1. [ID-4272089]Grouped objects does not go back to original layers when ungrouped if 'Ungroup Remembers Layer' is enabled

   1. Version of Adobe InDesign is v21.0
   2. Create several layers, put an object on each layer, make sure that 'Ungroup Remembers Layers' is checked, group all objects, and ungroup.
   3. Expected result: all objects remain on the layer they were on before they were grouped.
   4. Actual results: all objects are on the top layer or the highest layer on which there was an object that was within the group

   In my opinion this should be treated as a hotfix. This is ruining the workflow and messes up the files that then need to either be fixed or rolled back to previous versions. I cannot state how urgent this is, it is absurd that a basic option such as this one is suddenly broken.

2. [ID-4280504] AI Generated Alt Text overrode existing Alt Text

   Newly launched 'Automatic AI Generated Alt Text' overrode all my existing custom alt text, which is incredibly frustrating. Although it's an interesting feature it it should NOT change existing alt text. And now I have to redo it because I don't see any history of what I had.

3. [BUG] Generative AI Alt Text setting will turn itself on when importing user settings

   Hello, 
    

   This is my 2nd day this week posting a very frustrating bug on InDesign and I consider this one far worse. In trying to figure out a bug with workspaces on Monday, I exported my current settings, reset InDesign preferences, and imported my settings back in. 

    

   I did not check the settings. I should have. The generate AI Alt-text box had been rechecked, and I had NEVER manually done that. I have recreated this issue more than 5+ in a row by:

    

   1. Resetting my InDesign preferences to the default and restarting.
   2. Reopening InDesign, checking off both Generative AI boxes in preferences
   3. Export those settings, reset preferences back to default on reset, and reopen InDesign
   4. When you reopen InDesign and import your preferences (they should be default with both Gen-AI boxes UNCHECKED), the “Auto-generate Alt Text when placing images” WILL BE TURNED ON EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL.

    
   I cannot explain how upset I am by this bug. I am nearly insisting this broken and destructive feature be pulled from the app because it has only been a nuisance for most users I have spoken to. If there is n feature that can automatically affect 100+ photos in a document, why is there not a feature to automatically remove any changes? Why on earth to I have to manually fix the AI’s mistake that I didn’t even ask for???

    

   I spent the past 3 days working on files that now have had AI Alt text generated for them without me knowing. I have had those settings off since they first came out. 

    

   I have absolutely no way to know which files have been affected because AFAIK there is no history log.

    

   BONUS TIME!!

    

   I would also love to point out that the Alt-text tag is affected by layers. If your photo bleeds behind an object, the alt text symbol will be hidden. Maybe this is not new, but almost feels like another step to further hide AI alt text generation from users. 

    

    

   This bug has pretty much broken me on this problem and made me furious. Are there even bug testers for these features? I am a designer, not a software engineer, yet this is my second InDesign bug found this week that has seriously impacted my workflow and made me take time out of my work day to address it. I am furious. At this point I feel I deserve compensation lmao.

4. Completely incorrect alt text for white logotypes on a dark colored background

   I got an Illustrator file with a white colored logotype. I place this in InDesign on a dark background.

   Now I use Adobes in-build alt text generator, and the text is absolutely dumb.

   In my example (I tried it with several logotypes):

   "Zwei Erwachsene sitzen an einem Tisch und spielen ein Brettspiel mit bunten Spielfiguren in einem gemütlichen Raum mit Pflanzen und Bücherregalen."

   which means in English
   "Two adults are sitting at a table playing a board game with colorful game pieces in a cozy room with plants and bookshelves."

   No issues if the logotype is black on a white background.

   Black on white = correct alt-text
   White on color = totally wrong alt-text

5. [ID-4257184]InDesign 2025(v20.0) Performance issues: Delay or beach balls on basic operations

   Problem: 

   InDesign Performance issues: Delay or beach balls observed on basic operations on Macintosh

   Steps to Reproduce:

   • We have reproduced one scenario in which the existence of the Documents Font Folder and Contextual Task bar results in some slowness.
   • Other workflows causing slowness are being investigated - No reliable reproducible steps

   Impacted workflows:

   • Switching to InDesign
   • Open/Closing of Document
   • Edit/Scroll/Copy-paste/Highlight operation on Text
   • Text disappears, illustrations disappear
   • Imported or added text turns black until a style is applied.
   • Font menu highlight not following my mouse movement
   • Text will not change fonts until I click the mouse inside or outside the text box.
   • Resize a document window, the corner flies below the screen border
   • Click or Drag of the mouse
   • Switching between tools
   • "Waiting for UXP plugins to finish up remaining tasks."

   Workaround:

   • Disable Contextual Task Bar or remove Documents Font Folder
   • Close the MAGNET application
   • Revert to InDesign 19.5, No performance lag is observed.
   • Restarting the machine and trashing the preferences seems to resolve the issue temporarily
   • Disabling any font manager software seems to resolve the issue. One customer confirmed that disabling "Rightfont" resolved the issue.
   • Uninstall-Reinstall seems to resolve the issue temporarily
   • Turn off Preflight seems to resolve the issue temporarily

   Note:

   1. The issue seems to be specific to the MAC platform only. Impacted macOS (Sequoia, Sonoma, Ventura(maybe), Monterey)
   2. The issue seems to be specific to the MAC devices
      • Apple MacBook Pro M1/M2/M3
      • Apple MacBook Air M1/M2/M3
      • Apple Max Studio M1/M2/M3
      • Apple Mac mini M1/i7 Intel
   3. The issue exists for both old and new documents

   Additional information needed:

   1. Are you opening the indd documents from the folder containing the Documents Font Folder?
   2. Is the "Contextual Task bar" shown? If yes, Disable it from "Window->Contextual Task bar"
   3. Screenshot of Memory usage while the issue is observed
   4. Please follow the below steps for InDesign 20.0.1.32 and InDesign PR 20.1.066 on Macintosh
      • Open Terminal in full-screen mode
      • Drag the InDesign application on the terminal (e.g. "/Applications/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2025/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2025.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2025")
      • Copy the logs when you start facing the slowness in a text(.txt) file. Share the file with us at sharewithID@adobe.com.

   We have made some Performance Improvements in the latest InDesign Release 2025 (Version 20.1), available via Creative Cloud Desktop application. This issue has also been fixed as part of performance improvements.

6. InDesign 21.4.1 buffering indefinitely after a few edits and won't save (Windows 11)

   I can make a few changes in non-corrupted files which are fine, but then I get the spinning wheel forever. My cursor still moves and can click things, but I can't undo (ctrl+z) or save. Then the app won't close, it has to be force closed through Task Manager. I have closed and reopened the app, checked for updates, updated restarted my computer, tried other files, nothing works. My other apps work fine and I have no other issues with buffering or freezing.

7. [ID-4275927, ID-4271158] Drop shadow changing position and shape on rotated objects and exporting incorrectly to PNG

   Drop shadows move unexpectedly on rotated objects. It creates a visual glitch that can be seen toggling Overprint Preview On/Off.

   Incorrect drop shadow can be seen in PNG export.
   Correct drop shadow can be seen in PDF.

   To recreate the bug:

   1) Draw a shape or a create a text frame
   2) Apply a drop shadow to the object (any setting, video is with Adobe default)
   3) Rotate the object
   4) Move the object around the live page until the drop shadow starts moving unexpectedly (offset varies).
   5) Export to PNG.

   InDesign 21.2
   Sequoia 15.7.3
   Macbook Pro M4 Max

   This was not observed in version 20 of InDesign. This is a significant bug as it creates a working file that does not reflect exports.

8. Image containers deselects everything else

   The usual workflow is to select multiple assets and move them across the page with one click and drag. In this case I have 3 elements—a graphic container that has a photo pasted inside; beneath it a shape and a text box on top.
   The bug is that when I have all three selected and I click on the image container, everything else gets deselected and only the image container remains selected (as if I clicked on it for the first time).
   The workaround is to select all 3 elements and click on the text box or the shape in order to move them all.

   The same happens when I want to align elements to graphic containers—I can select 2+ elements but as soon as I select the graphic container to be the parent to which the other graphics should align to, everything gets deselected. Doesn't happen with shapes and text boxes.

   Using Adobe InDesign 21.4 on MacOS Tahoe 26.5.1.

   This happened after the latest InDesign update.

9. Bug in 21.4 and 21.4.1 not recognize the local TrueType font

   After updating to InDesign 21.4 and 21.4.1, I encountered a major bug regarding font management, specifically with local TrueType fonts (like Futura TT).

   ISSUE SYMPTOMS:
   1. InDesign 21.4 does not recognize the local TrueType font anymore. The text appears highlighted in pink (substituted font) and the font name appears in square brackets like [Futura (TT)].
   2. In the "Find/Replace Font" dialog, it says "Missing Fonts: 0", but the substitution remains active and the text is not rendered correctly.
   3. Placing the correct .ttf files into the "Document Fonts" folder is completely ignored by version 21.4.

   TROUBLESHOOTING DONE:
   - Cleared Adobe font caches and deleted .lst files (no effect).
   - Reset InDesign preferences (no effect).

   PROOF OF THE BUG:
   I performed a downgrade to InDesign 21.3. Opening the exact same file (.indd and .idml) with the exact same font files on the exact same Mac works perfectly. Version 21.3 recognizes the font instantly and the pink highlight disappears.

   This is clearly a regression/bug introduced in the 21.4 update regarding how InDesign handles local TrueType fonts when a system font conflict occurs. Please look into this.

   • InDesign Version: 21.4 and InDesign Version: 21.4.1
   • OS: macOS

11. [ID-4246352]NIKKUD (accents/diacritics) selection has become invisible

    InDesign version: v20 (both Mac & PC)

    Hebrew letters can use NIKKUD - vocalization diacritical marks (function like Vowels) under/above the letter.

    • In previous versions (-2023) it was possible to select only the NIKKUD (attached image) of the letter. (in order to specify the position of the NIKKUD using the Diacritic Positioning panel or to change color, etc.)
    • In the current version (2024-2025) the selection is on the entire letter, and there is no visual indication whether the letter or the NIKKUD is selected (attached image).

    Note: Sometimes there are two NIKKUD characters and even in such a case in the past it was possible to choose each separately (attached image)

12. [ID-4273319] InDesign 2026 shows Damaged document when opening previous version documents from Synology NAS

    InDesign 2026 says that my documents are damaged.
    All documents that are on my Synology NAS. Connected via SMB3.
    (InDesign 2025 works fine.)

    If I quit and restart InDesign 2026 - I can open one file once. Alla files after that is "damaged".
    New file created with InDesign 2026 and saved on NAS works.
    Looks like the issue is with documents from previous version that opens as "converted".
    Only happens on NAS. Not on local files.

    Workaround: Copy indd file to your local drive, open, save and upload back to its original location

    • macOS (Darwin 25.5)
    • Regression: the same document exports correctly in InDesign 2025 and earlier.

    Summary

    Exporting a page to Fixed-Layout EPUB fails with an uncatchable Error -29 "Uncaught exception" when
    the page contains a large placed raster image together with a vector shape from an
    Illustrator-style drawn illustration. The minimal reproducer is just two objects: one large image
    plus any single one of those illustration shapes (even a simple 4-point polygon). Removing the image,
    or removing the vector shape, makes it export. The error aborts the scripting engine (not catchable with
    try/catch); from a panel, the export call never returns.

    Steps to reproduce

    1. Open min_test.indd (one page: a large image + one vector shape). Or build it: place a large image (~5300×7900 px) on a page and add a vector shape that came from a drawn/imported illustration.
    2. Export to Fixed-Layout EPUB (File > Export… → EPUB (Fixed Layout), or doc.exportFile(ExportFormat.FIXED_LAYOUT_EPUB, file, false)).

    Expected result

    The EPUB is produced, as in InDesign 2025 and earlier.

    Actual result

    Export fails with Error Number: -29, "Uncaught exception."

    What was ruled out (controlled, single-variable tests)

    • The image: any large image works (56 MP alone exports fine); the specific file/metadata is irrelevant (pixel data byte-identical, metadata kept or stripped — still fine alone).
    • Cumulative load: 8 images totalling 133 MP, or a big image + up to 400 generated shapes, export fine.
    • Transparency, strokes, compound paths, bezier curves, rich-CMYK fills: a big image + generated shapes carrying any/all of these export fine (9 separate fabrication attempts).
    • Document context / page count / fonts: the page reproduces it alone as a one-page document with the document fonts substituted; other pages and text are not involved.
    • Shape complexity / count: a single simple real shape reproduces it just as a complex one does.

    => The trigger is the large image + a single real vector shape whose internal path representation
    (from an Illustrator-style illustration) cannot be reproduced by scripted/generated geometry. It is
    not size, color, transparency, complexity, count, fonts, or document context.

    Reproducer

    min_test.indd (attached) — a one-page document with a large image + one real vector shape — reproduces
    on export. Package it (File > Package) so the linked image travels.

    Workaround

    Downsample the placed image (changes the image enough to clear the export), or remove/relocate the
    vector illustration from the page.

    Summary

    Exporting a page to Fixed-Layout EPUB fails with an uncatchable Error -29 "Uncaught exception" when
    the page contains a large placed raster image together with a vector shape from an
    Illustrator-style drawn illustration. The minimal reproducer is just two objects: one large image
    plus any single one of those illustration shapes (even a simple 4-point polygon). Removing the image,

14. InDesign v21.4 crashing every 5 minutes

    Since my update to v21.4 today, InDesign 2026 has been crashing on me every 5 minutes - once was under a minute of opening, while I was reading about a missing font.

15. [ID-4243320] Incorrect cursor movement in RTL text when Harfbuzz text shaping is used.

    InDesign version: v20 (both Mac & PC)

    In right-to-left languages ​​(Hebrew & Arabic) the cursor movement went crazy:
    - Left key - goes up
    - Right key - jumps to the end of the line...
    We can't work that way

    Note: both (23\25 indd) set to 'Visual' in preferences > right-to-left > cursor movement (of course, changing the setting to 'logical' doesn’t solve it)

16. AI Alt-text generation german InDesign

    Since InDesign 21.2 Alttext can be generated by AI.
    Even if this does not work in a german version, the german interface for defining Alt-text looks destroyed.
    The input window is to large and has no frame on the right side.
    The text description for AI is to lang and cut off.

17. [ID-4281595] Share for Review Comment Emails Render Raw HTML Instead of Formatted Text

    Share for Review email notifications contain raw HTML code in the message body. Comment text is wrapped in visible <pre style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; white-space:pre-line;"> tags that render as code rather than formatted text, making the emails difficult to read. The HTML should be rendered, not displayed as raw markup.

18. [ID-4276616][Win]InDesign 21.x does not launch after Windows update due to corrupt VCRuntime

    Indesign and some other products are failing to open, and it all related to the Microsoft C++ Redistributable, we just have to repair it and it starts working again.
    Please work with Microsoft on the issue, something is happening that is making it very very hard to manage and work with InDesign because of the problem. I think it is happening with other Adobe products too

    Cumulative update appears to be removing the msvcp140.dll, vcruntime140.dll and vcruntime140_1.dll from the C:\Windows\System32 directory

    Investigations currently by Microsoft

    The investigation is currently ongoing with both the Microsoft VC++ team and the MSI development team. Current findings indicate multiple contributing factors behind the reported VC runtime corruption and installation issues.

    Capture additional logging via the [Introduction to TroubleShootingScript toolset (TSS) - Windows Client | Microsoft ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/windows-tss/introduction-to-troubleshootingscript-toolset-tss), to generate a DND_SetupReport and share it with sharewithID@adobe.com

    • Download and unzip toolset from:  https://aka.ms/getTSS
    • Launch an elevated Powershell prompt
    • Run the following to ensure the script can be executed: Set-ExecutionPolicy -scope Process -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Force
    • Capture the installation data by running the tss script as follows: .\TSS.ps1 -Collectlog DND_SetupReport
    • Zip the resulting C:\MS_DATA folder containing the files, and upload to the File Transfer site.

19. [ID-4273456] Press the opt/alt key after dragging, it duplicated to the incorrect layer

    InDesign 2026 （and earlier, too）I was found out in CS6.

    Issue:
    When drag and duplicate any object, the duplicate destination will be the previous active layer under certain conditions.

    Reproduction procedure:
    1 Layer panel "Paste Remembers Layers" check off
    2 Unselect, and duplicate the object Activate layers other than the layers of the object
    3 Start dragging and add the option/alt key in the middle of dragging
    4 After dragging, the object is duplicated to the layer that was active in step 2

    Ideal result:
    The uplication by dragging will be duplicated to the same layer as the original regardless of any setting.

    I really hope to correct it.

    理想の結果
    ドラッグによる複製はいかなる設定にも関係なくオリジナルと同一のレイヤーに複製されること

20. (InDesign)Problem with metadata after conversion v15 to v20

    After converting some old .indd files to v20 from v15 I see that custom metadata is completely wrong. I’d assume that during conversion InDesign finds old metadata packets and set incorrect values
    Here is the cimpress:Id value we have before conversion which is correct(pic1)

    But after conversion to v20(v19 works correct) I got something like this(pic2):
    To convert the file you need to simply open BEFORE_CONVERSION.indd in v20 Indesign

    Expected result is cimpress:Id have same value as pic1.png
    Actual result is pic2.png
    Is it possible to fix conversion process somehow, because it breaks a lot of flows and makes migration to the new InDesign versions impossible?
