1. Publish Online: if forbidden character in the document name, the name has to be filled in again

   To me it’s okay that “special characters” are not allowed in the title of a "publish Online" document.

   But if a user gets this message, his/her title is completely deleted and he/she has to fill out the title again. Although there’s maybe only one forbidden character in it.

   Annoying. Any chance to change this?

2. last letter in text frame disappears from PDF Hebrew

   We're having issues with the last letter or the punctuation at the end of a sentence disappearing when the file is exported as a PDF. Primarily happens with right-to-left language, we're using Hebrew.
   Been happening since the update to 19.0 onward.

3. Bicubic Downsampling artifacts

   When an image is exported to PDF with Bicubic Downsampling selected, the interpolation creates a a column of pixels which seem to be duplicated from the column immediately preceding it. This isn't very noticeable on full images, but on specific cases, like the round circle attached, it creates an unsightly "bump out" that alters the shape of the circle.
   This does not occur if Average Downsampling is selected, so that's the immediate solution to the problem, but maybe the ID team needs to look at how Bicubic Downsampling is applied and if there's any way to improve this interpolation.
   As mentioned, it also affects full images, but the "repeated" column, while there, is not an EXACT replication of the one to its immediate left, so the interpolation is using a set of samples slightly differently, but still very close to a duplication.
   The effect also seems to occur on the last row of pixels, but not in the same way, but still creates a sense of a flat spot on the circle example.

5. Problem Selecting Hebrew vowels and diacritics

   Problem Selecting Hebrew vowels and diacritics especially when there are Hebrew and English mixed in the paragraph, it seems like there is no visual distinction to determine what is being selected. This is so frustrating, and makes it impossible to use in the long run.

6. Placing an ICML file in an InDesign file ignores multiple artboards in AI files if they are embedded

   If you have an AI file with multiple artboards which is an embedded anchored object in a text frame it will always revert back to the first artboard when you place the ICML in InDesign.

   1. Create a new InDesign file.
   2. Create an AI file with two artboards and one simple object in each.
   3. Create a text frame in InDesign.
   4. Place the AI file in the text frame and choose the second artboard.
   5. Embed the AI file.
   6. Export the text frame as an ICML file.
   7. Place the ICML file into the document (not check in/check out).

   What happens:
   1. The "Pages" panel will show the correct preview.
   2. The "Links" panel will show the correct preview.
   3.. The text frame that is created will show the first artboard.

   Images:
   1. AI file with two artboards.
   2. Embedded image of artboard 2.
   3. After placing the ICML into the InDesign file it has reverted to display artboard 1, but the previews in the "Links" and "Pages" palettes are still correct.

7. Indesign 2024 Unable to Recognize Variable Fonts from Documents Created with Previous Version

   InDesign 2024 (v19.0) fails to recognize variable fonts from documents created in previous version. Specifically, Helvetica Now Variable weights and widths are reported as missing. Running MacOS Sonoma (but the same system opens the file without issue when using InDesign 2023… can’t be an OS issue.)

8. anchored object ignores textwrap of the first line

   When anchoring an Object in a text and selecting the object to wrap around the text, the first line ignores this command.
   When searching for a solution, i stumbled upon this entry describing the problem.

   the only solution seems to be to anchor the text in a previous line.
   However, I want my textanchor to be on the right spot, so a screenreader can read it correctly - so anchoring it one line above is no option for me.

9. Variable font changes to Italic when a custom axis value is set, without user input. Also, the Italic axis cannot be controlled.

   This may be related to a somewhat similar Illustrator bug:

   Summary:
   1. Variable fonts that have separate but related roman/italic font files are handled badly by InDesign (and Illustrator). In InDesign, if you set a custom axis value such as Weight or Optical Size, the font changes to Italic immediately. This issue occurs in fonts such as Roboto Serif and Apple SF Pro, which are well-tested, popular, and important by many measures. It also occurs in fonts that have internal data that is known to be good, at least as far as FontBakery testing shows. It doesn’t occur in single-font-file variable fonts such as Acumin or Inter, which have built-in "slnt" axes.
   2. As a secondary but related issue, there should actually be an Italic slider or toggle for a variable font, if that axis is specified in the font’s STAT table.

   Version of InDesign: 18.2.1 (latest as of May 25, 2023). Also tested in latest prerelease, v18.4.

   Steps:
   1. Set some type with a font like Roboto Serif [variable].
   2. Open the variable font axes panel, and change an axis like Weight. The font will change to its Italic version, without user input. There is no clear way to change it back to Upright, without selecting a named instance like "SemiBold" – but that largely defeats the purpose of the font being variable.

   Expected result:
   A variable font should be able to have a custom weight value, without snapping to Italic. Likewise, there should actually be an Italic slider or toggle, if that axis is specified in the font’s STAT table.

   Actual result:
   It is impossible to set an upright variable font with a custom weight.

10. Adobe Caslon Pro: Glyph as bullet does not function

    InDesign version 18.2.1 (Windows 10 x64). I would like to use a glyph as a bullet (the opentype digit 3 of Adobe Caslon Pro - an acorn). In the paragraph style box for my "Bulleted list" style, I am trying to add the bullet. When I click "add" and then click "ok," a standard round black dot appears in my list of bullet characters to choose from. If I try to add my preferred glyph (or any of the other opentype glyphs from the font's set, for that matter), the program tells me: "The selected bullet already appears in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box with this font and style association. Specify a different font or style, or select a different bullet." I also cannot add the glyph as bullet manually in the lists window. In short, adding a glyph as bullet is not functioning. There has been extensive discussion of this issue on the Adobe Support Community. Many people have suggested numerous solutions, but none have worked. 11. Numbering restarts from 1 after an unnumbered style in exported html

    1. InDesign 18.1 (since 17.2.1)
    2. Create a numbered list paragraph, insert a line of a different paragraph style not containing numbers, continue the numbered list on the next line, the number continues from the previous list. Export this file to an html file.
    3. Expect the number to follow what we see in the InDesign file
    4. The number restarts from 1 after the inserted line of a different paragraph style

12. Persistent place in Creative Cloud folders

    I would love it if my location within a cloud folder was persistent. In other words, if I wasn't always put back to the root directory of my Creative Cloud files. As it is, I have to navigate back into my folders each time I want to save or place or do almost anything. This wastes a lot of time.

13. InDesign CC2023 forces paragraph in overset

    Since the update to InDesign v18.0 (CC2023) the first line of a Paragraph with custom Bullet (Numbering) text, gets forced in overset when the first word is longer than 8-9 characters. They don't flow to the next paragraph and there is still enough space to keep the word in the Text Frame.
    In the example you'll see two Text Frames with one with the word "Duurzaamheid" cut in two and the second in overset with no space between "Duur" and "zaamheid" wich forces everything in overset. 14. No multicore, no gpu support this is RIDICULOUS

    Okay hear me out, I know for a fact this has been brought up I know.

    However in 2022 a multinational company doesn't support multicore and gpu performance for windows this is just insane, it's the biggest F U to the community.
    How I'm supposed to work on anything if my performance is garbage with VERY FEW OBJECTS, now you might say ah yes just press typical performance or fast perfomance if your pc is struggling. I have a proper pc (i9 9900k, 32gb ram, rtx 2080) really if this gear STRUGGLES with TEXT editing I'm speachless, for the sake of keeping your customers loyal add a GPU SUPPORT FOR INDESIGN ON WINDOWS HOW YOU DONT HAVE IT????? why my performance is so bad only because you don't have gpu support in 2022?

15. High CPU usage

    High CPU usage on Win 10 (Asus NB) since version 17. Still remains (after many updates, 17.3 included). Not usable software.

    So I'm using version 16, and there is no problem with CPU.

16. Can't Click/Drag Large Area of Main Title Bar

    This was introduced in 17.0 and I was hoping it would be fixed by 17.3 but it hasn't been addressed.

    Large areas of the title bar can't be clicked on/interacted with so one can't drag/move the main program window.

    I'd say about 50% of the title bar is like this.

17. Critical Bug with Font embedding on PDF Export - InDesign 17.2 and up

    OS: Windows 10
    Version: InDesign 17.2 and 17.2.1

    After the update to 17.2 and 17.2.1 the font embedding is not working properly anymore on PDF Export. It does not matter if we export to PDF/X-3 or smallest file size.

    The font in question here is Roboto Slab.
    After a downgrade to 17.1 everything worked properly. An upgrade to 17.2.1 again produced the same error.

    Expected result: propper font integration
    Actual result: Missing embedded font, text is torn apart, missing characters

18. Unable to print using Separations with trap Application Built In

    When sending a 2+ color job with trap to RIP via Indesign, I keep getting "Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem." This seems to be an issue with the last 3 versions, along with the updates. I've uninstalled print drivers and reinstalled. Deleted cache files. For a short time I was able to print using an older version on Id but its no longer and option. My coworker who is on Mac has no problem printing with trap. Not sure what's going on. I contacted Adobe when the problem first arose and went back and forth with them for over a week, tech even remoted in, nothing was fixed. Anyone else?

19. Hyperlink panel "go to destination" not linking to html with # to a specific id="anchor-1"

    ID version 17.0

    Hyperlink is to a url containing a # to anchor-1 in an html document. (Fig. 1)

    When clicking the go to destination it should open to that particular id location in the html.

    In the browser the # becomes %23 and the html document does not open, in fact it opens a pdf with a similar url. (Fig. 3)

    Fortunately when creating a pdf the link does work correctly in the browser.

    In v 14.0.1 it would open to the correct place in the html.

20. De-Stick Alt Key After Zoom

    When I press and hold the ALT key (Windows) to zoom with the mouse wheel, it doesn't release the way a sticky key should - once finished with mouse wheel zooming, I have to tap the Alt key a -second- time to release it. Not doing this results in the menu bar becoming active. Example: Press and hold Alt and zoom with the wheel. Finish zooming and release the sticky alt key. Now Tap the letter W to enter Preview mode ... but instead of Preview Mode, InDesign will drop down the --W--indow Menu, tapping W again then drops down the --W--orkspace menu etc. This is a workflow killer.

    Adobe has other sticky keys that muscle memories remember (space bar, etc..) so to expect a) the user to remember that this tool behaves -different- and b) the user now has to add -additional- key strokes makes for a bad user interface experience.

    When I press and hold the ALT key (Windows) to zoom with the mouse wheel, it doesn't release the way a sticky key should - once finished with mouse wheel zooming, I have to tap the Alt key a -second- time to release it. Not doing this results in the menu bar becoming active. Example: Press and hold Alt and zoom with the wheel. Finish zooming and release the sticky alt key.
