1. Unable to kill find missing fonts background process

   If the preferences setting to automatically find missing fonts is set, there are three major issues:

   1/ The background process never times out,
   2/ The background process severely degrades InDesign performance for everything else, and
   3/ There is no way to manually kill that background process. If we could, then issues 1 and 2 would not be such problems. If the fonts aren't found, or the internet connection is hinky, or if the Adobe servers are under heavy load or having other issues, we could just kill that background process and then either try again later or design an workaround without those missing fonts.

   The ability to kill this background process is a glaring design gap. We should be able to kill it, or at least disable it for a document (like we can disable automatic preflight).

2. 'Share for review' showing name of a previously shared document, hasn't recognised which document to share

   InDesign 16.0
   Mac OS 10.15.7
   Chrome Version 86.0.4240.183

   Share for review should respond to whichever tab is in focus

   Steps to recreate.

   1. Have 2 InDesign documents you want to share for review
   2. Open one of the files
   3. Go to share and review, see the filename populated in the panel's field
   4. Create the share
   5. Open the other InDesign document
   6. Go to share and review

   Expected: Document that is in focus in the open tab is the file that is being shared

   Actual: Previous file's name is still populated. Changing it and sharing creates an error.

   And now this has happened, restarting InDesign and opening the second, as-yet unshared document only, will refresh the sharing panel and share correctly.

   InDesign 16.0
   Mac OS 10.15.7
   Chrome Version 86.0.4240.183

3. Filenames and Thumbnails on the Home screen are on top of each other

   Expected result: See recent files
   Actual result: I see the recent files but I can't read the filenames properly because they are on top of each other. The thumbnails are not aligned as well. Please see attached screenshot.

4. EPS saving as AI or PDF bug then printing in InDesign

   Hi When saving an EPS file to either AI or PDF downloaded from a stock site I have had issues with both the on screen preview and print from InDesign. When I save it as an EPS again it appears to regain the proper appearance both on screen and in print. Is there a transparency issue when converting an EPS to AI or PDF?

5. Error on Inset Spacing on Text Frame

   The Inset spacing on a Text Frame can be set to keep text from the edge of a box as in previous versions. However I am finding that when I request the frame be resized to fit the text exactly the bottom inset is not being recognised. Is this an recognised issue?

6. Variable font: Italic character wrongly displayed when exported to PDF format from InDesign.

   I'm reporting this bug on behalf of the type design studio Dalton Maag. To reproduce: use the provided test font, write the lowercase letter "p" in Indesign, and choose the "Hair Italic" instance, or equivalently, set:
   - the font's weight axis to the minimum,
   - the width to its default value
   - the italic axis to its maximum.

   Glyphs are shown without fault within InDesign itself. However, when exported to PDF format and opened on Acrobat Reader, there is an issue with how the letter “p” is displayed (see aktiv_vf_p_bug.png).

   We are suspecting the issue is caused by a point on the glyph with coordinate x=0. For our purpose of releasing a working version of the font, we were able to circumvent this problem by moving the offending point by one pixel to the right in the Hair Italic master. However, this is not an acceptable longterm solution from a design standpoint.

   We also suspect that the problem happens during the conversion from variable font to a static font for inclusion in the PDF, because we extracted from the PDF the static Hair Italic font that gets embedded, and saw that the bottom right point is misplaced in that font.

   I can't attach the pdf but I can send it to you for reproducibility.

7. Landing page form doesn't work when accessed by Publish Online link

   But, the form does work when accessed by ePub and PDF.

   I suspect this issue is with the landing page, which my client had another contractor create, and the page is unsecure, FWIW.

   But, it just seems odd, that the form works (accepts and sends user info) coming from ePub and PDF, but does not when coming from the Publish Online link on browsers Firefox and Chrome. Safari does work.

   Any ideas?

8. Serious GREP style bug: ampersands

   Hi, InDesign team.

   I've run into a serious bug with GREP styles. Any GREP expression containing an ampersand character that is entered as a GREP style in a paragraph style will suddenly acquire additional ampersands whenever I scroll through the list of GREP styles.

   STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

   Create a simple GREP style as part of a paragraph style.
   The entire GREP expression should consist of the single character &. (Though this also happens when the & is part of longer expressions.)
   Make enough other GREP styles that you need to scroll in the window to see them all.
   Close the paragraph style window and reopen it.
   Scroll through the list of GREP styles.
   When you scroll, you will see that "&" has become "&&."

9. [ID-4273320]"Failed to place PDF" with a PDF file created in Canva

   Trying to import a client supplied PDF, created in the paid version of Canva and saved as a CMYK print quality PDF (not flattened). Will not place into InDesign. I've tried various and no import options and it does not work. I have placed this PDF into Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Publisher 2 without issue.

10. Source Sans Pro latest version's properties have changed

    The latest version of Source Sans pro (version 3.006) appears to start lower down text frames than the previous version did which messes up months worth of existing projects. When I go to edit the copy, it all shifts down the text box by a few millimetres.

    In the attached image you can see two of the same text boxes - one is correct, and one has shifted down due to the font updating.

    I've spoken with InDesign support who said to log the issue here.

    As a temporary fix I have downloaded version 2.040 of the font from Github and this works perfectly.

11. Top Selection Bar Glitch

    1. InDesign 208
    2. For example, let's say I have a file open and I want to create a new file without using the shortcut CTRL+N. When I bring my cursor to the top bar containing File, Edit, Layout, Type, Object, etc... it selects the correct category which results in a dropdown menu, but as soon as I move my cursor a little, the system throws the cursor over like 2 tabs at a time. So for example, I click File, the menu drops down, I move the cursor to select the type of New file I want and then suddenly I have a different dropdown menu open, two tabs over. This is not a consistent issue but it happens often enough to be frustrating and bring me to write out this report. While writing this message, the program displayed the glitch (even if I resize the screen or close and reopen the program). Now randomly it works when 5 minutes ago it wasn't working properly.
    3. I would expect the dropdown menu I selected to remain when I click it and move the cursor through that menu.
    4. Sometimes it works as it should, other times it does what I described above.
    5. I would upload some way to view this issue if I knew how.

12. "Fit frame to content" doesn't work anymore after a lot of pages in file

    Working on a catalogue, a lot of files in a book. The "fit frame to content" works good until after a lot of pages (I think after 50 or 60 pages) suddenly it doesn't work anymore. With a textframe & also tableframe. But with an image it still works...
    Also very change, when you split the textframe in for example 2, on the second textframe it will work (fit frame to content).
    All the fit options don't work for text & tableframes.
    The right-click and choose the option don't work and also the shortcut doesn't work.

    2 other colleagues have the problem too (same version).

    We use this option a lot, because we imported an XML and then we need to adjust the textframe after placing it on the page.

    Hope this problem will be fixed soon, haven't seen anyone reporting this issue. Thank you!

13. footnote reference formatting is wrong

    The new version 19 and 19.0.1 shows footnote reference numbers incorrectly When paragraph justification is set to Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer. It must be set to the basic Adobe Paragraph Composer to work.

    The problem is the final digit (if the reference is greater than 9) does not apply the character style formatting defined in the Footnote Options setup, so the last digit is shown as normal.

    The same issue happens on running head page numbers with a style applied, but only on the right hand page. It also happens on cross-reference numbers. A workaround is to place a character after the number, which is not always possible.

14. Hyphenation zone settings override discretionary hyphen exclusivity

    Adobe InDesign Hyphenation Bug Report

    Summary

    Conflict between discretionary hyphen behavior and "After First / Before Last" hyphenation zone settings, where InDesign ignores discretionary hyphens that fall within the prohibited hyphenation zone.

    When a word contains a discretionary hyphen that falls within the "After First X Letters" or "Before Last X Letters" prohibited zone, InDesign should:
    1. Respect the discretionary hyphen's exclusivity (only break where discretionary hyphen appears)
    2. Refuse to break the word at all since the only allowed break point falls within the prohibited zone
    3. Not apply automatic hyphenation anywhere else in the word

    Actual Behavior

    InDesign ignores the discretionary hyphen when it falls within the prohibited hyphenation zone and applies automatic hyphenation rules instead, breaking the word at algorithmically-determined positions that fall outside the prohibited zone.

15. performance issues

    I've never been complaining about InDesign, but the last updated version sucks hard. I have issues with my tablet, the smart guides are not measuring right, I got issues with type tool imagining object that doesn't exist. There issues with the other apps as well, the last year with Adobe CC has been really driving me crazy, the quality of performance it's just getting worse!

16. InDesign links and Box Drive

    This appears to be an issue only with InDesign and Box Drive.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. In InDesign, link to an Illustrator file or PDF with multiple artboards, layers, or pages from the Box Drive folder.
    2. Place the file and select a single artboard or page.
    3. Save, close, and re-open the file.

    Result:
    The linked file will no longer update. Perpetually needs updating even though the file hasn't changed.
    The workaround is to save the linked file to Adobe Libraries.

    Expected:
    The file link should show that it is updated in the links panel.

        Application: InDesign v16.3.0.5
        OS: macOS v11.2.3, RAM: 16.00 GB, CPUs (logical): 8

17. Font Issues

    InDesign 2019 doesn't recognize Raleway and Ultra Stint fonts when opening documents created in InDesign 2018. Fonts are loaded and active under the Creative Cloud, system has been started/restarted.

18. Major performance issues in 15.0.2 with multiple large documents open

    I'm on a Windows laptop with a Core i7, 16 gb of ram and a dedicated GPU. Up until the 15.0.2 update there was some hitching and slowdown with these large files (and I noticed a weird bug where hitting T to use the Type tool doesn't actually change the tool) but now editing text can take up to 10 minutes with more than one file open. I can't make a screencast at the moment since I had to reinstall 15.0.1 to complete the project on time but the filesize we're talking about is 50-75mb, ~60 pages or so with about 300 linked images (it's a catalog).

19. preview 'w' shortcut doesn't work

    Regularly doesn't respond to the 'w' key shortcut to toggle between regular/preview views.

    Closing entire program fixes the issue.

    As confirmed by the user, the issue is resolved with the latest InDesign 2021.

    Workaround: Restart InDesign

20. PDF Export do not provide the option that people have to use braille devices can read it :(

    The Option to create a document for People who use a braille device is vanished. Huge Issue as the information letter is also beeing read from blind people (school with blind childs and teachers in vienna). The provides me with the update that they cant read it any more. Issue starts with InDesign CC 14.0.1 PC Version.
    Please advice of fix this.
