1. icon

   .indd files are not showing up with icons in File Explorer. We have tried verifying default program for file extension, icon file path in the properties, updating graphics drivers, verifying the registry values, Revo uninstalling and then reinstalling, clearing Windows shortcut cache, but nothing is making the .indd files appear with the correct icon. We are using InDesign 2024 installed through Creative Cloud on Windows 11.

3. Crash upon startup (During 'Loading Shortcuts')

   InDesign is crashing every time I try to start it on my desktop machine. Computer is running current InDesign and current Windows OS.

   The InDesign start screen appears, and the progress text proceeds to "Loading Shortcuts," and then does not progress further. After 3-4 minutes, the entire UI of the OS freezes, crashes, and will not restart. I have to restart the computer by holding down the power button.

   I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign, but that did not change the behavior.

   I am completely unable to use InDesign on my main workstation.

4. InDesign only prints empty pages

   After installing InDesign a couple of days ago, I created a simple document containing a PDF and four lines of text. Then I wanted to print it, but InDesign just printed empty pages (two of them even the document had just one page).

   I tried to export it to a PDF file which worked fine. Other INDD documents show the same problem. So InDesign prints only empty pages.

   I'm using Windows 11 Pro, current CC version (just downloaded), a HP Officejet printer connected via WLan (problem also occurs when connecting with USB). When I try to print the exported PDF it works fine.
   All other apps also print finde.

   Restarted the PC a couple of times, deletes settings files (ctrl+alt+shift), etc.

5. line spacing / leading glitches

   I often change line spacing of a single line by selecting the first character of a line and changing the line spacing. Normally, this will adjust line spacing for the one line, but I'm encountering a baffling glitch that changes the line spacing for the line under the affected bit of text where I changed the line spacing. Note that I'm changing the leading of the first character of a new paragraph line. Please see my screen record to see this in action. I have tried this with multiple fonts. I am using the most up to date version.

6. update to v24

   For as long as I can remember, dating back to the early single-digit versions of Adobe products, it was advised to make separate backups of user settings that were often found in obscure directories on a user's own computer. I dared to trust Adobe this time around, hoping that the update to version 24 of InDesign and its option to delete old versions, would respect the user settings that I so painfully put together. FAIL. Adobe failed to maintain them and deleted them from existence. Adobe should be putting a disclaimer on their update process to prompt users of all levels to backup their user settings and provide a link to where these obscure files are normally found. The "gotcha" or "pie-in-the-face" is not appreciated.

8. PAC 2021 Error for InDesign generated PDF : Object reference not set to an instance of an object

   I am still getting Object reference not set to an instance of an object when testing pdf files in PAC 21. This error apparently relates to 'PDF Export using ZIP compression for images shows an “Insufficient data for an image” error on opening in Acrobat.

   This was supposed to be fixed in ID 18.5 but its now happening with every PDF I check for accessibility, even a single page with simple text.

   Working for local government and its imperative our PDF files exported from ID are fully accessible and tested. Seek an urgent fix.

9. Text to Image (Beta) pop-up comes up CONSTANTLY

   This won't go away. He keeps popping up and then dominates the mouse/command prompts. The 'got it" button is hidden below the my icon dock and it disappears before I can hit it and if I do hit it, it keeps popping up anyways.

10. Unknown Script 33 (InDesign 19.5)

    Hello, I'm a Type-Design and I'm currently developing a typeface and encountering an issue during the export process. When attempting to use the font in Adobe InDesign, I receive an error code "Unknown Script 33" upon selecting the font. The typeface includes two styles: plain and italic. The issue seems to be linked to the PostScript name, which varies based on how I rename it in FontLab.

    Notably, the font functions correctly in InDesign when only the plain or italic file is activated individually. The problem might be related to certain TrueType metadata, as indicated by the "(OTF)" label in the InDesign panel.

    Interestingly, the error occurs when the word "trial" is included in the name, but removing it resolves the issue. Any insights or guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

11. full stop vanishes in right to left languages

    When producing Arabic documents in InDesign (which we have been doing for over 30 years) we have recently notice that when saving to PDF that full stops that are at the end of the justified text (parallel to the edge of the text box) disappear in the PDF.

    Why indesign Character & Paragraph side panels don't work anymore and are blank. This is very annoying and sometimes is fixed when you close out the program and reboot but that only works when the stars are aligned correctly.

14. Correct but wrong German translation for Review Panel

    The German translation for »Share for Review« is »Für Review freigeben«. I do not understand why you kept the »Review« in English, but that's not my point here and could be discussed somewhere else.

    There is the Review panel, which can be opened via Window > Comments > Review. In German it should be named »Review« as well, because you did not rename the functionality. Right?

    But, hey, the panels name ist »Überprüfen«. Correct translation, but inconsistent, as you might agree to me.

    So please, change »Überprüfen« to »Review« or change »Review« everywhere else to »Überprüfen«.

15. Problem with endnote formatting when converting to EPUB

    I was converting a print book file to an EPUB using the 19.4 updated version of Indesign. The print file had footnotes on every page.. In the conversion options box, I selected the option to convert footnotes to endnotes, but the formatting of the numbers in the EPUB were not consistent. Each footnote number that was on a new page in the original Indesign files was bigger than the other numbers (see screenshots). To attempt to fix the problem, I converted the footnotes to endnotes in the actual Indesign file before exporting to EPUB. This fixed the numbering issue but added an ugly, thick border around the endnotes (see screenshots). Reverting my Indesign program back to version 19.3, the conversion of footnotes to endnotes in the EPUB transfer worked correctly, and all numbering was uniform.

16. Text Variables Do Not Work with Auto-Size Text Boxes

    When I create a text box that has auto-size (width only) enabled and then insert a text variable (e.g. "modification date"), the entire text variable is collapsed into the width of a single character. It is as if the dynamic width of the text variable causes a bug in the calculation of auto-size, such that the width cannot be determined, and so it all collapses into the width of a single character instead, with all of the characters rendered one on top of the other.

    Very disappointing bug, because dynamic text variables and auto-size are a natural fit for one another.

17. Share for Review strikethrough & replace text from online edits aren't visible in InDesign or online viewer

    Strikethrough & replace text from online comments aren't visible in InDesign or online. the comments are visible although the visual mark up on the page is missing. Ive tested mutliple browsers and all the same.

    Highlighting and draw tool are working correctly.

    Indesign version 19.5. Chrome and Edge browsers.

    This was working as of a couple weeks ago, now is not.

    Two variations of this issue. Both occur when processed by a Fiery RIP. Screen Preview and PitStop show nothing wrong.

    1) PDF starts to RIP, but partway through it fails.

    2) PDF RIPs, but (some) sections of text containing ligatures are substituted for completely wrong glyphs.

    In both cases, re-RIPing the same PDF gets the same error, but exporting a new PDF solves it. (It occasionally takes more than one attempt at re-exporting)

    We also use Xmpie to generate personalized letters, and the glyph error text issue will start at some increment of 100 records and last exactly 100 records before resolving itself and printing correctly.

    This behavior is new, staring when we updated to InDesign 19.#

    Since discovering the glyph substitution issue was only happening to blocks of text that had ligatures, I've started disabling them in our files. I've only been doing so for about a week, but so far I haven't seen that issue happen again, though the exported PDFs still occasionally fail to RIP entirely.

20. Control Bar not usable in an undocked window when using Application Frame

    Most of us here are professionals. Professionals use multi-monitor setups. Some (myself included) may even use the Application Frame feature anyway.

    When I do, and have multiple documents open, I happen to need to undock one of the documents that is open in Tabs and move it to my second monitor so that I can view them both at the same time.

    So I have one document open in the application frame, and on the second monitor I have a floating window of another document.

    If I now have the floating window active and I want to resize an object using the control bar in the application frame, I cannot do so. The dimensions and settings update as I select different objects, but they are all greyed out and unchangeable. I can even select the width or height values and type things in, but they can't be changed by pressing Enter. This is unbelievable since I cannot have a second Control Bar.

    If Adobe spent the money they are putting into AI development, stealing people's creative work and making money out of it, on fixing bugs, they would actually make more money since more people would buy and enjoy their software.

    Please fix your software
