Text Variables in Floating Window/Pod
Text Variables needs a dockable window/panel/pod. Pull defining new variables out of the Text menu and put it in a panel that we can access without having to drill down through the UI.
Having Text Variables available in a panel in this fashion would let us place the cursor, double-click to add a variable, move the cursor via arrows and double-click the next variable. We would also be able to click several variable in a row without having the laboriously drill down through the UI to get to the list. This is very frustrating when you have several…

Showing open book files on Start workspace
Situation now:
When opening a book file Indesign adds a book panel showing all contained documents. You can then open documents through this panel. I usually dock the panel to the right with my other panels to keep the workspace tight and clean. But now the tricky part:
When I close all documents I've set Indesign to return to the Start workspace. This shift to another workspace makes the book panel disappear as well (since it is docked with the other panels). I have to go to the menus to find the panel again.
I guess the…4 votes -
InDesign book file (.INDB) total page count
If you're making a book using a book file (.INDB), the InDesign Book file panel should have a total page count. Sometimes the page count is not accurate, especially if you have frontmatter to a book that uses roman numerals and start with 1 later in the book. It would be nice if the absolute total number of pages showing somewhere on that panel. We publish books and have to stick to strict signature breaks for presses, so total page count is very important information to us, and it'd be nice to quickly get that information instead of having…

Adding the ability to create a new textbox from selected text.
By adding the option to make a text selection its own, new text box, it takes the hassle out of having to switch through tools and reformat copy. With this option, layouts would be a lot easier to fathom when you can break up the text simply by highlighting and creating the new box.

Use regular selection tool with grouped objects
I would like to be able to select multiple objects within a group using the regular Selection Tool. Currently InDesign only allows me to select 2 items within a group. If I try to select a third object it "exits" the group. The Direct Selection Tool allows me to select multiple grouped objects, but will sometimes select just a vertex or other sub-element of an object. It would be great if the regular selection tool could select as much content within a group as desired. Thanks!

Interactive PDF/Form Function
Interactive PDFs - Better functions for Setting Tab Order.
Being able to reorder interactive items in InDesign is a great feature (instead of doing so in Acrobat) but there is room for growth.
Having the ability to track the selections you're reordering would be nice. For example, you select an item in the box and it selects or highlights those items on your page so you know for sure what you're reordering.
You could use the active document to select an item and have the Set Tab Order box open/working to reorder.
Having the ability to expand…

I would like to suggest integrating generative AI testing tools capabilities into InDesign to enhance automation and smart workflow optimization. By leveraging AI-driven intelligence, InDesign could automatically analyze document layouts, detect design inconsistencies, suggest formatting improvements, and even generate templates based on user behavior or uploaded samples.
This would significantly reduce manual effort, improve design accuracy, and streamline repetitive publishing tasks. Integrating AI-powered automation similar to generative AI testing tools could make InDesign more adaptive, intelligent, and efficient for modern content creators and production teams.

Add an "Align to Bleed" in the Align panel/options or Snap to Bleed in View.
The align pallet is invaluable to me as I design catalogs with lots of pages with bleed that switch from left to right regularly during the process, with different backgrounds too. However, when aligning to bleed, I have to manually line up the backgrounds with the bleed line, and its a minor inconvenience not to mention leaves room for human error. Would love to be able to quickly align my backgrounds to right or left outside bleeds, and also snap my backgrounds to the bleed line to make sure it is 100 percent lined up. Sometimes it looks like it…

Make Libraries Panel Drag & Drop When Adding
Hi There,
I only use libraries for one client but am quickly discovering it's not that intuitive. It's great that libraries now isn't the default but when you need it, why can't you drag everything into it?
Obvious examples...
- You can't drag colours
- You can't drag text styles (paragraph or character)And regarding text, if you drag a text box, dragging it back should add the textbox with text etc. If you drag a text style onto an existing text box, it should only apply the style etc.
Just let us add anything to the library via drag…

Add HiDPI scaling for InDesign Mac OS
Please add scaling for UI and Tools for Mac version. I'm using an external 4K display so OS X system display scaling doesn't work as it does for Retina displays.. UI scaling in Illustrator works perfectly for me on my Mac, having this in InDesign would really be appreciated.

Hyperlinks report
The Hyperlinks panel needs to be better overhauled please. I have a 300 page magazine with hyperlinks in each section (different sections provided by a team) ... so a Report Hyperlinks option would be very useful please, in the same way you can generate a Report in the Links panel.

Document Time Tracker
This would be a feature to see the dates / time spent on a document. It could be accessed in the documents info panel (attached). This feature would be useful for client invoicing and project managing especially in advertising where time is money.

Import PDF comments via INDB File
It looks like Import PDF comments only works for individual document files. We use compiled book files for our authors at AuthorSupport.com. Will this be a feature that eventual can be imported via the book panel and applied to the compiled documents?

CJK and Arabic Toolsets
I frequently have to typeset Japanese, Chinese and Arabic, and it's very unfortunate the interfaces for the language tools cannot all be included in the same version.
My understanding is that every version of the software is identical under the hood, and there's a simple hidden parameter that enables the different language tools after a reboot, but it would allow for a much smoother workflow if this could be done within the software. For example, under Workspaces have the option to choose workspaces that use a different language toolset, with a reboot required if necessary. Can this be addressed…

Direct Editing of Photoshop Layers in InDesign
Description:
Currently, users must switch back to Photoshop to edit layer details, masks, or effects before re-importing images into InDesign. This process can be time-consuming and interrupts the creative flow. It would be highly efficient to enable direct editing of Photoshop layers—such as brush adjustments, opacity, blend modes, and layer masks—within InDesign itself, without needing to reopen Photoshop.Benefits for Users:
Streamlines the workflow by reducing the need to switch between Photoshop and InDesign
Speeds up the design process, as minor adjustments could be made directly in InDesign
Allows more flexibility in applying last-minute edits and achieving the desired look…6 votes -
Improve style panels
Three things that would be amazing for the styles panels (we use a lot of styles, so managing them better would be a huge boon):
1) Snap the current folder you're in to the top of the panel once it scrolls out of view, so it's easy to close the folder you're in once you're done.
2) Include some way of viewing the "based on" hierarchy all at once rather than having to go into a style's properties to see what's contingent on what.
3) Have labelling and filtering as per photoshop's layers panel - so you can find…
