1. InDesign opens documents in read only after upgrading to InDesign 2023(18.0)

   Indesign CC 2023 version 18.0 Files open as “Read Only”
   As soon as updated, some files have started to open “Read Only” (RO)
   My OS: Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19044 or 21H2
   PC Desktop
   I am working remotely through a VPN to a server IP address
   I have Indesign 2023 18.0 , and Indesign CS6 installed. I have not opened the CS6 in years. Also noted: My machine does not automatically uninstall the former version when it updates. I manually uninstalled Indesign 2022 after I started using the 2023. At first I thought the RO problem was a conflict, so that was the first thing I did.
   Older version files open up as “converted” ok
   I am able to do all writing on my remote server, I can “save as”, and export files, create folders, delete files, ect.
   If I copy a file that opens RO to my local desktop, I can then open it fine (read/write - RW). If I make changes to that file, save, and then copy it back to remote server, it will open as RO again.
   This does not seem to be happening to every file. I started working on 2 files yesterday, opened and made changes, saved, and closed both multiple times in the morning, then a couple hours later, they opened RO. Then another hour later, one of them opened ok -RW.
   I have a coworker that has the same PC OS Windows system version, and same Indesign version. We both access to the files through same VPN, he is just not in same location as me (about 20 miles away). However, his system automatically uninstalled older versions when it updates. He can open the same files that open RO for me, and they open fine, RW, for him.
   If I open a brand new blank file and I copy and paste all contents from a file that opened RO, then close the RO file and save my Untitled document over it, it will them open up ok when I go back immediately and open it. However, if I go back to open that file, say an hour later, It may or may not open up “Read Only” again.
   I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Indesign 2023, and checking to make sure updated. I have unplugged (reset) my modem.
   I cannot change my preferences for updates to uninstall older versions at this time as I have a graphics card issue with the latest version of Photoshop. I cannot go back to using Indesign 2022, as my cowerker has already been using 2023 for awhile and many files are converted.
   It seems to be intermittent, and almost like there is a problem with files not closing properly? Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

   This issue has been resolved in the latest version of InDesign - InDesign 18.4

   Please update to this version of InDesign from Creative Cloud Desktop application to get the fix.

2. Can't Duplicate multiple Page with Alt + Drag and place them in a specific place just moves to bottom

   This used to work but the past years updates have stopped this function, again another thing that worked removed! You used to be able to shift click on a few pages in the pages panel then alt drag them and place them ANYWHERE in the document, sometimes i liked them straight underneath current pages but now for some unknown reason its doesn't allow me to do this with more than one page? when you try to move the selected pages nothing happens and the pages are just duplicated at the end of the document not very helpful with a 100 page document why has this been removed?

3. "Rolloff" in Animationpanel not working in CC2017 / CC2018 / MAC / WINDOWS

   I am working on a diplom project right now, and faced a really annoying bug in InDesign. I want to create a rollover bar, wich slides up when I rollover / hover with my mouse over a certain object. I know without any kind of problems how I am able to create something like this, but my problem is, that the object simply wont return to its destination where it came from, when I rolloff it again, like going away with my mouse. It stays on its place once the animation has been completed, and when I hover over it again, the animations simply restarts. Hard to explain, easy to understand once you see it yourself.

   Try it yourself, hover over the 3 lines on the bottom, a bar should come up. Go away with mouse, it redoes the animation again, while it normaly should go down where it came from, when "Rolloff" in the Animationpanel is activated.

   Side-note: Exporting it with "Rolloff" deactivated does the exact same thing, so it seems like, that the tool "Rolloff" has no real function.

   In this YouTube tutorial, you can clearly see, someone achieving what I want in Adobe CS5, 7 years ago! A update for this section would also be great sometime, but it just seems like nothing has changed over the past 7 years.

   It doesnt matter if I try to succeed in this in CC17 / CC18 / Mac or Windows, both do not work.

   This is a tool that is so great to have, but it simply stops me from working correctly, because I am not able to use it. Please fix this as fast as possible. I am not doing all this for fun, I got a diplom project to complete, and just want to make it a little bit nicer by using things like the Animationpanel, instead of simple buttons only.

4. Copy and paste from InDesign 15.1.3 to InDesign 16.0

   When copy pasting from 1 version to the other, Objects (including Text Frames) are getting pasted as an embedded EPS without showing as so in the Links Panel.

6. space before and after ordered and unordered lists

   I'd like to space before and after fields added to the Bullets and Numbering panel of paragraph styles. I often prefer to base my ULs and OLs on my body style which includes the space applied to the end of the paragraph. I can remove the space but then my list item lack the proper spacing for the last item in the list. I fix this by creating a last item style and apply it manually but this is a real pain. It would be nice to have space before and after fields to adjust the padding around a list, independent of the Indents and Spacing panel in the paragraph style. This would allow me to create a single style to manage ordered and unordered lists and limit potential errors by forgetting to apply a separate style to the last item of the list. Sure, I might need to do a little math to add the correct amount of padding to match paragraph spacing but a single style for lists is far easier to manage then two or more styles.

8. alternate layouts

   I want to prevent Indesign from adding alternate layouts to my file. I sometimes have to move pages from one document to another. I am using the page panel-move pages and then telling it the document I want the pages moved to. It adds an alternate layout. Is there a way to prevent this from automatically happening? It should be a feature that I turn on IF I WANT it. not one that I can't turn off.

9. [ID-4214241] Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem

   Since I update indesign to CC 2019 I can't print to booklet all of my .indd files which were overwrited in .indd version CC 2019 (and even the older versions can't be printed to booklet...).
   I got the error message : "printing error : The Adobe Print engine has failed to output your data due to an unknow problem"

   indesign 14.0.1
   Windows 7 version 6.1
   printer : Adobe PDF

   Here is the error log :

    Please upgrade to the new InDesign 14.0 from your Creative Cloud Application.

    If you are unable to see the update yet, click on the menu (three dots) on the top right corner of Creative cloud app and click on “Check for App Updates”.

13. InDesign links and Box Drive

    This appears to be an issue only with InDesign and Box Drive.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. In InDesign, link to an Illustrator file or PDF with multiple artboards, layers, or pages from the Box Drive folder.
    2. Place the file and select a single artboard or page.
    3. Save, close, and re-open the file.

    Result:
    The linked file will no longer update. Perpetually needs updating even though the file hasn't changed.
    The workaround is to save the linked file to Adobe Libraries.

    Expected:
    The file link should show that it is updated in the links panel.
     
    System info
        Application: InDesign v16.3.0.5
        OS: macOS v11.2.3, RAM: 16.00 GB, CPUs (logical): 8

    This appears to be an issue only with InDesign and Box Drive.

14. index marker grep bug in findchangelist

    The prelisted double to single space query in the findchangebylist.jsx also delets index markers between spaces.

    While using the find-exchange window in ID to first look for [space]+(~I+)[space]+ to exchange it with [space]$1 works well enough, putting this in the findchangelist.txt, it deletes the index markers aswell. (note: [space] is only to visualize a regular space. I'm not writing it out in my queries.)

    I also noticed, that they also only partially work in the regular GREP search in the F/E-window: using lookahead or lookbehind is only able to find the position of the marker but not the character that the query is supposed to find. For exhample.:
    [space] (~I+)\K <-finds the position of one or more index markers after a space (no selection)
    [space] (~I+)\K[space] <- finds nothing
    The same happens with regular lookahead/behind queries.

    Can the GREP support for index markers please be fixed?

15. Adobe Indesign 2024 - frequent "Hang" issues & "error report" messages.

    1. We recently purchased Adobe Indesign 2024 and we are frequently facing "hang" issues where the screen gets stuck on opening an indesign file or while adding few lines of texts while editing a file. we are neither able to perform any further action nor close the indesign program. Only if we end the task we are able to exit.

    2. We have also been getting error report frequently and the working indesign file gets closed.

    3. In addition to that for the past 2 days, we are getting a pop-up message showing "do you want automatic recovery?" message, clicking yes on which the file gets stuck again.

    1. 16. palettes stay closed

    Our entire department recently did the newest update to Adobe InDesign (21.0)
    Steps to reproduce the issues: Close document and open another one

    Every single time I open a new file (which is many times per day) the pallets do not pop open. The workspace still looks like it should and when I click on a pallet to use it, it highlights like it would if it was popped open for use but nothing happens.

    Expected result: Pallets pop open so I can make changes on my file
    Actual result: Pallets highlight like they will open but actually stay closed and do nothing

    The only way I have found to make this work is to reset the workspace (whether it's one you have saved as your own or just using a default). EVERY. SINGLE. TIMEEE PLEASE FIX THIS

    Broken in 18.3 and 19.5: Non-ASCII text in the "Button Value" field in the "Buttons and Forms" panel fails to export to interactive PDF.

    To reproduce this issue:
    1) Create a radio button
    2) Add non-ASCII text to the "Button Value" field
    3) Export to Interactive PDF
    4) Look at the mouseover tooltip and see that the Button Value has lost any glyphs beyond U+00FF.

    I have updated from CC 2017 to CC 2018 and opened an existing 740 page book. This is an indesign book file .INDB with 25 chapters and numerous index entries.
     
    When I view the index panel in CC 2017 all the entries are there. Screenshot index-cc2017
     
    When I view the same files in CC 2018 the index panel is completely empty and there is no index at all. Screenshot index-panel2018
     
    AND YES
    I rebuilt the preferences and the exact same thing happens. These screenshots were done after the pref rebuild when I noticed the problem.
    Is there another trick I am not aware of?
    (Shaking chicken bones, throwing salt over my left shoulder...:)
     
    Any known bugs on this issue?
    Open to any suggestions...Of course I will keep the older version installed.

    Can you please share the book (indd document files) at amaarora@adobe.com along with a small video showing the issue.
    I am unable to reproduce this issue locally.

19. Export options locked

    Hi., When customising the Workspace [ i.e. colouring menus and adding Panels to the Panel Dock ] on an Apple Mac, and then subsequently using File->Export, the Drop down list of Export formats are locked out [ i.e. I cannot go from PDF Print to any other format ]. To resolve I have to go back to one of the default Workspaces such as Essentials etc, and then the Dropdown can be accessed. This happens in all recent releases of InDesign including 2019. I imagine the root cause of the fault is more the colouring of the menus rather than docking extra panels to the right of the screen [ when customising the workspace ]

20. Incompatible with Windows 10, won't even open

    My Windows 10 laptop simply will not open InDesign.
