1. Playing GIFs in InDesign, improve export to PDF

   Currently there is no way to add a GIF image to the indesign file. In my case I would like to place a GIF image into my portfolio with ability to export it into PDF keeping the play function of the image. Neither in InDesign nor PDFs support this feature and the only way is to present it is to export into EPUB which is useless for the sake of the portfolio sharing as if it limits how file could be reviewed. Please, look at the problem and add interactive feature as if it will be helpful for presentations of ideas. As an architectural student and a future architect I find this will be an important addition how I can share my ideas with other people in a less cluttered way keeping the volume of the information shared.

2. Export PDF by master page

   Please give us the option to export an InDesign file by master page. We often have documents divided into subsections based on master page. For example we recently output certificates where each department was one InDesign file and each subdepartment its own master page. The client wanted proofs only by subdepartment. The option to output only master page "x" with its corresponding name, would be time-saving.

3. Show Import Options when Dragging File from Finder

   When Placing a file, there is an option to show Import Options. This is helpful for inserting a select range of pages. It would be helpful if this same option was available when dragging a PDF file from my Desktop/Finder. Often times, I will have my finder window open which contains my projects home directory. Simply dragging the PDF into the InDesign document is much quicker than having to go through the process of locating in File->Place route.

4. PDF preset that includes a stored password

   When making PDFs, I'd like a way to make a preset that includes a stored password. When you have to make many PDFs with security, it's very time consuming to enter the same info over and over.

5. Add text wrapping feature to combo box for interactive pdf drop down boxes with statements/questions.

   I am trying to create an interactive pdf interview guide for my company. We would like to have the possible questions they can ask in a drop down format to help ensure the same question isn't asked by multiple people. I need to be able to add more characters to the combo box, then I also need them to automatically text wrap so that the text isn't displayed as a tiny line of text that isn't readable. I think Excel allows you to create drop downs with sentences that will wrap text.

6. Packaged PDFs

   Please make the default for packaging PDFs include a .125 bleed, not 0 bleed. As a printer, or best workflow is pdf, but 99% of files received from clients contain no bleed when they are packaged. Also, I have not found a way myself to change the bleed amount for a packaged pdf. Please make this easier to edit as well.

7. Use layout name and custom text for export separate PDFs

   Would love to see the ability to type custom text in the suffix for export separate PDF. Also, would like to see the ability to add the layout name from the flyout menu, currently it's only "incremental numbers," "page number" and "page size."

8. when creating pdf output, please make the crops .5" when bleed isn't specified, right now it saves to a weird measurement

   when bleed size isn't specified and crop marks are checked, pdf when exported adds a weird measurement to contain the crop marks. please let it be a standardized .5" -- that way when a pdf shows crops and bleed you can know that the finished size is 1 inch smaller, not have to do math with .389 or whatever. this will also help with print production as trimming in bindery is now mostly digital. the guys can punch in .5" and not have to do math or be fractionally off.

9. Add the possibility to add alternative Text to Tables.

   like in MS Word.
   Reason: we need to publish our print-products as an disability accessable PDF. Sometimes, it is helpful to add an alternative text to the table

10. Properties Panel - make it customisable

    I'd like to be able to add things that I use often to it.

    For example, with nothing selected, it has the options for the Document Layout.
    I would like to add to that to include

    Export PDF - and select my proof settings

    So in essence - I could add the options to export to
    Print Ready PDF
    Proof PDF
    Image file format

    etc. - just to be able to add those things would make this panel even better.

    There are other things I'd like to add to this property panel - but that's the general idea, and everyone would have their own things they use often that they would add.

    I'd like to be able to add things that I use often to it.

11. Share several separate files as one (using Book feature possibly) in Share for Review

    The Share for Review is a fantastic feature.
    We publish magazines that are designed in several different files for each section. It would be great if you could combine files and share for review (possibly using the Book feature). Currently the Book features allows you to create a single PDF from several separate files into one.
    
    This option would be great when Sharing for Review instead of creating a PDF.

12. Mark layers as visible in the exported PDF but non-printing from within InDesign export settings

    PDFs have the ability to mark layers as non-printing, so that they appear visible on the screen but don't print to hard copy. I'm using this capability to add a light raster background to all pages of a workbook for students, which adds a bit of warm color to the on-screen viewing experience, but I don't want this background to use up all their toner if they decide to print the pages. Similarly, the entire workbook has page numbers, but the worksheets should print without the page numbers, because they're not relevant outside the context of the book.

    I found a solution thanks to helpful advice on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/indesign/comments/191ojvr/creating_a_pdf_with_visible_objects_that_do_not/), but the solution requires changing settings in the PDF after the export, which means that you have to redo it every time. It might be preferable to have an option on the layer options within InDesign, or a set of options in the export dialogue that can be saved as part of the preset. Not only would this make for a more comfortable user experience, but it would also save a lot of hassle figuring out how to do this in the first place, because it's not obvious that there wouldn't be a way to do it in InDesign and many things look like they would work until you try them.

    I've included an excerpt from the PDF to show how the result works and to better communicate how such a feature would be useful.

13. More options when creating Forms via InDesign

    InDesign has a few features that make it possible to export an interactive PDF-Formular directly from InDesign.

    This CAN save a lot of time when customers require changes on these Files but sadly InDesign is missing out a lot of features that Adobe Acrobat has - even though it'd be a lot easyier to set everything up in InDesign.

    So in my opinion the Formular menue needs some improvement and get more functionality (In Acrobat you can define a font VS via InDesign you can't) since more and more customers request Interactive PDF-Forms etc.

    It would be valuable to us because we have to edit every file we create after every change just to make those adjustments that can't be done via InDesign yet.

    we have always to open new generated pdfs in acrobat to edith settings like

    - safety/password

15. other default setting for layer options when placing PDFs

    When placing a PDF, default setting for actualization is "keep user-defined visability ...".
    Once switched to "keep PDFs visability ...", in the next document it is again on default "keep user-defined visability ..."
    I would prefer to have "keep PDFs visability ..." as a stable default for placing.

    Example:
    1. I added a new Layer to a PDF, but set it invisable by mistake.
    2. On actualization, I accepted "new layers visible as in PDF".
    3. Later, I remarked my mistake an repaired the PDF.
    4. On actualization again, nothing got better ...

    I would prefer to know the PDFs as definitly "Masters of visability" ... without having to check objekt-layer-options.

    Could you add a preference option, which allows to choose such a manner?

16. Would like to be able to share a pdf (for proofing/approval) straight out of InDesign. Exceeding valuable as it skips steps.

    In the busy print workflow environment it would be nice to skip steps when providing clients with proofs for review/approval. Creating and sending a pdf proof to clients straight out of InDesign would be just the thing. Currently, as you know, you export the InDesign document as a pdf, open it up in Acrobat and share the file for review. While the Acrobat function is fine (although we've noticed lag time in clients receiving the proof) in the face-pace environment of a printshop, where many of these proofs are processed, it would be a time saver.

17. Make text variables/live captions breakable like normal text

    We work a lot with pictures that get there captions from xmp meta data stored in the pictures.

    There is a great feature in InDesign called textvariables/live captions ;) for this… BUT these variables don‘t wrap like normal text :(

    Instead we have to convert the live captions to static text to get the proper text warp and in doing so losing our live link to the XMP meta data.

    So please enhance this feature to a real feature and allow variables to wrap like normal text. Thanks!

18. Text box on different place in PDF vs. InDesign doc

    A colored text box moved 1,5mm from the position in InDesign-file to the position in the exported PDF. I had 8 versions of this file and in one it appeared on a different place in the PDF. When printing with only black plate changed, the the text was 1.5 mm lower in black. Is there a solution? Is this a bug? 80.000 printed pcs. to the trash and 4 new plates to solve the problem. Any help?

19. scroll through PDF pages while ALREADY placing with cursor directly in document

    i'd love to have a feature where i can scroll through the pages of a multi-page PDF document AFTER i i've been in the import options and when i'm already placing stuff directly in the document with the placement cursor.

    for expample using the arrows keys (similar to creating a grid when placing multiple images) to scroll to page 5 when the next page would actually be page 2. in addition to the little preview image next to the cursor this might speed up things a lot in some cases.

    enlighten me if this is already possible. all i found via google where people who did not discover the import-options yet – which is NOT what i mean.

    if it's not clear what i'm talking about, let me know.

    P.S. Same would be nice for importing InDesign Dokuments or Illustrator-Files with several artboards.

20. Share for review - A Great New Feature

    I just started testing the new Share for Review and am really liking it so far - very smooth and an upgrade over the Publish online feature which I tried but found was no better than just saving a PDF to the cloud and sharing that. I like that in Share for Review I can just hit update on an active document. I am hoping over time to see the following added to this great new feature:

    • The ability to allow clients to download a PDF version
    • More Annotation tools (Highlights, cross-out, underlines, etc...)
    • The Ability to Create Versions
    • Bonus for an Approved/Changes Required buttons
    • Extra Bonus if we could somehow incorporate the Import Changes feature from Import PDF comments feature. Maybe a Replace text annotation type tool?
