  1. PDF comments: see/keep local formatting

I’m missing two things. First, the PDF Comments panel menu doesn’t display local formatting (italic, bold, bold italic) whereas these are visible in Acrobat. Second and most important, when accepting a comment, any local formatting doesn’t translate into InDesign. As if the whole content is treated as plain text.

  2. Change text & add button on message window when trying to close a file while background task is running

When you try to close a file while a background task is running you get a warning (Screenshot A). The word "cancel" appears there 4 times, so a fast reader would think clicking on "Cancel" will cancel something. But that's wrong. If you click on "Cancel", the window is closing. Nothing else.

So please change the button to "Close" (and in the German version to "Schließen" instead of "Abbrechen") to make clear nothing is cancelled.

In addition to that it would be nice to have a second button that helps the user to get directly to the background task panel

  3. Create Terminology-list

    Implement a function to handle a Terminology-List.

Of course - there are several Tools and PlugIns available to manage Terminology. In most cases these Products are not necessary and too big. And the all have two things in common: Price and Handling.

So the easiest way would be if we could have the possibility to manage on flattest way a terminology list (outside the document) by ourselve. In the first step it would be enough to have allowed terms and the banned terms in the list. Via the existing control board it should be possible to markup banned terms and…

  4. Full Screen / Split Screen Support for InDesign/InCopy on MacOS

It really would be helpful if the Adobe CC apps (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop et al) all did as Acrobat Pro DC does and properly implemented the MacOS full screen/split screen option.

This would allow people who use multiple and large monitors to properly designate workspace and split screens between two apps without toolbars/panels getting hidden by other apps.

  5. Integrate Optical Margin Alignment into Paragraph tab

Currently, the Story tab is a standalone tab, offering only one checkbox: the Optical Margin Alignment option. This functionality, in my opinion, is closely related to paragraph adjustments, such as paragraph alignment within text boxes. Given its nature, it seems more intuitive and efficient to integrate Optical Margin Alignment within the Paragraph tab or the main text formatting panel.

Adding the Story tab to my workspace alongside essential tabs like Character, Paragraph, and various styles consumes more horizontal screen space than necessary. Once positioned next to other panels, the tab's label, "Story," becomes difficult to read due to…

  6. Make possible search-for-tags in Story Editor

I need to search for tags in Story Editor, or in any manner besides the Structure panel, to remove conditions that are arbitrarily applied by InDesign (when a word has a condition applied).

  7. Chemin bibliothèque locale Indesign

    Hello,
Would it be possible to have the address locally in the "library" panel, as in the link panel? Indeed, CC libraries are handy, but 1 plugin in particular does not support them (EasyCatalog), and it is not practical to find local libraries when you have several of them.
    Thanks in advance.

  8. Make overset text + icon stand out better

Maybe it is just me grappling with this, but I find it extremely hard to see the overset text ‘+’ in the bottom right of the text frames. Sure, I can go to preflight panel and resolve everything from there, but I often fix many other things too as I go and work quite visually. If the box had a red fill and the + was white, it would stand out better. Currently I have to zoom way out to get an idea of where they are.

  9. Reinclude the cutter tool

The cutter tool has not been included as it was in old Pagemaker This tool is very useful. Without this tool, if you import an Autocad drawing, it is not possible to resize the content to the frame. I recommend to include this tool as it was in Pagemaker.

  10. Please, please, please increase the overall stability of InDesign.

I’ve lost count of the number of times functionality has gone missing (ie: unable to proportionally scale using key commands and my mouse, sliding elements vertically or horizontally without changing either their “x” or “y” coordinate (respectively), etc.

I would suggest (and I am absolutely serious about this) that Adobe take 3 months off from issuing any updates to the product and have all your techs, engineers and coders work out as many functionality issues a possible to improve the stability of the product. Don’t get me wrong, it is a fabulous product (and you have no real competition except…

  11. Interactivity, LIVE while using InDesign - Object States and Buttons that work at ANY time - ala AE 'Essential Graphics'

Interactivity, LIVE while using InDesign - Object States and Buttons that work at ANY time - ala AE 'Essential Graphics'.
There is the potential for InDesign to be a powerful QC authoring tool in our industry. We apply technical charts over the images which designers have created, like pitch/checker-decks. We need many different aspect ratios but repetition of the overlays and much of the info. We previously had over 90 layers the user would need to make visible or invisible - this is tedious and antithesis of good UX.
Essential Graphics in AfterEffects is somewhat close to the idea we…

  12. Onion skin layer for design notes to developer

Was just chatting with our UX lead and we thought it'd be great to have a master layer, fixed to the top of the layer panel called something like 'Design Notes' make handoff to dev easier with a few design notes included in the file itself but not a distraction when not needed.

  13. Speed up baseline setup

Setting up a baseline grid can be easier, I think.

A workflow speed-up like this would be great:

    1) select the basic text
    2) click on a button that does all these things at once:
    - Show baseline grid
    - base the baseline grid on the line height of the selected text without going to the preferences panel (line height, etc.)
    - align the text to the baseline grid

I think this feature is great for newer, and existing Indesign users and can be a great addition to the feature request in this thread:

It would be great to be able to delete all instances of a link from the Links panel.

  15. Save gradient swatch angles to object style

It would be nice to be able to save angles that you draw with the gradient swatch tool to the object style. I find it strange that we can save gradient feathers at any angle, but not gradient swatch tool angles.

  16. Toggle "Preview" ON by default

I'd like to see the effect of what I'm doing e.g. in the Paragraph panel by default. Can't find this in the application or on Google. This could easily be an option in the Preferences.

  17. Copy Info: File Name

Would love to see an option added in the 'Copy Info' dropdown in the links panel for copying only the filename.

Super handy for searching old drives for images in large catalogues or for relinking etc.

  18. view style dependencies

This has already been suggested but I would like to add.
The problem with viewing style dependencies using the twirling arrows is that the styles might well be in different groups.
Could we get an option to open (and maybe print) a panel with the style dependencies listed?
See the F11 panel in LibreOffice for an idea.

  19. Interactive button - Page destination - Acrobat

In the menu 'Objects > Interactive objects > Convert to button' one get a panel with some options with mouse over effect and macros (what the button should execute after the use interact with it). So if you choose page destination 'Go to page' and then export to PDF (interactive) you get a warning error message, that the button will be visable in Acrobat, but the 'Go to page' commande will not work.

This seems like an essential feature when dealing with interactivity.
Please make it work directly within InDesign! It would be so much smoother than the workaround to…
