  1. Table Cell Strokes

It is something of a chore to select individual strokes in Window 'Cell Options' – Tab 'Strokes & Fills'.
… you need to align exactly the cursor's hotspot (to the pixel) on the stroke you wish to select or deselect… and often need to click a few times if you're slightly off. I often need to have, let's say all horizontal strokes selected in a table… so I have to deselect all vertical strokes.

Currently, we can double-clic to select, say the outside borders, or the inside.
But it would be nice to have buttons that would:
    - select/deselect all…

  2. [ID-4258038] Change the Eyedropper Tool back to default on the tool bar instead of the Color Theme Tool.

The standard Eyedropper Tool used to be the default option on the Tool bar. This was convenient for sampling colors as well as text styles. Now, there is no way to change the default from the Color Theme Tool to the Eyedropper. The Color Theme Tool has its place in Illustrator, but as InDesign is mostly used for text, it is crucial that the Eyedropper Tool is quickly accessible. In my career, I have barely used the Color Theme Tool in InDesign, whereas I use the Eyedropper daily. It is frustrating for my coworkers and I to now change…

  3. Convert PDF to INDD

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC can edit PDF's read images and text, and it is possible to edit, so why is this function not available in Adobe Indesign? Indesign has more control and the only feature that will needed to be added is detecting strokes/filled objects converting filled lines or shapes to one to the other.

  4. Endnotes--better coordination Word to InDesign

In the newer versions of ID, they very helpfully allow endnotes to be linked to the numbers in the text (so that, if you delete the number, the note itself is also deleted, and all renumber accordingly). However, when you import/place a Word file of text that has endnotes, the endnotes get placed into a separate text box, and it is obnoxious. I want to put the endnotes in the same text flow as everything else, but you can’t copy and paste because the notes are linked, and the numbers will get deleted from the text if you try to…

  5. Paste Variable text

In Find/Change have an option to paste a variable. I will often search for a word and then need to paste a variable. Currently I have to right-click the results, choose Insert Variable, and then choose the variable.

Do that 10 times when a writer forgets to use a variable, replace all would be great.

  6. Add preflight correction options like converting text to paths from Acrobat to the PDF export dialogue.

I often have to open documents in Acrobat just to convert the text into paths. Doing it in InDesign is not an option for me as it I often need the text to be editable in the InDesign file after exporting.

This could be either a single checkbox called convert text to paths or even a new Tab called PDF Corrections beneath Advanced, Security, Summary, etc where all the pdf correction options from Acrobats preflight menu are.

  8. Feature Request: AI-Powered Image to Alt Text Generation for Accessibility in InDesign

First of all, I want to thank you for the incredible new AI-powered features in InDesign, especially the ability to generatively expand images. This is a powerful tool that has significantly enhanced my workflow, and I greatly appreciate how Adobe continues to push the boundaries of design technology.

I would like to suggest a potential new feature that would further improve accessibility and efficiency in design. Specifically, it would be immensely helpful to have an AI-powered feature that generates alternative text (alt text) for images directly within InDesign. This would be particularly valuable for creating accessible documents, as alt …

  9. Add the Ability to turn off hover scrolling

Hover Scrolling lets you interact with the dropdown menus without ever having to click on them. Sounds cool, right?

Normally, this is not a problem, because you can easily see what has been changed because you've got an object selected. But when working with conditional text, the conditional text indicator visibility is a GLOBAL setting, and thus, hover scrolling over it can change your document, even with nothing selected. And if you're not on a page with conditional text. you'd never even know that your document got changed, until you send it to print!

    This has been plaguing…

  10. The footnote in journal layout

Please add the ability to make the text of the footnote in a separate frame, that would be able to use footnotes in a complex, journal layout. Often there are situations when some text frames, each one has footnotes and the text of these footnotes were at the bottom of the page, separately, and the numbering in turn.

  11. Please recognize ".tab" file-extension as tab delimited text file (data-merge)

Please recognize ".tab" file-extension as tab delimited text file (data-merge)
Now i have to rename the fileextension to .txt everytime.
Not very handy when you update the datafile quite often.

  12. Custom numbered footnotes

One feature is really missing from the beginning - and this a free style numbering (endnotes and footnotes as well).

So many times we get the Asterisk (*) as start, followed by numbered footnotes (1, 2, 3, 4, …). So it would be helpful to define something like this: *, # (<-- which means, first Asterisk and numbered from up there, etc.) Or *, o, # etc.

    Example for placed footnote text:

    • Temp o Temp 1 Temp 2 Temp 3 Temp . . .

It could be implemented in the footnote area of the text container (Command/STRG B) and…

  13. Fix endnote placement options to include placement immediately following chapter text.

I have yet to see a book with chapter endnotes that had notes starting on a new page rather than immediately after the chapter text. It isn't possible, though, in InDesign, to select this as an option. Can this be addressed?

  14. Create a more functional font menu please!

Make the fonts menu more functional.

    Show larger font samples
Let user see selected text or custom text as sample text (instead of just using "sample")
Ability to sort between serif, san-serif, decorative, handwritten, etc. Even if this means user needs to create "tags" to organize their own font libraries.

See the typekit website or any website that sells fonts. Do it like that.

The above functionality apart from having a different Sample text for font is now available in the latest version of InDesign i.e. InDesign CC 2018

  15. Remove hyperlink:

Remove hyperlink: There is no simple convenient way to remove a hyperlink. When you check, you find, "Edit Hyperlink" or "Go to destination". So, you go to "Edit" and find the hyperlink field, with the only option to delete the hyperlink being the word/letter info of the link that's in the entire field. But then it won't let you do that, saying: "! Invalid Entry". So, you have to reenter the text you had hyperlinked, then delete the text with the hyperlink. Please add a menu line, in both "Text-Hyperlink" and right-mouse-button "Hyperlink" that says and does "Remove…

If you have InDesign CC 2019, when you select a Hyperlink and look in the Properties panel, you will see 3 buttons – ‘Remove Hyperlink’, ‘Edit Hyperlink’ and ‘Manage Hyperlink’.
Remove Hyperlink does what it says – it removes the hyperlink. However, it retains the applied Character Style which can be manually changed by clicking the [None] style in the panel.
Manage Hyperlink opens the Hyperlinks panel (if it’s closed) and Edit Hyperlink lets you edit it.

    Hope this helps.

  16. Character styles applied to paragraphs apply to bullets as well

99.9% of the time I want bullets to match the text color. When changing the character color via the Paragraph Styles palette or when selecting the text and changing the color via the color palette, the bullets do just that. But when I select text and change the color via a character style, the bullets don't follow suit.

To give you an example of why this would be useful to me, one thing I often end up doing is creating two versions of something: one on a dark background, one on a light background. The only thing different between the…

  17. Alignment of anchor points is a really important feature

In many many situations - when working with lines, shapes or boxes - being able to align and distribute anchor points is needed. Having to do this in Illustrator and then bring it back to InDesign is not ideal, it makes small adjustments or corrections arduous and time consuming.

  18. Table of Contents: Character Style Improvements

TOCs need to be able to do three different things with character styles that are included in text in a generated TOC:

    1. The Character Style stays present in the TOC (this is currently what InDesign does)
    2. The Character Style is stripped.
    3. The Character Style is mapped to another character style.

These settings should accessible in the Style: <stylename> section of the TOC options -- customizable for each paragraph style used to generate the TOC.

The most notable use for the mapping style is when the typeface between the TOC and the body text of the book differs, or when the…

  19. Need option for auto-fit in table cell style

When I reduce the text size in table, the rows height not fit automatically and its manual work to fit the each row for whole table. It's make easier if we have option to fit the cell height automatically based on content like Object style "Auto-Size"option.

  20. Opacity of a cell fill

There needs to be an option to control the opacity of a cell fill.
The only option now is to go to cell options > Strokes & Fill and change the tint, but the effect is not the same as opacity (that will apply only the fill and not the text in the cell).
    Thank you
