Alert is shown on opening documents in InDesign(v19.4.0.63) - "This file is already open by another user or another application."
After updating InDesign to V19.4, I'm now locked out of many of my previous design files. I'm receiving the error, "This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it."
I reinstalled V19.3 and can now access these old files but I would prefer to use the most up to date version if possible. happy to provide a sample if needed.
44 votesThe fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2024(v19.5.0.084). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

QR-code color does not get updated with changed color swatch
If I change a colour in the Swatches Panel that has been used in a QR-Code, the QR code does not automatically update. I have to open the “Edit QR-Code” options dialogue to validate the colour (select it again). As you can see in the screenshot, the changed colour is selected but not reflected in the QR-Code that it has been applied to.
The expected result would be that that the QR-code color updates as soon as the color swatch has been changed.

Lag in 20.0 and higher
The lag in 20.0 and its updates is hard to stomach. We pay a lot for this app and it is VERY difficult to work with these issues. Evey time I click on something in a document - no matter how large a file - there is lag. Text boxes, images, color shapes/boxes. I have a brand new Mac Studio with Apple M2 Ultra and 128GB Memory - I have more than enough power to support your app. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE. I have tried all of the troubleshooting offered to no avail, and I shouldn't have to trouble shoot…

selecting text boxes
InDesign 20.2 Mac M1 Sequoia 15.4.1. When I click a text box to select it, nothing happens until I jiggle the mouse. When this happens the corner boxes appear. However, many times when I click, nothing appears selected. This bug is unsettling. This is why I prefer to use InDesign 19 for important jobs. The text block in the attached screen shot has been single clicked.

[ID-4257736]InDesign hangs when placing CJK tagged text with ruby
I'm currently using ID 2024, but I have tested other versions of ID, back to CS6, and they all have the same problem. I'm currently running Windows 11, but the problem also occurs in Windows 10.
Steps:
- Install the Adobe font family, Source Han Sans TW, on your computer.
- Download TaggedText.zip and unzip it
- Open InDesign in the CJK version
- Create a new document with these grid attributes: Direction = Vertical; Font = Source Han Sans TW, Normal; Size = 16 pt; Vertical = Horizontal = 100%; Char Aki = 0 pt; Line Aki = 10 pt; Characters = 40;…

Stuck on adding font, other background task get stuck in queue that never clears
Occasionally I open a document that tries to add fronts in background, it fails then the task is added to Background Tasks and hangs indefinitely. Then if I try to export a PDF, it is added to background tasks but will not progress until the fonts are added, which they never finish loading.

variable fonts
In a TrueType based variable font, if some nodes have implied deltas at the edge of outline, that edge can jump around as seen in the attached video. The right stem of the "n" should stay on the baseline. And it does in all other environment that I tested (Illustrator, Photoshop, Chrome, Safari …).
I tried to attach the font but get an error that .ttf and .zip files are not allowed. Here is a link to the file in dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/69ynar0ds0k44fhsuge2j/ImpliedDeltasVF.ttf?rlkey=zccl17cd67ru4oat5qlt2eb99&st=c469cifb&dl=0

[ID-4257194]page numbers on documents don't match page numbers in book window or pages pane
Ever since InDesign updated from version 19.5 to version 20, the current page number marker on my master pages will not sync. Now, every document in my book just starts from page 1. So, in other words, every chapter starts over at page 1. Please help. I've included a screen grab of my problem. You'll see that the page numbers on the actual document don't match the page numbers indicated in the pages window or in the book window. I've redone the marker in the master pages and resynced, but no dice...

2025 InDesign (v20.0) Frequent Crashing on MacOS 15.0.1 Sequoia
Ever since the 2025 version of InDesign released earlier this month, I have had constant crashing issues while working on multiple files. I have been using MacOS 15 Sequoia since it released in September. At first it seemed to crash at random every 5-30 minutes while going between open indd tabs. I think I can more consistently trigger it now by trying to open/navigate around a .indt file. I have a screen recording attached of me clicking around with a 2025 .indt file, a 2025 .indd file, and a 2024 .indd file. Within this minute long recording, InDesign crashes twice,…

Character style applied to Table of Contents header
When creating a book's table of contents (TOC), if you apply a character style to the first chapter, that style is applied to the TOC entry but it's also wrongly applied to the TOC header as well. It seems to be taking whatever character style that's applied to the first letter in the first chapter.
I have a sample file I can send.
Tested in InDesign 2024 and 2022 for Mac.
