  1. Feature Request: Support for Grayscale ICC profiles

Please add support for Grayscale profiles like in Photoshop. In InDesign, I can only define RGB and CMYK working space. In Photoshop, I can also define color space for grayscale files and files with spot colors.
Many books, magazines or newspapers are still printed using black ink only. Minimal support for grayscale workflow makes creating monochrome documents for different papers complicated as InDesign cannot convert grayscale profiles (ie. from Dot Gain 15% to Dot Gain 25%).

  2. Custom Interactive Button Hotspots

I would like the ability to customize the shape of the hotspot that appears on an object given the button function.

For example, if I create an oval and convert it to a button, I would like to apply state changes when I rollover only on the shape of the oval. Currently we're limited to a 0/90 degree container that encompasses the entirety of the object.

I'm unsure if this is a PDF format limitation.

  3. Path elements as Artifact

To create an accessible PDFs it’s essential to either tag relevant content or mark irrrelevant content as Artifact. In InDesign you can use the object export options to mark an object as “Artefact”.

So far so good, however any path elements from tables or underlined/strikethrough text are not marked at all. Obviously, those always need to be marked as an Artifact. InDesign should do this automatically during the pdf export process. Please fix that, it’s extremly time consuming to fix that manually in Acrobat.

  4. No repeat option wanted for headers and footers in table options

When you've got headers and footers in tables, there is no way to prevent them from repeating at all.

There are currently three options in InDesign Table Options:
    1. Every Text Column
    2. Once per Frame
    3. Once per Page

I'd like to see an option for "NONE" or "NO REPEAT".

I can also think of "Once per Spread" as a valid setting, but NONE is the most important, since the current solution is to convert the headers to body rows, and that destroys the information about the header rows actually being headers.

  6. Improvement Indesign Accessibility Features

I use Indesign to create accessible PDFs but there are a few features that should be there.

    TABLES
Automatic Header Column and Header Row tagging. At the moment Header Column is recognized but not Header Row. If this was implemented you could go a step further and add ID tags and scope automatically. This would be a huge time saver since this all has to be done manually in Acrobat. It would also be nice to have an option to specify the Title of the table as a caption tag.

    FOOTNOTES
At the moment you have to add the…

  8. Import controls for Libraries

Provide an option to control how a Library item imports into InDesign. Since Libraries created from AI are treated as PDF, they place with the Bounding Box (Visible Layers) option if the user hadn't changed the PDF Import options. There is no way to control the import into Photoshop, as Photoshop doesn't remember the last PDF import option, unlike InDesign.

  9. Let Crop Mark offset reflect Bleed size by default

When exporting a .pdf, I find myself correcting that value over and over.
In most cases we want the cropmarks not to overlap the bleed, because that would make the bleed useless.

e.g: I set Bleed to 3mm, but the Crop Mark offset stays 2,117mm

Please let InDesign copy the Bleed value to the Crop Mark Offset value automatically.

  10. Keep InDesign in background while creating PDF (or any task), unless input needed for alert or error.

Mac OS, ID 18 (2023). While outputting a PDF or some other process that can take some time, I often switch to a different task -- but InDesign will make itself pop to the front multiple times partway through the process, usually without any input needed from me. Is necessary to switch back to the other program I am using again and again. The disruption wastes time and sometimes causes problems because I was in the middle of typing or moving the cursor when the window unexpectedly switches.

  11. DATA MERGE - Multiple or Single Page Import from Ai or PDF

I would like to be able to import multiple artboards or pages from an Illustrator file or PDF document when using Data Merge.

    For example:

    Column K
    @Images
    R:\Customer\SALES ORDERS\SOnumber\Working\01-0001.ai:1 ( Design to be printed in Artboard 1 )

    Column L
    @Images
    R:\Customer\SALES ORDERS\SOnumber\Working\01-0001.ai:2 ( Spot colours listed in Artboard 2 )

I use Data Merge for creating Prepress proofs for large orders, and we have to show the design to be printed and the spot colours used on each document.

The issue is that InDesign won't list the colours used per page only per document, so my solution is…

  12. Add an option to rasterize chosen graphic objects on export (especially vectors)

Often we have to work with vectors, and often they take up a lot of space, which leads to the growth of the final PDF document and the slow rendering of the document in browsers. The trick with reducing transparency, when we make the selected frames 99% opaque and turn on the flattener, does not always give a good quality result and can cause stitching.
I suggest adding the option "rasterize" to the settings of the style of the graphic frame, so during the export the vector object is replaced with a raster copy. The quality settings for rasterization can…

  13. Let me export page ranges to separate PDFs

I typed in page ranges to export (i.e. 1-2, 3-4, 5-6) and was just stuck with each page in a separate PDF. Was surprised that exporting page ranges to separate PDFs was not already functional using this method.

  15. Ability to embed PDF files within an InDesign file (not place pages)

It would be ideal to have the ability to embed PDF's within an offline InDesign File (as you can do with Microsoft Word).
Example use: embedding updated documents in to a company newsletter

  16. Need MORE features in InDesign's FORM tools.

We need more controls in InDesign's FORMS tools.

Although this was requested in https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/20482882-more-options-when-creating-forms-via-indesign, it was closed after font controls were added.

That's Not Enough! In fact, it's probably the least needed form feature of all.

The short list of what's needed:

    — Add calculations and formula to a form field.

    — Add JavaScripts and other programming to a form field.

    — Color the background fill of a form field...and have it "stick" in the PDF, not be overridden by the user's Acrobat settings.

    — When using tables to create a matrix of form fields for layout purposes,…

  17. Artifact dot leaders

When dealing with accessibility compliance and Table of Contents, it is best practice to artifact the dot leaders so the user does not have to listen to "dot dot dot" or "35-dot" before each page number. If we could assign a artifact TAG to the leader in the panel when we create the TOC settings that would save HOURS of work on the PDF side having to artifact each one.

  19. Resize Document including Content

I know Liquid Layout, but I would love to have something simpler:
If I resize a document, I would like to have the option to have the content be resized by the same percentages.

We often have to change the measurement of documents to accommodate different printing requirement. What we do now, is export a pdf and import it to a new document with a script. PDF ist resized proportionally on placement.

  20. Add image sharpening before output

We should be able to apply sharpening (such as "unsharp masking") to images on the InDesign page.
Currently, the only solution is to place an image, scale it to size in InDesign, and then go back to Photoshop to scale it, resample it (change to proper resolution), and then apply appropriate sharpening… and then go update or re-place it in InDesign. It is very inefficient!
I want InDesign to apply global-sharpening to an image at the proper size, when it outputs to PDF or prints.
