   InDesign CS6, ver. 8.1 both skips and reorders booklet pages.
   In a sixteen-page booklet Print Booklet prints only eight pages and those out of order.
   Sheet A ought to print p. 16 and p. 1 on the obverse and p.2 and p. 15 on its reverse.
   Instead it prints p. 3 and p. 1 on the obverse and p. 4 and p. 3 on the reverse.
   Sheet B continues the confusion, printing p. 6 and p. 5 on the obverse and p. 8 and p. 7 on the reverse.

2. Empty merge fields introduce characters that cannot be found

   When you perform a data merge and create a new merged document InDesign adds hidden characters where the empty data field would be. These characters cannot be found using a standard search. I have not tried GREP.

   In my case I was working on business cards. Some records have no mobile number so there is a blank line in the merged document, apart from the M prefix that would normally indicate a mobile number. I wanted to remove all those lines so I selected one, from the M at the beginning to the paragraph break at the end. I pasted that into the Find field, left the Change field blank, then clicked Change All. Nothing was changed.

   I replaced the odd characters in the Find filed with a wild card, so now I was searching for "M^t^?^p". That’s an M followed by a tab, followed by any character, followed by a return. Nothing was found. I tried two wildcards, then three wildcards. Nothing was found.

   InDesign’s merged document contained some odd character that cannot be found by any means, even with wildcards.

4. Import PDF Comments - New Bugs identified - Part 4

5. XSL used to export XML, replace function causing issues

   Here’s the issue: in the process of exporting XML using XSL, extended characters (like fancy quotes and em-dashes) are being replaced incorrectly. Basically, while replacing the character with it's corresponding HTML entity, the character plus two more characters get replaced.

   The problem is caused by a difference between the way Adobe is handling XSL in older versions 2014 vs. 2018 or newer. Attached you will find an example export of the 2014 export and the 2018 export using the exact same XSL. Notice that in the 2018 TWO characters after every special character are getting replaced. 6. character styles in Table of Contents

   Not sure if this is a bug or a feature.

   It is a best practice, if you use running headers, to apply a character style to a selected subset of a heading, for example, HeadText1 for a first-level heading, and HeadText2 for a second-level heading, so that the header just shows basically a short title for the heading. You define the header to contain two text variables, first Heading1 that picks up, for example, the first instance of the text marked with HeadText1, and Heading2 that picks up the last instance of HeadText2. Works great, and I have a post at https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2602190 that shows how to do this. (HeadText1 and HeadText2 character styles apply nothing but the name, they don't change the text at all; they are just to tell the headers which subset of the Heading1 or Heading1 to put into the header at the top of the page.)

   The problem is that when you generate a Table of Contents, the header will pick up HeadText2 and insert in the header, as the entries in the Table of Contents all have the HeadText1 and HeadText2 character styles. While keeping character styles is a good default… people might want to keep them in the Table of Contents… there should be a checkbox for "strip character styles" for documents where you are using this best practice for running headers.

7. Clicking on bookmark in bookmark panel resizes view

   When you double-click on a bookmark in the Bookmarks Panel to go there, the view resizes to a random zoom. (Random as far as I can tell, anyway, there is probably a reason for the zoom level deep in the code).

   Not sure if this is a bug or a feature request, but navigating a long document via the Bookmarks Panel would be much more useful if the view stayed at the same zoom level.

8. InDesign CC exporting idml's with errors not found in the indd file

   When packaging InDesign CC 14.0.2 .indd files, the resulting idml file has content frames jumping around. The resulting packaged indd file looks fine, but in the idml content frames have moved resulting in images being cut off and text boxes shift cutting off text.

   Process is simply packaging a working indd file with no particularly special settings. Package with indd, idml and pdf. This doesn't happen in every file, maybe 1 in 100.

9. Create outlines in a document with conditional text crashes

   I have four InDesign templates created, two use conditional text while the other two do not. I have no problem creating outlines of the document without the conditional text. Every time I try to create outlines of a page in a document with conditional text, I get the endless spinning wheel and have to force quit.

10. Custom Thai character set does not display properly in composite font

    In the Composite Font Editor, I defined a custom character set that includes all of the characters in Noto Sans Thai and tried specifying various Thai fonts to that character set as part of a composite font.

    However, regardless of the font I specified and regardless of what fonts I specified for the other parts of the composite font in certain circumstances three Thai tone characters would not display (U+0E48, U+0E49, and U+0E4C). As far as I can tell, they do display when they are above another tone character, but they do not display if they are the only tone character. I have confirmed that these characters are included in the custom Thai character set that I defined.

    I attached a PDF showing most of the characters in the custom Thai character set I defined and one of many composite font definitions that I tried.

    InDesign 14.0.2 (same thing happens in other versions) on Windows 7 (64-bit)

11. Indesign causes screen to enter a strobe flicker effect and no choice but to shut down

    Sometimes when I drag a text box to a different position the screen starts to flicker then goes crazy - like a strobe effect. It's applied to all software that's open and there is no choice but to have a frenzied time trying to shut down applications and saving work before the screen either goes completely blank or white. There is no choice but to restrt the imac.

    It happened around 5 times in the space of an hour and then won't happen for weeks.

    iMac - Intel Core i7 - 4 GHz - Memory 32 GB - AMD Radeon R9 M395 - Built-In Retina LCD 5120x2880 - InDesign 14.0.2

    This issue has been fixed by upgrading to MacOS Catalina . Various Illustrator users have confirmed that on upgrading their macOS issue is fixed.

12. Stroke edit crash

    I create a line with either the pen tool or the line tool. I select the line and open the properties palette. I select the 'stroke' button and open the stroke palette. I click the 'line end' or 'line beginning' to change the end to an arrow, bullet end, etc. InDesign hangs for a moment and then crashes.
    I have submitted multiple crash reports from the crash window that pops up and have received no response from Adobe. It has been going on for months.

    We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

    We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

13. CC Libraries Saved Text issue

    In CC Libraries I have pre-set headlines text set with font and kerning. When I drag and drop desired headline into page layout, the font is changed out to something completely different. I've double check the save CC text file is it's as it's should be. I'm not sure what happened or how to fix it. These headlines I use on a daily bases have have hand kerning needed to each, which is time consuming to do each time.

    Screen shots are with a headline what I'm looking to change from "All you need." to "The real deal." Both are pre-set saved headlines in CC LIB. When I drag and drop the line it shows how it appears on the page. The font is white in the file, but to show you the file itself I've changed it to black. I've quick the program. 14. cc libraries deletes my text

    Hello.

    When adding my own text to a file in InDesign/CC Libraries (See attached image) - it deletes part of the text so I have to rewrite it again.

    Example:
    'Saks' becomes 'ks'

    There's a glitch and the text disappears.
    It's a collaboration work account, but can't it get more stable?

    Switch primary text frame's Text Frame Options for multiple pages. See this item on forum: https://forums.adobe.com/message/11180092#11180092. Using 14.0.2 x64. You can't use applying a new Master Page to switch Balance Columns off and on on a Primary Text Frame, though you can use it to change number of columns. 16. Drive File Stream causing InDesign to crash

    InDesign v 14.0.2

    We use Drive File Stream for all of our file storing - which has been working great until last week when opening certain files made InDesign crash repeatedly. I have tried to save as an IDML, download locally and still have the crashing problem.

    When I go to open the file it will just freeze the application window, no panels visable and just the spinning Mac ball. Force quit and then reopen InDesign - then it freezes again each time upon reopening, before trying to open any files and I have to force quit again. The second time trying to reopen is successful.

    Drive file stream is working fine for most other files.

17. TIFF images as assets in CC Libraries are always placed as PNG images on the document page

    1. Affected: InDesign CC all versions that are working with CC Libraries.
       Tested with InDesign CC 2018.1 and InDesign CC 2019 version 14.0.2.324 on Windows 10. InDesign versions on Mac OS X are also reported.

    2. Steps to reproduce the issue:
       Do a new CC Library.
       Add TIFF images saved from PhotoShop CC 2019 to the new library.
       Two options how you can do this that I know of:
       A. Drag the files from your file system to the open and empty library.
       B. Use Adobe Bridge CC 2019 to drag files to the open library.

    3. Expected result:
       If I want to use an image TIFF asset in my layout and place it on the page from a CC Library the placed image should show up as TIFF image with all the right properties, like the right color space, original resolution etc.pp.

    4. Actual result:
       The placed TIFF is converted to PNG, color space is always RGB, regradless of the original. Always indicating transparency. Even if the original file stored in the CC Library has no transparency at all.

18. Place; inconsequent text string in dialog

    When choosing File -> Place the dialog says "Open" on the selected item. In stead of "Place"
    In training on indesign i allways have to explain this. We can only Open indesign files, but we can Place other media. The dialog window should use the term Place.

19. Disappearing objects

    I'm finding several of my indesign documents now have this lovely helpful trait where random objects dissappear and reappear off the page depending on zoom or moving other objects near it making it near unusable as a program unless I waste time copying and pasting everything on to a new document. Sort it out adobe this program should NOT have this level of bug at v14!

    Running a late 27" 4.2GHz i7 iMac with 24GB RAM 512BG SSD and Radeon 575

20. dublicate layer with object group

    If you dublicate a layer with a object group on it, and then ungroup (the also dublicated) objects on the new layer, they are all moved to their original layer.

    This objects should stay on the new layer!
