1. Highlighting Currently Edited Document In Book

   on to Hello there,

   I edit two copies of a book open at once, each one a different format. If you look at the picture you will see what the two books look like in the books editor-kind of. I am migrating one copy of my book from A4 to ePub for Kindle (why don't you support the .mobi Kindle format or get Amazon to write a plugin for the purpose? I am forced to use Word to write a kindle book). The file are in two different folders. The files have the same name for each book.

   It would be really useful if InDesign highlighted the document in the book panel that I am currently editing. Especially, if you are editing over 30 documents per book.

   I also might have imagined this, but if you have two files open from two different books that have the same name, when you save one of the files, it saves the other file with the same name. This is very "dangerous". I had made edits to one file that I wanted to keep and edits to the other I did not. InDesign saved both files even though only saved using the menu. The result is that it trashed one of the files by putting tentative but major changes on n on top of what was a completed document that I effectively wanted to roll back to-I did not want to keep the changes.

2. Make panel contextual menus accessible from Properties panel

   I really love the new Properties menu - it does a great job of saving monitor real estate. It looks like the April 2019 update has fixed a few of the initial teething troubles but one thing still bugs me. If I want to access any of the contextual menu options, I can't do it via Properties. It means, unless I know every shortcut, or want to go through the menu bar I still need to keep panels such as Paragraph open all the time, just in case I need to get to one of those options.

   It'd be great if a small button appeared in the mini sections that pop up in the Properties panel, to allow you to access the full range of commands for that section.

3. Upsample Images on PDF Export

   DESCRIPTION:

   Indesign could offer the option of upsampling images to a specified PPI on PDF export. Rather than requiring the user to find each under-res image and manually destructively upsample each with a round-trip through Photoshop.

   Optimally, there could be a threshold setting below which an image resolution is too low. This could be either "effective" resolution PPI number threshold ("Upsample images with an effective placed resolution above 120ppi"), or a max scale percentage that would be needed to get the image up to the set output resolution ("Upsample images within 40% of target resolution." or "Upsample images by no more than 250%.")

   Export dialog could offer different options for dealing with grossly undre-res images or a global "low-resolution" preferences could be set to throw an error at the initial export command similarly to how it deals with missing or modified links.

   I understand that the Preflight panel is already designed to manage resolution issues. But I'm suggesting the option of a workflow where image upsampling happens only for a specific individual PDF output rather than permanently modifying linked source images.

   REASON:

   1. It can be time-consuming to review and override each error that a slightly under-resolution image will throw with modern highly-automated print workflows. (I mean, come on, can anyone see the difference between 280 and 300 ppi once printed? Of course not, but the press doesn't want the liability so throws automated errors if any image is even just 1% under the target resolution.)

   2. Sometimes it's necessary to use images that are not available at any additional resolution and require resampling to choose softness over pixelation. But it can be a nuisance to manage the multiple up-sampled assets hanging around after various uses ("Oh look! Here's a higher resolution version! Dangit, nope, it's just another upsample.") A source image would preferably remain at the actual original resolution since in most cases an upsampled image is made for a specific output.

4. Allow more customization in Export Tagging

   I love that InDesign can convert my paragraph/character styles into CSS for me when exporting to epub or xml. But it would be really handy if I could customize what CSS gets exported.

   For example, I might have a "ChapterNumber" style and a "ChapterTitle" style in an 8.5x11 book. In InDesign I might set ChapterNumber to have a space below of 1 inch. This looks great in an 8.5x11 print book, but when the book is converted to an epub, the spacing gets converted from "1 inch" to a very high margin spacing in the CSS. Consequently I have to make lots of manual changes to the CSS.

   It would be very convenient if instead I could go into ChapterNumber's Export Tagging settings and set that the margin-bottom will always be 2em or something like that.

   I can already see what the CSS is going to be in the "Export Details" section of Export Tagging. It would be great if I could change that.

5. Vertical Pages Placement

   Vertical Pages Placement would be ideal for creating emails and web pages quicker. (Please see the attached image to understand what I am referring to)

   The idea is to created the pages vertically at the correct pixel size and in the correct flow order of the email/webpage design, that once the design is complete you can easily export the individual element as separate .jpg or .png etc.

   When looking at the numbers on the different boxes (Pages) I would like to be able to place number 6 next to box 5 on the right so it aligns with the rest of the boxes. This feature would be very useful when exporting the separate elements when uploading to dot digital.

   Most designers I work with will design and email in indesign and export it as a high res pdf, then open it up on photoshop and slice the sections up. This is a longer way of working and not as accurate either.

   If you would like this feature to be added to indesign please vote on the so the developers can implement this new feature.

6. Clear All Style Sets—Right from the Style Set Menu

   Since there are a lot of windows to get to the OpenType Style Sets, we need a button that can clear all the opentype features we've tried out. This can be put into the Stylistic Sets Menu. (See attached picture.)

   This isn't just valuable to me. This is valuable to:
   1. Other users can feel free to use style sets, knowing that they can quickly clear all options, not spend minutes clicking through menus—Just to turn something off!
   2. Font designers might add more features into their fonts if the features are easier to use.
   3. You've already made that opentype feature button when you highlight, thank goodness for that! We just need a better way of clearing the style.
   4. This allows a lot of utility to the end user, but since it's just a simple menu button, with a simple function it won't really take as many man hours to implement.
   5. Your product becomes even more indispensable to type enthusiasts.

   (This can also be implemented in the Opentype Tab of the Character Styles menu.)

   Basically, this will make a lot of more advanced users happy with very limited downside to Adobe. I have attached a picture of how this might look.

   PS If the above idea is too difficult to implement, here's an even easier one: At the very least, if the menu behavior was different, it would save us a lot of clicking. And it's just this simple thing: Keep up the menu after I or another user click on a style set. That way, we users can choose multiple type options.

   It's that simple.

   This goes for the Entire Menu, once you've clicked on "OpenType."

   Additionally, since the behavior is so subtle, I believe most users won't even know the menu behavior changed, but might just feel like, "Wow, this menu is so much easier to use."

   Easy to implement, a lifesaver for those of us who spend all day clicking through these menus!

7. I would like to see a slimmed down version of InDesign much like the photoshop

   I would like a slimmed down version of InDesign. I have used the product from pagemaker thru freehand and InDesign CC. But I have a need only once a month. I have had to deal with people using MS publisher and that is the only other layout version by a major Software supplier and it is less than a satisfactory product. I am a computer consultant and seasoned product marketing manager and the need seems to be there. I would be glad to test such a product as I have had many years doing alpha/beta software. 8. snapping

   I would like for InDesign to snap my objects to the grids and margins I made instead of to random spots right next to it, as seen in the image I attached. I work in a document for print, so it is not snapping to pixels or whatever.

   It snaps to random stuff and every **** textbox or image is a ton of work. When making magazines at high speed this really slows me down so much that I want to look into other software to do the job as Adobe is clearly nog the right partner to do this.

   I litterly cramp up trying to put all the stuff in the right place, while snapping should make this easier, not harder.

9. Allowing the Review Function to have live text editable/collaborative

   The company I work for focuses more on publishing where we are working between an art and development team and an editorial team.

   Currently, we use InCopy to allow our editors to be more hands on with their major changes they need to text. But it creates a long wait time, packaging and uploading large files to our current servers, and room for error for the designer or editor to not be working from the most updated file. The problem we are having with InCopy not only is the human error of the risk of outdated files, but uploading large books with over 500 links takes a long time and also creates issues with actually transferring that amount of links over.

   The Share for Review function seems to cut down a lot of the lag and wait time while also working directly from the main Indesign document. What I was wondering was if there was a way to include the ability to allow for the Editor to adjust the text changes live and in live time where when it gets sent back to the designer working in the main InDesign document - we will see that the editor changed the text in live time vs the text changes being left as a comment and the designer is responsible to copy and paste exactly what the Editor needs for changes.

   Basically looking for a more collaborative Share for Review function and allowing clearance for editors to be able to edit JUST text.

10. Open failed (.inlk): Dialog "Open As Copy?"

    Ever "browsed" thru a fileserver to doubleclick the document from Finder/Explorer?
    Bad for you, if that file is in use by someone else, because:
    Now you can redo the browsing within InDesign, just to access the "open as copy" within the file-open-dialog.

    What if the "No access, maybe locked."-warning can be a dialog like this: "No access, maybe locked. Try to open as Copy?"

11. Add the ability to select a parent for the following page or spread.

    In the "Parent Options" dialog box (on Windows, though I'm sure it's pretty consistent cross-platform) there's the options for the current spread.

    What if we could add a limitation that allowed you to specify the parent style for adding pages?

    For example, if I had a chapter head page, having it be able to automatically switch to the standard body parent would be a time saver for that highly repetitive task.

    The option would be after "Number of Pages" and probably say something like "Parent for Following Page" with a selector for the existing parents, and another selector with "Following Page" and "Following Spread" as options.

    Not sure how it would all look, but that's the core of the idea.

12. Quick Key for increaseing space between paragraphs.

    A quick key for increasing space between paragraphs would make it quicker to explore and establish paragraph styles. It would be great if there were quick keys to adjust the spacing around the first and last line too, but the space between paragraphs seems more important, personally speaking.

    How about Command + Option + Shift + up/down Arrow Keys so it's similar to the quick key to increase/decrease leading.

There are a number of colors available in Swatches Library but when need a specific Pantone color it might not be available because there is limited set of Pantone color available, you can create a new color swatch in Illustrator Indesign but the name color swatch is defined by Pantone so you will need to contact Pantone to get the exact color you are looking for.

14. When using the "publish online" feather in ID, one gets a link - a rather generic (ugly ) looking link. Can you improve the appearance?

    I would like that: the cover page, or another graphic, or at least the title of the document shows up in the link to the published document. Who would want to open this? See what is looks like below, and the idea that I could make a graphic that travels with the link - like other graphic attached?

15. Regression: Inability to cycle through Blend Modes using arrow keys in the Effects Panel

    Hi Adobe Team,
    I am reporting a significant workflow regression in the InDesign Effects Panel (and Properties Panel) that has persisted into the 2026 versions.

    The Issue:
    In older versions of InDesign, users could click on a Blend Mode (e.g., "Multiply") in the Effects Panel and then use the Up/Down arrow keys to instantly cycle through other modes. The effect was applied immediately to the selected object, allowing for a fast visual preview of all blending options.

    Current State:
    This functionality is broken.
    Clicking a Blend Mode and using arrow keys often moves the object on the canvas instead of changing the selection in the dropdown menu.
    The "focus" on the dropdown is lost immediately after selection.
    Even when using the Properties Panel (Opacity > Blend Mode), the menu requires constant re-opening, making it impossible to quickly compare different effects.

    Why this matters:
    This change forces users to manually open the dropdown menu for every single effect they want to try (e.g., 15 clicks to see 15 modes). This is a massive downgrade in UI efficiency for designers.

    Please restore the "Sticky Focus" on the Blend Mode dropdown menu in the Effects Panel, allowing the arrow keys to cycle through options with an instant live preview, as it functioned in legacy versions.

16. 6 simple updates to make 'Publish Online' better

    An open request to Adobe to address at the following:

    1. Customisable links, based off user profile and document title. The current lengthy lines of jumbled letters do not look professional when sending to clients.

    2. Password protected links. Since we're forced to publish on Adobe's cloud, at least give the ability to encrypt the link so it can't be forwarded on. Extra feature here (like frame.io) would be to require the viewers email to view so the author can get data and verify who is viewing the document.

    3. Make it possible to preview a gif loop while designing instead of the current need to publish and wait and republish each time a gif sequence needs to be reviewed.

    4. Make it possible to choose the gif thumbnail that becomes the still image when a client decides to download an offline version.

    5. Make it easy, and elegant to embed and play audio. If it's possible to embed gifs it's strange to me that an audio file of a similar size cannot be inserted and played directly off the document. The player is clumsy and dated, the "play triangle" icon is also old and limiting.

    6. Full screen on mobile - there's no way to look at the full pdf without the URL bar hovering on top, taking up a lot of screen space. Please fix.

    • Why are these valuable to me? For the past 3 years I have moved all my presentations to 'publish online' and it has become the industry standard (tv commercial pitches). In these 3 years I've seen no updates or improvements, and the requests above are quite basic (security, customisability, functionality). It feels a lot like this product has been overlooked or abandoned!

17. Show IDLK files in Bridge for Cloud workflows

    With the pandemic we've shifted from an on-premises server (which was decent at stopping people going into the same file at the same time) to using Dropbox to perform the same functions. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to respect other people's IDLK files. Finder (Mac) and File Explorer (Windows) at least show you them, so you can avoid opening a file that someone's working on but in Bridge they're hidden and there's no obvious way of overriding this behaviour.

18. Export JPG with specific name and as a background task

    Now that many users are using INDD to prepare web graphics INDD needs a feature to be able to name the page so when the pages are exported as JPGs or PNGs they are named properly.

    I found a script to do this but it would be great to build this into the application. All that would be needed is a variable where we could add the name and INDD would look at that text frame to name the exported files.

    This is important to do it this way so this can be a feature of data merge as well. In addition to content for the web graphic coming in from a CSV users can also have a column with the page name so INDD uses that specific page name during the export to name the exported files.

    Now that many users are using INDD to prepare web graphics INDD needs a feature to be able to name the page so when the pages are exported as JPGs or PNGs they are named properly.

19. Playing GIFs in InDesign, improve export to PDF

    Currently there is no way to add a GIF image to the indesign file. In my case I would like to place a GIF image into my portfolio with ability to export it into PDF keeping the play function of the image. Neither in InDesign nor PDFs support this feature and the only way is to present it is to export into EPUB which is useless for the sake of the portfolio sharing as if it limits how file could be reviewed. Please, look at the problem and add interactive feature as if it will be helpful for presentations of ideas. As an architectural student and a future architect I find this will be an important addition how I can share my ideas with other people in a less cluttered way keeping the volume of the information shared.

20. Accessibility isn't anything new and when working in and on any creative industry product or campaign it should be considered from the off.

    I've received a Published Online PDF from a director who's sent a 27-page document that I need to read but as a dyslexic, I rely on using the 'speech' accessibility function built into my mac to allow myself to read this at a fast pace to keep on track with work and my colleges.

    You Publishing Online PDF documents don't allow the functionality for this to happen as you can't highlight the text within the document, a basic function on the most text on a computer and online. I think this should be looked at and I'm a little surprised hasn't been considered from the off when creating the platform as a lot of creatives are known to have forms of disabilities.

    I hope this is something you look into and consider improving in the next update to this feature as it's SO important in this day and age to make accessibility part of your core pillars from the start of any product or features.
