Retain font styles when copying/pasting text from Photoshop to InDesign.
I prefer to mockup print projects in Photoshop (including text) because I have faster/better control when I want to edit images and previsualize the end result. Once I have my final layout I switch to InDesign and replace the text so it's not bitmapped before printing. It would be great if I could just copy and paste the text from Photoshop to InDesign and it would retain the font style (size, weight, color, tracking, leading, etc) rather than having to make all of those adjustments by hand. Currently copying/pasting font styles works between Photoshop and Illustrator, but not PS…

Additional Conditional text options
I do a lot of publishing work, and one of the banes in the day of a Publishing Designer, is changing spines, it would be great is there was a conditional text option that enabled me to drag a box to the spine width and for that box to report it's width!
In an ideal world if it could also report the height so we can show the height and width of a book, it would be fabulous!5 votes -
Scaling Text in InDesign
I would like to suggest an improvement to how InDesign handles text scaling. Currently, when I scale an object containing text, the visual size of the text changes, but InDesign still shows the original size in the text panel, displayed in parentheses. This forces users to go through several complicated steps to make the scaled text size permanent without showing the parentheses.
It would be incredibly useful if Adobe could implement a simple feature where the scaled text size is automatically updated to a permanent size, without needing to create outlines or perform manual recalculations. This would streamline workflows…

Inserting multipage PDF into frames
I want to be able to insert multipage PDF file into Indesign in easier way, something like: create a frame, set settings, on the first page and then I want Indesign to create exact amount of pages as in PDF file and insert it automatically to box on each page with the same settings as the box on the first page. Thank you.

RTL support in Adobe Composer (not Adobe World-Ready Composer)
Adobe's Ready World Composer is designed to provide a solution for RTL languages, such as Hebrew and Arabic. But lots of InDesign features don't work at all. (OpenType by Frame, Flush Space, Optical Margin Aligment and more ...)
Instead of fixing this composer, I suggest that the regular composer also will support RTL writing.477 votes -
Ability to copy and paste only the text style
After copying any text field by any means, having the ability to do a special paste on an different text field (copy/apply the properties and not the actual text).
Wordpress-Elementor has this feature and can be a real time saver for quickly making small changes to various smaller text fields.

Text Variable as a consecutive number
Possibility of defining and inserting a text variable as a consecutive number of the list.
Thanks to this variable it will be possible to number subsequent words in a sentence. For example (1) thing, (2) thing, (3) thing etc, or thing1, thing2, thing3 etc. There are infinitely many possibilities. Verse of poetry at the end of the verse etc. References to comments which are not endnotes or footnotes (without laborious definition of cross references). Sometimes it is necessary to list the words or any fragment of text within a paragraph, or to add numbered references to comments inside the text…3 votes -
Optical Margin Alignment as part of paragraph styles
It would be very helpful to have the option to include Optical Margin Alignment included in paragraph style sheets.

Enable column rules to ignore text wrap and anchored objects.
As it is now, column rules adhere to text wrap and will no longer "extend" if near an image with text wrap applied. Furthermore, placing an anchored object, an inline image for example, causes the rule to exhibit the same behavior in that it stops once it reaches the anchored object. Would like an option for column rules to simply ignore text wrap/anchored object so that the rules continue to extend.
This would help me (and others) to keep a consistent appearance as needed. In the attached example, there's a 3 column product listing where you can see how awkward…

Enhanced Full Vertical Justification feature
Currently, InDesign's vertical justification is very basic and has several drawbacks that render it useless for professional layout.
1. Very limited Control. The only parameter you can set is the additional gap that will be added between paragraphs.
2. Beyond that threshold, InDesign adds gaps between the paragraph lines - a typographical catastrophe, without any possibility for control.
3. The VJ control is and text frame attribute and not in the paragraph style level' which causes un proportional separation between headlines and text - again, typographically un expectable.
4. The alignment is done without any consideration to the amount…11 votes -
Align Stroke to Outside option by default
For me the default Stroke Alignment setting should be Outside. I am always using boxes and frequently need to change the stroke widths. Since the default setting is Center alignment, this resizes the box, which I can't imagine anyone ever wanting. There doesn't seem to be any way to change the default stroke alignment to Outside, so I am constantly having to change this in the Stroke window. Which means we must have the Stroke window open simply because we cannot set the Outside as default. InDesign 19.2, Mac Ventura.

Mimic Text Box
For Example: If you have a list of people and you create a text box for each person that has a number in the text box.
Further in the document you would have a map that also has the numbers showing which person is situated where.
What would be very helpful is to have those 2 numbers (1 and 1, 2 and 2, etc.) be able to auto update the other.
So when someone is removed from the list, the person numbered 10 originally now becomes 9, which also auto updates on the map

Fix the inconsistency of the text wrap from Indesign to Incopy - we randomly get where the text wrap is lost in InCopy.
Fix the problem with InCopy dropping the text wrap. So irritating - this needs to get fixed!!!

Adding feature for first page number in Text Variable
We work a lot in typesetting Journal which need to mention page number for each article. The 'last page number' in Text Variable are very useful and I wish to have an option for first page number in the feature. In current situation, I have to change the first page number manually if the pagination changed.

Find/Change Apply to Anchored Text Boxes
Find/change should be able to include any text boxes anchored in the search of a text box/story/selection. I use anchored text box objects in tables a lot, and on occasion, it would be helpful to be able to make a change to all the text with a certain paragraph style in a story, but not in the whole document. But with anchored objects, find/change won't see any text in anchored objects if you select the text box with the anchors, and you can't select multiple anchored objects at the same time. This makes it impossible/useless to find/change multiple text items…

Better text variables
Text variables are so... basic at the moment.
Can it get some love like GREPs search has? Unbelievable that you can't pull the first page or section titles... but how about some simple math operations in there too and combine them with GREP operations? Would be hugely useful to have some dynamic tools like this added to make on page information update in response to layout changes.

Paragraph shading (and borders) should be able to clip/inset based on the text box
Paragraph shading extends outside of the text box. This is especially annoying when shaded text spans over multiple pages (see screenshot: AutoShading.png). It would be great if it could automatically clip and inset based on the text box—see screenshot: HowItShouldLook.png. The current solutions I can think of are really messy and easily negated.

Underlined spaces at the ends of lines in running text
- It would be nice if, when an underlined space falls at the end of a line in running text, the space "disappears" so that it's underline isn't hanging out in space like a ghost..
- It's valuable because it looks weird when an underlined space sticks out beyond the last nonwhite-space character in the line. It's particularly noticeable in justified type, but I think the same principal applies regardless of the justification.
