1. Graphic was exported and printed as gray "fast display" placeholder

   I exported a book and checked that with preflight for missing linked images and correct printing resolutions. everything came back ok. however one picture was not correctly linked and exported as the gray placeholder usually seen when "fast display" is enabled.

   Apparently, the resolution of the gray placeholder is high enough as not to trigger the "too low res"-preflight setting of the printer. They did flag a different picture, which i replaced, but this square was undetected.

   The image was "corrected" by relinking it, even though the linked path was correct and it did not show up in the linkpanel as faulty/missing.

   I can't recreate the issue, so i don't know why the picture (even though it was linked correctly) did not show up or trigger any preflight settings.

2. Online Publishing not taking all images

   Using both InDesign 19 and 18.5, publishing online no longer functions on a Mac running Sonoma 14.1. This issue started days ago. I’ve Packaged projects, saved them locally, and confirmed all images are linked but when I publish them, some images do not tranfer. And it’s random. If I publish over and over again, an image that didnt appear before may make it through. This is a terrible bug for me personally as I rely on digital publishing and sharing interactive presentations for my business.

3. Publish Online Broken Objects

   Publish Online Suddenly not displaying images correctly since 6th November 2023

   Hi there,
   Yesterday I tried to update an InDesign document which I'd published online.
   I had to add some stuff to the document which I then published online with the changes (new publish, not over written) and it seemed to break some of the embedded images. I thought it must be the changes however I did test the back up I had which was an identical document and when publishing it online again some of the images or all of them are broken. Without making any changes in InDesign, Each time I publish online a different thing is broken or restored. (sometimes its 1 image thats broken, sometimes its all of them).

   I decided to move the files to another computer which has a different version of indesign and it produced the same problem. This was on Catalina on InDesign 18.1.2 and also on ventura on InDesign 19 has the same problem.

   Also note here one of the big broken link boxes is actually a text box, not an image. So its not a linked object exlusive problem I don't think.

5. Indesign v19 (2024) changes line breaks of paragraphs in documents created in v18.5 (2023)

   I wanted to export a finished document (a book) made with Indesign Version 18.5 (2023) after updating to Version 19 (2024). After exporting I noticed that the word-wrapping was ruined and images on wrong pages because at some points in the document the line breaks were different and it made the paragraph a line longer than before and thus ruining the following textwrap.

   If I open the document with the old indesign version, everything is fine. I compared the preferences and everything is identical. In both cases the paragraphs use the single-line-composer and the justification is not changed either.

   Is this a bug or a result of different versions? I never really had a problem of wrong line breaks after updating and it's not acceptable when continuously working on multiple projects over the course of months when updating indesign each year is necessary.

6. Chapter number variable doesnt change

   I tried to make the chapter numbers automatic in each chapter, but it doesn't change; it just says "1" in all chapters.

7. cant drag object

   In the middle of working on a document and suddenly can't drag or duplicate objects (alt - drag).

   Indesign is fully up to date. Windows 11.

   I am so freaking sick of all of these bugs. I pay enough for these programs to not cause me so much wasted time. I'm so done. Anyone have a good alternative to Adobe that they like?

   I see some old posts about people having this issue with Photoshop open. I do not have Photoshop open and haven't used it all day.

8. Typing after pasting

   When pasting text in a story, the first character typed after pasting doesn’t work. For example, if I paste the character “s” then try to type “port” (so it becomes “sport”), it will only start typing at the “o,” so I will have “sort” instead of “sport.”

   I have this problem on my MacBook Air as well as on a Windows machine, so it’s not an OS issue

9. Unable to Re-Order Master Pages

   When dragging Master Pages, you can no longer re-order them. In pervious versions, you used to be able to move Master pages to different spots in the order by dragging them between other pages. This feature no longer works. Please bring it back so we can have documents with some better structure and order.

10. iCloud

    When opening files stored on iCloud, most of the time InDesign freezes/crashes (spinning beach ball forever). The file usually opens, but then freezes once you move the cursor around a bit or try clicking a menu, etc. I've tried opening the same files saved to my local drive with no problems. The links in these files also reside on iCloud. If I download the InDesign file first, sometimes it doesn't crash. However, if I have links to update, I have to make sure to update each of them first or InDesign crashes.

11. Not opening

    I keep running into a bug where InDesign won't open. I click the application, get the first loading screen, and then it disappears and closes. I've tried restarting my computer but the issue persists. The only way I've found to fix it is uninstalling and reinstalling the program. It's a pain to have to do it everyday though.

12. Arrowhead scaling percentage no longer accurate

    I have just realised that the arrowhead scaling percentage no longer works as it should.

    Scaling an arrowhead to 50% no longer means that the size is reduced to 50%, it the arrowhead only shrinks to something like 90%.

    Similarliy, a 200% size adjustment gives me around 110% the original size. See image.

    Not even a 1% setting gives me the 50% size I'm looking for.

    I'm on a MBP M3 Max with InDesign 19.1.

    There is an extreme lag when using the Import PDF Comments feature. Sometimes I have to select "Accept" multiple times to activate the comment. And the file is very slow, it can take 20 or 30 seconds for the comment to be applied which is unbearable when working on a large 300+ page book with hundreds of comments. This used to work seamlessly but with the 2024 upgrade it is a total nightmare. I searched the forums and it seems like this has been a problem for some time and has not been fixed—this should be resolved considering this is the primary use of InDesign—layout!

14. No Way to Place Files Saved as "Cloud Documents" (.aic, .psdc, etc.)

    Why is there no apparent way to place files saved as "Cloud Documents"? Eg. I save an Illustrator file as a cloud document on my account (.aic, no local copy), but then there is no way for InDesign to locate that file and place it as a linked or embedded file.

    Illustrator has a button in the file picker window that allows selecting "cloud documents" instead of browsing local files, but there is no such button in the InDesign workflow (as far as I can tell). Photoshop also has a similar button (though only if you choose "Place Embedded", not "Place Linked").

15. Hide blue L brackets onscreen in endnotes

16. Blank Document/Pasteboard when Display Profile Changes

    When the display profile changes, i.e., when using automatic profile switching when room lighting changes (Spyder), document pages and any items on the pasteboard disappear. The rest of the UI remains the same.

    The 'fix' suggested elsewhere is to turn GPU preview off. However, when you do that, clicking on the document/pasteboard makes both flash white and can also make the document jump leftward to the edge of the window.

    The only real fixes are to close and reopen the document(s) or restart InDesign.

    And just in case anyone is tempted to suggest I stop using Spyder or any other display calibrator, please don't.

18. Share for review is not working properly

    I've seen other people comment on this, and have had this crash several times in several different docs, but the Share for Review tool in InDesign is basically broken on a regular basis. Update content constantly just gives me a spinning wheel. The image quality is extremely lo res when reviewing (which was "resolved" by an Adobe team member saying "it would slow down load speed" which in this day in age is frankly absurd. Fix your "Share for Review" feature, I've almost lost two clients to it who thought we sent them garbage and who also needed something delivered on time, but I spent a day figuring out how to get the blue spinning update to go away.

    I've seen other people comment on this, and have had this crash several times in several different docs, but the Share for Review tool in InDesign is basically broken on a regular basis. 19. Page tool will not select a single page on a parent spread when Properties panel is open

    1. Create a Document with Spread and go to parent pages.

    2. Open the Properties Panel, select the Page tool and try to select a single page.

    3. Result: All pages are selected.

    4. Override: Close the Properties panel to be able to select a single page

    A similar post was reported in User Voice in 2021 it was not investigated and never got fixed.

20. Dynamic hyperlinks in endnotes exported to an interactive pdf don't work

    Endnotes within InDesign are dymanic, i.e. you can move between endnote number in body copy to the endnote reference by clicking the number.

    If you export a document with endnotes to a Print pdf these dynamic links are retained, so you can click on a number to go to a reference and vice-versa. This is useful when you have a document of hundreds of pages.

    However, if you export to an Interactive pdf the dynamic links no longer work, which is bizarre, as this is where you need them, not in a print pdf.

    I have a document containing hundreds of endnotes and interactive buttons (to move to the next or previous page). Currently interactive buttons don't work in pdfs exported to print, but endnotes don't work in interactive pdfs, so seemingly you can only have one or the other!

    Version of Adobe InDesign: 2024 19.0
    Steps to reproduce the issues:
    1. Create a document with endnotes
    2. Export to Interactive PDF

    Expected result:
    Endnotes numbers in body text if clicked link directly to the endnote reference at the end of the document, and vice-versa.

    Actual result:
    Endnote numbers and references aren't linked and can't be clicked

    Endnotes within InDesign are dymanic, i.e. you can move between endnote number in body copy to the endnote reference by clicking the number.
