Table of contents update only page numbers
Like in MsWord, it would be a nice feature to update the table of contents and update only the numbers, or update text and numbers together. Sometimes people change long words in a table of content just to fit a header into one line of text. Or they add a few words behind the header just to make the table of content easier to understand. When updating the table of content then it would be nice if you could choose to update only the numbers.

Actually it is inbelievable that this option has not been introduced yet. The necessity to recreate the whole TOC in order to update the page numbers is a source of annoyment whenever we work on books.

I strongly agree with you, this feature is really needed.
In the meanwhile I use a small trick to update the pg nb only without affecting the changes in my toc headings.
My way is to create a hidden layer for every heading, with the needed changes in text.
of course all other steps to create a toc will be the same (such as paragraph and character styles and.. to stylize my toc).
Then my toc entries will be those hidden layers of my updated headings, and I click that option in toc creating panel (include text on hidden layers) . Any changes needed later will be in those hidden layers, and after that all I needed is to update my toc, so only pg nb and any other changes in the hidden layers will be updated without affecting the style and text content in the toc.If there is another simplest way, I will appreciate your suggestion.
