1. Table of content – Styling improvement

   1) Please make the TOC dialogue box scaleable: especially the include paragraph styles box is unmanageable (long names are not visible and after applying settings to a style it scrolls back to the top of the list)
   2) Please include option to strip or override character styles in TOC
   At the moment you need a lot of paragraph styles to set up the TOC, especially when having multicoloured headlines, both in document and TOC
   3) Please give text boxes an option "include in TOC" (helpful when having the same headline on several pages) and the option to enter alternate wording and line breaks. For easier formatting of the TOC it would be great to have the possibility to make groups (chapters)

2. Notification after background task completes

   Sometimes background tasks can take a fair bit of time and we may switch to other things, take a phone call, go to lunch, meeting....If the Alerts panel was more about notifications, we would be able to know a bit more of what has happened with the task - if it completed, how long it took or even provide a link to view or email the exported PDF.

3. Import/Export PDF Comments

   The new "Import PDF comments" feature is nice but ideally, you could retain some of the unresolved comments in the subsequent export. It was also be great to have the ability to reply to the comments. The new feature works great for minor fixes but if the comments are unclear or further communication is needed on the topic it would be great to be able to keep them comment with a reply, etc. Thank you!

4. transparent table strokes

   Currently, when we want to make transparent gaps between cells, we have to do very complicated workarounds like extra empty cells doing the job of transparent strokes, which makes the table very inflexible.

   It would be very good if it was possible to make cell strokes transparent. Another option could possibly be to add a cell gap property to tables, like we have in HTML - this gap would always be transparent.

   A third option would be if transparency could be made to work on tables, like it does on all frames. Then we could, for instance, set a white stroke and choose Multiply as the blending mode for the stroke, which would render it transparent. Transparency would also be a very good addition to table design in itself.

5. allow me to hide/unhide some tools on main tool panel

   some tools (page tool, gap tool, content collector) are rarely used and I'd like to stop accidentally selecting them, I'd like to hide some of them some of the time.

6. Accessibility—Artifact tables for layout, but keep their content

   Sometimes designers use a table for layout purposes, not for a traditional spreadsheet-like matrix data in columns and rows.

   Example: A table that creates a complex, multi-celled form. For layout, it's easier to create rows and columns to hold the form labels and form control fields.

   However, when the form is exported to PDF, the table structure itself is not needed and often gets in the way of many assistive technologies.

   Need a way to artifact the table structure itself, but retain the content within the table as live text and form fields. And of course, have it correctly tagged and in the correct reading orders in the PDF.

   Some sample forms are attached.

8. Delete Multiple Index Entries

   As it is, if you "add all" with the index tool, it creates an index entry for every instance of the selected word. Sometimes it might have that word 20 times on a page over a range of pages. As it is now, each of these entries over multiple pages must be deleted one-by-one by dragging the number individually into the trash can in the index tool. It would be awesome if you could select multiple entries at once (by using +ctrl or + shift) so you could drag multiple entries into the trash. This would increase my efficiency by hours over the course of an indexing job.

9. Option in TOC dialogue which merges the same instances into one followed by a page range number

   I have a design guide with a complex table of contents (see toc1.png).

   There are topics like “Head - und Subline Allgemein” (see toc1.pgn) which spans over 3 different pages. After generating the TOC the topic is listed 3 times followed by their associated page number (see toc1.pgn).

   I would like to see a check box in the table of contents dialogue box which merges all the same instances into one followed by the page range number (see toc2.png)!

   Perhaps with a control of what character separates the two page numbers.

    The ability to search on more than 1 paragraph/character style at once. Sometimes you have a Find that you need to do on more than one style – rather than go through each style at once, the ability to select a range of styles would be useful.

    "Table Options > Fills > Alternating Fill" is very useful.
    However, if the table spans multiple frames, the next frame may start with the color of the second line.
    This specification is of great significance for instantly judging odd/even numbers in a row, but sometimes it is not desirable if it is simply for visual purposes.

    For example, like the header option "Once per Frame", the next frame/page requests an additional option that allows you to apply the color set as the first line.
    Of course, it covers rows, columns, fillss, and strokes evrything.

12. Possibility to change the color of an SVG icon

    SVG icons are usually single color (black). It would be nice if the color can be changed in Indesign. Now this can be done with the Inner Glow Effect, but a simple direct color selector would be much easier.

13. Add PDF tags in Character styles

    In documents, we often have characters that need to be artifacted in the exported PDF, such as:

    Decorative bullets that aren't a list.

    The "end of story" glyph (called an end of proof sign, U+220E)

    Dot leaders between tabs or in TOCs

    And just about any other glyph a designer uses for pure design, not semantic content.

    Add PDF Export Tags to Character Styles and let us designate these items to be artifacted, as well as apply these other inline character-level tags:

14. Share several separate files as one (using Book feature possibly) in Share for Review

    The Share for Review is a fantastic feature.
    We publish magazines that are designed in several different files for each section. It would be great if you could combine files and share for review (possibly using the Book feature). Currently the Book features allows you to create a single PDF from several separate files into one.
    
    This option would be great when Sharing for Review instead of creating a PDF.

15. Utilize paragraph shading for text messages with improved functionality

    The new paragraph shading feature would be fantastic to use for laying out text message conversations in books/long from documents, but needs a few tweaks to make is fully functional. Text messages in books is becoming very common and having them run in the text while paging is crucial.

    It used to be that you had to create shapes and anchor each in for a text message. Now you can use Paragraph Shading defined in the style for left side texts with no adjustments, but because right side text messages need to have the "bubble" shape aligned right, but the interior text left aligned. My solution is (see sample file):
    Create three base paragraph styles:
    1. <left_side_text>: Defined: All text styling, paragraph shading set to Text, right/left indents, alignments, and space above/below, etc.
    2. <right_side_text>: Defined: Based on <left_side_text>, but remove left/right indents
    3. <right_side_text_align>: Defined: Based on <right_side_text>, but change to align flush right, add right indent (if needed), turn off paragraph shading.

    Next steps:
    1. Cut out all the <right_side_text> and create a standalone text frame for each text message.
    2. Create (or leave) empty returns where each right side text was and apply <right_side_text_align> to the return.
    3. Paste the text frames into the empty returns where appropriate to anchor frame.
    4. Select each frame and apply the Object style (Text Message Right in sample file).

    Could there be a way to separately control the shading alignment from the interior text alignment within the paragraph style? Much like how text functions within a div?

16. It is SO important to have footnotes continue the numbering throughout a whole document without restarting the numbering every text frame

    It is bad document design to have the whole document in one single text frame (a nightmare when doing changes and everything moves). At the very least each chapter should start with a new text frame. So it seems crazy that you can set footnote numbering to restart every page, spread or section but when none of these are selected the numbering should flow through the whole document! NOT restart for each text frame. Thank you.

18. Clear/erase "recent file" list.

    Untill the new open/splah dialog, the recent file list wasn't a problem.
    It was hidden into the File menù, and was almost impossible to see it.

    Now with the new open / splash screen everyone is able to watch the document you opened previously.
    In some occasion this is not that nice, especially if you work for someone and some of them competitors...

    It could be useful to introduce an "erase recent document" at the end of the list in the File->Recent file menu.
    As many other softwares has.

19. Hyphenation Options

    Please add a checkbox (or something), so that you can turn off hyphenation of words that are connected to an em dash, and for words that already have a hyphen in them. And related to that, please always break hyphenated words/phrases/URLs at the hyphen, instead of adding another hyphen.

    We currently have to search for all these "bad breaks" and this feature would be a big help.

20. Add Creative Cloud Libraries to InCopy

    InCopy users would find CC Libraries very useful in many situations. Why aren't they part of the CC Library party?

    They could import selected graphics from a shared CC Lib to the story (as anchored graphics), same as they can Place them now. They could use them to bring in boilerplate text via linked InDesign text. They could use them to add styles to their standalone InCopy docs (eg, the body style for the INDD file the story will be flowed into). I'm sure there are more uses!
