1. share for review isn't working for client

   My client gets: File preview error. File preview not available, please reload to try again.
   They can see the document icon to click on in the "Shared with me" but when they click on it, it gives the the: File preview not available, please reload to try again. They are on Windows if that helps. It appears to be working for everybody else that it was shared with.
   Update Resaved file with new name, reshared, all is working!

3. paragraph format

   Can't create a new paragraph format. To be more presice, I can't change the font settings itself (fontstyle, size etc.)

   It should look like the others underlined in green.

4. When will Indesign (and the whole adobe package) work with properly with Catalina?

   Indesign keeps crashing, version 2021, and earlier versions - tried this. Illustrator and photoshop, acrobat too. Very frustrating, luckily been able to work on my laptop instead. But as a good customer I am paying for software that isn't compatible with the platform that it is used with constantly? The update panel forces one to upgrade the OS and then it crashes. Pleaaaase fix this. 2020 is sad enough already

5. idml rechtecke verschoben

   Beim speichern in der 2020 Version als IDML und dann dem Öffnen bei einer anderen Person, die die 2018 Version hat, wurden Breiten/Höhen geändert und das Rechteck ist verrutscht statt X/Y 0/0 auf 0,88/0,88.

   Das ist für exakte Arbeit bedenklich und man kann dem System dadurch weniger vertrauen, es sollte also eine Lösung gefunden werden, sodass es in jeder Version gleich ist

   Beim erneuten öffnen der idml in der 2020 Version, in der es gespeichert wurde, sitzt alles wieder normal wie vorher.

6. [ID-4216889]Objects on the page jump if a left-hand page becomes a right-hand page and vice versa

   Hi developers,
   this is a longstanding bug:

   With facing pages documents on EVERY document page there is a zone where jumping of objects will happen.

   I call this the jump zone. All objects on a page that will jump are clearly inside the page's area. The bug has nothing to do with rounding errors where object edges are at the edge of a page.

   The objects should not move if pages are added or removed, if numbering of pages is changing. Nevertheless they do. Always. Unless, the zone has a width of zero.

   Below all the details.

   What is a jump zone?
   If horizontal values for left and right margins differ, there is a BUG that in effect forms a zone on the page.
   I call this zone JUMP ZONE because objects that touch the zone with their edges could jump horizontally.

   When will objects jump?
   1. When a left-hand page becomes a right-hand page OR a right-hand page becomes a left-hand page.

   1. When a left-hand page becomes a right-hand page and later when a right-hand page becomes a left-hand page again.

   This could happen within a single InDesign document open.

   WARNING:
   It could even happen to InDesign documents that are not visibly open.
   That's with InDesign documents that are part of a InDesign book file.
   The book file's feature with auto-numbering pages can do this even if no document is visibly open.
   The damage is done if auto-numbering took place AND the book file is saved.

   How large is the jump zone?
   The height of the zone is the height of the page.
   The width of the zone can be calculated:
   inner margin MINUS outer margin

   How large is the jump?
   The width of the jump zone.

   Where is the jump zone positioned?
   Positive value: The zone is at the spine of the page.
   Objects that touch the zone jump towards the spine.

   Negative value: The zone is at the edge of a page away from the spine.
   Objects that touch the zone jump away from spine.

   What versions of InDesign are affected?
   All versions CC up to InDesign 2020, Mac OS X and Windows.
   InDesign CS6, Mac OS X and Windows.

   Possibly also InDesign CS5 and CS5.5, Mac OS X and Windows.
   I did not test this.

   How can I avoid jump zones?
   Make right and left margin values the same!

   Are there workarounds if I cannot avoid jump zones?

   1. Anchor objects
      that touch the jump zone to text frames that do not touch the jump zone.
      Nested objects will not jump if the parent objects are not touching the jump zone.

   2. Group an object
      to another one that is touching the top or the bottom edge of the page.
      Tests are showing that objects will not jump if they touch the bottom OR the top of the page.
      ( OR both, bottom and top edges of the page .)

   Other things to consider about moving objects?
   The following is independently of jump zones:
   Objects could move to other pages if their edges touch exactly the horizontal edges on pages in facing pages.
   Depending on the version of InDesign this could also happen with objects touching the spine.
   Reason: Rounding errors.

   What can provoke all this?
   1. Add or remove an odd number of pages
   so that left-hand pages become right-hand pages and vice versa.

   1. Renumber start pages of sections so that left-hand pages become right-hand pages and vice versa.

   Note:
   Every document has at least one section by default.
   The start of that section is the first page in the document.

7. Layout drop down does not work

   When I click on the layout menu dropdown and select any of the options like move pages, delete, duplicate, etc. Nothing happens. I have the most recent version of InDesign. I also get a default option when I click on the File drop down options and requires me to restart so I can save, export to pdf etc.. This is incredibly frustrating.

   Low resolution preview has been chosen so that the review opens quickly in the browser on all types of networks.

9. Bug: Ligatures cause inconsistent font weight in exported PDFs

   PDFs exported from InDesign and viewed in Chrome display inconsistent font weights, and the issue appears to be linked in some way to ligatures.

   In my own testing, I have found the following, but I am not entirely confident that this is a complete picture of the problem:

   • Ligatures turned on everywhere = lighter text
   • Ligatures turned off everywhere = bolder text
   • Ligatures turned on in some places = inconsistent font weight line by line. Not certain if there is a regular pattern to these inconsistencies.

   Issue seems to present only when exported PDFs are viewed in Chrome, but I have not tested extensively. Issue seems to persist regardless of any PDF export settings.

   Tested most thoroughly with Roboto font, but upon quick checks the issue appears to occur with others, too.

   Issue is most noticeable with white text on a colored background, however it is more subtly noticeable with a white background, as well. Issue occurs in documents with no transparencies, so that does not appear to be a root cause (I mention as the only other reported examples I could find of inconsistent font weight in PDF exports were apparently related to having transparent objects such as shadows and PNG images in the document).

   I believe I have found examples of this issue in InDesign-generated PDFs found on the web, as well (e.g. attached GoToWebinar PDF, pp. 2–3: note how lines including the ti ligature are lighter than others). As a result, I don't think the issue is specific to my machine/installation.

   PDFs exported from InDesign and viewed in Chrome display inconsistent font weights, and the issue appears to be linked in some way to ligatures.

10. Placed PNG in InDesign, than export as PNG ... unfortunately the placed PNG displays as grey box.

    Placed PNG in InDesign, than exported as PNG ... unfortunately the placed PNG displays as grey box. I tested the same file and exported it as a PDF and as a JPG the placed PNG is visible. Hardware and software is up-to-date.

11. Reveal in Finder on NAS Server not working

    When using InDesign 14.0.3, on mac OS X Catalina (10.15.1), ctrl clicking the .indd file's title bar to reveal in finder doesn't work (switches to finder but doesn't reveal) if the .indd file is stored on NAS RAID server. Server connection is afp://
    Revel in Finder command works fine if the .indd file is stored locally.

13. Saving document presets always changes back to pica units

    When creating and saving new document presets, despite choosing a different unit such as inches or points, after hitting the save button, the document preset is only saved in picas unit measurement

16. Color changes when overprint preview is switched on.

    Hi,

    With the latest version of InDesign v16.0.1 running on macOS Catalina, a strange phenomenon appeared. When "Overprint Preview" in switched on displayed colors change. Oranges become reddish. When the images/vector graphics are checked in Photoshop or Illustrator they look OK.

    When Overprint Preview is OFF, colors are displayed correctly. But when OP is turned on, they change. Most drastic change takes place in the orange-red region.

18. text frame anchored causes ID to hang

    I have a text frame (with text wrap, and also an inline image) anchored to a line of text in the main story.

    When I adjust this frame while it is still anchored, it causes ID 16.0.1 to hang. This is the same behaviour as in versions before. No crash report because of ID 'just hanging'. The fix is force quitting.

    macOS 11.0.1. This was also happening with earlier versions of macOS.
    The remedy is: 'Free' anchored object, make adjustments, and re-anchore the frame.

    Added info:
    possible connection: this happens when anchored to text with paragraph shading!

    Whenever I open a document that contains the missing typeface Minion Pro Black, Indesign crashes on mac. Over and over...
    It does not crash when opened on PC.

20. Font name incorrect when a character style is applied

    If you make a character style that applies "Bold" (or some other font style) and then apply it to text, the font name changes incorrectly in the Font field of the Properties panel or Control panel.

    For example, if the character style applies "Bold" and you apply it to text set to Minion Pro, then the font name changes to "Minion Pro Bold" and the style also changes to Bold.

    This is incorrect. In older version of InDesign it worked correctly: The font name should stay "Minion Pro" and the style should change to "Bold"
