1. Please add InDesign as a supported Creative Cloud file type

   I was very excited to learn more about CC files and libraries during Max. I wanted to start implementing CC files to take advantage of versions and file sharing. It's very disappointing to learn that InDesign isn't currently a program that's supported for CC file saving. Please add it.

There are a number of colors available in Swatches Library but when need a specific Pantone color it might not be available because there is limited set of Pantone color available, you can create a new color swatch in Illustrator Indesign but the name color swatch is defined by Pantone so you will need to contact Pantone to get the exact color you are looking for.

3. Adobe's Collaborate should alert user when someone else is viewing/ editing the file

   InDesign Files shared with team members through Adobe's Collaborate features do not alert users when someone else is viewing/ editing a file. Instead, conflicted copies are created.

   A team member opening a file someone else is viewing / editing should see an alert to avoid the creation of conflicting copies / improve collaboration.

   Without this, our team is unlikely to use Adobe's Collaborate feature.

4. DATA MERGE

   Importing an image via .CSV or .TXT file requires the use of an absolute @IMAGE link, it would be very convenient, for file sharing purposes, for this link to recall the files from the folder where the INDESING file resides, using a relative @IMAGE link, using a relative @IMAGE link.

   EXAMBLE:

   Volumes:BK2:PACK HD:CLIENT:PROJECT 1:PACK:LINK:file.ai (ABSOLUTE LINK)

5. Use links with CC Libraries

   I think it would be great to be able to use linked files in CC Libraries. We have a lot of master art on shared drives, and it wouldn't be practical to have it all in the cloud in a Library. For our team, this would be a huge addition... to store a shard-drive link to the file and a thumbnail, instead of uploading the entire asset.

7. "sketch mode"

   i would like the ability to create a mockup right from a working document to share with a client. this "sketch mode" would put placeholder horizontal lines in the text frames, x’s in the image frames, and assign an architectural-drawing-inspired, hand-sketched stroke around all the frames. there could be a layer for notes and flexible arrows for labels and client-focused descriptions, and any actual text, images, or page furniture already placed could be hidden. the designer could export the pages in a large thumbnail-size presentation and then modify the document based on client comments without leaving the working document. this would be sooo helpful!

8. ‘nth of type’ conditions for paragraph styles

   In CSS, we can use an nth-of-type() selector to define behaviour for the nth instance of a style. For example, we can make all paragraphs have a first line indent, but use nth-of-type(1) to remove the indent from the first paragraph on the page. This feature also supports (odd) and (even) values for n.

   This feature would be extremely useful in Indesign for a range of use cases. Importantly, it would eliminate the need for several styles when typesetting multiple-paragraph block quotes, interview dialogue (indenting/outdenting), drop caps on chapter openings, etc.

   For full flexibility, I imagine the feature would offer the ability to clarify the extent of the document sampled for the nth of type condition, ie. nth of type within <document>, <story>, <page>, or <contiguous block of paragraphs sharing the same style>.

   The feature could be implemented similarly to Nested Styles, except the user would be assigning a paragraph style rather than a character style.

10. Lyft background check?

    It is an honor to be able to join the Lyft driver community, which sounds like one exciting environment. I am currently in the course of getting through the application steps. As I go through all the steps, I have thought about the thoroughness of Lyft with respect to what it looks for in a background check. I am very sure that your collective wisdom can provide more details.

    Just for those of you who have firsthand experience in driving for Lyft or have plunged in the detailed knowledge of their screening process in general, I would be glad to hear from you. Could you please share your experiences, or better still, some information that you have regarding what exactly Lyft is looking for in a background check? Is there a particular aspect or criteria that it particularly emphasizes in the course of screening? How comprehensive or particular is the background check, and are there any unique things I should look out for?

11. Non-Linear History and Undos - By page

    Much like paste, paste into, paste in place, undos should be able to have some added features. Photoshop has non-linear history, which feels confusing to undo a brush from 10 steps ago. However, InDesign would greatly benefit from current page specific history, undos, searching, text, edits etc.

    An example, my workflow for placing graphics and prepping captions in a document, is to do one task at a time page by page. I also use transform again individually to apply things like rotation to existing graphics, or frame fitting if I'm placing a graphic somewhere. When placing a graphic into an existing frame, I may advance to the next several pages to place the rest before reformatting everything. In order to review that I made the appropriate changes, I may need to undo 20 steps to see what happened, jumping around in the document as I undo.

    If each page were able to keep it's own history, each would function like a single document and be easy to see changes all at once. Search, edit locking(disabling keystrokes on non active pages), would also benefit from modifying InDesign documents incorrectly. Of course, if you did this I'm going to ask for artboard specific history as well, but In my mind, both would be accessible, similar to paste vs paste in place.

12. Add option to embed placed INDD like other placed files

    Indesign can embed all linked files into an INDD, except for at least one file type: INDD. You place an external INDD, you can't embed it. If you share the main INDD with other people, they have the external files separately, but Indesign cannot find them, because of different paths.

    Also, embedding files into an INDD is used to create a snapshot or final version, which isn't possible in this case. The reason to embed an INDD instead of a PDF created from it is the work flow. If you modify the external INDD, which may be used in several main INDDs, you would have to export a new PDF every time.

    Indesign can embed all linked files into an INDD, except for at least one file type: INDD. You place an external INDD, you can't embed it. If you share the main INDD with other people, they have the external files separately, but Indesign cannot find them, because of different paths.

13. Online InDesign document for client text edits — like InCopy but online without the need for technical know-how or files to move around

    I wish there was a way to post InDesign files online that would easily allow proofreaders, editors, clients or anyone without a lot of technical know-how to log in and make text edits. Freeing up designers from spending countless hours making text edits.

    We tried InCopy, but we store files on a shared server and move files up and down through a project management tool. Being able to properly move the InDesign and linked icml files was way too confusing for our writers and proofreaders and out of the question for clients.

    When we work on PPT presentations, we post the presentation on Office 365 and everyone could log in and make changes. The same is true when we work on Websites, by using AEM. And, for HTML email, we use a drag and drop email builder that allows the whole team to log in and make text edits. I wish that was possible for print material created in InDesign. There may be web-to-print tools, but moving away from Adobe is out of the question.

    Maybe there could be an InDesign feature similar to Publish Online but include a way for someone to log in and make text edits. Somehow the Local InDesign files would need to connect to that online document to automatically update the local InDesign file. Maybe, the designer would download icml files similar to an InCopy workflow.

14. PDF export function with the selection of which metadata or whether general metadata of pictures should be exported.

    Many companies and also designers are not aware that they share sensitive content on their websites via the metadata for expamle in pictures, if these were uploaded directly after the InDesign PDF Export.

    Many PDFs created with InDesign that you can find online from large companies contain very accurate, detailed information such as mails/phone numbers/patient information/non-public addresses/etc (for example Metadatas from Images embedded wihtin the exported PDF). This is a privacy conflict and in some countries a violation of existing laws.

    Photoshop/Lightroom/Premiere, for example, use a check box/features to control the metadata that is exported. In InDesign this feature is missing.

15. Leave links in the CC library when packaging a document.

    Many of my links in my InDesign documents point to a shared CC library. So that I don't have to resend all the data when I package the document, it would be good to have a function that leaves the links of the document in the CC library and only collects the images that are not in the CC library.

16. Reposition feedback-box in shared Indesign document

    It would be useful if you could change the position of the feedback box so that you could make the order logical. Now sometimes the comments are not in the reading order and that makes it unclear.

17. Can you please add a Highlight Text feature?

    Seems like this should have been included years ago. It would make it so much easier when reviewing/editing a document to highlight text which needs to be reviewed/confirmed, etc.

18. Remove (or give option to remove) font information from Contextual Properties style dropdown

    The font name/weight/size information now included in the properties dropdown adds a lot of visual clutter without being particularly useful for finding desired styles.

    For example, in a typical document I have multiple styles that all use the same font name/weight/size, but differ greatly in other settings-- some are bullets, some have an inset, some have specific nested styles, etc etc. THAT'S what's important about them, not the fact that they share a font name/weight/size.

    In addition, because the style name and the style attributes are shown in the same font size/weight in the menu, it's harder to scan down the list and quickly ID the style you want.

    I'd prefer the font name/weight/size be left off the menu, personally. But, if it must be included, then more differentiation between the style name and its associated information would be greatly appreciated.

    It would be very useful to have a button that performs what is essentially the "repeat last action" or "repeat sequence again", but rather than applying said function to a selected object, records the marquis selection area as part of the sequence, and perform the selection and action on each page specified in a dialog box.

20. Upsample Images on PDF Export

    DESCRIPTION:

    Indesign could offer the option of upsampling images to a specified PPI on PDF export. Rather than requiring the user to find each under-res image and manually destructively upsample each with a round-trip through Photoshop.

    Optimally, there could be a threshold setting below which an image resolution is too low. This could be either "effective" resolution PPI number threshold ("Upsample images with an effective placed resolution above 120ppi"), or a max scale percentage that would be needed to get the image up to the set output resolution ("Upsample images within 40% of target resolution." or "Upsample images by no more than 250%.")

    Export dialog could offer different options for dealing with grossly undre-res images or a global "low-resolution" preferences could be set to throw an error at the initial export command similarly to how it deals with missing or modified links.

    I understand that the Preflight panel is already designed to manage resolution issues. But I'm suggesting the option of a workflow where image upsampling happens only for a specific individual PDF output rather than permanently modifying linked source images.

    REASON:

    1. It can be time-consuming to review and override each error that a slightly under-resolution image will throw with modern highly-automated print workflows. (I mean, come on, can anyone see the difference between 280 and 300 ppi once printed? Of course not, but the press doesn't want the liability so throws automated errors if any image is even just 1% under the target resolution.)

    2. Sometimes it's necessary to use images that are not available at any additional resolution and require resampling to choose softness over pixelation. But it can be a nuisance to manage the multiple up-sampled assets hanging around after various uses ("Oh look! Here's a higher resolution version! Dangit, nope, it's just another upsample.") A source image would preferably remain at the actual original resolution since in most cases an upsampled image is made for a specific output.
