1. (InDesign)Problem with metadata after conversion v15 to v20

   After converting some old .indd files to v20 from v15 I see that custom metadata is completely wrong. I’d assume that during conversion InDesign finds old metadata packets and set incorrect values
   Here is the cimpress:Id value we have before conversion which is correct(pic1)

   But after conversion to v20(v19 works correct) I got something like this(pic2):
   To convert the file you need to simply open BEFORE_CONVERSION.indd in v20 Indesign

   Expected result is cimpress:Id have same value as pic1.png
   Actual result is pic2.png
   Is it possible to fix conversion process somehow, because it breaks a lot of flows and makes migration to the new InDesign versions impossible?

   Our preliminary analysis indicates that this issue may be an isolated scenario. We have identified a workaround that can help resolve the issue.

   Please rename the following folders:

   – Rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from:

   • macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe

   • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

   If that doesn't help, rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from:

   • macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe and ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

   • Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

   Once done, relaunch InDesign and check again.

3. Tiny bug within the German UI: GREP style sub menu is missing "aus"

   Please add the German word " aus" (more correct: a space and the word aus) after "Mehrere Zeilen" in the GREP style sub menu within the German InDesign.

   This " aus" (= "off") is missing since at least v2016!

   Screenshot 1 shows the english version, srceenshot 2 how it should look like in German(of course not in red color).

4. [ID-4265002][ExtendScript] Folder.execute() no longer works in Indesign 20.4

   Folder.execute() no longer reveals the folder and activate the Finder. It does nothing. Tested on Indesign 20.4 on MacOS 15.5.

   Steps to reproduce:

   1. Run this ExtendScript:

5. InDesign Color Settings Are Overwritten by Other Versions

   Summary:
   InDesign is unable to maintain separate color settings for each version. Whenever a different version is activated, the color settings are forcibly overwritten by the last activated version.

   Steps to Reproduce:
   Launch InDesign 2025 and set the color settings to “Preset A” (e.g., a print vendor’s recommended settings).
   Launch and activate InDesign 2024.
   Without any warning, InDesign 2024 will adopt the same Preset A color settings.
   This also occurs in the opposite direction: activating either version will overwrite the other’s previously configured color settings.

   Expected Behavior:
   Like Photoshop and Illustrator, InDesign should maintain independent color settings for each version.

   Actual Behavior:
   InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Bridge all write the currently selected color setting preset to the shared sync file:
   ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Color/ACEConfigCache2.lst
   This file is what allows Bridge to synchronize color settings across Adobe apps.

   However, InDesign is the only application that overwrites the settings record for another version of InDesign, regardless of version.

   Root Cause:
   All apps use the same file, but only InDesign fails to differentiate versions.
   This causes one version of InDesign to overwrite the color settings of another—simply by being activated.

   Commentary:
   This behavior disrupts professional workflows.
   In environments such as print production where different versions of InDesign must use different color settings (e.g., for different clients or print vendors), this is a critical issue.

   InDesign should follow the same behavior as Photoshop and Illustrator:
   Write version-specific entries to ACEConfigCache2.lst, and avoid overwriting other versions’ settings.

6. PDF preset: color output settings aren't being applied V21.0.2

   My company has been using the same PDF preset for a couple of years now. Since updating to V21.0.2, the color output settings specified in the preset are not being applied. I tried creating a new preset and the color output settings are still the default, instead of the very specific color settings I need applied for the print vendor we send files to.

   Could you share more details about the PDF Preset? What were the Color Output settings that are no longer getting applied in 21.0.2, can you show us some screengrabs?

7. Duplicated layers when placing Illustrator files

   When an Illustrator file is placed in InDesign, the tab with Layer options shows multiple versions of the same layers. The number of layers is multiplied by the number of artboards.

   I see this issue with newly created Illustrator files. The older .ai files are placed correctly.

8. How do you disable the new "Alt Text" icon that shows in the lower-left corner of image frames?

   It's like the AI feature that was added in Illustrator. I can't find an option to disable it and it's very distracting. It looks like a mistake in the artwork and will stay the same size regardless of zoom level. Disabling the two Alt Text features in Generative AI preferences did NOT fix this.

9. Drop shadow changing position and shape on rotated objects and exporting incorrectly to PNG

   Drop shadows move unexpectedly on rotated objects. It creates a visual glitch that can be seen toggling Overprint Preview On/Off.

   Incorrect drop shadow can be seen in PNG export.
   Correct drop shadow can be seen in PDF.

   To recreate the bug:

   1) Draw a shape or a create a text frame
   2) Apply a drop shadow to the object (any setting, video is with Adobe default)
   3) Rotate the object
   4) Move the object around the live page until the drop shadow starts moving unexpectedly (offset varies).
   5) Export to PNG.

10. [ID-4272869] InDesign adds Blank space to top during PNG export for converted documents

    I booted up 2026 (version 21.0) and opened a file that I was working on literally yesterday. I have a text box over a solid fill background shape. When I exported them both together yesterday, it worked as expected. Today, it exports with an obnoxious blank space (or filled space if I uncheck "Transparent Background") at the top.

    Absolutely nothing changed with the file, it's just happening in 2026 and not in 2025. Comparison attached.

11. AI Generated Alt Text overrode existing Alt Text

    Newly launched 'Automatic AI Generated Alt Text' overrode all my existing custom alt text, which is incredibly frustrating. Although it's an interesting feature it it should NOT change existing alt text. And now I have to redo it because I don't see any history of what I had.

12. Tagged PDF: contoured text twice in the tagged pdf

    If you give a text a contour and export it as tagged pdf, all glyphs with a contour appear twice in the tags tree.
    The text should only appear once.

    This happens with all InDesign version till 2026 (21).

14. Variable fonts are clipped during instancing

    When exporting a document containing a variable font to a PDF, larger styles are clipped in some environments, and by some printers.

    Version: Adobe InDesign 21.2 v64
    Operating system: Windows 11 Pro 25H2
    Example PDF environment: Canon iR-ADV C5860 printer, UFRII_v10.19.21 driver

    Reproducing:
    1. Create an empty document
    2. Select a variable font (e.g. the OFL Noto Sans VF, https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Sans)
    3. Select a heavier or wider style than the default (clipping.indd)
    4. Export to PDF, with default settings (clipping.pdf)

    Expected: Text is as seen prior to exporting (expected.png)
    Actual: Text is clipped and illegible in some environments (simulated in actual.png)

    Root cause:
    This happens because the instanced fonts contained in the PDF do not have updated bounds in their glyf table glyph headers (bounds.png). To be OpenType specification compliant, these must instead cover the new outlines with variations applied in full. Without this, some rasterizers will clip to the prior bounds, making text illegible.

15. AI-generated Alt Text for images should NOT be on by default

    Gross decision to have this "feature" on by default. Good thing I didn't miss the popup on startup, I NEVER want any AI features at all ever, let alone to have to OPT OUT? Madness. Also ridiculous is the option to turn off the the "AI generated content" tag on this "feature" at all. Why would you allow that? I guess it's in line with all of the untagged AI on Adobe Stock lol.

16. AI content labelling

    Hi, I just opened indesign to see my own work labelled as AI generated. I haven't used any AI tools to produce any of my data, yet it appears as such in many instances. Are these metadata stores upon export too? How is Adobe going to address this? This basically robs me of my copyrights. Would appreciate if this was only toggle on/off feature, and not the default.

17. Drawing a line with a 0 pt stroke and changing its length triggers the error "Cannot set stroke box."

    1. Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
       Windows 10; Japanese-language Adobe InDesign, from a version of InDesign CC 2025 (20.3.2–20.5.1?) up to CC 2026 (21.3, latest).

    2. Steps to reproduce the issues
       Draw a path with the Line Tool or Pen Tool using a stroke weight of 0 pt, then change the path length by entering a numeric value.

    3. Expected result
       The length should change.

    4. Actual result
       An error appears: "Cannot set stroke box."

18. [ID-4260604] InDesign with Typeface app is going in Protective Shutdown on document close

    Customer Scenario1

    Brand new Indesign 20.2: open any document, change nothing in it and close it. Indesign gives a warning and then crashes.
    MacOS 15.3.1 (24D70), Macstudio M2, I have reset all personal prefs, I am using Typeface app. This didn't happen with 20.1

    Customer Scenario2

    Doing a data merging of a .CSV file.

    Result

    InDesign is going in Protective Shutdown for few scenarios

    Workaround

    • Deactivate the Typeface app and continue to work with InDesign v20.2.0.36
    • Rolling back to InDesign 20.1.0.71 to continue to work with the Typeface app

19. Workspace resets every time I open (InDesign 2026)

    On the new InDesign (v21.0) all of my workspaces have been reset and aren't saving properly every time I open a new document. I even set up my docked tabs and tab groups and saved them to a NEW workspace within a fresh 2026 file, and it reset to a default state next time it's opened. It seems to ignore all of the tools I've chosen to remove from their tab groups and opens with all of the default tools within those tab groups.

    The screenshot with all of the icons is what all of my workspaces revert to upon opening InDesign 2026, while the other screenshot is what I've saved my workspace to include.

    On the new InDesign (v21.0) all of my workspaces have been reset and aren't saving properly every time I open a new document.
