   According to Adobe's documentation, discretionary hyphens should have absolute priority over automatic hyphenation rules. Specifically:

   "Entering a discretionary hyphen in a word does guarantee that the word can be broken only where the discretionary hyphen appears."

   When a word contains a discretionary hyphen that falls within the "After First X Letters" or "Before Last X Letters" prohibited zone, InDesign should:
   1. Respect the discretionary hyphen's exclusivity (only break where discretionary hyphen appears)
   2. Refuse to break the word at all since the only allowed break point falls within the prohibited zone
   3. Not apply automatic hyphenation anywhere else in the word

   Actual Behavior

   InDesign ignores the discretionary hyphen when it falls within the prohibited hyphenation zone and applies automatic hyphenation rules instead, breaking the word at algorithmically-determined positions that fall outside the prohibited zone.

   "Don't Save" and "Cancel" Positions are reversed in Indesign 20.0.

   Why in the world would they do this??? Yet another meaningless update to hinder production.

4. InDesign 2026 shows Damaged document when opening previous version documents from Synology NAS

   InDesign 2026 says that my documents are damaged.
   All documents that are on my Synology NAS. Connected via SMB3.
   (InDesign 2025 works fine.)

   If I quit and restart InDesign 2026 - I can open one file once. Alla files after that is "damaged".
   New file created with InDesign 2026 and saved on NAS works.
   Looks like the issue is with documents from previous version that opens as "converted".
   Only happens on NAS. Not on local files.

   Workaround: Copy indd file to your local drive, open, save and upload back to its original location

   Indesign 2026

5. Deleting an odd number of pages causes the text frame derived from the primary text frame to double

   1. specify a primary text frame for both the left and right pages on the parent page. (figure1)
   2. Delete an odd number of pages. At this time, the parent page is reapplied.
   3. The text frame will be doubled. (figure2)

   Deleting (or adding) an even number of pages will not result in this behavior.
   Deletion/addition of an odd number of pages should not cause doubling.
   Specifically, we would like the text chain of the text frame for which the primary text frame is specified to be retained. (figure3)

   Reference:
   I believe the primary text chain is a feature that was added with the automatic text chain that was in QuarkXPress in mind, but the automatic text chain in QX did not cause duplication when odd number of pages were increased or decreased.

6. [ID-4262670][ERROR(RSC-005) in EPUB Checker]InDesign 20.3 creates target attributes to every link in EPUB

   The latest InDesign version (20.3) creates target="_blank" attributes to every link when exported as EPUB. Doesn't matter if the link contains URL or it's a link from a text anchor. The latest EPUB Check version (5.2.1) gives an error with every link that doesn't have href attribute which means every text anchor is invalid.

   For example:
   <h1 id="_idParaDest-1" class="Header-1"><a id="_idTextAnchor000" target="_blank"></a>Foreword</h1>

   In EPUB Check this is an error:
   ERROR(RSC-005): Error while parsing file: element "a" missing required attribute "href"

   InDesign's GREP engine does not handle the OR operator (|) correctly when used with anchors (^ and $). This behavior differs significantly from standard regex engines and produces unexpected, inconsistent results.

   When using the OR operator with anchors in InDesign GREP, the anchors are interpreted with incorrect precedence, causing the pattern to behave differently than expected. This issue has been confirmed as a bug by Peter Kahrel, author of "GREP in InDesign."

9. Workspace resets every time I open (InDesign 2026)

   On the new InDesign (v21.0) all of my workspaces have been reset and aren't saving properly every time I open a new document. I even set up my docked tabs and tab groups and saved them to a NEW workspace within a fresh 2026 file, and it reset to a default state next time it's opened. It seems to ignore all of the tools I've chosen to remove from their tab groups and opens with all of the default tools within those tab groups.

   The screenshot with all of the icons is what all of my workspaces revert to upon opening InDesign 2026, while the other screenshot is what I've saved my workspace to include.

   On the new InDesign (v21.0) all of my workspaces have been reset and aren't saving properly every time I open a new document. 10. Tagged PDF: contoured text twice in the tagged pdf

    If you give a text a contour and export it as tagged pdf, all glyphs with a contour appear twice in the tags tree.
    The text should only appear once.

    This happens with all InDesign version till 2026 (21).

11. Omitted page ranges are affected by sections

    Summary:
    When describing a page range that omits the first/final page, if there is a starting section in the range, the output results will remain in the page range within the section.

    Verification:
    Create an 8-page document (Figure 1).
    Set the start section on page 5.
    Export the PDF (and print as well) and enter “-6” in the page range (Figure 2).

    Result:
    A PDF of pages 5-6 is exported.
    When the PDF is exported again, the page range is set to “5-6” (Figure 3).

    Ideal result:
    should not be affected by the presence or absence of sections.
    A PDF with pages 1-6 is exported.
    When the PDF is exported again, the page range is populated with “1-6”.

    Note:
    In the above verification, the first page was omitted. Similarly, if the last page is omitted, such as “3-”, only the range of 3-4 pages separated by sections will be exported.
    There is no mention of such a specification in the user guide.

    Verified version and OS:
    InDesign 18.3.0.50
    macOS 14.7.6

12. [ID-4257175]Pages Panel: Buttons are hidden behind page number text when window is thin

    When the pages panel is as thin as possible, the buttons such as delete page are behind the text that says the number of pages. It is therefore not possible to click on the buttons. I always use this panel in a thin band, and it is now less practical.

13. Setting maximum limit above 2000 for "Always subset fonts with glyph counts greater than:" does not work

    By default, the InDesign preference General > Always subset fonts with glyph counts greater than is set to 2000 characters. However, there are many popular fonts that have many thousands of glyphs beyond that and changing this number to a higher glyph count to accommodate those fonts does not work. The fonts are still subset even if the PDF export setting is set to "Subset fonts when percent of characters used is less than 0%."

    Fonts to try:
    Garamond Premier Pro
    Arno Pro

    This is a major problem for files intended for print that require fonts to be fully embedded.

14. [ID-4259367]Error handling dialog shown while placing some TIFF/EPS files

    Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again.

    After I upgraded InDesign 19.5.1 to 19.5.2. Linked images do not show on the page in high quality display settings. I have about 60 linked indesign files into my one file. And I was afraid to upgrade to 20.1 and from Sonoma to Sequoia. Any fixes for this? Perhaps get rid of some of the links.. too many links? 60? 2 page document. Newer M2 MacBook Air.

    Edit: Update: Downgraded back to 19.5.1. Everything is working perfectly. Thanks Adobe for allowing very easy downgrades. EXCELLENT.

15. [ID-4256474]InDesign 2025 removes all PDF export setting files with double-byte and accented characters from InDesign 2024

    During the installation of InDesign 2025, all .joboptions files with PDF export settings were removed, even in the older version 2024! This is absurd!

16. Workspace is still resetting every document. Latest Update has not fixed this yet

    Workspace is resetting every time I open a new document. I received a notification from Adobe that this has been fixed. I've updated and it is not fixed.

    We have released InDesign 2025(v20.2.0.036) with many bug fixes. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version (if you’re not already on it) as it is more robust.

17. [ID-4256547] InDesign 2025 Won't Lock "Constrain Proportions"

    When creating a frame, rectangle, any object, or selecting any other object, InDesign 2025 will not keep Constrain Proportions locked when the lock icon is clicked on the control bar.

    The user now has to click it while they select each object and want to scale an object by scaling either the width or height.

    I didn't notice this at first, but found out from a Reddit post.

    When I apply a preset or a newly created CMYK swatch to MathML, the color does not match the value.
    It appears to be CMYK via RGB color.

    Thank you for trying out the MathML feature in InDesign! The math objects created using this feature are placed as SVGs, and hence they exclusively support RGB colours.If you try to apply a non RGB colour (CMYK/LAB/HSV-based), then by design it is converted to RGB before it is applied to the math object. This conversion is designed to enable users to continue using document colours that are not RGB-based for the math object SVGs.

19. pdf exports to new indd file

    When exporting (interactif or print) to pdf and selecting the option "view pdf after exporting", a new Indd file is created with an editable pdf in it. We can delete the file, but not the pdf (because in use by INDD??) On win 10 and in indesign 2026

20. Shadow

    ID 2026, 21.0 x 64:
    When I move a field/object, the drop shadow is partly not moved to the same place. It appears in different places. See screenshot attached. The text field is grouped, the QR code is not.
