.01, you can search for overset text (outside the text box). The page will not change if the matching text is overset.

   Being able to search for text that is inside an overset text box, and knowing what page it is on, is an important function. Can we get this back? Seems like a simple fix.

2. The first letter of the Arabic text should appear correctly in the exported PDF, even when it has diacritics

   1. Version of Adobe InDesign:

   All versions of Adobe InDesign 2024 and 2025, from version 19.0 to version 20.0.
   2. Steps to Reproduce the Issue:

   Open Adobe InDesign (versions 19.0 to 20.0).
   Create a new document.
   Insert Arabic text that includes diacritics (tashkeel) on the first letter.
   Apply full justification to the text.
   Use variable text features with the Arabic text.
   Export the document to PDF for printing.
   3. Expected Result:

   The first letter of the Arabic text should appear correctly in the exported PDF, even when it has diacritics and is fully justified.
   4. Actual Result:

   The first letter disappears in the exported PDF when the text is fully justified and the first letter has diacritics.
   The issue does not appear in the InDesign preview; it only occurs after exporting to PDF.

3. pdf export

   Can not export as PDF, it simply keeps spinning for hours and nothing happens. Very slow performance compared to earlier versions, nearly unusable.

4. Black box appears while working Indesign, even on blank document

   A black box appears at random over the screen, covering everything in Indesign. Flashes and then goes away, but does it repeatedly.

5. working spaces are not shown correctly after sleep mode

   Adobe InDesign version 20.0.1 (Mac OS): Problem: after sleep mode, the saved workspace is not displayed correctly. The tool palettes are no longer on the second screen after the Mac has been put to Sleep mode

6. After updating to InDesign v20.0 Apple Emoji characters are NO LONGER SUPPORTED in the names of "Adobe PDF presets"!

   THIS BUG IS PRESENT since the update to InDesign v20.0.
   Menu: InDesign > File > Adobe PDF Presets

   After updating to InDesign v20.0 Apple Emoji characters are NO LONGER SUPPORTED in the names of "Adobe PDF presets"!
   After many years of functioning perfectly, now with version 20.0 Adobe dropped support of Apple Emoji characters in"PDF presets", resulting, that "PDF presets" can no longer imported to the latest version of InDesign!
   Symptome 01: after updating to InDesign 20.0 the existing presets with names containing Apple Emoji symbols are deleted.
   Symptome 02: When trying to import previous "PDF-presets" ith names containing Apple Emoji symbols, these DO NOT IMPORT into InDesign 20.0!
   Symptome 03: In InDesign 20.0, when creating new "PDF-presets" Apple Emoji characters in the preset name after saving the preset it just disappears without trace!

7. Data Merge window "white box" covering data

   InDesign 20. Just upgraded and now all my data merge documents are not showing the data in the window. There is a white box over that pallette window. I tried dragging the window out but it still persists. I opened all my merge documents and they are all showing the same white box over the data fields. I contacted support via chat and they advised me to install an older version of InDesign. That solves the problem but I cannot upgrade to the new InDesign.

11. Navigating through pages with keyboard shift page up / page down jumps multiple pages Indesign V19.x and 20.0

    Navigating through pages with keyboard shift + page up/down was already flaky in the last couple versions of Indesign jumping two pages at once, especially after opening a document. With version 20.0 it now jumps two and sometimes three pages at once and even back when it should go forward. Sometimes navigating stalls completely and ID is "thinking" for several seconds before it jumps huge amounts 10-20 pages or completely at the end /beginning of the document. This behaviour is not seen when navigating via the pages palette.

    The documents in question do not have large media files linked where previews have to be updated, they are mostly text on landscape 16:9 pages (think of presentation slides)

    We would need more info on when you are using shift + page up/down key and what is the expectation. Are you using these when in Presentation mode?

    Using page up/down key, does not solve the purpose?

12. provide tool to manage external cross-references

    I am responsible for maintaining and updating a long manual with many cross-references. Most of these cross-references are internal to the book collection, but a significant minority reference specific sections in other books that make up the manual or specific sections in other reference documents external to my organization. The ability to use the cross-reference tools to manage internal cross-references is a godsend. Manually tracking external cross-references, however, is extremely tedious and mistake-prone. Obviously it would not be possible to provide hyperlinks or automatic updating for external cross-references. However, I would still like a way to keep track of them in InDesign.

    I would love for InDesign to provide the following workflow for managing external cross-references:
    1. Provide a way to mark text strings as external cross-references. This could either be within the existing Insert Cross-Reference tool or a separate new tool. Ideally there would be an option to add metadata, such as the title and edition of the external document being referenced.
    2. Provide a way to export an external cross-reference report as .CSV or other table format. This table would list each text string marked as an external cross reference, along with the page number where it appears in the InDesign document and any other metadata defined for that record.
    3. Provide an option to toggle on and off highlighting of text marked as external cross references in InDesign.

13. map Word lists to InDesign lists and paragraph styles

    As the InDesign help documentation notes (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/map-export-manage-styles.html), "Text styles with bullet or number lists may not be copied or exported to a different application with the bullets or numbers intact." The suggested workflow is extremely time-consuming for a long document where every paragraph is assigned to a hierarchical outline structure in Word, since each paragraph has to be manually assigned to the correct paragraph style and the Word outline numbering that was converted to text needs to be manually deleted. In addition, when placing the document, it creates a separate new "imported list" style from each Word list, resulting in hundreds of unused list styles that need to be individually deleted in another tedious process (why isn't there any way to delete all unused Lists? or at least allow me to select multiple for deletion in the Define Lists dialog.)

    A much faster workflow would be the following: in the place Word doc import options, add a section for mapping numbered/lettered lists in Word to InDesign lists and paragraph styles. Allow me to map each Word list hierarchy level to a corresponding InDesign list Level, assigned to a single InDesign list (this is a many-to-one reassignment). Also allow me to map each Word list hierarchy level to a corresponding InDesign paragraph style (this is a one-to-many reassignment, since Word allows multiple list levels in a single list Style).

14. GPU performance and scrubby zoom missing

    I'm using the most up to date version of InDesign and I cannot find my GPU performance anywhere. I wanted to use this to fix scrubby zoom, because my scrubby zoom is gone as well so I can't zoom in and out smoothly now. No matter where I look I can't find anything about GPU performance on any tab in InDesign and I'm starting to get really frustrated. Without GPU performance to fix the zoom, I can't use the program effectively without the scrubby zoom.

15. View menu failing to load

    When I roll over the Plug-Ins menu item, and then scoot over to the View menu item, the full View menu does not load. If I come off the menu header, and then hover directly over the View menu head, the full menu appears.

16. Document dissapearing from view after screenlock

    Every time my screen goes to sleep or autolocks, when I open it back up the document I am working on disappears from view. I can see it is still there as there are a few frame outlines visible, and I am able to save it close it and reopen, then all is fine again but it is a very annoying issue as I have to do this multiple times per day.

17. Overset text

    Hi team, I am having issues with overset text. When I drag my text frame outside of the bleed line into the workspace the icon doesn't appear. As soon as I drag it onto my page the icon shows and if I increase the text frame additional text space appears above the word. There is no text wrap on the text frame and is on a completely different layer so arrangement isn't an issue. Can you please help me fix this issue.

18. Indesign 20.0.01 freezes when updating fonts

    It happens erratically, however, when Indesign needs to update or scan fonts, it freezes -- even if the document uses fonts that are open and available. Only work around is to click on any other app and then click back on Indesign document. This happens on just about any type of Indesign file (blank pages, or pages with lots of texts and font usage).

    We have released InDesign 2025(v20.2.0.036) with many stability fixes. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version (if you’re not already using it) as it is more robust.

    If you are still facing this issue even after updating it, please submit the crash report to us. (Guidelines to submit crash are available at (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html )

19. open type numbers

    in a workaround for another bug in Indesign (Bug: mixed open type numbers) I use a character style for the optentype numbers variety porportional medaevial. Sometimes (!) applying the style to two numbers does not have any effect, it is necessary to apply to a character before and after the numbers to change the style of the numbers.

20. small caps hyphenation bug

    small caps in a hyphenated text sometimes(!) change the first letter before the hyphen to a normal minuscle. See image.

    As shown in the image: "zwi-schen" is correct, "Tradi-tion" (Times New Roman) resp. "Tra-dition" (Ten Oldstyle) shows the bug.
